And another one...
Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends Pt20
Gorgeous sunrise!
Shar...you take such beautiful photo's..always enjoy them..Nashville..how far are you from my favorite spot..hmmm it's a bit of a detour from I75 lol...you must be tired as well...
Look at those Christmas socks..Lin, what a wonderful idea..they'll be so pleased to receive them..some of the girls here who go to a seniors club that I used to manage are knitting little pocket dolls and sending them over so the soldiers can hand them out to the children..they've sent hundreds and hundreds..I'll have to dig up the write up June gave me...
Cat..would love to see what you've done to your new home...boy, that's the way to do it..this place was run down as well..and I fix it up paycheck to paycheck..it's hard going but think you appreciate it more...
I am so tired...would not have gotten this all done had I not had the day..of course, some are coming, then they are not, then they are bringing friends..no one knows exactly which project they want to do..so I'm cutting I would suspect far more than is necessary...I'll push myself for another couple of hours..still have to sew all those santa bags out of burlap but maybe it will have to wait till morning..I just hate leaving anything like that till last minute..what if something broke..saws/sewing machine ME ME ME then I'd be in one heck of a mess...already remembered I was going to pick flesh paint and forgot..am sure I've enough here though...minds whirling a mile a minute...so, before body and mind wears out..it's back to the drawing board...
Don't know why I do this year after year..guess it's because everyone just absolutely loves the projects and other than this workshop they do not do crafts...
I'll be back to say goodnight...
Went to Watson's Nursery http://watsonsgreenhouse.com/ this morning to buy tickets for myself and several girlfriends to attend there "Enchanted Evening" event tomorrow night. Managed to control myself and only buy two plants, both at 50% off. Purchased Gaura lindheimeri 'Crimson Butterflies' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/79812/ and African Daisy 'Lavender Mist.' Then did the grocery shopping, Costco and Grocery Outlet, dropped off a package to mail and went to the bank. Then came home an unloaded everything and repackaged all the bulk items. Finally getting a chance to look at DG.
Plan on working in the flowers tomorrow morning, hopefully the rain will hold off! I think I am going to make of of Betty's tomato cage snowmen! Have a great evening!
Best: Visiting with my friend Carroll and seeing a new nursery
Worst: Getting lost on the way to the nursery.
What I learned: How to get to the nursery!
Bety,
You do it because you want to leave a piece of yourself for posterity. And--since your heart is so big, it will never diminish no matter how many "pieces" of it you give away.
However, at some point, you have to think about yourself, your family and your Grandsons and take better care of yourself.
You can always limit your classes in number--say--8-10 people. Give a deadline for them to sign up and that is that. Work with numbers that work for YOU!
You cannot live on 4 hrs. of sleep a night and work and grandkids, and cooking and shopping and...driving for hours....and...and....and....etc.
I know--I am very much like you, but I sure do not have the energy that you do. I am also older--a young 70 by now.
I have supplies for so many craft projects (mostly small ones) that I will never, in my lifetime, get to even half of them. yet, it is on my mind day and night. So much to do--and SO little time.....
This never stops! I must! I shoudda--wouldda--coulda....
Ask yourself--"What am I trying to prove"???? To whom????
Breathe----Live----Relax------smell the Roses---have a life!
Gita
LOL.....hey everybody!
Lin, thanks so much for the interest, but here's how funny I am. I actually decide to sketch something after so many years, but it's like this quick inspiration, so I grab what's handy....a postal (click-n-ship) receipt and draw it out lightning fast thinking I'd elaborate later and transfer it........
and now I lost it! lol the ideas still there, but who knows, I'll sleep sometime tonite and that will be that
well, today...
Best: I guess? My daughter and her lil boyfriend got back together (now I wanna get sick). I was able to get everything I needed to plant taken care of
Worst: hmmm...sometimes I get irritated at myself for being bothered by stuff. Cause I'm not supposed to have feelings I guess..lol
What I learned: My idea of banning boys from my daughter might not work how I was strategizing
Girls I give up trying to catch up. B , yes we are finishing the trim. Decided to go with white as an accent color for later details to be added and to make the trim greyish, so it didn't look like a barn or farm house. I originally liked that but decided it doesn't match the rest of the house style and I'd rather go a little more cabin in the woods or slightly rustic and one day add stone to the front and some Craftsman style pillars in front. The grey will go with the river rock later.
So nice to see shar.
Don't send the DG police to find me, I'll be in Phoenix this weekend. Got new furniture so Yeah.
I've about another 1 1/2 to feel comfortable with what I have to accomplish early tomorrow morning...Gita..I'm going to take SOME of what you said to heart..sounds like you are a wise woman..but I know myself as well, just as you say, we're both alike..I'd go crazy not having something to do..I challenge myself to sit on the couch and relax..not much more than 5 minutes and I'm looking around for something to do..long time DEAD right???
