I will have to get some new pictures since I can't get the ones I have to download.....Lord knows what I'm doing or not doing. Right now it's raining, so Boston's are not in picture mode. LOL

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Wow! Those are some ears! What is a Dutch von Haus? Do they all have those great big ears? That's just adorable.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

LOL!!! I love puppies! You gotta wonder if they'll ever grow into their ears -- too cute, Amos55!

Lake, MI

Dutch is a German Shepherd or as I call him shner dee dur lol

And yes he grew into his monster ears, Thank goodness.....

He is now two and looks like this

Oh, my. Dutch is a very handsome shner dee dur! Is he from American lines? I ask because, from that angle, he doesn't appear to have the extreme angulation in the hindquarters.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

He's a handsome lad, I love their eyes. :)

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

For a gal who didn't think we needed a puppy, I am a real sucker for compliments on Addy--Thank you all, you're too nice. The breeder assured us the ears would come up and they did.
Dutch is very handsome - Forget growing into paws, he had to grow into the ears and nose , but he did well!
Yup keep those puppydog pictures coming--unless we need a new thread

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Amos, you should be proud...that is an awesome looking GSD

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Wrightie, here's Tanker, my big boy Boston stud. :) He doesn't bother to put his ears up unless the girls are complaining there's something serious going down. That takes work, you know. LOL

And Sassy, Tank's sister and litter mate and my main trouble maker. LOL

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh man, I'd love to get photos of them all together ... Tanker is a mighty handsome boy! How much does that man weigh?

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

And one more, Frog on the left with Tank his Dad

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

He's down to 30 lbs. Doc said he was trying to out grow his skin.........LOL He's a big ol spoiled love baby and a mama's boy.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

hee hee ... Z is probably a little over 30lbs right now.

Wish we lived closer ... I think that a photo of the whole gang would be utterly adorable (along with a few follow ups as the pup grows up). They're all adorable babies, doccat!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

I love them to pieces and they are wonderful company. I'll see if I can get Bitty and Pepper to pose tomorrow. Can't put Sassy with the other girls, we have dominance issues and instant dog fight. sheesh.......... Bitty should be dominate since she's had puppies, however, Sassy ain't buying that one and away we go. Usually put the four out and we romp around and then Sass pouts and usually will try and eat the couch, pillows or what ever is handy, but she gets her turn with the boys as well. We use those bongs and the "flying squirrels". They love those and she is fast, very fast and quick. Great with kids, loves people, just has some tude. I've talked to a couple of other more experienced Boston breeders and that's not that unusual for them evidently. We've tried to breed her with 3 different handsome guys and she ain't doing none of that stuff, play, wrestle, romp, is great. Nothing else, though.........LOL

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

She just has her priorities...gal can't just hook up with the first studly boy...or 2nd or 3rd that strolls on up.

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

Out of commission for a few days and WOW, look at all the activity! Zeb is growing, love the pink blanket! Love the pics of your Bostons, doccat :) Amos, I agree - Dutch is one mighty handsome boy!! Looking at his tail I'm positive now that Phoebe has to have GS in her - I've got to take some new pictures to post. We've had a rough week around here, but I'll see if Phoebe and I are up to it and add an update with pics soon!

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Tail docking and ear cropping are specific to certain breeds. Tail docking is done usually within the first week following the birth. Ear cropping is done at around 8 weeks old. It is done by qualified veterinarians under anethesia. The dogs are not in pain. The ears are then taped to train them to stand up straight. The ears need to "remember" that position. The length of time for this will vary from dog to dog. If you wish to show your dog, then they need to meet the specific requirements. Docking & cropping may not be everyone's choice, but I think its beautiful when done correctly.

LOL I thought Dutch van Haus was his breed. He certainly looks like a different kind of dog with his baby ears.

Doccat, your babies are adorable. I think Boston terriers are so cute and look like they have fun personalities too.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

I love boxers, so pretty! My furbabies are all spoiled brats as you might be able to tell. DH has sworn for years that every animal we've had or has owned us is neurotic....LOL And we've had some corkers over the years. Everything from dogs and cats to rabbits, ferrets and at one point an albino skunk. LOL No crawlie critters, though. DH is terrified of snakes and I don't want to be their best buddy either.

Lake, MI

Doc

You sound like me as a child... We were poor five room home with four cats, a dog, hampsters, bird, bunny, and two racoons that lived in the house with us.(my brother worked at a nature center and they were abandoned new borns) we hand feed them.
cutest darn animals as babies. I may have been poor money wise but rich with my pets.
I still think of how a tear to my Dad would allow me to have any animal I wanted.

I even had a trout I won at a fair in the tub

Pet people like plant people are awsome in my book!!!!

Amos

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Thank you, Amos. Both my sons have commented on how they loved our "zoo" growing up. We ain't rich, but I always wanted to be able to provide the education and responsibility that comes with having pets, no matter what type. We got Rosa (the skunk) from my SIL who was abusive with her. DH (her brother) just picked the skunk up one day and brought her home. It took me almost a year to get her to do more than tolerate me. She loved DH and the boys. But my BIL had made her a junk food junkie, so it took us some time to get her on a more normal diet. First time I took her to the vet (who would treat exotics, that's another story finding him) I almost cleared the office! LOL The big Rottie was thinking he was a lapdog. Rosa had her own harness and leash, I had a friend of mine custom make it for her out of blood red leather. She was "hot" stuff. We had with her at the time, 1 large Black Belgium Shepard, 1 Siamese Cat, various bunnies and hermit crabs. They got along fine..... Rosa's tail was almost more that Bogart the cat could stand. She was about 5 ft long, most of that was tail. Beautiful white fur, and because their front legs are much shorter than the back ones, skunks "waddle, roll" when they walk. The cat would sit in my pantry and wait for her to go by, he'd make a grab for her tail and the chase was on!! We have a ranch type house with long L shaped hall ways and up and down they'd go chasing each other. What a hoot! Rosa had been descented, but still had all the other equipment. One of the neighbor kids let her out accidentally one day and we were never able to get her back. DH was working nights and would occasionally see her with her kits and stop and visit. She would come for cookies anytime, anywhere.....LOL Oreos were her favorites and he would always carry some in the truck just for her. For many years our local skunk population has not look at all traditional.......LOL She was a busy girl!

