Best/Worse & What did I learn today..visit with friends Pt18

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

ahhhh....

Best:- IL finally left, got in more fall bulbs (I am the planting-est lil woman..lol), helped the daughter decorate a pig for a school project

Worst--well, this doesn't happen often, but I didn't get exactly what I wanted once today, and no one likes that

Learned: that even though all kinds of good things happened today, I still had to be human and get a little miffed when something wasn't perfect

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

That santa is sooo cute, I want to pinch you B. I love the walls, Sage green is almost my very favorite color if not my favorite and the border is so cute too.

Liz I live in a once every 200 year Fema flood zone that we laughed at in irritation till two years ago when we actually flooded. So we should be good for another 198 years.

Pacifica, CA

Morning,
It is so sad about the fires in California. I can't imagine having to leave one's home and everything in it.. It is on the news this morning and I read the thread Hellnzn linked to....but the important thing is to be safe..

Wonder..glad you are getting some help with your troubles at work.

Seedtosser..what a time you have had with machines..incredible!..

Betty..how did you do with Bingo..did you doze off..I dozed off watching Boston Legal last night..woke up at 12:30 am and toddled off to bed.

Our weather has settled down to normal temps here..we set a record high on Monday..I was sitting out in the sun reading a book for awahile..it was wonderful..
I'm still putting things away from the garden..little bit at a time..

Have a great day everyone.
Cheers,
Carol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning..drove in on my own this morning..Suzanne slept in which meant she'd be about 1 hr. late so thought I'd better venture in..traffic of course was heavy..sitting here with coffee and western sandwich in hand..lol..mmmmmm tasty

Carol did fall asleep while they played music in between the games but was able to catch up..needed G49 for the big one but no go...

Did manage to watch Dancing with the Stars although I fought the nodding but then they started with California Burning and it just made me sick, woke me right up thinking about all those poor people...and of course, worried about my California DG friends...

Liz, I'll try and find the roundrobin trade..have no idea where to look..am posting out my commitment in ornament exchange..same as you are on..wish I had gotten your name..lol

Liz..that would be so much fun to do...have a xmas sleigh that's easy as 1-2-3 done with material...let me know if you want to try one and we'll set up a thread and I'll post step by step and we can try to plan a time so I'm on-line to answer any questions...let me know..I think it would be so cooooolllllll Did same on another MSN group and they did a wonderful job....

Pacifica, CA

Hi All!

It's RAINING!!!! We have not had rain in over TWO months and in fact the city council just voted last night to have mandatory water restrictions. It's suppose to rain the rest of today and thru Friday so while that will help a lot, I don't think it will be enough. At least I don't think we will have anymore hot weather to make it worse. I'm just glad because for the first time, I had the front lawn aerated and I planted seed and it's finally coming up!

Sure wish I could send some of this rain to CA. I cannot imagine having to leave my home and lose everything. And all the poor animals and pets. Those Santa Ana winds just sound wicked!

I'm at work right now and just finished my lunch. I was totally exhausted yesterday. I went up to watch TV and lay in the bed at 8:30. I made it almost to the end of Dancing and then I crashed. I woke up in time to see Mark Cuban be let go. I just don't want my guy - Helio Castroneves to be let go. He and Julianne Hough have great chemistry!

Well, back to work. Will try and post tonight. You CA friends stay safe!!!

Jeannine

bye for now

ps ... so glad many of DG members still have homes to go to...prayers being said...

Glenview, IL

Hi-

Just got home from work...all household stuff done, so I get to play on computer tonight.

Betty, would like to try making a sleigh...would be so much fun. Hope your headache has subsided and your class is great.

Best: This morning I made someone happy!
Worst: Nothing for myself,
Learned: Any problems I may have are just a small annoyance to what others must endure.

Sure hope you all had a good day.

A little food for thought for today....

Stress

A lecturer when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water and asked "how heavy is this glass of water?"

Answers called out ranged from 20g to 500g.

The lecturer replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long you try to hold it. If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance. In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes."

He continued,
"And that's the way it is with stress management. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on. "

"As with the glass of water,
You have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again.
When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden."

"So, before you return home tonight, put the burden of work down.
Don't carry it home. You can pick it up tomorrow.

Whatever burdens you're carrying now,
Let them down for a moment if you can."

So, my friend, Put down anything that may be a burden to you right now.
Don't pick it up again until after you've rested a while.
*****
Here are some great ways of dealing with the burdens of life:

* Accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue.

* Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.

* Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.

* Drive carefully. It's not only cars that can be recalled by their maker.

* If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.

