Oh Man...But Betty got the day off, hmm might have to trek in just to see huh? Welcome Plantlady! Want to make a sleigh too?

Aaaah ... I wish I had time to make a sleigh. I've got so much going on this month, I just don't have the time. I AM going to try and get one of those lighted tomato cage snowmen made for my sister! I'm not very crafty and have a very short attention span .... usually I start something and then it gets shoved into a closet and I never finish it! But, I LOVE that snowman ... I collect them! Yeah, I know .... I live in Sunny Florida and I collect Snowmen! My sister who lives down in South Florida thinks my collection is so neat she wants to begin a collection too. She loves holiday figurines that light up, so I know she will love that one! He is just soooo cute. I might make one for me and one for her ... would love to find a black top-hat for mine! But, I may just use a nylon watchcap or santa's hat ... haven't figured that out yet. I love the metal star ... forgot to ask Betty where to get that ... maybe I will check out some of the craft supply stores locally!

I'll be lurking about on this thread, and oohing and aahing at y'alls photos!

Hi all, just got home..yuk, snowing to beat the dickens..just think I get to stay home and get all these projects ready...let me see how many I have marked down...so far have 25 coming..OMG..where will I put them..there will be sparkles all over the place..stopped at Michaels to pick up part of my supplies...Greg dropped in at TimBrr Lumber yard to get more wood that I ordered and apparently they didn't know what I had ordered..so will have to call them in the morning...here I thought I could get all my wood cut...that puts me behind..had I known so many would attend I would have rented the legion again..

Judy, don't you hate it when kids have one over you..they are right..posting addresses on internet is not a good idea...how do you explain that one...glad you got the kit..hopefully I sent enough for all of you to do the project...it will only be one week tomorrow that I sent it out...that was quick...

Kyle just got back from the Royal Winter Fair and brought me a gift..spent $4.00 of his money on a "Collie on Board"
sign to put in car window..dog rarely travels with me but it's so cute..his spending his $$$ on me...without hurting his feelings will make sure he gets it back..lol...

Jeannine, I would have also loved to have seen that video..know my boys often shake their heads at me..enjoy entertaining people..sometimes I'm sure they think I've lost it...nice to have fun with your kids thought isn't it...

OMG you guys should see my craft room..disaster city..spare room likely to be hit next..need room to store everything...lots/lots of work to do before Sat. so better get off to bed..

Betty, yes I do have a zizzag stitch on my sewing machine! LOL .... hubby bought this machine for me about 7 or 8 years ago and I bet it's been used a total of about 5 times! I am now a sewer but figured it would be handy to have for some easy stuff. I did make 4 dozen felt Christmas Stockings last month for the Soldiers Angel's group. I shipped them off to California where they will be stuffed with goodies and then from there to the troops in Iraq! It was a lot of fun. I wish I had heard about it sooner I could have made many more! I think that tomato cage snowman is easy enough that I can do it and like lizrainy I have at least one tomato cage out in the shed! I will go to Joann's next week and get the muslin fabric!

Ok .... since I am new, catch me up here. Betty, I saw that you paint ornaments from the beautiful photo's on another thread! Just from my reading here, it sounds like you do wood working type crafts too. Do you cut the wood pieces for the crafts and then send them to others to finish the product??

Jeannine: Yes .... you've seen me on the AV forum! That's where I spend most of my time. I am one of the ones who loves the Gesneriad family of plants and have a few! I also spend time on the houseplant forum because I have many, many houseplants! And, I visit the Hoya forum because I have a few and am interested in that family of plants too. I like to lurk on the Trash to Treasure forum to see what neat things folks over there make from so many different things! I just kinda flit around this Garden .... so many great folks here!

OOPS...forgot the trees....

