Pacifica, CA

morning all,

laura, oh to think you must of had this for a while oh im so glad they gave you medication i could tell by your post how good you are feeling, boy you are getting some good deals at home depot, i cant wait to see how big leopold is getting.( dogs ya just got to love them)lol

betty, i found that interesting oct 8th is your thanksgiving tell me more why so early? well i better go finish unloading bins everyone have a fun day liz

Victoria Harbour, ON

It is early LIz, but like it a lot better, not so close to Christmas!

Cut the grass then sat for 1/2 hr. and watch Joel Olsteen Ministries..well I guess the Lord in his wisdom made the ceremony for me...so, when I speak with Jeff, I'll just ask him for Lisa's proper address and tell him I was disappointed in not making it to the wake and will send her flowers...no argument but I'll get my point across..Joel says that the sooner we let these things go by the wayside the better we feel, because if we just focus on them, get into arguments because of them, bad feeling just stay within for quite some time...so, it's behind me and I'll do something nice for Lisa...she's aware we didn't know and will be appreciative of the flowers....

Have vaccumed throughout the house, dusted, nice enough to open windows, am going to parcel up the next 4 boxes of 2 ornaments each so I can post tomorrow, then getting paints together to complete 2 victorian santa's..my goal for the day...lol...

You are just so ahead of the game Liz...I'm waiting for the trees to start turning in the next few weeks and then will make arrangements for all the ground and hanging planters..and put some of the decorations out...think in the pattern packets I ordered last week, one packet had a halloween piece..

Was telling Anne yesterday that I was thinking of looking at the calendar and if mid Nov. if not too tired from workshops and painting classes I might have a Christmas sale in the house and a few girlfriends could put their stuff in as well..just might be fun...

Next to the garbage bin next door, someone unloaded a lot of wood, that's a 'no-no' but no one has seen them..a few years ago I taught a workshop that we did large candles...1 -3 1/2nd one 3 and 3rd one 2 1/2'...painted the 3 in color of choice..mine were maroon I think..then I cut out and chopped the edges to make a big flame..then using a dowel inserted it into the candle base to look like a wick..then with wire I place the candles together with wire and brad nail (staple type) the wire to the wood...this stabilizes them...then I purchase about 5 or 6 yds of beautiful christmas ribbon -tie it around the candles which now hides the wire...make a large bow with the pieces hanging attached to the candle by hot glue/give a slight push up to hold their design, attach poinsettias' and there you go...then I had purchased gold glitter glue sticks and would hold it over each candle and continue pressing trigger until glue covered the top and would drip to make it look like candle burning wax...would also add a lot of sprinkles to the ribbon and greenery...it look lovely...can't find my ribbon or I'd be making one today..will make one next weekend though and will post it..easy thing for you to make...because...purchasing a large piece of 4x4 you can have it cut at the lumber yard and work is half done....could change the height somewhat so that you would only use a 4x4 - 8' piece...or you could do it with 3x3's...same day had the girls get 1x1 and we did mini candles...thing it was 14"/10"/8" and did same process..they made very cheap gifts..under $5.00 and were just adorable..great bazaar items...

I'm rambling so off I go..know you enjoy your crafts Liz as do some of you other ladies so get at it..Christmas is coming..lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura, looking forward to seeing photo's of your projects and Leopold as well...can hear you are feeling better just by your posts...don't rush things though..does take some time work...

Pacifica, CA

betty,

on martha stewarts site you can download the pattern for the sillouet patterns of the witch and three cats their life size made with plywood painted black we made it last year its pretty cool draws alot of attention with the orange and red spot lights behind it i might have time today to drag it out cant wait till you post that project you mentioned.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks, will have to check out the site...when I get my patterns, hopefully next week I can trace one out for you..think it's a fall one and a halloween one...bet you are still dragging out those boxes..lol...

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

That is a good idea B, I know sometimes we have to walk a mile in someone's shoes to know why they do or don't do or can not do something, anyway, so I hate to judge. It is something we all have experienced at one time or another and it isn't fare to us or for us to do to someone.

Our weather here is finally fallish for the last few days and with hope in the forcast of Summer heat behind us for good. I love fall and in this area, I don't know about where Liz lives, it goes from summer to winter and winter to summer more often than not, so I`ll take a fall for a couple of months please Lord.

