When the ears stand erect, but it shouldn't be too much longer. They look great already.
Time for a pup-date
wrightie,
I am NOT a pet owner of any kind---but I have question..................
How long does he/she have to have his/her ears bandaged like that? Does it bother him/her any?
Sorry if I didn't pay attention to the gender......I think it was a "HE"---right?
Will you bring him to Bec's Swap?
Gita
Gita, Zeb (Zebedee, actually) is a male Great Dane puppy - 14 wks old. Their ears are taped until they can stand erect - maybe another month, it's an impossible question to answer. No, they don't bother him. No, I won't create that kind of mayhem by taking him to the swap (you can relax, Becky! LOL)
Wrightie, he's just stunningly beautiful. What a hunk!!
Zeb is getting more handsome with each passing week.
Oh yeah, Beck...Zebs comin'...and I'll bring Baby...hmmm what else can be done to Liven things up? LOL
Addy !!
Oop there it is!!! Why am I having visions of the Three Stooges? LOL
hahahaha Love it Chantell. And...so true.
Ruby
Wrightie, what a show dog!!
Hutch asks if Zeb can come and play??
That would be fun, FNF! Lawd knows when I would be able to make that happen though. I'm feeling pulled in a hundred directions these days.
OK, I know you probably are quite pre-occupied now. But the summer's ahead and I will check on it again when it looks good to me to see if you two, and perhaps Sallyg,Chantell? Happy? Hart? and whoever else with a playful pup would like a dog party?
Sounds like a lot of fun.
Ruby
Ahhh a Poach Party!!! How great is that?!?!? Baby's not a pup any more...hard to believe she's turning 4 but don't tell her cuz she still thinks she is...LOL
Hutch is 11!!! But he still chases balls and frisbees, still jumps for the bunny in the hat, and runs after chipmunks, squirrels and rabbits all day while I am away at the office.....He gets all excited when he sees another dog and drags me on the lead when there is another dog ahead of us on the walk.
He used to play with a big boxer/Dane mix dog that lived next door at our old house. They would jaw wrestle and do tug-of-war on sticks and rope. Cute.
There's a dog park near the Metro stop in my town. I am planning to take him up there this summer and let him have a go at it again.
Talking of something looking funny and making me laugh.......my fur grand kids are a boxer and a chihuahua. It is hilarious watching the two of them go at it. The little one Jerry (Garcia) walks right across Buster's back to get where he is going. Buster has been a great sport about the new arrival who came about a month ago. Buster had been the only "kid" of my son and his wife, until they had their own daughter Emily, eleven months old, who Buster is also crazy about. He has been a really good guy about all the changes that keep being made around him. He likes me a lot too but has a tendency of wanting to jump on me which isn't always kosher due to my loss of balance. We do okay though.
I love animal stories.
Ruby
Zeb is really progressing beautifully, wrightie. You are a wonderful furbaby mama.
I'm tired tonight, have a dr's appt Monday, I think I'm coming down with bronchitis, sheesh. My allergies make my sinuses really kick in and the drainage will get me every time, It's a bummer.
I got my final hours for my "grown up" Master Gardener cert today! I did the plant clinic with 2 other MGs at the farmer's market today. It was great fun. I think I'm going to put this one on my permanent schedule. Y'all may have noticed I do like to talk.........LOL We had a lot of young folks putting in their first garden and all interested in doing it organically! I was in heaven!! One of the other ladies is also a organic gardener and does both flowers and veggies, so we sent them home with all kinds of information. THAT I really like doing, very satisfing to me to pay it forward! :)
My MG partner in crime and I helped at the Mary Washington House on Thursday, that was great! I got some columbine and cuttings from a clematis, I think it's called a Ramona. I've got part of it in water and the other put in potting mix. I hope I don't kill the thing. The plant was huge. The front of the building is fenced in, but it seems some idiot drove his car right thru the fence and just got stopped before he hit the building. How he missed the huge maple tree in front of the fence area is beyond me. Anyway this clematis was trained to grow on the fence which would be about 12 ft long. It was trying to creep out in the street and grab a car, LOL The horticulturalist told us to give it a haircut. LOL
They have 2 antique climbing roses, the gal in charge wasn't sure on the names, but I'm going to get some cuttings of those. Beautiful creamy white and a "hot" pink number that had canes that must have been 15 ft long already and loaded with bud. The smell was heavenly!!! Holly the hort is not real "up" on roses, so she fell on my neck the minute I showed an interest......it may have been the drool on my chin, I'm not sure.......LOL
I'm going to take them some compost next week. They have no room for a bin, but I think I've convinced her they could make some in a trash can that would fit in the back. Beautiful house and absolutely gorgeous inside. I keep wanting to take my shoes off......LOL I'll try and remember to take the camera. The columbine are in bloom, as well as tulips and some other lovely blue furry plants(have no idea what they are, but they smelled pretty darned good!)
They even have a small veggie garden in the back. It was pretty neat. That house is over 200 years old, just gives me chills to think about it. The MGs have restored the garden to what it was like in the day as closely as possible and it is lovely. They have a red tree peony that just blew me away. The flowers had to be a good 10 inches in diameter. There were 2 in full bloom and more coming. I've never seen anything like that.
I think I'm going to have to either rob a bank or go find a part time job, so I can afford to buy more of these pretties. I want one of those tree peonies........Just stunning!!
