Wow, Dawn, I'm so glad you're safe. You certainly had angels watching out for you.
I've been keeping up with reading but not getting too much of a chance to post. I've been spending more time over in 'diaperland' lately. When I decided to use cloth diapers with Ella I had no idea how nice some of them are nowadays. I've decided that I want to try some different kinds out so I've been scoping out some deals and doing a lot of drooling. I can't believe people pay $40 for a diaper. Sure, some of them are really cute but they're still diapers. Eventually, I'd like to make some myself too but that will have to wait until after hallowe'en - our haunted room is where all my sewing supplies are.
This morning I went to the school and did some music with DD's class. Her teacher is wonderful but struggles with music. We made a rainstorm together, listened to music and sang songs about ghosts. I really enjoyed myself - and the kids had fun too. I don't think I'd want to teach full time or anything but I like to go in occasionally. This school used to have a full-time music teacher but with cut-backs, they can't afford one now. It's hard for the classroom teachers because a lot of them are really intimidated by trying to teach music. I used to volunteer a lot but I took last year off to have a baby. I took Ella with me today and she was really good so that was a nice.
Anyway, on with my day and my list of things to do.
Best/Worse & What did I learn today..visit with friends Pt18
http://www.myfoxla.com/myfox/pages/Traffic/Detail?contentId=4659110&version=2&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=VSTY&pageId=10.3.1 This should be a link to the footage. We were next to the really mashed up car in front of the sears van, that was where the poor man and woman were killed. I know I'm going on about it, but it is like one of those experiences that you think, One minute ago we were riding next to those people making plans for the day and in a twinkling of an eye, they are gone and still they are next to us there. Ya know there were many more involved than they have there, alot of us drove off real slow but continued on, even some with some damage to their cars left the seen, we saw a lot more accidents and atleast 20 more cars that were all over the freeway dented up and facing the wrong way. Many must have left before the CHP came or atleast the camaras. Well enough of my adrenaline. glad to be here feeling very fat.
I don't know how anyone affords a child, especially young couples. Diapers and formula alone will kill you.
OMG Dawn, to think you were right in the middle of all of that and come out without a scratch..wow/wow...you are not going on and on about it..I imagine if I was in the same situation I'd be a basket case today...Lord sure was watching over you both!!!
Gillian, when my boys were babies (both born in 1969-one Jan1st and other Dec. 8) I had a diaper service called Diaperland and Storkland..they delivered and picked up diapers..I don't even think we washed them out..so long ago..can't believe that diapers go for that much money...how much fun is that, working with the kids-teaching music..Ella must have been in her element...
Boss in good mood today..he had therapy, then acupuncture and then some kind of stretching program..he's still in a lot of pain but making it through the day...was alright that he was in bad humour yesterday lol because we got Friday off..or kind of..I just have to answer transferred calls...so, was worth it...
gets dark so early now, it's overcast but it looks like evening is setting in...have to stop in Barrie, Suzanne needs to pick up birthday cake for my MIL..she's not doing well since FIL passed in Jan..some of the kids will be dropping in..will have to call my son to remind him to call her..I don't go because, well because she still has some issues with my ways since Roger died, so always ask about her, send her cards/gifts etc. but keep away...no sense flogging a dead horse right???? anyway have class tonight..I'll have to change class on 31st to Thursday Nov. 1st because of Halloween..better let painters know tonight...
That is so sad Betty. People are in such a hard position when someone is dieing. My uncle was givn 3 weeks to live and when I talked to him I was not sure how to act and what to say, he was seemingly detatched from our conversation and my aunt seemed to really not want everyone to decend on her at that time of shock. I understood but my dad seemed like he thought We should both go. I told him I could tell she didn't even want him to go but understood if he felt he had to but i wa not going to put her through that or my uncle who just seemed detatched. My dad was irritated w/me for not insinuating myself into the picture. Maybe for his own sake. There is just no right way to please all in that situation.
It's quite a thing to experience..you've a wonderful family, loving children, husband you adore, then in one split second you've lost an entire family..wounds come to the surface often, but, I've learned to live with them and value the family and friends I do have...
I'll be busy teaching tonight, in fact another 2 girls just called me at work so that makes 12 if all come..that's quite a handfull, but, on Friday I'll have lots of time and will call Bob and Barb Warry to ask if Jillian (newscaster) is indeed his niece..he's always talking about her and now I'm curious...