* If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

* It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply be kind to others.

* Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on.

* Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.

* Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late.

* The second mouse gets the cheese.

* When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.

* Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.

* You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person.

* Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

* We could learn a lot from crayons... Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names, and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.

*A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Have an awesome day and know that someone has thought about you today...I did.

Pacifica, CA

judy, bet your happy to have the computer nice to see you post

best: messed up, i lost a day now it is two days left to vacation

everyone have a great evening liz

Glenview, IL

AHAHAHA...is flour involved?
what are you baking?...Um who gets to clean the kitchen???lol

Shear? as in scissors? must be the same culprit as my crafting scissor snatcher!

Good to see you too.

I am enjoying computer time. Tonight been bouncing around DG. (lurking) It's great to be able to read at my leisure. hehehe, I am going to be crossed eyed...too!

Pacifica, CA

umm she's bringing the flour lol guess i better get some xtra incase things get out of hand lol yes scissors they were not the 300.00 obes they were the cheap 59.99 ones but can you immagine someone stuping that low...

game plan is cookies and cupcakes think cousin wants to show up to see if there is a flour fight.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Girls just left..I'm on the tired side...thank goodness 3 didn't make it tonight...gave me a little more time...

Jeannine..just love the stress management info..will have to print it and post it in the office..

O.K. everyone..who ever would like to do a 'victorian sleigh' project...no painting experience necessary, just wanting to have fun, please let me know by let's say Sunday..Monday I'll mail out the santa's...

I used MDF from Home Depot..they have pieces of 1/2" which will they will cut to specification..probably the sleigh top 12"w x 18"h...would cost about $4.00 including the cuts...I have scroll saw/band band saw but jig saw could cut the piece that you purchase so that top and bottom have a bit of design....the runners are done with strapping..$1.29 for 8'..so very inexpensive...guess the actual wood for sleigh will run you about $5.00

If any of you can't get the sleigh made I could send you one...this would be open to absolutely EVERYONE...just a fun thing to do...

Will start a thread in which I'll show the making of the sleigh..easy as 1-2-3..went into the back shed and found one to give you an idea of what we'll be doing...as well, have loads of material so I'll send you a santa to cut out in detail..only thing is there are no more blue's but there are 4 to choose from..different designs and color...let me know which one you prefer...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Here are the 4 different santa's...tell me which one you prefer...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

The painting is done with saran wrap..no brushes..(a liner did help though when doing trunk of trees but not necessary..again, you don't even have to have ever painted before...this will be fun...can't get together to do a Christmas craft in person, but we can on-line...

Laura, I sent you a santa in the package I sent you..hopefully DH can cut you out some type of sleigh...watch for the thread, show it to him and I'm sure he can...

Well, 4:45am comes early..I'm off to bed..Paul didn't mention working from home on Friday so cross your fingers...feet and whatever else..lol...need Friday off....

Pacifica, CA

betty, the beidge /tan coat one the saran wrap has my curiosity do you still have that pattern of the xmas goose in the boxes? off to bed to nite all

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Betty, that is such a neat project. I have a sleigh already, small one, but am thinking now of putting a design on it.

I don't do Halloween, though I have enjoyed seeing what all of you have done...think I told you already that one of my children's friends was killed when they were about 4 or 5 years old. she was with her dad and a drunken driver swerved up on to the sidewalk and killed her instantly, injured her dad, but he survived. It was the saddest thing. My kids were supposed to have gone with her and her dad that night, but it was rainy and one of mine had a cold, so I kept them home and they just handed out treats, all dressed up of course. anyway, that was many years ago, but still lingers. My kids did trick or treat after that, but with very little enthusiasm, most of the time I took them to a party at church, or sometimes I let them have a party here at home, but just could never bring myself to decorating except for carving a pumpkin.

However, Christmas is another story....and this year I will have a 10 foot tree just for Ethan. I also decorate outside, have a lovely holly tree just off the back deck and it already has its lights on it...not lit of course, but the entire block enjoys it. and the birds enjoy the decorations I put on it, too.

anyway, thanks for all the ideas. I hope you have a good day tomorrow, and I still wish you would go to a doctor about your headaches.

Liz, can't wait to see what your christmas decorations look like.....take lots of pictures!!!

i have been glued to the news watching the fires in california....such a loss, such tragedy. I don't know anybody there, but am so concerned for them.

all is well in my neck of the woods....drizzling rain and much cooler at night. I need to bring my houseplants in.....hope it isn't raining because that will be my job tomorrow.

sleep well......hugs to you.
shar

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

nite nite all

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, turned down the heat last night before going to bed, this morning it was chilly/chilly and I just wanted to stay under the covers but..made my way to work...hoping Paul will give us tomorrow off again..aren't we awful...