Doc, you sure painted a pretty picture. Makes me want to be there looking at all the pretties. Sorry that you are feeling poorly, but glad that you have had some fun things going on gardening wise.
Ruby
So, Zeb is climbing stairs now?? Brave dog!! I can't imagine what they think when they have to go down for the first time, head first with their rumps in the air. That would scare me!!
WOW, Doccat!! You DO like to talk!! This is the most I've seen, and I didn't know you were a MG student!! That sounds like fun!! I have considered taking that route......I hope you get over the brnchitis or whatever--this is no time to be sick!! P.S.--the Smithsonian castle museum gardens had a lovely peony trees out there. They are gorgeous!!
He got on the moving escalator with no treats to lure him. I had to walk down in the wrong direction for a few seconds before he would hop on, but then he was good to go. We even went back for good measure today and went back down the talking elevator and through some metro tunnels ... and we didn't even get yelled at. He's a fun little guy.
=)
Great job wrightie...how smart to think of getting him on one of those...mercy...I could just see Amber now....NO way!!! Mercy...the automatic doors at PetSmart took forever when she was younger...ughhhhhh!!!
Thanks, Chantell. He was a really good boy about it. I didn't even have any treats to lure him on to the escalator. I just walked 'downhill' for a few steps until he gained the nerve to step on. Once he did, he just rode to the top like a Champ.
I have not even taken him to PS yet - I was avoiding the germ thing, but I guess it's safe now. He's 17 wks old and had a few rounds of vax. Automatic Doors - that sounds like a good project for this weekend!
LOL THAT was made it even more impressive - the no treat thing!!! Amazing!!! I always avoided the super pet stores till the babies were 16 weeks+ (read ALL shots). Something about the loudness of the store the auto doors and those clanking shopping carts...made me feel like it was a well rounded experience.
Oh, it's a great experience! Well ... except for the odd bad run in with other dogs, but I'll remain hopeful. ;p
We went to a Carnival the other day. It was a total fluke as I just happened to be driving passed with him as there was one going on in my town. There were tons of people, children, a VERY LOUD speaker system, pony rides, kiddie rides, etc. etc. I walked his puppy butt all over that place and introduced him to lots of things, including generators and blowing fans. This little guy is really brave. I couldn't be happier! Fingers & Toes crossed that this lasts well into his adulthood!
Wrightie w/your continued emphasis on his socialization...no crossing of toes/paws needed...you're doing a fantastic job!
HAH! You're funny. Let's see what happens once he hits (EEK) Adolescence!
Just remove any breakable valuables at that point (maybe before hand)....you'll do just fine
Wrightie, whatever you do, DO NOT take him to a 4th of July fireworks show!!
That was a BIG mistake I made with Hutch. Since that outing, if he hears thunder in the distance, he tries to climb on my head. Also, the racket from football and basketball games makes him nervous 'cuz DH gets carried away and stomps his feet and rattles the house. He comes lookin' for me---gets in my lap and tries to sit on my head!!
Wow, it's been a long time since I posted here.
The little guy is now 9 months old. I posted this pic' on the Pets forum, but will cross-post here as well. We've been fumbling our way around the conformation rings recently and have had a few minor wins. This was taken a few weeks ago.
Next, we'll start up another obedience class. I hope to pass our Canine Good Citizen test by Spring and then work towards a Therapy Dog certification.
What's newz with youz?
lol - she looks all grown up now! Looks great - bright, shiny coat ... and Groovy collar!
Wrightie: Zeb looks so very handsome -- nice to see he has graduated from the ear casts! And what talent!
Thanks, Happy! He's a fun dog. I can hardly wait to start getting involved in different dog sports with him. I'm looking for beginner Rally classes right now and not having much luck.
What pretty boys! Sally, that's mighty handy having a canine tiller. LOL
Hey, Wrightie, glad to see you back. I really hadn't looked at the Pets forum but I will start making it a point to look. Zeb is every bit a Dane. He looks so at-home with the world, so dignified.
Sallyg--I bet Hutch would love to join in the excitement with Addy. He jumps at all holes in the ground and tries to poke his head inside. They say that Jack's tails (docks) that are like a cut-off plumber's helpers were especially bred to be short and erect so that hunters could yank their Jacks out of a foxhole when they were ready to quit. For a big shepherd, um, what do you do if she doesn't listen?? Grab her by the ears? LOL!
Fnff--chuckle- I'll remember that tail grab thing next time my neighbor's Jack Russell comes over. She is to die for cute but wiggles so much you can't get a grip on her!
As for what to do when Addy won't listen--why I wouldn't know because she ALWAYS listens to me!...
NOT!!!
Oooh, no. I guess it is time to go to obedience class. I bought the Dog Whisperer book recently. See if it helps me. I think Shepherds are better trainable dogs. I took Hutch when he was 6 mos. old. He was the only dog in the class that wouldn't sit still. Well, not the only one--a white Westie Highland terrier would have barking fits now and then. We got Hutch to sit and stay, heel and I taught him myself to sit up and beg. I can get control f him on a leash, but I am helpless when he is free!!
Oh a puppy fix, Yeah.
Wrightie, I have been wondering about you, looks like you and your puppy are doing fine.
Sally, How about an updated shot of Addy.
No new puppies at my house my old dog Buddy just won't be friendly with other dogs at his house. Isn't real bad when you take him away from home but not here at the house.
Thank you for sharing everyone. Wrightie, that little fellow has grown in to quite a gentleman. Congratulations on his awards.
Ruby
