Time for a pup-date

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Hart--
Thanks! I already did! I think it stinks that they are only discounting the tickets to Seniors by $1!

I think I am going to go this weekend. Probably Saturday. Anyone else planning to do so? We could meet at the entrance.

Here are the hours:
Sat. 3/1--hours are 10AM-9PM.
Sun. 3/2--hours are 10AM-6PM.

Then, next weekend-----

Fri. 3/7--10AM -9PM
Sat. 3/8--10AM-9PM
Sun. 3/9--10AM-6PM

Admission is $10. Seniors--$9. Craft Show only--$5.

You can go to: www.mdhomeandgarden.com for more information.

There is also a "Commercial" part to this Show--in the "other" halfof the "Cow Pallace". As it might be boring--this is the place where you can replenish your supply of free pens, magnets, and other give-aways as you wander through displays of Gutter Guards and Hot Tubs, and Banks, and Lawn-service Company displays, etc.....

HEY!!! Enter to win a new car too...or to get a free estimate on siding and new windows on your house! BUT--beware--what you put on that entry form!!!!! You may be opening yourself up to endless phone calls and telemarketers.

Hope to see some of you there!!!! Should we all wear a red carnation or something????

Can't you use the $1 off coupon on top of the senior discount to get a total of $2 off?

Have a good time. I used to go to the show in Chantilly every year and it was so much fun. They don't separate out the home stuff, hot tubs and window replacement companies - into a different area there. I wish they did.

Two things I always looked for at the Chantilly show were the guy who came down from Pa. and sold cuttings of unusual pussywillows and the local beekeepers' group selling homegrown honey.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

might be wine samples too.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Did I hear "wine samples?" Ears pick up.

Wrightie

This is where my friend goes.. Southern MD KC they are at the Charles County Fairgrounds on 301 in La Plata...

Hope that helps

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Jenn, what's in La Plata? A dog park? Or is that for the handling class?

Glen Burnie, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh sorry that is for handling classes.... the Southern MD Kennel Club..

*** Trying to do to many things at one time*****

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks - I'm on a waiting list for a class in Silver Spring, but I'm not even sure if it's going to happen.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Are there any great puppy parks in the area? (Ones that are worth the drive.)

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

So far, I think that Quiet Waters in Annapolis gets the best reviews. Anyone got others that they can Highly Recommend?

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Cross Posting on all the dog threads for more visibility (sorry):

I would like to PURCHASE a second-hand X-pen, so if anyone has one on offer, please let me know. It would need to be big enough to contain a Labrador Retriever or larger dog.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

We went to a great dog park in Atlanta - before we did that, I didn't know such a thing existed. Now my daughter Victoria has been clamoring to find one locally.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Happy, Park & Planning runs some of them: http://mc-mncppc.org/Parks/facilities/dog_park/dog_parks.shtm

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Please note re Quiet Waters- I haven't been there, but the person that told me about it said it can be PACKED at peak times, and the grass was really worn out. I may try to zip by next week, sans sweetie, to preview.
Article today- I just learned garlic is very bad for dogs.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

and onions

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Is that true? My dog Jason has a terrible stomach and throws up inside quite often. We have a ton of onion grass. Could that be the culprit?

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Happy, I just noticed that Palmbob (a small animal vet) has an article out today that may be of interest. He talks about onions and garlic; you might pose that question to him there?

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

For those who have pets, I just started this thread in the CG forum and thought you might want to join in: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/822068/

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

=) You've got that right, Gita! I'm a proud new mother of an 11 week old Great Dane boy. We brought him home about 10 days ago.

I have a couple more photos on this thread, http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/827364/.

Is he communicating with Dano the Magnificent on Mars? LOL He's absolutely gorgeous, Wrightie, and he has grown like a weed.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

SNORT! Yes, when he isn't picking up illicit television stations, he is talkin to MarZ. Thanks, Hart! He's as cute as that flutterby picture, if you ask me.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

looking very handsome and relaxed

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Cuter! LOL on the MarZ. Why do they make their ears stand up instead of letting them flop naturally? Is that just the Great Dane style or does it serve a purpose?

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Yep, it served a purpose. It was to keep them from being torn off by boars (as boarhounds), but it also mimics the lost gene that dogs once had for erect ears; it does lead to fewer ear infections and better hearing, though it is certainly a controversial subject to say the least. It is still done by GD, Dobe, Boxer, MinPin, etc. people in North America but is losing favor worldwide.

edit - actually I'm not sure if min pin's are cropped or not?

Shenandoah Valley, VA

I guess another option would be to keep him away from those boars. LOL

Why is it controversial? Doesn't look like it hurts them any. It's not like docking, which I hate. I just cringe any time I see a pitty that has had its ears docked.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

He is not in pain, that's true, but more and more people (outside of the show ring) are electing for natural ears nowadays. I don't know enough about tail docking to know what is involved, to be honest.

By "ears docked", do you mean that the ears are removed? I know of ear cropping and tail docking, but I don't know what an ear dock is.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Yes, cutting them back, cropping. They're not removed but cut back. I think it's very cruel.

Their ears are so pretty too.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Cropping is what I described above with the Danes, Dobermans, etc., and done properly, it is humane and there is no pain, so that's the controversy that I was speaking of. I lump it into the same category as circumcising babies and de-clawing cats, but I find de-clawing to be the most objectionable action of the three. Again, this is a very controversial subject and probably not something to get into on DG ...

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Yep.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

He could be a Boston, wrightie........the coloring is right.........LOL Just a really, really big Boston.........LOL My guys would have a ball with him. Pepper would think she had a new toy to play with and probably teach him how to do the "hula" dance. She dances on her back legs when her Daddy gets home, he's keeps saying he's going to get her grass skirt. (that would last all of 3 seconds.......LOL) She is not my brightest bulb, but has the sweetest nature and loves kids, cats and other people to death. She was a rescue and has some physical challenges, which are under control.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I think the prize for ears standing up belongs to Sally's dog--and they just came that way....

Shenandoah Valley, VA

LOL You're right Gita. Those are some fantastic ears Addy has there.

That would be one really, really, really big Boston terrier, Doccat. LOL I kind of like dim bulb dogs. Their goofiness is charming.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

I have Addy Ear Envy, believe me!

I think that we need a Photo Session with *all* of the "Bostons" [humming the "One of These Things is Not Like the Other" tune] ...

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Addy ear envy - LOL. That photo would be pretty hilarious, Wrightie.