Laura I didn't know you have Home Depot there. Kidney infections can scar your kidney so Thank God they found the problem.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

yep, they call it bunnings which is weird but its the same company... i love it!
yes the kidney infections are no fun but on the mend now so its good.

its 7am and im up getting ready for work.... so thats the worst for today! lol

best is yet to come....

have a great day
x

Quick post here, folks

Friday evening I found a snake in my garden

Saturday morning I woke up with a tick embedded on my rump

And had the durn in-laws here all weekend

Having some trouble with pests...lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Trop..didn't you have them visiting not that long ago..lol..you watch those ticks..boy, Greg was extremely ill and had to take medication for some time because of ticks...as for the snake omg..ever since someone mentioned they like living in rocks and here I have rocks/rocks surrounding my pond, I'm nervous when cleaning weeds...

Liz, absolutely the cutest..am sure you are winning the 'Halloween' decorating contest...lol/lol keep showing us your treasures...making me envious...

Laura, you have a great day at work, show them your smile!!!
As for the kidney infections, you've come to the right place to get sympathy...because of infections and valves not working well, I spent within 2 or 3 years..a total of 1 year in hospital, then when I got pregnant another few months until they took the child as I wouldn't have survived, then when pregnant for Greg, spent 6 months in hospital, had Jeff no problem, then again got pregnant and the took the child, made sure I'd never get pregnant again...years later had operation replacing valve..I have 1/4 of one kidney and 1/8th of the other...said that the kidneys were like old boxing gloves, terribly scarred...imagine, my doctor specialist was called "Dr. Doctor".. I lead a normal life but have to be cautious of infections...when I get the ache on my lower back, tired/tired, having the chills then it's time for the doctor...Dr. I've been lucky though these past years....so, take it from someone who knows..the minute you feel unwell, make that Dr. appt.

I'm off to bed, been laying down, taken medication for headache, was almost tempted to hit emerg..still have it but not feeling it as bad so will make this post a quick one...

Best...got the next 4 pkgs.of christmas decorations ready to send out..
Worse..headache
What did I learn...when I get rilled up over something, best go to Joel Olsteen website and listen to one of his sermons..sure calmed me down..no use starting a family fight...

Do have a nice evening...

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Love that witch shaddow , funny!
Betty sorry you don't feel well, stay in Bed and I don't want to see you playing on the threads tonight young lady.

Best today, hmmmm? I see my lasagna is starting to decompose finally so I think in early fall or late winter I will get to plant in it this year.

Worst, I have been constipated for over a month now and feel sooo Horrible. I have IBS w/ constipation and nothing including prescriptions works all the time and I am in one of those stages where nothing that usually works is working. That is the yuckiest feeling in the world.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have rarely ever opened a chat forum and i can't help but laugh at what i am reading.........certainly hope you feel better hellnzn11............................I am sorry to be laughing so hard at your expense..........just too funny for Dave's garden site.............have fun!

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Hey this is the best /worst thread and I am among friends, aren't I? I hope you are not offended, it is truly the worst thing for me and has been for a long time now. I just decided to mention it because I feel so bad.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I don't have that problem but I know people who do..................and they say it is the worst !!!!!!!!!!!! So, please know I am just kidding you ......................

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Oh thanks I wasn't sure if you were revolted, it is a disgusting subject anyhow. NEXXXT! Moving right along, Oh how I wish that were true too. lol

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Betty, do i need to come over there and tuck you into bed for time out???? hmmm (giving you the mothers eye) slow down just a little, the world will still be there if you stop occaisonally and rest.. really! Guess what the postman bought today?????????? My xmas balls... they are amazing!! gosh, the talent.. if only i had the talent... they are beautiful and all in one piece... thankyou so much, i will treasure them always.

Ewwwwwwwwwww I hear ticks are really yucky,,,,,the thought of it makes my skin crawl...
so you had two pains in the caboose! inlaws and ticks... both make themselves comfortable where you dont want em to, both uninvited, and both pains... lol

well hope your all feeling better soon...

best today? glad to be home..
Worst? having to be at work. But i also had bad nightmares last night. it was awful as they usually are. I find sometime tho that the emotion of them can stay with me through the day. I really fought it this morning and won in the end... hate them tho.

have a great day. xx

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning everyone..I go to bed early and look at you all..gab/gab/gab..just love! Mom's birthday today..1st thing on my list..called her yesterday, said I had a gift..wanted to know what, said nope, you'll have to wait..so she said could it be something you hand over you outdoor table that holds a candle...type of chandelier...we'll she knows me well..she mentioned if I ever saw one to pick it up...right on target..exactly what I bought her...got to love it....

Laura, I'm glad they made it in one piece..the others should get theirs today then if you got yours all the way in Australia..

headache certainly not from overworking..had a restful weekend...just as I was getting into bed my girlfriend who now lives in Florida called..I had asked for prayers for this couple..apparently he's finished with his chemo and the last session was difficult for him..if you can believe it, he's planning on driving her here early Oct. - he really doesn't have the strength to go to town let alone do that, but he is insisting..strange feeling..almost like he's bringing her home! Let's hope the Dr. discourages that action....