Let me know about her, she is quite famous here, she works with Monday Night Football and also does the Red Carpet for the Emmy's and Golden Globes etc.
hellnz thats just aweful.
the shock of it will hit but talking about it is the best thing.
thats the way the mind copes... eventually it settles again. im glad you are still with us. we love you!
betty im so excited! hope its yuor angel....
yes lets hope for another quiet day in terms of the manager.
the weather here today is hot and gusty northerly winds ( hot winds yuk) its 29 celcius, not sure how to convert that into degress but the weather is eratic at the moment. had the heater on last night and now its going to be very hot! our summer get upto about 42c on some days but to chop and change so suddenly, you really feel it.
this is the first weekend coming uo in four months that my DH and i dont have to work. im looking forward to it. going to do some gardening and such and then a BBQ.
hope you all have a good nite and will check in on you later.
xx
Quiet evening for us here so far. Thanks again Laura.
I am trying to find a friend that can go with me to the old Historic district of Pasadena to a historic Bungalow open house where you can tour 6 Craftsman homes and see period furnishings etc. If no one wants to go, I will go myself I think. I love those homes.
Betty what is your version of cottages. What does that mean to you? Here it is a small quaint home, small vacation home usually an older simple style but it also refers to a decorating style. I always hear Canadians talk about cottages and wonder what that is for you guys?
evening all,
jeannine how funny with murphy he still has squeakers in his toys not mine they destroy the squeaker in 30 minutes,i'll say a prayer for you goodd luck on the job frount.
gilli, nice to hear from you how fun was that to get to sing songs in dd class how is the haunted room comming along are you almost done yet?
dawn thanks for the clip got to see more on that accident omg it is just so fast when things like that happen, do you get alot of those kind of sand storms?
betty, oh thats to bad about mil but sometimes you just have to do what you need to do, i bet your having aot of fun in your craft room this evening with your group.
best: counting down the days to vacation
worst: we have a tree at work omg it covers our cars with pollen never had a problem with it this year its too much now things are starting to make sence why i dont feel good now i wish it would rain real good.
learned: my mom wants to go out for her birthday on sunday oh boy this should be interesting!
everyone have a wonderful evening liz
Beautiful people, it's late and boy did I have a night..12 students..bit much..didn't even get to have something to eat, took out 8 boxes of pattern packets for the 2 new people to choose from and they are scattered all over the basement den, you wouldn't believe the craftroom, wow, tornado hit it...will get up earlier in the am and do some cleaning..I just couldn't go to work leaving it as is...stupid of me when I'm the only one living here, but I'd not rest all day knowing it would be waiting for me...so, I'm off for a sandwhich, get Sailor medicated for the night, Riley is in, no sign of Missy but that's ok..this old gal is ready for bed...will comment on posts tomorrow at work...so tired...night/night everyone...
Liz i will pray over that in Jesus name. lol Betty i hope Missy shows up. It is ok if the craft room is amess, it is used.
A neat house/room/fridge is the sign of an idle mind. that's my motto and I'm sticking to it.
cottage down under dawn means pretty much the same. We go for early australian. bull nose porches, floor boards, quaint items... weatherboard houses and such.
home from work and tired!
manager is being as nice as pie for some strange reason. i doubt she has been warned. i think its the calm before the storm.
hmm
morning all,
shar lol
dawn thanks
vicki, love your greenhouse, where did you hear about bubble wrap?i have also seen straw/hay used for insulation to.
laura, do you think someone already talked to her and she's not saying anything?
maby she got in trouble i hope she did the way she's been treating you!
i was curious what is the difference in the money exchange from your to us dollars?
betty, did you tidy up the craft room?dont let me near those patterns you wont find your floor for a week lol did you get to take any pictures on what the girls made?
everyone else have a good day
Morning all...got to work at 10 this morning...fog was so dence "thick as pea soup" we'd say...Paul paid us yesterday so that was our firts clue that he wouldn't be coming in, he could barely move by the time he was ready to leave so that's understandable + gave us Friday off..so, nobody here to know we were late..of course had we not stopped off to have breakfast and drive Suzanne's son back to University we just might have made it on time..lol
Suzanne had a piece of cake she said her mom sent me in celebration of her birthday..doubt Nora did, but Suzanne trying to make me feel better and that's nice of her...I'll eat it with good thoughts..
Margie called me last night to ask if I could put the photo's she had left on Sat. outside in plastic bag...now they'd get damp...told her doors would be open, just go inside, so she asked if she could show the girls with her the house and of course I said no problem soooo at 4:00 a.m. I was cleaning craft room/den and then decided to water the plants, set the watering can too close to the edge of cupboard, again doing 3 things at once and on the floor it went, full of water, so I managed to wash the kitchen/living room and hall way floors...so I'm hoping it won't be too late tonight before I get to bed...