Rachael, sounds as though your garden will get some much 'NEEDED' plants..lol..
Trop..come on now, want to see the art...think Gita paints don't you Gita???
As for the tomato cage Victorian Santa, my sister called and found my notes on how to do it...if she remembers, she'll bring it along in the morning...then I can post the info for those of you who have left over cages....
Back to the grind...just incase I don't get back I'll do my post...
Best..receiving my 'ornaments' from Nan..
Worse...wasn't going to say anything till tomorrow, but the worse is havy on my heart...many of you when we were sharing histories remember my very best girlfriend 'Darlene' who even though 10 years younger than I took me under her wing and that of her DH..she was in an accident oh about 14 years ago and lives with chronic pain..she enjoys coming to the house here each week and teach, gives her something to get out of the house for..well she went for a mamogram about 2 weeks ago and last week they called her and said she had to go back for another..well this aft. the clinic (new girl) instead of forwarding the results to her doctor, just called her and said she'd have to go to Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie as soon as they can get appt. for her..lump in breast...she was quite upset as am I..met her husband (saw) in Canadian Tire this afternoon, said he was dropping in to pick up my lawnmower for service as he does it every year..we talked for awhile and they are very worried...guess it's not up to me to ask why bad things happen to good people but often wonder....
What did I learn....that what I thought would take maybe 5 or 6 hrs. has taken me from 5:00 a.m. till now and still more to do..bad calculation to say the least...AND of course, we've all met some lovely friends here in the past few days, do hope they like us enough to stick around..
We are not always talking crafts/crafts/crafts..it's just the festive season..Halloween, Thanksgiving and now Christmas...soon it will return much to our families and of course of love of gardening..
So if you feel this thread is a little too crafty, things of us 'crafty' 'sly' wonderful people...
Am off for sure...
Dawn, you'll have to show us pictures, lots and lots ...
Phoenix..when I started with American Express (was the 3rd girl hired in Canada) that's how old I am..anyway our main office was in Phoenix and I did training there as did I in Memphis...loved Memphis...you have yourself a wonderful weekend and enjoy that new furniture..wow, both you and Gardengirl...you'll all have to tell your DH's or for those of us on our own..hey 'we need to be shopping'..
Hey at least one of the new people likes the crafts! Maybe I can elarn something from you gals!
I love crafting almost as much as I love gardening :0) But only when the weather is wet and cold, in other words from Nov to April I craft and get the occassional sunny day in the garden and from Mid-April thru October I'm in the garden and do a few crafts here and there.
Betty,.
If I lived near you, I would be in your classes.
Do I paint? I can. I have. I no longer do.
Painted a lot of pictures (oil) back in the mid-late 70's. Took classes that ran 2 sessions a year for 10 weeks each.
I have this natural talent to make anything I want, but, of course am limited to only what I know and can think up.
Between taking care of my garden year round and working 3 days a week and--sitting here forever at the computer and spending my time on DG--kind of uses up mist of the free time.
I have also been running a small craft group at my house one Sunday a month. Only about 4-6 people. I also provide all the materials and snacks and so on. Since some of these women have never even used a glue gun and have no imagination, it is challenging to come up with small projects that can be completed in about 2 hours, but everyone is always happy with what they have done.
We were supposed to have one of these craft classes tomorrow, but no one has called to sign up. We were going to make small X-mas trees out of large pine cones--all decorated. I guess people are busy.
Here is what we made last month. Those are REAL, wild Turkey feathers in the tail! The body is a pine cone.
Gita
Gita,
That little turkey is darling!

Oh my ... That Turkey is Wonderful! I would be in your's or Betty's class! I like doing crafts, just don't have much imagination or creativity of my own and a very short attention span if I'm working by myself! It's always much more fun when you have a crafting buddy to play with!

best: its friday!
worst: those crazy young girls ALMOST got fired today, apparently they all know each others i.d number, so one would set the alarm and the other would clock everyone out they just dont get it they all had verbal warnings that it grounds for dismissal so monday they get all new numbers and no one is to share their id kids geez
learned:nothing this evening oh wait yes i did to not be in a hurry lol
hugs to all liz
now i dont think betty has anything to prove to anyone... we all know how wonderful she is just being her. Do what ever makes you happy I say. I believe your drive betty is to bless, nuture and encapsulate in the warm of the love that fills you. I love you and wont hear any different!
