51 degrees now....
very light mist; 97% humidity; no wind; cloudy (of course)
Supposed to get near 60 today.
Today's Weather in Your Garden 3
59, misty with a dark overcast.
Still drizzling here - about 1 1/4 inches since last night. Not bad. More forecast for tomorrow. Then some genuine Fall weather - I'm ready for it!
Me, too!
We're supposed to get sun this afternoon! Following that rain is scheduled and more on tap for tomorrow. Hurray!
What did you plant, Victor?
Columbine, Stokesia 'Peachie's Pick', Gaillardia 'Oranges and Lemons', one Corydalis 'Chocolate Stars', one Itea 'Little Henry', one Hibiscus 'Lavender Chiffon' and one Japanese Umbrella Pine - 'Cynthia Waxman'.
Should be receiving six JM's tomorrow or Fri!
How nice! Take photos of those JM's!
Will do. I am underplanting my large JM out front (25 - 30 ft high) with six dwarf ones of differing colors, textures, leaf types, etc.
Rained off and on yesterday - then all night last night. Currently, overcase and humid.
Victor - take before and after shots, please.
Seandor - still gray here but 64 degrees and very damp.
I'd call it misty here. Cold early, then warmer, now chilly again. What do you guys use for rain gauges? Now that we have some... do you recommend an official something or other or can I just measure in a beaker or something? And what's a JM? I know Victor would never plant Japanese morning glories....
Japanese Maple.
I prefer to transplant at this time, it gives everything a head start for spring. Did all my transplanting except for a Golden Rain Tree and the Dawn Redwood I ordered in the mail, (I'm going to squish the Redwood into a bonsai pot). I've got an Acer I'm going to try 'root over rock' so I'm keeping it in it's training pot for now...
Did you order the Golden Dawn Redwood? Mine is about 16 feet tall now.
Ohhh... we have one of those. It defecates on the cars all spring... it doesn't look Japanese at all, and like EVERYTHING the creators of this 50's ranch did with plants/landscaping, it's too big and too close to the house. He was a Korean war veteran and wound up marrying his nurse (!), but he didn't plan for kids (and didn't have any) and wanted it to look ready right away. (I'm not sure he lived all that long...) So ALL the shrubs, trees, what-have-you are too big and wAY too close to the house. It's still a problem for us - the pine tree is overhanging the house and pushing against it, we've already had carpenter ants once and things haven't changed THAT much - there's still brush against the house, there are still window wells full of stuff, I can almost hear the ants come marching one by one!
No, I tried to get that one but they were out this year, it's on the top of my list for spring though, going to order it when I order the Paper Birch i'm going to try to miniaturize!
Great, Victor. I haven't gone out to check ours yet.
Victor - your JM planting sounds wonderful!
Thanks - I hope it all works out. One of the six I plan to use is one I have in a pot since the Spring. It received too much sun and lost all its leaves. It never did get a second set though it still feels alive. If not, I'll have to replace it in the Spring.
Best of luck to you Victor.
Today:
53 degrees 92% humidity Wind out of the NE @ 4 MPH
Supposed to get up to 60 with partly sunny skies
Yes, good luck with the JM's, Victor.
Now it's 60 with 98% humidity and while the ground is wet (I had to put the outside light on to check it) the weather report said 0.00" of rain so it must be leftover from yesterday.
No sun for us today - drizzle in the morning and rain in the afternoon. It feels good to rest!
Thank you. 59 and overcast. Hopefully more rain.
Cloudy with more rain on the way. Eleanor
Yippee! .9 inches of rain since Sunday. Today: 61 degrees at almost 9am. A "soft day."
Victor, I'm planting some smaller JMs today, too.
Have fun, Emily!
Yes Emily - please take some photos. Which ones are you planting?
very wet !!!
So, VG, what brand of rain gauge is that (besides 'do not remove plug')?
Don't remember and I don't think it's written anywhere on it.
Still wet
Still drizzling
Still cloudy
Still rather cool and raw
Overcast again, low 50s. Drizzle / light rain from time to time. Measured about an inch of rain all together since Monday.
Grey and overcast - no rain, though it rained last night.
Weather report shows 0.02" of rain today. It's been drizzling all day and seems like it must be more than that. Now 61 degrees with ESE winds at 4 MPH, gusts 19 MPH.
My socks and shoes are wet
I went walking on two beaches today, searching for more driftwood, and had very wet shoes and socks. Glad to be home and have on dry socks.
Ohhhhh ... chilly.
The Hartford Express is moving northward. Looks like we'll be getting LOTS more rain tonight!!
Victor, I'm putting in Koto No Ito, Ariadne, and Beni Schichihenge. Still have to move my compost bins to make room, but I bet they will love the soil underneath!
Today was definitely a wet-sock day.
I planted Koto no ito last year! I'll tell you my new ones tomorrow. Gotta run and watch the baseball game!
Touchdown!
