I guess it's more the moisture in the air than the temp? I read about it in a weather article once, and it made sense, but don't remember the details.
Today's Weather in Your Garden 3
Temp 48.9° rh 65%
Jezz I hate driving, just saw my life flash before my eyes ten times, that LIE is murder! I bought some yellow and red chrysanthemums, I just could'nt resist! they look like Halloween Candy - I should have bought the Montauk Daisies, they probably would do better here.
Maybe wind plays a role in frost too.
Good morning; I watched the construction of the LIE. It was built over Horace Harding Blvd., which ran through a few towns in Queens. Way back then it was predicted to become a very long parking lot. Temp. is 42, humidity is 79, and the wind is soft and fleeting. DH is home today so I'll only be allowed to play outside a couple of early hours. Just for the record, I comply because I know he is right, not because he said so. While being cantankerous, let me throw in; I don't like this talk of frost. Have a great day and a frost free night. :)
Wow! To see 35 degrees on the computer when last week we were waking up to 60 is just amazing.
Freezing drops of moisture equal frost.
WC: We're half an hour AFTER the end of the LIE and very seldom go that far west. We were both born in Queens, then lived in Nassau but came out here for retirement in the country.
I never thought to check my computer for the temp. Thanks pirl!! I have all of this stuff on my google homepage and the weather is one of them - duhhhh!!! the temperature is 36. We're warmer than you are pirl and we're in zone 5. The river could be keeping us at a higher temp. Other than that I don't know yet cause it is still dark - I say that every morning. I need to start sleeping late so I get up after the sun - that'll be the day!! Just thought of a song "cause that'll be the day when I die!" Can't remember the tlitle but it is an oldie for you youngins' and that'll probaby be the day I sleep in!! I think I'm ramblin' on the wrong thread!! LOL Eleanor
Eleanor ~ you are just fine, and I think of that song often.
This morning there is no frost with the temp right now at 35 degrees.
Humidity at 91%.
There's a slight breeze from the ENE.
It might get up into the mid 50s today for a temperature, but there will be sun instead of clouds to trick our minds into thinking that it's warmer outside.
Eleanor I think it was "That'll Be The Day", by Buddy Holly.
Thick fog just rolled in, too.
It was 39 when I got up, it's now 41 and the humidity is at 81% the wind is coming out of the West @ 6 mph. Expecting a morning shower or 2, then partly cloudy this afternoon with a high of 52.
I think this will be a movie afternoon. Have the movie
'The Reaping' with Hillary Swank but Mallory wouldn't watch in the dark with me!! Hee hee hee. We had to wait until it was daytime as she has nighmares.
Eleanor - that temperature was the one from the 3 AM hour. Currently 54 and sunny. We live on a peninsula so water isn't far - probably about 200' away.
Pixie - I'd have nightmares, too. I do without movies so I'd have to sleep with the lights on.
I tend to be affected by horror movies too but this is about the 10 biblical plagues. Growing up Catholic and being a fan of Hillary Swank I decided to take my chances and watch it. If I have nightmares.......DH is the one paying the price! hee hee hee
We bought a new DVD player in May. It's still in the box.
I can understand that......not much movie watching from May-Nov. here but once in a while I take a sunday off and watch movies with the family.
It looks like a lovely day out there but I remain stuck like glue at DG!
I'm with you Pirl.
Hi all. Back from two days in CT. Yesterday was gorgeous. Today is very nice too. 59 degrees and partly sunny here. Feels like Fall!
Temp 62.9°, rh 45%, Wind WNW @ 9.4mph, Windchill 56.8°F, Barometer 29.82↑
- Beautiful, comfortable Fall Sunday here, although there some heavier clouds approaching from the NW. A bit breezy, but the sun is warm and nice. :-)
daiseycat they were right, it's a parking lot by 7am. But it's the Daytona 500 by 7pm!
pirl that sounds wonderful! I wish I didn't have to but I haven't retired yet, and while my job allows me to work via computer and teleconferences most of the time, I still have to go in about every 6 weeks to let them know I'm not a figment of their imagination! (I love those Pine Barrens near RH).
