The light was really strange because although it was sunny, parts of the gorge were in shadow.

These fantastic shapes were carved out by glaciers. The CCC built the steps, walls and bridges in the 30's.

I'm from Louisiana (mid south) but I couldn't help but enjoy ya'lls beautiful photos. What an awesome way to visit around the USA and see what other fellow gardeners are experiencing. Thanks to all for the beautiful views.

Debbie - Welcome! How nice to hear from another southerner! I've gotta start saying "y'all" again.....thanks for re-orienting me! LOL How are things down in Louisiana these days?? Last I looked at the news, it looked pretty wet! Hope all is well where you are!

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Hi donnie, It is soooo wet and dreary. It hasn't rained today, but yesterday it rained so much my yard had 2" of water. Today there has been no sunshine. My little snapdragons and pansies are leaning over from all the rain abuse. The temp is wonderful however. Thanks for the reply and thanks to everyone that has shared these beautiful photos.

Love all 3 Victor, I've been thinking about Amsonia, of course, I want everything.

Thanks Deb. Here is Crape Myrtle, starting to get it on. This one is probably my best one for color. Literally looks like it's on fire. Will have better pics soon.

I fell in love with Crape Myrtle when I was in Maryland. I don't think it would be hardy for me. Nice photo. I'm still surprised at how much you have.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

It should be root hardy for you. Stems would die back in cold Winters.

The Crape Myrtle blooms for a long time right?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - the one pictured starts in the second half of July and goes well past Labor Day.

So what's your favorite shrub or small tree?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Too hard to pick just one. Would have to be a list, including Japanese Maples of course.

Victor, these are the first photos I have seen from you since I started checking into these forums. What a treat. Love the Amsonia.

What amazing photos. I was born in Baltimore,Maryland and now that I am 55 ,I still have never seen my birthplace. We moved to Louisiana when I was 2. I would love to take a train up the east coast next year, stopping in DC and Baltimore and going on up to New York. What time of the year would you folks recommend. The fall photos make me want to go now.:)

Debbie - it's beautiful in the Northeast any time of year!! Fall has the beautiful colors, winter has those same trees and shrubs covered with a blanket of snow (and of course ice and cold and getting stuck in the snow), spring has everything coming back alive, and summer has the beautiful colors of blooms (and of course the heat and humidity and thunder storms)!!!!!! Take your pic as there is always somthing interesting!!

Debbie:

I would recommend visiting New England, or the Northeast in mid to late October. I would also recommend moving back!!

I would have to say all the seasons are nice, but Fall is the best!

Bebop - my primary computer - my notebook, with all my photos and software, etc., is down. That's why I have not been posting for about ten days. I have posted many photos, including in PlantFiles.

Do you have any word yet, Victor, on when you will have it back? You must be soooooo frustrated that you aren't using your primary computer.

Not yet Candyce. I'm waiting for my computer expert friend who's out of town now.

I think 1990?? The start - hauled these 2 cars home from Black ??? Mass. They were almost in RI

Then a year or so later. It is a 1938 Chrysler Royal Coupe. My DH is a mechanic by heart.

This one started out worse. He paid 400 bucks for it and I said WHAT DO YOU WANT THAT FOR?????? I can't find a picture where it is actually done. It now has pin stripping on it. It is a 1936 International truck chopped down into a street rod or a rat rod. This thing has some power and cammed right to the max. At a stop sign it will try to lunge forward.

This one got done eventually. No picture finished. It was mine and I hated it. 1956 Chevy.
