thanks victor and one. i love my rain chains; they are so much more aesthetic than downspouts. i've asked for another one for xmas, a nice copper one composed of large rings. hope santa brings it :-)
Fall Color 3
Wow, you got so much more ice than we did here in Pa. I am in Millersburg, about 40 miles No. of Hbg. We got barely 2 inches of snow. Temps have not been above 25 for two days now. Our highway crews have the main roads clear and dry. Low this AM was 7 deg. on the porch.
Cool photos, Kudrick! I've never seen a rain chain....how does that work?
se_eds - Welcome! It sounds pretty darn cold where you are!! Ouch!
Nice Kudrick!
Onewish, Beautiful shot of late fall no-color!. Maybe that should be the next thread title.
that sounds good to me Dave
even though ice can be dangerous and damaging, there's nothing like the sight and sound of it in the morning after a storm.
i just took this pic of a different rain chain. this one is copper rings and brass links. you get rid of the ugly downspout, leaving an opening in the gutter. some chains come with a gutter adapter, but you can just suspend the chain with a coat hanger (it doesn't show). the rain flows along the gutter and down the chain to which it clings through surface action and goes into a "whatever". i have a big whiskey barrel that i use to collect the water and use for my plants in times of drought. i have modified the barrel to provide and overflow/irrigation system for heavy downpours. the sight and sound of the rain splashing down the chain is wonderful.
Kudrick - that is awesome. It looks so pretty with the ice on it!! Eleanor
thanks eleanor, it is an awesome sight!
you can buy single link brass chain and that works too.
I love that concept - I have barrels too - but when it's windy, the water can go anywhere, including right against your foundation. I tried one last year.
victor, you definitely need a rain chain (or two) :-)
I do have one, but like I said, it did not perform well when it was a windy rainstorm. I love the look, but want the water to go into the barrel, not against the foundation!
i grok
I always liked the looks af rain chains and wondered how well they worked. DH would divorce me if water ruined the foundation!
well, not really, but
I love the look of that, and the sound would be nice! We are having to replace some sills in our old house in NH, so I'd also have to worry about water drenching the foundation.......worth checking out .........thanks, Kudrick! That is so neat with the ice on the chains.
very cool picture Kudrick
Very nice pictures Kudrick, We are having day after day of snow, sleet and more of the same.
thanks all. keeping paws crossed that foundation stays intact.
Great shot kudrick! And it was nice to be reminded of Stranger in a Strange Land!
thanks dave. it's been a while since i've read it, but i've always loved the word :-)
Brings back college days for me. I agree, its a good word.
it brings back college memories for me too. we must be close in age. i'll be 57 on monday :-((((
53 here, but close enough.
I'm a little younger, at thirty sixteen.
hmmm...I'm thirty twenty-three
33 1/3
Old enough!
Too old in body but young at heart!! Eleanor
Eleanor, my dear. You will never be 'too' old.
victor, is that your age or your speed?
Both.
ha ha victor. i just posted something in the prayer forum that you might like to read, if it hasn't been deleted like all of my jokes (some of which you might like).
Becoming younger every day........Yay retirement!
that is one of my all time favourite books.
I missed the book you are referring to.
stranger in a strange land.
Oh! I was one of the people who brought it up. This advancing middle age thing is getting scary
Thin you better change the 'ing' to 'ed', Dave!
If you can thin me better, I'll agree to whatever you want
