What's Blooming? #14

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

i have a question for you knowledgeable types:
earlier in this thread, pirl told Victor:

Quoting:
just take the proliferation off, cut about two inches below where it appears on the scape, then stick it in the soil a few inches from the mother plant. It should grow. We do that with all of ours, roots or not (mostly not).

i have one of these also, and i am not sure i understand the directions. i've never seen this before, and didn't know such a thing existed.
is it the dead stick (scape?) i am supposed to cut? 2 inches below the new leaf fan? and then stick the stick in the ground? should the fan then be level with the ground (with the 2" of scape to hold it in)?
and why a few inches from the mother plant?

anyone feel free to answer - probably i should ask on the beginner forum - but people here are so helpful...

thanks...

Amy yes to this........
"is it the dead stick (scape?) i am supposed to cut? 2 inches below the new leaf fan? and then stick the stick in the ground? should the fan then be level with the ground (with the 2" of scape to hold it in)?"
Why next to the mother plant I don't know. Pirl could answer that for you.

Wonderful photos, everyone.

Found a new little creeping sedum today, 'Ogon', but the shop didn't have individual plants. I was with Alicemv and she is ultra knowledgeable and knows all the nursery people so she said in a good voice, teasing the woman, "I bet you'd never notice if Arlene took a piece of it" and the lady told me to help myself! So nice. Here it is.

Another pretty hydrangea Al. I have pics of turquoise, green, orange, yellow, red, black and brown dragonflies. I have a pic of one that is partly pink. So here it is just for you Al.

Arlene that's a cute! The lady couldn't have shared it a sweeter person either. I truly believe what comes around goes around. You are so generous with others and she must have sensed that about you :)

Sorry for the delay but I was downloading photos.

Why near the mother plant? You certainly can plant it wherever you want but near the mother plant is what I do so I'm not relying on that plant (say, purple) to break up the space between a pink and a yellow. If it does well you can move it later next spring.

You want to scratch up the soil a bit, to the depth the proliferation will go and maybe an inch more, then settle the proliferation so the bottom is in the soft earth. Water well.

The scape (stem to many) where the proliferation is growing is not dead though it appears that way. Through that scape the proliferation is getting water and nutrients.
Ugly? Yes. Dead? No.

Thanks, Kim. She is a very nice person and so are all the workers there. It's a pleasure to buy from them: Porter's Colorful Gardens, Jamesport, NY.

Very nice of them to let you adopt that cute little sedum pirl, also love the pot you put it in. :)

Very nice Pirl - almost resembles Jade.

Thanks! The one on display was in a hanging basket and the sedum undulated across the top and had just begun to ............. floop.

The dragonflies were neat. I have two but need to find the photos.

Jan - I've never collected seeds before. When and how do I do that for the BESV? Is there anything special that I have to do to the seeds when I plant them or before I plant them? Eleanor

That's the Gaillardia I got. I like it - still in bloom. I'll get more. You like Diablo? Seems to floopy to me.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I had mine first ;)~

Diablo does droop for sure, it requires pruning a couple times a year to keep it's shape.