How nice to wake up this morning to all the chatter..taking a few minutes to say 'hi' and then back to Santa's workshop I go..I'm sure you'll see many photo's of all the elves at work tomorrow..no signs of freezing rain, but that's ok by me...I'm already home for the day BUT going to go listen to weather forcast for today..could you imagine if we get it after 1:00 pm when I finish house duty taking call for work and it's freezing rain and can't get into town for everything..omg..I better not think about that..trying to figure out where everyone will be..no painting upstairs for sure..oh well..we'll just squeeze in and enjoy...I'll go crazy because there is a choice of 3 different projects this year so I'll be running/running with head cut off but i so do enjoy the everyones' company..DIL dropped in last night to pick up Kyle and said she's coming with 2 friends..total of 3 more..she forgot to call and tell me..now where would one think all the supplies wood and decorative come from..they don't just magically appear...lol...

I'm typing and chatting ever so quickly..cannot at this time of morning sit and answer all your posts but will from time to time today take a few minutes to do so...

Plantladylin..if you enjoy doing him, I have a Victorian Santa in velvet done on a tomato cage..3 sewing seems to do him..he IS gorgeous..not as gorgeous as my 3 new men friends...will try to post a photo this week..think he costs about $15.00 when done but well worth the few hours it takes to make him...I pour the faces..so that's not a problem if you decide to do so...

Betty, as I'm skimming thru posts, I looked at your last paragraph that started 'Plantladylin, if you enjoyed....' and the next couple words cracked me up but I had to read the context..lol

So yesterday--
Best--got some beautiful bulbs in and got them put in the greenhouse and planted out the rest...next year is gonna be awesome for blooms. I love African bulbs...lol

Worst: My daughter cam home with her first broken heart :( It was so hard to see her so sad...wasn't prepared at all for that parenting moment. She had a little sign (I guess?) she made that said " I have a brokn hart". :( Brings tears to my eyes. And I know it's only the first....

What I learned: It's just as hard, but probably harder to see someone you love hurting as it is to be hurt yourself

Boss called at 7:00 said he'd been up since 5:30 but didn't want to call me, we'll I was up at 4:30 so he could have..can you believe in his busy week that he FORGOT to tell me we've partnered with an office upstairs that provides mortages AND that I may be getting calls..would need to do mortgage applications..well 'hello' don't you think I need to see the application to know what to ask...he apologized 10 times..so waiting for 9 and will call the mortgage centre and ask them to e-mail me application so I have an idea at least what to ask..not only that but we guarantee 24 reply to their request..hmmmm...1st day the add is running in major newspaper so hopefully they will pick it up, look at it tonight and call Monday..I'll fake it if I get calls I'll try and sound ever so efficient..not/not...

so cut an extra 5 victorian Santa's this am and 3 more santa's with teddy bears..stained the 10 snowmen and bases so they'd be dry for tomorrow...sure wish all my DG friends lived closer..I'd give you all a chore...lol

back to work..surely it must be noon...hmm 8:40...still more hours to go...

Liz..the santa is so/so easy...not today, but perhaps tomorrow I'll post photo, I sound like a broken record but if you want to do one I'll pour the face and paint them and ship them...always willing to help a sister-crafter...do know you need a sterofoam ball 3 or 4" and 2 smaller ones..1/2 or 1" which will make the hands..you need a smaller tomato cage..little less than a meter of velvet..I always do mine in maroon..so pretty but some have done them in deep blue and green and look just as attractive..guess it all depends if you want it to match your decor..a coat hanger for arms..I bought a lovely gold horn to hang from his robe..need some gold maybe 1/4" ribbon..then specialy beard pkg. forget what it is called but I'm sure I got it a Michaels..will get the name...thats about it..maybe some greenery..can't remember if I did something to light it up..maybe mini battery lights in the greenery..who knows..that was a workshop back about 10 years ago..should go back in my mind and try and remember what I've done each year..know I just hung my snowman wreath holder on the door..it's so special..will have to take photo..later...

OK Betty, how do you do the santa tomato cage thingy? I guess I need to get on the craft band wagon! I've got about 10 tomato cages sitting out in my garden. My DH will just more Xmas stuff to pack away!!!

