What's blooming? #16

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

I bought this rose at JobLot about 3 years ago Don't know what kind it is:

That's a beautiful rose, saanansandy. It looks orange with a tinge of lavendar in the photo. What a combination!

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

Thanks! It actually changes into a deep salmon color before the petals start to fall!
I also started some Malva from seed and it has done very well(exception of one that my puppies used as a chew toy) It is full of blossoms just about continually! I took this pic this morning:

WOWIE Anita! Your dragonfly pics are GREAT! I had one of those same guys hanging out on my blue lyme grass the other day. I got some good photos but nothing near as good as yours.

Nice pictures everyone, as usual! Thanks for sharing your lovely blooms.

I agree, Victor. October is my favorite month!

Oh, I meant to mention your rabbits Pixie... they are sooo cute! I especially like the mama who lives under Auntie's breezway. She is so adorable with her black-patched eyes and the stripe down her back! Are those wild rabbits? I only ever see plain old brown rabbits here.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

No they are not wild rabbits....some idiot bought a bunch of them then let them loose. They don't like the idiots house because he has a dog he lets run wild and he has heavy equipment going in and out of his yard all day. So they live in mine and Auntie's yard. I'm not complaining.....Auntie is 84 and it just makes her day to get up and see them out her window every morning!

I feel the same way that Auntie does, when I see the birds at my birdfeeders.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

OMG - he has dogs and rabbits running around in his house? I agree, an idiot.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

love the dragonfly!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Me too, Anita, what a wonderful shot!

What a great bunch of bloomin' pics! Missed a lot of great photos from everyone last week. Trying to do a bit of catching up but it is impossible - so many wonderful pics from everyone. This was a flower that was on the beach in the grass. Eleanor

Anita - what an awesome dragonfly photo!

Sandy - love your rose!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Hi Anita - Good to see you're still alive. Nice flower pics and Dragonfly.

Sandy that rose is a nice color.

Pirl - Did you ever get your Extase then? **slow one down the middle**

Not often that I admire the perfect form of a flower, but this one is A+ right now.

Very beautiful, Al! That perfect flower is, uhhhhh, perfect!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Love the non-Dahlias Al.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Thanks - I guess.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You're welcome, I think.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Al, Bluebird is beautiful and I like the Linum ...is it an annual or perennial? I'm not familar with it but am very interested now!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

We'll see. My other flax is supposed to be a reseeding annual, but I know the plants have overwintered.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

That's the one I was admiring most too, Al, your flax. Is that supposed to be scarlet?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Not a bloom but this guy was visiting the garden yesterday.

Al all breathtaking shots..... and victor I love the pray mantis... don't see them like we used to as kids but when I do see them they take me right back to childhood ... can't take my eyes off them

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Me too Allison. I love them. I had a DG member make me one out of copper. I still have not mounted it yet. I'll try to post a photo of it. She also made a Dragonfly for me.

Assonet, MA(Zone 6b)

Victor I've seen yours on another thread. They are wonderfull! You have such good taste. I have a cooper Moon and a cooper Sun on the back of my garage. The sculptures alone bring such pleasure, and I love the way they change sheen and tone as the rising Sun and Moonlight drift over them. Yours are unique and outstanding.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Beautiful pics everyone. Love the praying mantis - I have not seen one in a long time!! Here is another beach flower - don't know what it is but they were all over the sandy areas of Martha's Vineyard. Eleanor

Thanks everyone.
Al, it's good to be alive!
Nice Mantis, Victor. I had one last year. It was the first and last one I've seen for many years. Are there that few of them or are they just good at hiding?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Pirl, Thank you! That is it! I ordered one. A commanding plant.

Anita, Very nice! What is on the lower, left of your montage/collage?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Being good at hiding is what mantis pray for.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

That's a gazania Dave. They wintersow very well.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thank you Daisey. I seem to spot at least one Mantis per year here. I've read that they are particularly sensitive to pesticides so maybe that's the reason. My nearest neighbors are like me and don't use any.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Every lunatic on my street EXCEPT me uses pesticides to keep their perfect lawn. I blame the runoff for any gardening failures. (Handy excuse.)

Not even sure if I've ever seen a praying mantis in the wild.... museums, sure.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Anita:

Gazanias will wintersow? That's GREAT news to me!!! Will they self-seed as well? I haven't collected any seeds from them, but I have let a lot go to seed.
