Welcome to Debbie and Grandmaggie!
Catching up:
I haven't noticed a decrease in the vibrancy of fall foliage in CT.
I think Spring & Fall are the most glorious times around here. If you love snow, you really need to go to northern NY or New England because lots of us don;t have reliable snow cover in winter. To me there is nothing drearier than a cold gray rainy day.
Fall Color 3
Welcome back Dave!
Sometimes I like days like that. I stay home and get so much 'inside' stuff done.
Yes, Anita, sometimes I hope for a rainy day just to get caught up on household chores.
When it's nice outside, I'm outside.
Welcome Grandmaggie! Yeah another Jersey girl.
Victor that was a nice pic from your prison cell. No barbed wire, huh?
Schicken, Candyce, Donnie, don't know if I ever mentioned how much I LOVE your state. I'd move there tomorrow if my husband would let me.
I love it too, but from late April until now.
Very nice Debby!
flowerjen - I think I can speak for all the NH gals in saying that we'd love to have you move to our area too! (Except don't even think about it until I get back up there!!!) LOL PS...start working on your husband......he'll love it too!
Debilu, you must have had a beautiful day. Lovely colors.
Great shots Deb! Was that near your home?
No fall foliage shots of my own but thought I'd share this link that my mother sent me http://vintagewings-millersfield.com/fallfoliagecoasttrip2007.html - some really nice shots of the area where I used to live in Maine.
Debilu - beautiful colors.
Our's are past peak and the leaves are about 60% down. DH took the week off and is working on picking them up. He wants to dump tons of his shredded leaves on the flower beds but I have to tell him everyday they are not ready to be bedded down for the winter - no frost yet. I did put some in the gardens around the plants as compost to break down in the soil. My DH has this vacuum/shredder that he wears across his shoulder while picking them up - works good on dry leaves. Doesn't hold much more than a couple of bushels but he dumps it in the wheel barrel or on a tarp and it works well in the garden.
Schickenlady - Love the old cars - I've always been fasinated by them. Lake George has an antique car show every year and it's awesome to see them driving around town. Eleanor
Thanks everyone,
The trees in the pics were in Mendon Ponds Park, which is about 3 miles from my house.
Not quite peak yet, but some of the trees really stood out.
Beautiful colors Deb!
rcn48, thats link is great! I have always wanted to take a plane ride during Fall Folliage. Auntie did it one year during the winter and she took pictures too. It was beautiful as everything was covered in snow.
Did it do your heart good to see 'Home" is all it's glory or did it only make you home-sick?
He doesn't like the snow so unless you suddenly stop getting snow I don't think there's any hope.
Eleanor, I would put the leaves on now. No need to wait.
I'm like most NH residents ... love this place from April until the end of October. Love the warmth of a wood fire around Christmas and New Year's Day. The rest of winter can stay up north - closer to the Pole, thank you.
When we were in Laconia we were wondering what those upper doors on everyone's garages were. When we found out, my husband was like "NO THANK YOU".
Okay, you've piqued my curiosity - what are they?
There are little doors above the main garage door and they are for the snow mobiles when the snow is covering the garge door and you can't get your car out. How's that for snow???
Fine except that if you went off the garage with it, you'd likely sink into a wall of snow. You wouldn't be able to move.
Don't know how that would work, must be nice and compacted snow.
Yes but what could possibly compact it down to the level of the top of the garage?
I don't know, anyone from NH out there want to answer that question????
Bigfoot?
pixie, I really enjoyed seeing "Home", but have to admit I do get "home-sick" at times, but then I remember the snow and bad memories of THE ice storm, and grateful for what I have here :)
Rick attended a photo seminar last weekend in NC and finally loaded some of his fall foliage pictures - unbelievable beauty in those mountains - hope to get some posted here soon.
Wow, each one is prettier than the next!! Love the cliffs.
Beautiful Debbie. Love the waterfalls - one of my favorite subjects. I always do the long exposures. Gives it such a dreamy feeling.
High windows on barns (and garages) are a throw-back to the hay barns. The farm hands would sleep in the barns, and if the snow got way too deep, they would throw out the hay from the high windows for the cattle. Two things were accomplished at the same time ... how Yankee of them. The cattle got fed, and the farm hands managed to have a walkway 'plowed' for them so that they could open up the barn doors.
Ahh - very creative! Thanks Candyce.
rcn, beautiful autumn photos.
