I think it's a dog. Some WebKinz photos on my computer for some reason - other than my 3 kids playing them all the time.
What's Blooming? #14
Is a real greenhouse in your plans for your "golden years"?
Congrats on the greenhouse Al. Funny how it's a bright sunny day out but there are no shadows! What's the skunk's name?
Welcome Teresa. All are welcome here. If we can take Al....There are two current threads you might want to check. The Fall Color one I started and the Fall Gardens one by Seandor. Being from the great state of KY, I cannot believe DG's Viburnum Master, ViburnumValley, hasn't hooked you on them yet! They're great for color and fruit and he is THE MAN when it comes to them. Good luck and drop in anytime!
Victor
FINALLY.... I harvested all of my Platycodon (Balloon Flowers) the past couple of days. Alot of them weren't ready but I got SO tired of having all these bubble envelopes ready just waiting for them that I decided to settle for the ones that were ripe. Many of them had rotted for some reason but I had plenty to share.
This morning the following envelopes are going out. If you don't see your name, there will be another list tomorrow.
Anita R.
Michaela S.
Sandra M.
Arlene S.
Karen Q.
Melisa M.
The following is a list of people that will be mailed tomorrow:
Robbi H.
Nancy B.
Mike B.
Celeste P.
Victor C.
Karyn K.
Ella H.
Arlene R.
Kassia
If you don't see your name and you requested seeds earlier this season, please let me know. I tried to keep as accurate records as possible.
Should there be any seeds left, I will post here and then the remainder will be going to Robbi's Newbies :)
Feels good to unload these envelopes :)
Have a great day all!
Kim
*edited to add Kassia, sorry I forgot you Kass*

Kim you sweetheart you!! Thank you for thinking of us and I have something for you I think you were looking for. Dmail me!!
Teresa - I don't have any suggestions for you (I never do for anyone really) but I'd like to welcome you to the forum. You can come and visit anytime. Would you like to buy a tee-shirt - just kidding. You don't have to buy anything to visit or you can even stay and become a regular. Eleanor
Just thought of something: It's probably not a very good suggestion and I don't even know if it would grow in the south but Quick Fire paniculata hydrangea's blooms change from light pink to a darker color in the fall. I just planted mine this year so I'm just learning about it. Some of the blooms already look darker in the pic.
Thanks, Kim. It's always nice to get a package in the mail.
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Teresa
It's my pleasure :)
I owe SO much to the generous people on here (and you know who you are) that have graciously shared a part of their garden with me. I wouldn't have 1/2 the garden I do if it wasn't for this family :)
For those receiving Platycodon seeds, the best germination occurs when the soil is a consistent 70 degrees and they need light to germinate. I usually start my seeds late spring/early summer (in Maine, so much earlier for most of you). If you are receiving a Dwarf, they look best in clumps in the front of the border and the taller varieties look best in clumps in the mid to back section of the bed but they all enjoy sun/light :)
I hope they do well for all of you and that you enjoy them as much as I do.
Next year I will be able to offer the striped version and I'm quite excited about that and HOPEFULLY next year I will also be able to offer the double lavender. I have 5 seedlings that look great and should withstand the winter :)
I'm starting all kinds of new things this winter via winter sowing, inside sowing and spring sowing so I should have much more to share next year.
Thank you again to each and every person that has shared a "piece of themselves" with me. Each and every seed/plant is very special to me and will always be cherished.
Thanks Kim!!
pirl...not sure the average first frost date. I thought the first week in October but maybe it's later, perhaps closer to yours in Nov. By inner tube we're 20 miles away from each other. Long Island Sound moderates the climate ten miles inland and we're only a mile from the beach.
Have you made the trip by inner tube, David?
True, David, and the ocean sends colder winds to the "other" fork so we have milder temperatures and a longer growing season.

victor....when I was 5 I thought I was headed to Europe in a dingy . Have a vivid image of my ( older) cousins standing on the beach in Madison laughing at me out there without oars (how that happened I don't recall). I was probably close to the dock but when you're a few feet tall, things look a lot futher away.
Anyways...Someone saved me from being lost at sea and here I am.
Cute! So glad you were rescued!
Here is a freeze frost date chart for Ma if anyone is interested. I usually use Oct 15 as an average here.

Al, love the wide shot and all the other pretties from eveyone. Glad to hear about the rescue at sea that we all have benefited from happening. :)
Al....are you here? Do you think you could help me?
I have seeds for a Coneflower called "Razzle Dazzle". I have searched high and low for a picture of this and can't seem to find one anywhere. Does it by chance go by another name?
Any assistance you could provide to lead me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated :)
Hi Teresa!! Welcome!
ngam, do you have rain yet? It hasn't stopped all day here.
Al, I'm jealous of your greenhouse. It would be perfect for my 164 orchids! Isn't that Rocky Raccoon pretending to be a pirate or a skunk or dog so he can pull up the roots, wash them in the sink and eat them??? "Bevare, bevare!" as Bela would say.....
Teresa!!
I am so glad you stopped by. I hope you will settle in and become a part of our 'family'. I welcome you with open arms.
KimsKreations...No photo but a " new double ruffled pink Razzle Dazzle" coneflower is mentioned here:
http://www.emmitsburg.net/gardens/articles/frederick/2005/late_season_color.htm
So it does exist
Kim, I know of Razzmatazz. Razzle Dazzle is a new series of Crape Myrtles. Can it be Razzmatazz?
I don't know, the label on them clearly (they are laser printed labels) says Razzle Dazzle.
David Paul, thank you so much for the link! I can't wait to try these. Although they may not come true from seed I will try.
It's funny, I was going to re-use an envie today and I found 3 packages of seeds in it. 3 different Coneflower seeds. I'm sure I must have sent a thank you but never took the seeds out of the envelope so when I found them today it really surprised me.
Here is the description from David's link:
Can you have a perennial garden without coneflowers? Yes, but I wouldn't recommend it. Echinacea comes in so many wonderful colors and forms and blooms from June to frost. Try a soft pink, hot pink, orange or white variety or new double ruffled pink "Razzle Dazzle." Then leave the stems and cones standing at the end of the season to feed the birds and add striking winter interest.
I have them in the fridge chillin' now :)
Grammy,
You had asked for a picture of the blue/white Nemesia. Sorry it has taken me so long but hubby has been "playing" around with the 2 computers in the livingroom so I had to wait until I logged on in the bedroom where I store my pictures as I couldn't find the "shared" folders .... anyways, here is a picture of it :)
VERY Pretty Celeste :)
I'm awaiting blooms on my aster and other than that....not much happening here....just single blooms of this and that :(
I too am waiting for the aster's and mums, those DL were just planted this spring and had already bloomed at the sellers place in the south. I was Very pleased to see them bloom here. Now if they can just survive our crazy N.E. winter! Some of the other DL's are rebloomers and are doing a good job to living up to their name.
Oh thanks for thinking of me Boo. Yes, just like winning the lottery isn't it. Two, count 'em two whole inches of rain. Lovely stuff.
Great pics Onewish and Pixie, luv the group of sedum and the MGs and coneflower. Just very happy finally a bit of rain.
Great shots Allison and Celeste! Except the MG fence, of course!! Painful to look at.