Laura, you should get your parcel anyday..not sure what santa I sent but am sure you will love it...your first step will be to cut away all the white non-patterned material so that the actual design is what is left...we'll do fine as we can photo back and forth..and yes, makes it difficult when post office is closed when I leave and when I get home .. leaves Saturday to pick up my mail...so let's hope it's in..I'm anxious/anxious...the stained glass book I sent you Laura has a lot of beginner information and patterns..couldn't sent all the glass I had packed because of weight..let me know if the sponge that fits in the solder stand is there, if not I'll mail it along with the fid..(tool to crimp the lead foil onto the glass..really anything flat such as popcicle stick could be used..but will send it along...

Liz,I'll send off the beige one..I've so many left over from 2 years ago, I'll send a couple if you wish...as for the Canada geese, yes I have the pattern on cardboard ..did you want me to end you box dimension and geese pattern..they were so pretty..most of the girls used them this summer as planters...let me know...t.v. is saying that they've made progress with getting the fires under control..thank goodness...so glad you are all ok...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Shar, that's a very sad story...I'm sure that each and every Halloween the family is in your thoughts... would you like to join us in our trial run of "Best/Worse and what did I learn friendship - Christmas workshop"??? Hope you do, it could be a lot of fun...just pick which Santa you like...

I usually decorate mid November for Christmas as I love all the pieces I have...when Roger died and I sold my home I gave away most of the over 50 large boxes of decorations away..some beautiful pieces..many given to Greg and Jeff..brought back so many memories as Roger complained a lot about having to bring all those boxes in but l'm sure he loved every minute of it..if someone would come he'd show them all the pieces I had done, if the ranted and raved at their beauty, often the pieces would go home with them, he'd say "Oh, just take it, Betty can always make another" OMG, sometimes I'd spend 30-60 hrs. on a project...my home was a showplace at Christmas..did home tours as part of a group..then one Christmas I prided myself on new pieces I brought back from Texas/Tennessee and decorated early..within the week, Roger became ill and we spent Christmas in the hospital and he passed away New Years Day..came home to all the Christmas decorations, packed them away and they didn't come out for years/years..gradually they are coming back into my life..so I've started again...it's my time of year...it's when I'm at my best...the pre-christmas traditions, family, friends, my home...it's really what life is all about..so I will share photo's as I decorate...lol...you'll be sorry you've asked to see some...lol/lol

Judy, you love being creative...want to join us..pick a Santa and I'll ship it off this weekend...and yes you can do it..guarantee that you will all want to make several ...so easy..

Liz. .. see the background, trees, snowbank..will it's all done with saran wrap..so, buy yourselves a box...you will need a jar of decopage...easily available at any store i.e. Walmart, Michaels, Joanne's and for you Laura, not sure..probably will have to ship a jar down there...

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Yep, count me in, Betty.....thanks.

Pacifica, CA

yes would love the geese pattern

Victoria Harbour, ON

Liz do you have access to raw wood??? they look their best done that way...

raw wood, not playned (?) on one side..very textures...

Glenview, IL

Good Morning,

How exciting this is going to be! Betty, Thank you...tough decision, I really like the Santa With the Backback on holding the small tree...Will get the supplies this weekend! I still am unclear what MDF is, guess I'll ask at HD.

Oh Shar, So sorry for the loss of your little friend, and the memories that come each year for it.
Will look forward to see how you Celebrate the Christmas holidays!
Hope your day turns out to be beautiful so you get your work outside done. Were you able to get help with your Fern? Hhehe, do you have a big space in your house?

Laura, Glad to hear your days at work have been good. How nice to have a three day weekend! Hope you will be able to work in your gardens? Are you still in Spring?...OK here is a really dumb ?, I found the address exchange (finally) and i cannot access because my address isn't in there...Went to my preference page, was able to add my b-day...but where oh where do i add my address? I am so lost.

Liz-It is a terrible that someone would steal anything, no matter the cost, but I got to say wow, I thought sewing scissors were expensive. Too bad someone wasn't able to catch the person! ---I hope you and sis have a great time. So tell me with the bake off do you try and out do eachother or is just a wonderful get together and have fun,? Hope cousin come and has fun too.
well better get to work here.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'll try to lead you through the address exchange...

So you know how to get to this point, go under 's' to your name,
click on your name and it will come up with...then underneath your information you click 'edit' and my dear friend at this point you can post you address...

Hope this helps...

