The 'Becky Towe' and 'Natural Feelings' are still blooming!! Here they are with a rather nice snapdragon, which still has lots and lots of buds!!

And, our most well-behaved Primrose which has done well this year, even if it didn't get very tall.

Unknown weed. Anybody know what it is? It's about 4 1/2 ft tall and wide.

Edited to change the size.

Well I did plant a Dahlia after all! A HD special. I'll ask Al for the ID when it blooms. Why does it take so long to bloom, Al? It's in full sun.

Someone requested a full plant photo of my Heptacodium. Here it is with its red calyxes still showing. Overcast day doesn't help though.

Nice photos, everyone!

Our rudbeckias are the stars of the garden right now.

My BESV just started producing more than one bloom at a time. This time last year, it had plans to take over the garage.

Nice bebop - mne are mostly done now.

Victor - the lilac looks good. I didn't see any lilacs or magnolias blooming at the end of summer like usual. I think your dahlia is eeling the bad karma. Most of the store bought ones I buy flower early since they are already growing in the bag.

Looks nice Jan. you must have escaped your frost then?

Hey I did a backlight dahlia pic that worked out. Mel's Yellow Delight

Nice shots, Al. Noticed you color your signature to match the photos - you're feminine side is so strong.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

My guy card has been compromised that's for sure. I have seen people copy it though - no copyright on it.
Hate to say I even went into Hobby Lobby today.

Picking up materials for your next scrapbooking project?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

More needle arts - crotcheting a Harley tatoo.

Bought some sheet metal to engrave tuber toe tags with.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Would love you to crochet me a skull and crossbones.

With many having trouble with Dahlias, toe tags are appropriate.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

you're all too funny
and enjoying all the pics, didn't know there were fall lilacs
here's a nasturtium close up - makes me think of a chicken

Nice shot Deb. Reminds me of a costume. I didn't know Lilacs bloomed now either.

The 2 plants I mentioned before I see blooming in the late summer because the dry summer conditions trick them into thinking it's spring is what I've heard once it rains again.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

wow you guys were busy today.... this calls for a ... great photos everyone comment

:)

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Boys, boys, boys! Al, "the dry summer conditions trick them into thinking it's spring is what I've heard once it rains again". Wanna try that again? I'm not following you. In fact, I'm not following you anywhere! No matter how hard you blow.

Great pictures all.
Anita, Thanks for the answer.
Victor, Nice weed!
Al & Victor, that was witty repartee!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks - I thought repartee meant to partee again.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Is there a party tonight??

Van Etten, NY(Zone 5a)

Here are Stargazer Dahlias I picked today.

Very pretty bebop.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Nice bebop, those seed dahlias really perform.

Carrie - I didn't make that up I'm tellng you.

I love looking through everyone's pictures---they're great.

The pic of the dragon fly was awesome.

The Sunsprite rose is a pretty bright yellow--I've ordered one from Palatine for next spring. Does it have a nice scent?

Thanks for posting the picture of your Heptacodium, Victor. It's absolutely beautiful. Now I know what I have to look forward to.

Bebop:
It's nice to have you here. Welcome! Love the photos you shared.

Concerning lilacs ... there are some that are rebloomers. We planted a 'Josee' lilac. It states on the tag that it will rebloom in the late summer, early fall. So, if one does, more should ... right?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Looked up the Fairweather description of 'Lilac Sunday'. It's a Chinese Lilac. Didn't say anything about re-bloom but it is unique in that it does not only bloom at branch tips like most, but also at lateral buds along the branches.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Al and Victor, I just literally didn't understand Al's comment. You mean, you've heard that because of the dry dry summer, the lilacs go dormant and when then it rains, think it must be spring and start blooming? As usual, once I write it down, I understand it better.

I bought a pretty lilac a few years ago, marked it with a BIG METAL SIGN so DH wouldn't mow over it. He moved the sign to mow around it, and of course, mowed over it. !!!! i finally bought a replacement this spring, potted it in a big plastic pot so it would grow big and strong in a safe place. Now I'm just waiting for DH to put it in the ground. This time I bought one of those plastic rings to put around it.

Victor, re: chemicals in lawn. Do you think it's ok to use chemically treated grass clippings (from other people's lawns) in our compost?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Carrie, I'll leave it to Al to 'splain himself. I have enough trouble understanding myself. I would not use chemically treated clippings. The chemicals do fizzle out over time but I'd rather stick with 'clean' grass.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

ooops - too late. Yeah, sometimes I have trouble understanding you! BTW, I only use this compost to grow flowers, nothing edible (yet).

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I certainly would not use it for edibles, so make sure you use all that up before starting a new pile for any edibles.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Yessir.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Carrie - Most people don't use clippings that are treated, the fertilizer part of it is fine - the herbicides do break down pretty fast, but it is possible to have some activity from them for a while afterward. Hard to imagine wet grass clippings as great compost - are they?

somebody took all the clippings off this grass :)

Thumbnail by bigcityal
Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I know, I always think about the pile of them someone dumps somewhere and they look the same 4 months later. I mulch my grass so I don't have any clippings.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Mulch mine too.
