Louise:
Don't know exactly which creatures might be out this early, but I'm sure that SOMETHING is still willing to 'play'!!
Nice and dark still at 5 AM with temps holding at 54 degrees. Gonna be another nice garden day!
Today's Weather in Your Garden 2
Venu209 - thanks - was there a prize for Al? Does anyone know?
Meanwhile, I was in the garden most of the day - Here is my question for all of you: How do you stand it? I mean, I am ripping out untidy annuals, moving perennials, sorting seeds, etc. How am I to wait for spring?????
There are dahlias yet to be presented in catalogs, same for roses, annuals we haven't yet seen that will be online, experiences with plants we can tell each other about, ideas for paths that we hadn't thought about, garden art that we can enjoy (or not), the seashore for looking for driftwood, and then the good old "to do" list for spring.
I think I need a greenhouse . . . .I think I need a larger yard . . . oh, wait, that's what the terrace is for! Sigh , , , I think I need a greenhouse.
How many North-Easters have greenhouses?
hummmm . . . . some of the neighbours have sun rooms - I wonder if they would let me use those . . . . .

Our porch/sun room/verandah gets so overloaded with plants in winter that we can sit but there's no place left to put a cup of coffee. I eliminated all the plumerias and brugs this past spring and hopefully can eliminate more plants but then I did buy a few that have to come in for winter.
Pirl, I put my coffee on the floor when that happens.
Seandor, one day I'll get a greenhouse. One day....
You eliminated your brugs, pirl????? Man, I just got my first ones this summer. I LOVE them - especially the fragrant white one.
This year I will bring in the brugs (have four now!), the lantana, the gardenia, the begonia.
Okay - where is the "Let's Do It" thread? How can I read Al's 4 mil posting if I can't find it?

cooler this morning 48...they're predicting a low of 50 (can't always be right! LOL). the day will be 'sunny and delightful' with a high of 75. sounds good to me. a very nice September Sunday. autumn has always been my favorite time of year. we were married in September. I originally had planned on October. DH wanted to move it up. He said spring...I compromised on Sept LOL
Happy Anniversary!
My parents were married on this day in 1923. Now when I speak of them being born in the 1890's it sounds like a history lesson!
Allow me to add my anniversary best wishes, also, to you and your HBL(hunka burnin' love), Jan!
Today's weather? It is currently at 48 degrees. When I got up an hour and a half ago it was 53 degrees. Go figure!!
Don't you love this time of the year?? I love cooler evenings and mornings with comfortable days.
Cooler, yes, but not quite this cool. I am in the '65 degrees is cool enough' club.
For hard work I prefer under 60, even under 50.
I'm with you Pirl. For heavy work, under 65. Happy Anniversary Jan. Pirl, my grandparents were born on this day in 1923!
Amazing coincidence!
Sorry - meant to say married!
I figured that out since I know your father's age.
Another beauty here today. Clear blue skies all day. Got around 80. Low humidity. Slight breeze. Wish we had this yesterday at our family picnic. We were soaked. Too pooped to do anything but hang today. Hopefully will get a lot done in the garden tomorrow. Forecast looks great (though dry) the next few days. Enjoy!
What a fantastic day we had for the block party and as the real PIRL would have said: A good time was had by all.
Good for you guys! Perfect day.
Woke up to temps in the high 30s. Right now, we have 49 degrees and brilliant sunshine. There's a breeze that gets strong enough at times to blow the leaves off the trees. *sigh* I guess autumn is really here.
But the next two days the temps should be warmer. I like that.
sigh . . . all you lucky gardeners. . . . a perfect day and I am stuck inside. Tomorrow too - 4 lectures - rats! I wannna play in the dirt!
Absolutely heavenly! I could take this 335 days a year.
A bit too warm. Hit 82 here and when you're working in the sun, that's hot! For everything else it's not too bad.
80 here in South China, but 84 in Augusta our capitol. Tomorrow is going to be even hotter. Heading for Acadia on Wed., first time this year wich is very unusual for me!
Oh lucky you! I loved that place when we visited in '95. I look forward to going back. Are the colors changing yet there? With the high temps maybe you'll go for an ocean dip! Enjoy and take some pics!!
Heck NO! No Ocean DIP....it needs to be 90 or better for me to "dip" in the ocean. How warm do you think it is here? Or should I ask how warm the water gets there in New York? Cause it's cold, cold, cold anytime of the year. It should not hurt to get in the water!!
Ok, yes the colors are changing.....it's beautiful. Now that I have all these daylilies sent out I will take some pictures. I plan on bringing the camera with me to Acadia, Mallory has never been and leaves for college Oct. 3rd. She's going to F.I.D.M. in Los Angeles, California and is scared but excited at the same time.
Wish her good luck. Why such a late start? What is FIDM?
The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising ,,,,,thats when they start! Weird huh? http://www.fidm.com/
I believe they worked on the costumes for 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and other big titles like that.
That's cool. Big change of scenery for her! Best of luck.
60 degrees at 9:23 p.m......it was magnificent today in every way! My friend and I walked into my outtacontrol garden and both of us bent down and paid homage at the same moment to the gallant soldiers saluting us. Those bad boys are GONE from one whole section of the garden now!!.......at least for the next couple of days. I think it was very smart of me to invite a compulsive weeder to visit for the weekend.....don't you???
Excellent move. Invite them back for repeat performances on weeding.....and ziti.
Thanks! You gotta love New Yorkers.......they've got it all!! Yeah, I'm suckin' up to Pirl and Victor.......can you tell???
Too bad you don't have a lasagna garden.
Can't compost the chicken salad but you could compost the ziti if it has no meat in it.
It has meat and 4 cheeses.........heart unsmart......!
Served with a Lipitor chaser, I hope.
Yup. We're a full service eatery! Tums for dessert!
Good morning. It's 49 degrees and suppossed to push 90 today. It's so lovely outside, I rarely come into the house lately. I even took an afternoon nap in the hammock. My "ironworks" project is going great guns, finished another table and a footstool, and starting on a chair. They are sooo ornate and rusty that they take a lot of time. The weather has to be right also, not too humid or windy and above 55 degrees. Late yesterday some phlox and asters were delivered, made them comfy and they will take top priority today. The weather in NE, this entire year, has been outstanding hasn"t it? Have a great day.
Pixie I was just reading back and laughing at your comments on Maine water temps. Many years ago, I was with a friend at Deer Island, Me. It was a searing July day. I put on a jacket and went up to my knees in the ocean. A seal popped up to look at me, only about 4 feet away. As soon as the seal departed, I got my blue legged self back to the shore and haven't gone in the Maine oceans above my toes since. DB now that's what I call picking your friends. ;)