Glenview, IL

Thanks!! had to still ask for help Terry sent a direct link, and tadah
I am in!

Betty, just had a thought-I am going to invite my kids to this craft and maybe another friend...we can all learn together.

So tomorrow is our big Halloween Day here at work! Boohoo, I have to miss most of the activites due to parent/teacher conference in the middle of afternoon! Oh well, at least I'll have an extention to weekend.
Will bring my camera in the A.M. and take pictures of all the different decorations, staying late tonight so i can run and play tomorrow. What fun! I am getting a couple bags of the new recees benut butter bar for my Caouldren!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sounds like a lot of fun...too bad you'll miss part of the celebration...we're are all on baited breath to see if Paul is giving us tomorrow..doubt it, looks like he's putting his head to the grind to make up for loss time...hmmm..maybe I should tell him we were here holding up the fort and deserve another Friday.....can hear him now...

actually, when I taught the workshop most of the people did 4 sleighs..each with different santa's and gave them away as gifts...while waiting for one to dry, you move on the 2nd so on so forth..so let me know and will ship you the amt. of Santa's required...my goodness, we did hundreds, even though you might do 10 at same time, each and everyone will take on different look..and besides, how can you go wrong with such a good teacher....must be 'be positive about yourself' day..lol...

mdf is multi density fibre board..quite cheap..Home Depot sells it in 2x4 - 2x8 4x8 pieces...so if you were to purchase a strip of 2 x 8 you'd end up with ..2' x 4' gives you 4 tops ..then at same place they sell strapping...one piece should give you 2 sets of runners...will cut out paper pattern for top and runners..

So funny, checked my labtec camera here at work and it does a video..no voice though not sure if I have to get a microphone..have one at home...I could do little parts on it and post..then you would see it better...so on a mission to check that out...lol...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Late lunch, gorgeous outside today..need a sweatercoat but otherwise it would be a lovely day to be out gardening...Paul said we must work tomorrow to catch up..so sad..had hoped for 1 more day...Liz, guess where I was at lunch..there is a boutique that sells Royal Dalton, Tricia Romance items AND ornaments...well I was able to find a 'special' one for the ornament exchange we are on..now I'll have to try and find a box so that it won't get smashed in transit...might go back and buy 'ME' one..lol...better go back and check the ornament trade thread to see when it must be shipped....

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG..just sooo excited...Paul went out the door, said 'have a nice weekend - won't be in' then a few minutes came back and said ' might as well work from home tomorrow...' yipppeee...
tired/tired of these headaches, so I'm going to stop in on my way home tonight, have perscription and see if I can't order new ones...so there goes this weeks pay...lol...

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

thanks betty i will keep an eye out for it
on my way to the pyscologists this morning. will post later.

xx

Victoria Harbour, ON

No travelling for 3 days, except of course for my Saturday class, but that's only 40 miles each way....

Was excited about the 'collector' ornament I had bought for a round robin exchange...then started to think, what if the person who gave her likes received it and it wasn't on her list..she may not like it, so went shopping after work and purchased another that meets her request...so, guess I have myself a collector ornament..lol..that's ok..also stopped in and will be wearing new eyeglasses probably by next Friday..there went $485.00 real quick..

So here I am, a full evening ahead of me and I'm thinking..hmmm what to do, made the simple choice of taking my bath, then putting my feet up, getting out a crossword puzzle book, watch t.v. for about 10 minutes before I start dozzing off and think of all the things I would like to accomplish tomorrow..lol..

Do hope you've all enjoyed your day..will check in before I snuggle into bed...

Pacifica, CA

judy, its hard to watch everyone in the store i just cant believe they hid the package in another box of goods and cut the shears from its plastic holder their just to much! no were not competive we just bake and argue why hers dont look like mine and why she's the black sheep and how come she has no talent its the usual lol i just sit there and tell her, she's going to get old and grey if she keeps carring this 40 year grudge with her but it will be fun i always enjoy time with her even if its one hour of you have talent its just in other fields of creativity cool tak e pictures of halloween.
shar, how sad to have such a thing happen on halloween hope you doing good to

laura, i hope you session was a good one will be thinking of you

everyone have a good evening

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

hope everyone is doing well...still raining here, hate to complain but it zaps my energy

Best: the boyfriend had a couple of friends stay over last night (they went to a concert), met some nice new people...one of the guys was um...cough...anyway

Worst: no worst really, just tired cause of the rain. My daughter crawled into bed with me this morning and we both fell back asleep! SHe was almost late for school, but it was okay

what I learned: nothing lost from occasionally rolling over and getting some extra rest