I'm playing this weekend..Greg and Mel should have landed in Calgary by now..friends of their is picking Noah up after school for hockey and I'll pick up Kyle on my way home along with Sophie..so maybe we can do some halloween decorating outside and perhaps I'll cut them a few halloween wood pieces for them to paint...Kyle like doing stained glass so it might be an opportune time for him to make his other 2 grandma's their Christmas gift... Noah, well he just likes to watch t.v. - feet up, and letting the world go bye...lol...
At lunch, Suzanne and I are off to home depot to pick up wood for me to make an extra oval piece so I can paint 2 eagles on Sunday rather than 1 and Suzanne's hubby just loves birds so we decided she's come over tomorrow morning and do homework on the piece while I do mine and next week we'd bring our lunches, use the conference room and I'd teach her how to paint the eagle so she can give it to her DH at Christmas...
sending before I loose it......
Dawn, when I think cottages, it's usually a weekend getaway on the bay..simplified home, designed as not to take your entire weekend cleaning..a gathering place for family and friends..can picture Muskoka chairs lined along the beach, firepit for cozy night fire, boats at the dock, collection of antiques decorating each room making it as cozy as french country decor might do...a place for family memories as everyone gathers on the weekend, pot luck meals...Roger and I would never have a weekend to ourselves...always had drop-ins, had 2 little outback cabins for overnight guests and the boathourse had a top floor with about 6 beds..children loved to spend the night in their own 'club house' lol....
Jeannine, waiting for the good news???? If the job did not pan out then I'm sure the Lord has something better planned for you!!!
Liz..it was quite an array of projects..4 girls are doing the trio altered art pieces, they are coming along but I think I should have taught something quick/quick but they really wanted that particular piece..Rita is doing an umbrella holder..picture of lighthouse on a beach..Nantucket type scene...Shawnee finished her muskoka chair last week, waiting for a piece of wood being made so she brought in 2 ceramic figurines to do..Barb word on a woodpecker..Helen is doing a picnic basket with lid..doing hydrangeas..very colorful
June, scene of firemen..actually teddy bears..Helen 'B' brush holder, Peter picked chicken house so he'll make the piece for it..box with lid (to put in plastic bags and the front and sides has different chickens and is painted as a chicken coop..front has a hole to pull bgs out) and Donna decided to do a christmas project...
So, I really am tired today..I've the finished Victorian Santa standing on my dest and 2 just sitting waiting for the beards..paints out now I just need the energy...
Laura..tomorrow I can make it to the Post office...hurrah/hurrah...kids will be excited to see my 'treasure'
So I am sitting here in the lobby of the 4th floor of my old work bldg just waiting. My interviews went wonderfully and I have a very good feeling about the job. The mgr I spoke w/ last (who would be the decision maker) told me he thinks my day will get better. Fingers crossed!
After I left that bldg (we have 8 bldgs on our "campus") I went over to the bldg I used to work in with the purpose of turning my stuff in. I get a call on my cell from a lady wanting to know if I was workinging today. I said yes, I'm in the parking lot. She was like good, they need to see you at the security desk. So I go into the bldg and check with the security person and she tells me I have been terminated and I must leave the premises. I was like WHAT???
to be continued.....got to go home now.
J
Jeannine...my adrenaline was so worked up reading your post..omg she got the job..excited/excited till I read a little further...now I have to wait right for part 2....maybe the good news didn't filter down quickly enought from head office...oh, you must be so on edge..sitting here with fingers crossed/legs crossed and a prayer on my lips...
Will anxiously await your 'part 2'
OK, here goes....
I had to leave work AND leave my laptop, cell phone and corporate card. This doesn't mean I didn't get the job. It just keeps me from having to go back in and bring it all if I don't get it.
OK, where was I...... So I'm told I have to leave the property and I and I'm a little emotional. I've been w/ this company for over 8 yrs and to be treated like I am a terrorist was very humiliating! Anyway, the girl I was meeting came down and spoke with them and it turns out that someone keyed in my termination to happen at midnight on the 18th (12:01am) instead of 11:15pm. So they are going to reactivate me and if I do get the other job, I can go back in and pick everything up and pray they fix the system before it terms me again. But that's borrowing trouble!