Lake, MI

That is such a cute story. It brought a smile to my face. How long did you have her for?

Did you get any pictures of her?

A video with the cat would have been a hoot.

You just have to love digital cameras. I have taken some video of my shepherd and Puggle out back in the woods playing. I wish the digital camera's would have been around in my day.

Amos

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

I have some stills that are buried in the storage shed for right now. Never could afford a video camera, but wish I'd had one. We had for about 3 years. She was such a hoot. I would have to get up in the middle of the night to put a stop to the "herd of elephants" running up and down the halls. Skunks are normally nocturnal, so that was time to play! LOL And both Duchess (the dog) and Bogart (the cat) were in on the deal............sheesh............I'd yell, they'd all go and sleep together in front of the fireplace. I may have those pics at the house. I'll look. Show so well, her white against the black of the dog's coat, with the Siamese in the middle. What a hoot!!

Crozet, VA

I never knew there was such a thing as an albino skunk until one day shortly after I moved in to this house, I was looking out of front window and here the white thing comes waddling across the yard. I cannot remember if it had a black stripe down its back or not, but there was no mistaking it was a skunk. The one and only time that I have seen one that close.

Your stories are great doccat.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Ruby--

Maybe it was one of doc's albino descendants! How far is Fredricksburg from Crozet?

Shenandoah Valley, VA

There used to be a huge albino skunk I would see prancing around Front Royal at night. Biggest skunk I ever saw. Front Royal's downtown merchants have a lot of problems with skunks who live in Shenandoah National Park hanging out in downtown at night.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Crozet is a fair piece up the road as a "skunk waddles" LOL I feel very privileged to have had her in our lives. She was quite a character and I enjoyed being around her. We got her off "junk" food and on a regular "skunk" type diet, but she never lost her taste for fast food. I'd always get the boys a treat when we had to take them to the doctors. The smell of McDonald's french fries was guaranteed to get a skunk in your lap and in your face in a NY minute. God, how she loved those french fries. We gave in and I would always get an order of fries just for her, otherwise you wouldn't get any or get nipped if you would share the goodies. LOL My boys were just little guys then and watching her with my oldest who was about 8 or 9 at the time was a total hoot. That boy could coax her into doing things she wouldn't do for anybody else.
She about busted us on groceries, I was going thru 3 lbs of carrots per week, just for her. If she heard the refrigerator door open, she was your new best friend!! Give her a carrot and she'd have to take it back, drop it in front of Duchess ( I 'm sure you understand how EXCITED a dog gets about carrots( and Rosa would have to try and start something. I've seen Duchess pick up the carrot and they'd play tug of war for a few minutes until Duchess would let Rosa "win". At which point Rosa would wander off to eat her carrot trophy! They were a pair and I still miss them both, very much.

Crozet, VA

Yeah, quite a few miles between Fredericksburg and Crozet. Now that you all mention it, this albino skunk was larger than any other skunk I have seen too.

Keep the stories coming doc, I love hearing them.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

I can be persuaded to tell one more about Rosa. When we got here we were living in Quantico town in the middle of the Marine Base. We had an older house, whose window were the old fashioned floor to ceiling type. The lots are small and very narrow. We had a house next door that did have a nice sized yard and was and L shaped type ranch that had been converted into apartments. So we had a bunch of young Marine families living next door.
At that time we had a German Short hair pointer, a cat and Rosa.

As I'm standing at the kitchen sink one day washing dishes, I heard these terrible screams, I look out and I get a "flash" of white and then I hear my DS giggling like crazy. He was about 3. I go flying in the bedroom and see he had opened the window (how he got the locks undone we never figured out, but we revamped those ASAP).

Rosa is over in the neighbor's yard having a wonderful PIG OUT!!! I have 3 Marines who had evidently been to McDonald and were bringing it home. However, they were all up in the few trees on the property. Yelling SKUNK at the top of their lungs. LOL I had to go get Rosa and bring her home. I had to get my DS to put her harness on, cause there was no way she parting with the bounty of french fries and chicken nuggets without an argument. It was so funny. Thank goodness they were wearing their khakis.

I had a bunch of big tough rather shamefaced Marines over for an impromptu lunch, since our skunk had eaten most of theirs. It was lots of funny, nice bunch of guys. We had a good laugh over it.

I had to be very "firm" with them after that, because they would come to the door with "goodies" for my DS and his skunk. They thought that was pretty cool. Again, I'll have to see if I can find the pictures.

Crozet, VA

Aw...Poor guys, I bet they were embarrassed. I would have loved to have witnessed that. How funny!!!

Ruby

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

The few - the proud.....Ha!!!

Shenandoah Valley, VA

That's hilarious, Doccat. It was awfully nice of you to feed the Marines after they donated their lunch to the skunk for a tree climbing exercise. LOL

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

great story- I bet they're still telling it too

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Actually, I still get Christmas cards from most of them.......which is very nice. All of us were young and mostly broke, but we had a good time.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)
