Stop and visit, talk all you want.

(Zone 7a)

Don't worry about highjacking, Marsue. You helped start this one. LOL

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

TG is my favorite meal, probably because I love to cook! We are having it here with several relatives and friends invited. That is one reason I am not spending lots of time here nowadays. I am trying to get two guest rooms ready, fall clean my yard, my house and finish some Christmas gifts(quilts) so I can send them back with everyone and won't have to mail them.

(Zone 7a)

You have a full load! Can't say I have that much but getting ready for Xmas here.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

I can't believe some folks already have their Christmas shopping done--smart, organized folks!! I can't even think about it yet. But yep, if you are making things for gifts, you have to think ahead. Can we see pics of your quilts, cactus?

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

KyWoods, click on my name, that will take you to my member page. Scroll down to the bottom and I have a link there to my flickr photos. I have some of my quilt photos there along with my garden and my quilt bee photos. I will add photos as I finish projects. Are you a quilter too?

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Oh, my gosh, cactus, I am in awe of all those glorious quilts! No, I didn't inherit the sewing gene--my sister did, and she makes beaded things like belly dancing costumes and wedding dresses that are fabulous. I love seeing other people's art. My gift is playing guitar and writing.

Oh, and I enjoyed your garden pics, too! Zone envy here....I loooove cacti and succulents.

You do have a full load, cactus. Don't wear yourself out by overdoing the cleaning--you'll just have it to do all over again once everybody goes home--LOL. (I know you are probably like me and obsessive about cleaning, especially when company is coming!)
How lucky for your relatives to have a beautiful quilt from you for Christmas! I have been over to your flickr photos of your quilts, too, and I agree with KyWoods--they are gorgeous.

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

Don't worry I won't overdo! I really let a lot of things slide this summer when I was going to physical therapy 3 times a week and not walking much. So I am cleaning things that haven't been doing anything but catching dust all summer. I can take my time with the "after" company cleanup! ; )

Hi..
Just wanted to wish Every one a very Happy Thanksgiving...Safe travels to everyone coming/going.

I'll probably be off...See you next week, excited to hear all about your holidays!

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Happy Thanksgiving to all from me, too! Don't eat too much! LOL

(Zone 7a)

To all my friends here at DG...

For Thanksgiving, eat too much, drink too much, talk too much, love too much and live too much, spend too much time with the ones you love and stay WAY too late! Your body may hate you but your mind will be at peace and you won't be able to say "I should have..."

Happy Thanksgiving!

Kwanjin

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

I love that, Kwanjin!
Happy turkey day to you and yours, and to every other DGer out there!
Misty

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Sound advice, kwan, and you do the same!

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

Everyone, I am going to try to do too much! Especially the cooking, then everyone else can eat too much! LOL

Marsue, sedums would be good to grow under your roses (I think). I have several that only grow a few inches high... Want me to send you some? I'll be happy to, or I can meet you in Forrest City, whatever. I live just south of Memphis.

Lantana is also beautiful. There are several colors. I've had the same plants for 4 years, they don't freeze out (or they haven't so far)... Let me know!!

(Zone 7a)

Oh, I will! LOL

We're having a cold day today. Temps were !70! yesterday and today it's down to 40. Go figure.

Anybody know how to fix a hottub? Ours is broken. :'-(

(Zone 7a)

I'd like some, too! LOL

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

kwanjin, are you talking about the sedums? Send me a dmail. We'll discuss it.

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Thanks, FlowrLady, that would be great if you could send me some. I'll reimburse you for the postage. Is now the time to put out sedum or should I wait till spring? Ordinarily I wouldn't mind meeting you in Forrest City but DH and I are pretty busy right now taking his mother back and forth to the doctor. She lives 65 miles from us and then it is another 40 miles to the doctor from where she lives so by the time we go pick her up and take her to the doctor and then get her back home and then get back to our house, it is a 210 mile round trip. We have made several of those trips in the last six weeks and have to do it again this coming Monday. I just happened to think about the plant swap in January. DH and I may take part in that--will you be there? I don't have much to swap since we just moved into this house a year ago but I would like to come and meet everybody. From what I have read on other threads, you guys have a great time!

