What's Blooming? #14

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Less and less to look at in the garden, but some annuals bloom longer the perennials. These guys never fail to amuse me with the different colors and patterns.

I gave up on those, yours look nice Pix.

Here is a full shot of late seeded zinnias - Yellow and Purple mix. How DID they come up with that name?

This one's a bright little spot even on a dreary day.

I am giving the thumbs up to the midJuly seedings for fall annuals.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Al, were the Bachelor Buttons from a mix as well?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Yes, they are called Tall Doubles frm Burpee. I have a blue one below.
I seeded some Tri Color Daisies - some sort of chrysanthumums(sp) that I assume will flower yet.

i am so jealous of your gazanias!
(that is what they are, right?)
i planted a packet of mixed seed (& probably pulled 1/2 my seedlings cause i thought they were weeds!) i finally got 3 plants in one area & 4 in another. The 3 gre fast and big, and finally budded, when
something came along and ate them down to the ground.
(prob woodchucks, but there is a strong minority opinion for destruction by yahoos brought in to do maintanence work by the landlord)
i put up a little fence, moved some marigolds to behing the gazanias, and stuck a pinwheel in right by them.
2 came back fast, one didn't make it.
i got another bud, and the next day
that plant was destroyed.
DH made a cage out of chicken wire - really - with hooks to hold it in the ground. Since then i have had a total of about 6 blooms, which were pretty, but hardly worth all that. And they were all yellow.
i really hoped for an assortment.
o yeah - the area with the 4. one finally bloomed last week.
and it is yellow too.

sigh.

I prefer the shorter ones. The ones I got from Graceful Gardens (plants, not seeds) were too tall. They flooped.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I had a water hyacinth bloom today! First time in a couple of years. I may even add a photo.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

love the zinnias Al

(Zone 4a)

Such beautiful flowers! I love them all!!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh yeah.... I am going to have to go out and take a shot of my confused Iris.... it's blooming now... might be one of the "re-bloomers"

:)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Congrats Dave. Yes - a photo on this thread is usually encouraged! I never had any blooms on mine.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

A picture, huh? I was going to describe it. It's pink, ruffled...

Smokes a big blacka cigar?? (Another one for the scat thread - no on will know what we're talking about!)

Dave - do you even own a camera?? Beautiful pics everyone! Eleanor

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Dave is just pacing himself LOL

Al, the zinnias are really pretty, but I agree the name could be a little more original. this is nemesia 'Red and White' ... a dull name for such a pretty little plant. I probably won't grow it again...too small to bother for an annual unless I put it in a pot.

edit to add: sorry for the fuzzy pic, but it's the best one I have that shows the 'red & white'

Al, I guess we will always have 'dahlia envy'. I will just be grateful for the ones I have that bloom. they have all been gorgeous, and I still have hope for some more before frost.

here is a better pic of 'Lauren Michelle'. I took the last one as the bloom faded. I thought it was still pretty.

pirl, I will have to put 'Wildwood Marie' on my list. I have fallen in love with it. Your 'Lucky Ducky' is beautiful, too

I had that this year, the "red&white" Nemesia. I had them in a window box along with the blue&white. They are VERY tiny but next year I'm planning to plant a mass pot of the two colors together next year.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

my bachelor buttons are called 'Choice Mix' and had blue, purple & pink. I'm trying to save seeds from all the colors, but I don't know if that works.

kim, I never saw the blue&white. do you have a pic?

if you guys want color in the fall, you should consider roses. they love early fall weather.

here's 'Shocking Blue' (don't know who named it, but it's pretty anyway)

'Hot Cocoa'

edit to add: I cut this bud for my DDIL for her 40th b'day

All the photos posted this weekend are just beautiful!!

Thank you all for sharing. It really lifts my spirits to not only see such great blooms from everyone, but also to hear that so many of us actually got some RAIN!!!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Amy - I like your little bloom peeking through the chicken wire!! :) And Jan, all of your shots were just gorgeous. Your roses are wonderful! Do you have problems with the J. Beetles? I can't seem to keep them away from my roses.

Candyce - still raining here........

I agree all great pics and beautiful flowers. Partial to the roses and BB.

What is all this talk of rain? Where is the rain? Is there a giant umbrella over my town or what? Anyone else still dry and dusty?