Im not sick at all of hearing of the crafts, in fact i am inspired! the threads are varied all the time as people go on holidays or have family problems or anything else. These are shared, scattered if you will amongst those things that are our common ground such as crafts, gardening and the like and burst into bloom according to what is planted. At this time its holiday season and i love the spirit of it AND the SPIRIT of it.... I am so excited and its good for me. You all know what been going on and the things i have been through... this thread is a saving grace for me. You cant imagine the thrill of hearing betty's voice on a voice mail, or getting a package or a message on a thread telling to off for something which tells you how much you are loved.
I love sharing your lives, your loves, your losses, your experiences. Just look at those lovely photos posted, its like looking through your eyes at a landscape or garden that i will never see. Or putting a face to a name and a family to a face.
I get caught up in betty's energy and draw from that and some days its all thats kept me going. This thread reminds me that we all live under the same sun, feel the same things and laugh and cry through our lives....
listen to me.... i need to get off my soap box...
just wanted you to know......no need to prove a thing... but sure as anything... you have shown me much!
hugs to you all from tomorrow land!
xx
p.s santa comes here first you know! I'll put in a good word for you all!
Thanks Laura, but I'm listening to Gita..sometimes not with you guys but I get caught up in wanted to help/do good and it gets me tired..but like those spring toys you wind me up, and off I go.
Worked until 12:10 last night and up at 4:45..having my coffee with you..bringing down the sewing machine to do the bags..everything dusted so ready to take on the day...
Did I tell you I'm listening to Christmas music while having my coffee...wonderful sounds through the house...even put a pot of Christmas potpourrie to smell up the place...
Won't be posting till tonight, but will take some photo's to show you all the elves at work...
Do have a nice day.
Want to see photo's of your day..and Gita I absolutely loved the turkey..you must have those large pine cones at easy access...
Now off I go because I'm on a high and I'll just keep typing..lol...sunny day here - double digets they say...
ALL is well in my world..let's hope I sign off with same...
Guess what, got a coffee in hand again, everything done, even all the lights outside co-ordinating with the new christmas carol display..neighbor just got in from working midnights...explained why I had the music on and said it wouldn't be on all day just until everyone arrived...he said not a problem..what I'm going to do tomorrow is put the sound up at the level I like and ask them if they can hear it in their houses...if they do, I'll tone it down a bit...
So off to find something to eat, put my feet up, and RELAX..I'll pretend I'm a lady of leisure..lol
Good Morning,
waitng for my coffee, wow you are amazing all of you!
Day for me wil be filled with laundry, ornamnets -only have one done. They take 6 hours to make and with all the running during week only the weekends to work on them. Last night got a brilliant idea for a new one so that will take me a while to get it into action and figure if I can get them made in a bigger quanitity in shorter time. Worth it for me to check out..so all else will stop.
Gita, your turkey is fabulous!
Plantlady, lol, sorry bout the my confusion on your sewing. You did an excellent job with glue gun! How your Lighted snowman coming along? I hear you on the crafting buddy too, I am alone alot and makes me wander around doing other things instead of just finishing one project at a time.
I'll be back in a little bit...got to wake DH to get his day into action. Looking a 2 vehicles, hoping to buy one today. Will use my car, so I am grounded or he's trying to talk me into going which knowcks out my plans so we will see.
For now Good morning and have a fun filled day!
Good morning everyone. Another hectic day here. I'm a little stiff and sore from moving boxes etc yesterday, but ot as bad as I could be! That'll probably come tonight! LOL!
Betty, hope the day goes well for you. And that you are totally wiped out by night. 4-5 hrs of sleep is not enough though!!
Seedtosser you do ornaments too? What kind?
morning all,
betty, cant wait to see what the girls make today have a fun day
gita, that turkey is great
judy, hope dh finds a vehicle now what are thease ornaments your working on you have my curiosity up.
well off to san francisco have to pick up some foccicia bread in north beach going to a 60th surprise party for my boss she is so cluless lol then when she sees me i know im going to get it she's going to say" and you were in on this too" ha ha i can keep a secret
everyone have a wonderful weekend liz
Morning! Busy Busy everybody!
Welcome to the new ones. I'm terrible with names so please forgive.
Betty I'm going to try making the Snowman if I have time this weekend. I might not have the lights. Now it will probably turn out quite a bit different from yours so don't be disappointed. LOL But that is what I do. Take something and change it.
Laura you are sounding so good. When do your first flowers bloom? Any pictures? I love pictures!
cat take it easy with the moving. I just went to the Chiropractor yesterday. Neck is back in align and feels better. That's what happens when you hit your head? Little off track there. He also did my back and that feels better also. Now for a nice soak before I go to work today. Don't forget the nice soak before you start today if you can.
Since I am confusing even myself I will get going. Might be back later when the brain slows down.
What did I learn- relearned I need to go to the chiro more ofte.