Grampapa up in New York sent me a bunch of seeds and I think she sent me some lantana seeds. Tobasco also sent me some seeds and she may have included them in her envelope, too. I'll have to check to be sure. I'm eager to get them planted in the spring.
BTW, I went to high school my senior year at Southhaven in Memphis Elvis Presley territory). Olive Branch is just over the state line isn't it?

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

Olive Branch is 10 miles or so to the east of Southaven. My DS and family live in Southaven :)

The swap in January is mostly for seeds. Is that the one you're talking about? You'd love it if you come! Please do.

Spring is the time to plant sedum. Mark your calendar for March and remind me. I've got lots of Sedum I can share.

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

I was taling about the seed swap at Ray's Place in January. Hopefully, DH and I can make it there and get to meet everybody!

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

Yeah, we're talking about the same one. It will be GREAT if y'all will come!!!

(Zone 7a)

Okay, folks. I have an update on the job. It posted today and I have applied. MORE hurrying up and waiting!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Still got the fingers crossed for ya! But, hurry up, they're getting tired and achy! LOL :)

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Whoa! 5 days have gone by and nobody has stopped to visit? All that food on Thanksgiving must have made you all lethargic! LOL or if you are like me, you have been catching up with everything on the other threads you are watching.
Do let us know something as soon as you hear about the job, kwan.
It is raining today and cold. I thought it would be a good day for home-made soup so I stirred some up and it is simmering in the pot even now. Can you smell that luscious aroma? MMMMMM! In about an hour, I am going to serve up some of it to myself and DH. Yummmmm!
DH and I went up to meet DGer, Kathy Ann from the Judsonia area yesterday (aobut 40 miles from here). We browsed through her greenhouse which is chock full of all kinds of tropical plants--just amazing! She told me to pick out anything I wanted but I had to decline on the tropicals because I don't have any place to overwinter them. However, Kathy did load me up with cannas, iris, daylilies, bee balm and some other things, too. She is such a sweet and gracious lady. I have sung her praises on every thread I am participating in right now! LOL
Well, I have to go "taste-test" that soup and see if it needs anything else. I may have to make some cornbread to go with it. Now there's an idea. . .

Hello Marsue,
...What timing I have...soups sounds awsom, as does the the Cornbread.. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
I just got back in town last night...LOL didn't dare go on computer, hahaha, DH would have hit the ceiling. So I've been catching up today.
Doing some laundry and working on my Christmas Ornaments.
Well now, how great for you to visit your DG friend. Sounds like you both had a grand time...With your wonderful mix of planting, you'll have sweet dreams on where you want to plant...hehehe, or do you already know?

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Hi, Seed! Hope you had a good Thanksgiving, too. We did have a good Thanksgiving--7 adults and two children here and a good time was had by all. After lunch, Pa Buddy (my DH) took the kids for a wild ride on his lawnmower (a big one with a 52" turning radius but he didn't have the blade down and rotating) and you should have heard the squealing! Pa Buddy had more fun than the kids! He is still talking about it!
So far, I don't know exactly where I am going to put the plants which Kathy sent home with me. I have them all in pots and buried in one of our new lasagna beds with leaves mounded up around them for protection until I can get them in the ground once this rain stops. However, the rain will give me time to ponder where I want to plant everything.
Still haven't made that cornbread, so I better get with it. Later. . .

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

I was busy with prep and company. Had a wonderful time. Here are some photos my daughter in law took of my garden while I was cooking dinner on Thanksgiving.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/ktrons/
It was so fun for me to see how someone else would photograph my garden.

We had a dusting of snow but thankfully it rarely sticks here! We can see some on the mts. out the window though. I made stock from the leftover turkey carcass and we had dumplings last night. Soup with cornbread should be on the menu tonight. I love cooking and especially eating!

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

cactus, those are wonderful photos of your flowers and garden. I posted a comment over there.
have you recuperated from all the company yet? LOL
We haven't had any snow but it has been raining most of the day. It appears to have stopped for now. My cornbread didn't turn out very good. I think the self-rising corn meal was old. I'll have to put corn meal on my grocery list. The soup was good, though, and will probably be even better tomorrow. Sure warms the bones on a cold, wet day!

