Very nice, Victor, so hard to believe it's November and you are just getting those colors.
Fall Color 3
Wow Victor! Nice photo's, but like Deb said...can't believe you are just now getting them. What a difference one zone makes!!
Perfect photos, Victor. Worthy of a calendar spread!
Thanks all! We are about one week to ten days later this year.
3 weeks difference from me here in Maine, I do wish it would last longer!
So do I. There was hardly enough time to get the camera out this year.
Actually we are about peak in my neighborhood right now, I would say more than 2 weeks later than usual. Some spots the trees are leafless. Our maple is still full and 90% green.
Lovely shot of your JM, Victor! I really like those!
Victor how many JM's do you have? And Crapes? Do you have a catalog source?
Nice photo.
About 16 or so JM's, including the ones just planted. Dozens of Crapes ranging in size from 1.5 feet high to about 15 feet high. That's dozens of individual plants, but probably about 10 varieties.
Do any of the Crapes stay under 10 feet? And tolerate 4-5 hours of sun?
Quite a few under 10 feet - most of mine are. They really do best in full sun - as much as possible. They probably need at least 6 or so hours to thrive.
Sorry Deb, I didn't answer the sources part. For JM's - Wildwood Maples in CA. Also Fairweather Gardens in NJ. For Crapes, my favorite source no longer sells retail. Another pretty good one though, is Ecolage. They have a great variety.
Thanks Victor. Maybe I need to think of a JM for the spot I was thinking. And maybe I can find a good spot for a Crape. I really do want to create more privacy between the neighbor's house and our back yard. A lot of what I curently have in is probably movable. I've only started 3 years ago.
What height do you need for the screening? How much sun does it get? Does it need to be evergreen? And last, but not least, how quickly do you want / need the privacy? A photo might help too.
Fabulous color in that drive by, Victor.
Oh I love those drive by shots....dangerous as heck but fun!
Are there any nice Crapes that would work in zone 5b? I have a full sun spot.
Beautiful photo Candyce!
Why, thank you, bebop2!
Vel, I believe most Crapes are ROOT hardy to zone 5 but you should double check. That would simply mean you treat it like a Butterfly Bush and cut it to the ground each late Winter. Blooms on new wood so no problem there.
Awwwww. So it wouldn't get very big, would it? Drats. On the south side of our brick house I can almost push the zone to a 6b. But if we got a cold winter, well, I don't know. Do you have any favorites?
Well when I went to look for cold hardy varieties, they all kept saying root hardy to 6, not 5! Anyway, here is a list from a good source.

Thanks. They look nice but I can't push my zone quite that much. Maybe someday a cultivar will come out that would like it here.
All your pics are great Victor, but that last one is perfect, so much detail!
Now you're posting too quick, I meant the Mapleleaf Viburnum.
Thanks Deb. Looks like leather, doesn't it?
Yes, it does look thick. I want to touch it. I was just looking at Viburnum, and wondering if I liked it, but that one I do.