So, I'm sitting here watching Animal Precinct (love that show!) and waiting for the phone to ring!
Listen to what my DH did for me this morning. I got ready to go in for the winterviews and DH and the kids had already left for work and school; I come downstairs and there is an envelope on the counter with my name on it. I open it up and it is one of those musical cards from Hallmark and it plays "Lean on Me". It's from DH and he says to go upstairs and look on our bed so I head up there and on our bed is another card and a box. I open the card and it has two golden retrievers in a pool hanging onto a toy together as they play. The card says that 'No matter what happens today, we will always have each other and to not worry about anything'. In the box was a Jim Shore figurine of a woman and on the base it says "You're on my Mind". I started crying and I called him and said "you should have done this BEFORE I put my makeup on! I couldn't believe how sweet he was. He knows I love Jim Shore and I collect the angels. He just made my day!!
DH and I have joked around that if I can get my job back, that I can go out and buy a king size bed. We have a queen and I really, really want a king! Plus, Murphy can sleep at the foot of the bed (that sold him!). So if I do get this job, I'm going to get a new bed!!!!! :)
I'll keep you posted!!!!!
J
Fingers crossed!
His kindness has also brought tears to my eyes..when you are finished with him can I have him please, please??? all kidding aside, how wonderful for him to realize just how much stress you are under...from the going on's of this morning I would say you do have the job, why else would they take the trouble to re-instate you??? not only am I sitting here with tears, I'm praying...waiting with baited breathe....for, you got it, part 3
then, just think, shopping for a king size bed...lol
absolutely fingers and toes crossed......don't leave us in suspense.
And I expect to see a picture of the new King sized bed very soon.
shar
Hi to all!
Dawn, I am sorry to say I could not bring myself to watch the news. I think the Angels were with you for sure. How incredibly brave you were to jump into the midst of a dangerous situation in hopes to help save lives, I think God saw this and wrapped his arms around you. I was so releived to here you and DH escaped without injury. I am thankful for that and will keep you in my prayers, as I am sure it that that day will be with you for a long time, also for all those involved in the wide awake nightmare.
Jeannine, Oh gosh, I've got you in my thoughts too, looking forward to part three in hopes that you got the job! So nice to here what a sweetheart DH is.
Tropi-So sorry to hear about your kitty. Sure hope you and family are doing ok.
Tangi-Please know you are in my (our)prayers...We miss you!!
Betty,I hope you are feeling better from your bump in the head. Sounds as though it hastn't stopped you...
Hoping everyone is having a good day! I am still outrageously busy, however decided I am TAKING a lunch break and make a post...On a VERY happy note...guess who finally got a new Home computer!!! Will attempt to hook up tonight...Be back in a bit.
Judy
Prayers just went up. What a sweety your man is? Big hugs for him today either way.
I guess cottages are about the same everywhere? I love lodge style ones too like cabins only a lot more mix of wood and local rock, rock patios and wall and lots of forest type areas with little streams. I love cottages, it is so cozy but to live in one has it's challenges in storage unless you have outside buildings and then they are easily broken into as weekend houses in the woods go.
What happned to Tangie, I missed something trying to play catch up?
Hi Dawn, she did not post for awhile then came on and said that she had taken a fall..that was the last we heard from her and it must be at least a month..I sent pkg. and card to home address, many d-mails and we've had to response...very worried about her..checked at my tel. #;'s to no avail...don't have hers, call usa information for her town, no listing for that name ..even went back on all the best/worse threads to see if I could pick something out to be able to track her but not go...checked her membership and think it expires at the end of the month soooo other than prayers for her well-being, not sure how we could locate her..any ideas???
Judy, new computer..wow isn't that exciting, how we'll be able to see you post more often...nice to be busy at work BUT not busy enough that you have to forgo your lunch hours and working overtime, unless of course the funds are used for new computers...lol
missed you!!!
Vicki..nice to see you post...are you involved in wintering your gardens...
Carol (Starzz) going to send out the DG police for you as well..hope you are not doing things to winterize that are too much for you to be undertaking...miss your posts...
Hi Shar...how are you feeling today..eating a little more I hope...you need your strength..guess that daughter of yours is making sure you have plenty to eat..you are probably busy witht he Art Show this week...how exciting is that...
well, I thought I'd accomplish so much, had everything out to paint and realized that the bag I took home yesterday incase some of the colors were that needed by students did not return itself to the office this morning so, had to put everything away..