Best thing-got in a really good nap and slept good last night
Worst thing-got snow when I wasn't expecting any. They didn't say we were to get any! A surprise when you are in a hurry!
LOL...well now, was trying to make it suprise for all of you but...well some may get one in time for Christmas and some in time for the NEW Year...So SUPRISE and HAPPY NEW YEAR!! LOL sure just cuz I want to take a picture batterres died...already started my post so about an hour will post a pic. ...But just to Let you know they are little Personalized stockings. Wonders was done first because she lives on the other side of the world! Next will be all my Friends in Canada, since you are next to the other side of the world!LOL...Now here's the thing, Wonders was done with the new fabric, however will be redoing in the old fabric, as i am not satisfied with how the new came out....Then the new ornaments...I have been toying with a snowman idea for a while and now that Plantlandy has mentioned her collection of them just inspired me enough to put it together, Thanks! Unfortunatley they can't be personalized except with the year, if it comes together to my satisfaction Then I can work on them in between.
Liz can't wait to see your snowman, 100 lights woohoo! Didn't make it to HD yesterday cuz anything I plan can be changed in a matter of blink of the eyes! Thats why I don't plan and just go with the flow of the family here. Last night, DS went to visit his buddy so had to work around running for him. Spent a great deal of time talking with DH as for a change he was home at a decent time. See, my life revolves around my family and all there activity so I have fun and roll with it and do my fun stuff in between. DH already laughing since I got up early and so far just now getting my things together...will show a sketch of my snowman and start playing with the fabric.
...Plantlady, hows your snowman working out too..Whoever else is making one sure would happy to see your creations!
those are cool judy
omg the snowman ...
ripped it appart three times i overstuffed on bread lol so now im just as slow as a mule so maby i can take my time and finish it before the surprise party
I am loving the camaraderie on this thread!
Seedtosser: Those stockings are sooo cute! Love them and what a sweet idea to do for all of your friends!
This thread made me think of a cute picture that a friend of mine sent me last year: Even though people are far apart in distance of miles ... the road is not very long, especially through the internet! I just posted this pic on another forum for another friend but I am posting it here for all of you too!
You Ladies Rock! (as the younger set would say!)
Liz,
I love fresh artisan bread. Whenever I buy it I try really hard to make it all the way home before I have a piece. It never works though! Seems I always tear off a piece to try for the drive home, doesn't matter if it's 5 minutes or 25! I love carbs!
Well off to spend a few hours in the garden, have had rain the past few days but right now the sun is peeking through!
Catch up later! Rachel
Bread! My Biggest Weakness! .... well, other than plants!
Greeting All! It's Saturday afternoon and it feels like I've been up for 12 hrs! Murphy woke me up at 6:21am. Took him out to do his business and figured I'd try and get him to go back to bed. Well, he ran right into the crate, I threw him his biscuit, closed it, climbed back into my nice warm (electric banket-headed) bed and closed my eyes.....and Murphy decided, nope, he wanted to get up. So since Saturday is my morning with him, I took him downstairs, fed him and I started catching up on all the shows I've recorded.
Around 8:30 I got the hair-brained idea of giving Murph a bath cause he stunk to high hevens!!! So gave him a nice bath; dried him off real good then took one myself! By then DH was up so when I was done, I went out to run my errands. Got back 2 hrs alter to DH saying he's been working and I'm like "can you define 'working' for me". He did the dishes, cleaned the counter off, filled in the huge holes in the back yard that Murphy dug and applied a nice layer of poo to each to keep him from digging more. Well, while DH is filling holes, DD lets Murphy out in the yard to pee. He does his biz then promptly starts digging a new hole. DH doesn't get to him until his feet are black and muddy and he's got dirt all over him. I did mentioned I had just given him a bath, right?? UGH! DH rinsed his feet off and got him looking pretty good again so for the moment, he's clean!
Oh, forgot to tell y'all that I went with the neighbors last night to see the movie 'Fred Claus'. It was a nice family movie and hadsome pretty funny parts!
Well, I'm going to run and see what I can do around the house. I'll check back in later with everyone!!
Jeannine
I survived 'Betty's Christmas Craft 2007" will post a few photo's...actually it went fairly well...a few didn't come but thought perhaps they'd come over either tomorrow or one night this week..Kyle's here, burnt all my wood, eating licorice and keeping me company..we'll have supper and then he'll either go home or spend the night with grandma..you should see this place..total disaster..sparkles everywhere...had hope to take photo's with all the santa's but some left at different times of the day..
It will be an early to bed night for me...
I haven't responded to any of the posts really since Friday, but promise will do so tomorrow..when I'm not as tired...
I'm anxious to see many of the projects you all are doing..Santa workshop is not just in Victoria Harbour...wouldn't mind of few of those elves to help me clean up..lol
