Window boxes still holding up.
What's Blooming? #14
Excellent coleus, Victor. That's a nice blend of colors.
Thank you Candyce.
Today was Coleus cutting day.
I want to try coleus in a whiskey barrel out front next year. I like that combo, so I'll refer your your photo in this thread when I go a-lookin'.
If I had any this year, I'd be cutting them today, too!!
Al, that first Dalia shot is spectacular! The dragonfly shots are incredible! Nice and crisp! Celeste, I have some Stella D'Oros blooming still, but no others. Yours are beautiful. Nice window box Victor. Great color choices.
I think I still have a few DL's hanging on. Maybe Final Touch?
Pixie comes through again with some great pics. Can't believe you still have lilies, that is so great. I like the scabiosa too. Mine pooped out but it was new this year, I hope it returns in the spring.
Al I'm glad you liked the pink dragonfly. Good shot of that one you have there. They are all so different and delicate. I like the Oranges and Lemons too, is it hardy for you?
Kim I don't know what your little blue flower is either but you are right its very cute.
Victor your coleus is looking good!
Here's another one for you Al.
Al, do you use manual or auto focus for those shots?
Nice shot ngam. I use auto for my close-up bug shots. On Macro of course.
Great shot, ngam! Love those wings.
Oh he's a neat looking one Victor, good shot.
Thanks. The variety of patterns on them is amazing. They have a very short lifespan.
Yeah, great looking one Vic. How long is their lifespan? Is each different like a fingerprint or are there just several different species?
The adult stage is less than a month I believe. Longer as pupae. Don't know about the different species vs. markings question.
I took a photo of a two headed butterfly in Arizona.
Can you post it?
Hee hee. How was the chrysalis??
It was good for me.
What happens in Arizona...
You bet!
OMG - I can't follow that
Harper - My camera only has autofocus. I don't post(many) of the ones that don't come out - they get deleted(eventually)
All the dragonfly shots are wonderful! the only one that stood still for me all summer wouldn't open his wings ... a pic of a black stick! But I did see an interesting cat yesterday. I posted it in bug ID and the butterfly forum because I can't find it in my caterpillar book. At least I don't think I can. If you want to take a look...

Al, I think I mixed up the tags on the dahlias... is this one Seattle?
My Seattle hasn't bloomed yet - that bed has underachieved. It looks like Seattle - lot of orange in it though.
Good thing I keep my trade bible by the desk - yes it is, I really like that one.
Celeste, lilies?? wow, what kind are they? I have a couple of daylilies still hanging on.
(edit to add: it wasn't the whole 70' of garden that I only bought one plant for, just the ones in that pic. but I actually only bought a few shrubs (2 viburnum, a ninebark, a flowering quince, one rose), a couple of herbs and an obedient plant. I planted probably 200 seedlings, mostly perennials, that I grew from seed, plus most of the dahlias Al shared with me are in that bed.
this celosia has been a great performer....Sparkler from Park's

Jeannie Leroux was very slow for me - I didn't keep any - great flower when it comes though. My species is poking also along with Blue Apache. LeBaron is cursed for me as it got mites again this year. AA pink has had a lot of flowers - it's one I like to give to nongardeners for the wow effect.
wow wow wow.... wonderful shots everyone.... love that celosia too