I have been dealing with migraines, and dealing (not so well) with the fact that we had to hire someone to come in and do the heavy cleaning and the remainder of the painting and stuff. Between my injured shoulder and wrist (left shoulder and I'm left handed and right wrist) and an old back injury, I just cannot do the things that need done. The good thing about it is, we hired a girl I know that is a single mom of 2, a 3 yr old and a special needs 3 month old. She can really use the extra money that it is generating for her, and she does a wonderful job. We've been paying her a little every day, but we also paid her cable bill (internet and phone included) and her taxes on her house. So she's planning to do just about all the things around the house I just can't do. I just feel really guilty that we are spending money on things that I should be able to do. I'm only 35, for pity's sake. :(( She got the first coat of paint on both the kids rooms Friday and Saturday, scrubbed down my bathroom and did the kitchen floor last week. We've got to pick up 2 more gallons of paint tonight, one for each of the kids rooms, and she will finish them this week, then we can do the borders. Then we start on the kitchen (new flooring and paint) and the bathroom flooring. We are also gonna scrub down the living room walls and all the knick knacks Mike has (and hopefully pack alot of them away).

So.... did anyone hit the stores Friday morning? I didn't. I did a lot of shopping Thursday at K Mart, and then Thursday night online. We actually had fist fights at our local Circuit City store :( It was nuts

Hugs to all

Janis

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Janis, so sorry about the migraines, shoulder, wrist and back problems. I hope you will be feeling much better very soon. I know what you mean about paying somebody else to do the things you feel that you should be doing. However, look at it as an opportunity to help someone who really needs the help and be thankful that you can afford to hire someone who not only needs the help but who is also doing a good job for you. I am sure that once all is said and done that both you and this lady will look back on all this and realize that you have both received a blessing. God bless you both!

I didn't hit the stores--I always try to stay away from all that madness on "Black Friday". I have a friend, though, who got up at 3:45 am and went to stand in line so she could get in on the bargains!
Re: the fights at your local Circuit City, IMHO no material item is worth getting into a fight over. I just don't understand it!

(Zone 7a)

Good to see everybody back! And survived the Holiday. Had to work on Friday. Who in retail doesn't? Won't know anything about the job until next week. Trying to do a refi on our house AND deal with Holidays!!! LOL Sheesh! Cleaning my house too. Haven't done it in some time. It's hard to catch up. DH is helping though. The weather is helping too by not being bad. It's cold but no snow yet. Very pretty with frost on the things that are still green.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Kwanjin, I am glad to see you fared Black Friday! :) And still thinking good thoughts for you on the job. :) Sounds like you got a LOT going on for this time of year.

(Zone 7a)

Boy, you said it! LOL Don't know what I should do first. Laugh or cry. Think I'll laugh. It's more fun.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

If you are like me, if you let the tears start, they don't quit!

(Zone 7a)

Oh, you have no idea! LOL I overdid it on Friday and Saturday with the walking. I had to ice my foot when I got home both nights. I haven't had to do that in a while. Waterworks were close but DH pulled me through with the laughing. Can't live without him.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Sorry to hear that you had such a bad couple of days! :( You ever try Epsom salt? I have had a lot of aches and pains recently and my knee finally got to me last night, so I got in the tub and started running the water so I could get it as hot as possible and put a ton of it in there! I love hot showers and baths, but I didn't last long in this one! I left the water just to see how long it would take it to cool down, and 2 hours later it was still warm! My knee feels a little better, though! LOL
Those DH, what would we do without them! :)

(Zone 7a)

I have done the Epsom salt baths but it's not recommended for bone spurs. I have to use ice and I can't have a foot massage either! Dr. says they're no no's. I had a really nice foot bath that I used to use and I can't anymore. I just elevate it and in an hour or so it's okay again for a while.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Well that just sux! A lot of my aches and pains are my own fault because I always done gymnastics growing up and had a lot of sprains. That, and motorcycles, but I wouldn't change a thing! The one pain that isn't my fault is my varicose veins, of which Insurance would NOT pay for fixing because they consider it Cosmetic Surgery! No matter how much pain they cause-RIDICULOUS!

(Zone 7a)

It IS riduculous what they won't pay for. I had to pay for three-count them-three prescriptions I knew wouldn't work for a condition I have. When they finally did decide to pay, it was "Are you SURE those others didn't work?" Sheesh!!! Meanwhile, you're stuck feeling lousy.

(Zone 7a)

And I'm sorry about your kness. THAT sucks too.