Good morning everyone. Sounds like it's going to be a busy day for several of us. I'm off work today. (I work 9 1/2 hr days so I can be off every other Friday.) BUT, this is moving weekend so there won't be any rest! We bought an old fixer upper house 3 years back, and have been remodeling as the budget allows. It's alot slower this way, but no house payment. And everything in it is new. It was gutted when we got it. New roof, windows, doors, siding, elect, plumbing, C/A&H, everything. So hopefully, there shouldn't be that much upkeep for quite some time.
I have a few last minute things to do today and tomorrow, plus moving small stuff over. And cleaning! The guys will come to move the big stuff Monday.
And I still have 25 Asiatic lily bulbs to plant! They may have to wait until next weekend!

Betty: HELP! Do I duct tape the top of the tomato cage for the Snowman? Will the gray color of the tape show through the muslin? I really, really want to make this cute snowman with the lights but I'm afraid if I just dive in without the details it will never get finished! I'm not a fly by the seat of my pants type gal .... You are welcome Lin...these mini breaks bring on burst of energy which I need today...so far 3/4 of the wood is cut and in kits, have 20 kits of flowers/picks and greenery to bag so everyone get the same amount (learnt very quickly to do that..lol) won't put the wreaths in the bags incase they squish the flowers..will finish cutting wood when I get home later this afternoon and sew up the burlap, clean up and I will be able to have an early night..I hope...

Seedtosser: Nope, I don't enjoy sewing at all! The felt stockings were simple so even a "no creative bone in her body" person like me could do those! LOL. I had my handy glue gun for gluing on the embellishments. They were far from perfect, but made with Love for our troops!

Had a nice day yesterday. Spent the night with the granddaughter and then went with my DD to a scrapbooking night. I have never done this. i tried once to put stickers on photos and such and didnt like the look so put it down. You should see what they do!!! its amazing! Well it took me 4 hours but i made one. I am putting the finishing touches on it today, will take a pic and post it for you, I love it but remember, I am a beginner so no laughing! I really enjoyed it, i think i will save and try and find things to scrap book. apparently you can use old buttons and lace and old cards... anything really so i will keep and eye out i think. they had so many things that they had bought over the last 12 months and they were happy to share. they had a thing called a cuttlebug ( i may have mentioned it before) but i actually got to use one and its soooo cool! I have a look on the internet and can you believe out here they are $150!!! good grief! no cuttlebug for me at teh moment but who knows? so yeah had a good day.

Just got in from town..car is loaded to the hilt...wood/more wood and some more wood..think the guys at the planing mill were glad I was leaving..you see they have to plane it down to a smaller thickness and leave the rest of the wood with it's roughness....

Guess what, got my ornament from Nan on the exchange..almost as though she knew I loved sleighs..sent me one..so pretty AND a Christmas pin...will take photo's when all my work is done tonight...and, the cross stitch quilt kit I bought for mom for Christmas arrived..you know what, it's the same one she did for me that still is in a drawer waiting to be quilted...they give different color options so hope she won't mind...

Another guess what..have you seen those units that play 20 random Christmas songs and you can plug in about 8 different sets of lights and the flicker to the music and lights come on at different times to the music..it's for outside..OMG my neighbors will kill me, but, they had them on sale for $109.99 this week (reg.$149.99) well, one just jumped into my cart..I said no/no/no but home it came...IF I can get everything done, I'll plug in a few lights and trees outside and play it tomorrow for everyone..won't that be fun!

Me and my sore back are taking a break. I did touch up painting and cleaning all day. Also moved a bunch of little stuff over. I'm tired! Have a little more I want to get done tonight and then I'm flopping on the couch and not moving!!! Until morning when it starts all over again! Will be glad to get it all done.

We have before pictures somewhere. I'll see if I can find some. Everything is a little disorganized right now for some reason!