Sue and I did purchase the wood for the Eagle project...I paid I believe $40.00 for the piece, bought the wood and will make 3 for same price...if you don't purchase your wood from the studio then she doesn't allow you to paint the project..she has to make a living as well...
So here I sit , legs crossed, fingers crossed, trying to stop my eyes from crossing (ha/ha) waiting for the next post from Jeannine...want to see photo's of king size bed as well....
Hi,
Am doing well, thank you...no weight loss in the past week, no gain either, but will take what I can get. When I get below 110, it isn't pretty.
the Art show is up and done, will get pictures at the reception on the 27th to share with you.
worked in the yard all day yesterday, cleaned, trimmed, it was wonderful to be outside. I am waiting for my camera to charge so I can show you the lovely mailbox that my neighbor made for me.....has a planter on it and a planter beneath it. I love it!!!! Neighbors are good....and it was a surprise gift. I get my mail at the post office, but with such a lovely mailbox in my yard, I think that will soon change. They are my angels, kinda like you have....just surprise me with all kinds of things, Lovely people. I planted vinca vine and tons of pansies (which will bloom even in snow) in the top, then in the bottom I put iris, daylilies and more pansies. The iris will bloom first so it is in the back, daylilies next, and probably the pansies will be replaced next summer by petunias, since the pansies don't enjoy our hot summers.
Will take a pic for you before the day is over.
I too am worried about tangie....can't find anyway to reach her.....and I did enjoy hearing from her. Maybe her fall was worse than she let us know. I hate to think like that, but I do get terribly attached to people, too easily I guess.
Laundry done, must fold clothes and put them away. maybe by then the camera will have recuperated from overuse.
more later.
It's 3:08pm - no news yet......
Just had to go to ladies room Jeannine...wasn't an easy task with legs crossed...so, they'd better call soon...hate messes....
Shar..your neighbors are what I call my 'earthly angels'...what a warm feeling to have such things done for you without your knowledge...it will be nice to see your photo's...
You know Tangiegirl (Jan) was so involved in posting and being part of our lives that something is not right..I've had such an uneasy feeling..hate to be the FBI if members just decide to no longer participate on threads but I've checked area forums, threads she was on before etc. etc.only place I didn't was maybe a local newspaper in her area..that thought just came to me so I'll go back and try and find out when her last post was and try to see what I can find...other than that, if we knew another DG member who lived nearby maybe they could make a side trip over...just know something is wrong....
Sure wish I lived closer...my grandmother when she moved to seniors home gave me her fern..looked as lovely as yours..had it on an antique stand facing the light...when Roger died the plant did same...not sure but it might have been because he watered it...just kidding, I watched over that plant each and every day, gave it cold tea and aspirin..was lush green..just not sure why...
Same thing happened recently..I have an ivy in my living room that if I unwound it would be about 40' long..Aunt Muriel gave it to me and each time she visits she ooohhhhs and awwwws but the past few weeks it's on a downhill slide..not going to make it ...again don't know why..3 plants did same..think a bad spirit has been in the house of late....
Love the mailbox and the photo's of the plants...
Had hoped to hear from Jeannine before I leave for home..must remember to pick up the boys and Sophie...lol...
Well...sure hope you made it to the bathroom Betty...hahaha that was pretty funny. Yes Don't forget to pick up the boys, and have a great visit. Did you say working from home tomorrow, geesh can't beleive it's Fridays already, but thank goodness.
Shar, how lovely-the Fern and the mailbox planters..Ethans pumpkins add a nice touch, so sweet. You have such a nice neighbor. Maybe can help lugg the fern in doors for you. It is gorgeous.
...Well i am going home early for a change, hopefully see you later.
Just got home, foggy again, have the boys with me...
Before I left work though I did a crazy thing...I contacted the municipality in which Jan (tangiegirl) lives in, explained the situation, not sure but think it's a small town, asked if they have local newspaper that perhaps I could have access to via the internet..explained how concerned we are...
they may just think it's a scam trying to locate her, but thought I'd give it a try...at least until the next thing I can think about checking...
No word on Jeannine...Judy, here's hoping you'll be up and running on DG..probably have to fight for computer time..lol...
Talk later..sent Kyle to restaurant to pick up supper..too much effort to cook at this time of night...have wood to cut for homework tomorrow....so will check in later this evening...
You be careful fog driving isn't much different from Sand storm driving. I found out the car that had the dead guy in it and his missing passenger who I assumed was his wife, was also a man and they were vacationing here from Canada.
Somebody here named Liz I have a big thank you to give you lady for a surprise I got today.