We were on "the south side" for just a ride the day the great fires began. Now it looks as good as ever.
What, no dew point, WC?!!
Oops! Sorry! 40.2°F :-))
Victor, lighten up already!
Victor - I missed you!
Thanks Pirl! Nice to have Fall weather finally, isn't it?
Welcome Back from lovely downtown East Hartford, Victor!
When I got up this morning, it was 40 degrees - warmer than yesterday....and all day was a beautiful fall day. Now it's back to 41 here.....I think the heat may have to be on tonight. Victor - have you turned your heat on yet?
Candyce - how are things on your side of Keene???
WaterCan - we have to cross the LIE to visit my BIL & SIL, and I can understand just what you are saying.....EEEEEK! Not my cup of tea!! But then, I hate bridges and traffic generally, so I'm not a reliable critic!! LOL
Hi Louise - yes, my wife pressured me into it today. Pellet stove fired up about 3:20!
NJ checking in.. too gorgeous for heat or ac....
DonnieBrook we hate the same things! Victor, welcome back, guess the warden has to have two sets of eyes now! venu209 you must like it cool, we have 55°F here, warmer than the last 2 nights, so far so good. SCWA is gonna miss me but KeySpan Gas just out the welcome mat for me! Had to turn on the humidifier attached to the furnace last night, wish I had a fireplace sometimes but then again... I'd have to hire a chimney sweep!
Daisy - thanks for the song title!! I haven't been on the computer much today so I'm way behind on life in the NE. Went to church this morning, came home and worked outside. I pruned my spirea bushes (yes I know I'm not supposed to now, but they were overgrown and I planted bulbs in front of them. There's still enough old wood to have blossoms on next year. I planted crocus, tulips, and daphodils. Then I made dinner (cooked it myself - not takeout), ate and worked on scrapbooking my vacation pics. What thread am I on anyway - this sounds like it should go on the schedule thread. Oh, it's the weather channel. OK, it was partly sunny or partly cloudy, windy, and chilly with no precipitation. Eleanor
It's 34 degrees with humidity of 87%, predicted to go to 64 degrees. The Stars are so vivid and bright. Sunrise is not until 6:56. Somehow, going to work in the dark makes the workday seem longer. Eleanor you brighten whatever thread your on. The weather has been so wonderfull that I am so caught up. It's great! Stressfree gardening.
Temperature is 53
Humidity 49
WIND CHILL FACTOR 50
Dew Point 34
High for the day is expected to be 65
Sounds like everyone had a great weekend!!
Welcome home, Victor. You were missed.
Today ...
33* at 7 AM
Supposed to be mostly cloudy, but I don't see too many clouds
The high is supposed to be just 58*, but we haven't hit our forecasted highs in a while
Humidity is at 90% and the winds are calm, so there's no wind direction reading
Temp: 43°F
Humidity: 86%
Wind Speed: CALM
Barometer: 30.17 in.
Dewpoint: 39°F
It's supposed to go up to the mid 60's today. I went to Clark Garden yesterday with the girls. Collected a couple of seeds, saw a lizard and lot's of other wild life. Went to Hick's nursery and bought some bulbs, hollytone and ornamental cabbage. Wish I was off today to plant everything.
Thanks Candyce! Temp here is 52 and it's very overcast.
Mostly sunny today.
Some clouds scheduled for tomorrow.
Rain for Wednesday..............we'll see.
Rain for Wednesday, pirl? We will be having a heat wave, they say. LOL The temps might get above 60* on Wednesday for us!!
Right now it's gone up 10 degrees since sunrise - whooooo hoooooo!!
It's absolutely gorgeous today, just like yesterday--blue sky, crystalline air, 53 degrees at 10 am. Leaves are tossing in a light wind. Can't last, but boy is it nice!
We did turn the heat on last night in the house for the first time!! Got down into the low 40s. Outside, that is!
Yes, we had a much cloudier day than had been predicted. My solar panels are hungry - not too many full sun days so far in October.
We also had too many clouds and too little sun. Only a bit over 8 hours today. I can tell fall is here.