Dawn...try coooked prunes..natural remedy..might work..anything at this point...

Gessiegail...welcome..you just never know what you will find on this thread, but one thing for sure, it's the loveliest bunch of people you'll ever meet..

Well girls, it's getting that time, not finished my post but better get my act into gear..city is a long way away..will finish my posts when I get to work...

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Morning all,
Wonder..so glad you are feeling better. Good lesson for all of us..Don't wait to long before going to the Doctor.

Liz I am amazed at all your Halloween decorations. Here we do more fall decoration than for Halloween. Corn stalks, hay bales, pumpkins pots of Mums etc. I really like your witch and cats cut outs.

Betty,..so glad you got some peace about not being informed of Lisa's sister's passing in time for the visitation.

Yesterday a friend and I went to a yard sale and I bought this cute little pot..then to a Framer's market, then looked in a new linen shop..(very expensive)..don't think they will survive in our town for long. A set of 4 napkins were $56.oo and bottle of hand soap $25.00. Whew!
Then I got domestic..LOL...I made four jars of chili sauce. ..that spurred me on to decide to make crab apple jelly..(I have never used my crab apples before) .I think I made crab apple "taffy"..only two little jars..no great loss... I guess I cooked it too long..the receipe said to boil till it sheets from the spoon..I guess I don't know what that looks like..LOL

Have agreat day everyone.
Cheers,
Carol

Morning All,

I've just gotten back from dropping our truck off at the Ford dealership to have them find out whats making the nasty noise underneath. I'm sure it's the transmission which will cost $$$! The good thing out of my visit was I walked into the service area and sitting there was a guy who was my manager back when I lived in Va Beach and worked for the cable company. I couldn't believe it! It has been about 8 yrs since I'd seen him and it's nice to know there is someone at the Ford place I know. So I caught the courtesy van back home and now need to work on my school work.

I was totally exhausted yesterday - I worked in my neighbor's yard for much of the day cleaning out her front flower beds, cutting the boxwoods, and digging up the little garden around her mailbox. She went out and bought some pretty mums and some bulbs so I put those in for her. I told her I needed to make sure her yard maintain the proper image since she is next to me!!! LOL

Still looking for a job - I've got 4 1/2 weeks left. I will still get paid after that - until early January - but I really want to stay with my company.
So we'll see. Maybe I should post on the prayer request thread.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Carol can see some fall plantings in that container..it's lovely..rained Sat. so missed out on garage sales..think they are few and far between now that the weather is turning...

Had to drive myself in because SIL not feeling well..she drove in as she has a 9:30 meeting and then she's homeward bound..Paul just came in, am nestled in a bed pillow, head back and no lights...think I might have called in sick had she not called and said she wasn't the best..oh well..save it for when I'm almost dead..lol...just kidding..brought some projects with me today but think I'll just try and relax...

Think tonight the girls that called with regards to joining in the painting class said they might drop in tonight or tomorrow night to get an idea of what I teach..should be interesting...

With rushing out this morning guess who forgot her parcels for the post office..tomorrow is another day...crab apple jelly I'm sure will taste great on toast..
On Sat. Sept. 29th. the big applefest in Meaford is on..people come from 100's of miles..I'll be there for sure..but many of the apple farms have cookeries and it's always nice to buy the homemade jellies...looking forward to it...

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi everyone, I've seen this thread pop up several times and thought it looked like a lot of fun, but I've never checked it out till today. I was right, it is a lot of fun. I hope you don't mind another post-er?

First, I've just got to say that I sympathize with helln! Been there, done that. Try warming up 8 oz. of prune juice in the microwave then add a dose of milk of magnesia to it. IF you can drink it, it'll work wonders. Got that recipe from a very compassionate nurse, lol.

Ok, now the best...I still have hair on my head, it hasn't broken off or fallen out.

The worst...my hair is pitch black and totally frizzed out (picture Gene Simmons here)...and I have fair pink-ish skin.

What did I learn?...It's best to let my hair dresser color my hair, lol. Also, that my DH and dogs still love me, even if I look like a freak of nature and might scare small children. We're calling it my "Halloween Hair." What is pictured on the box isn't always what you get.

I've also learned that I'm very thankful for hats, lol!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Will be praying for you Jeannine, not just for the new job but the van as well...let's hope it's not the entire transmission and just a little part!!! was hoping as your post started that you were going to tell me he had a job opening for you! you've still a little time..enjoy..how kind of you to do neighbors yard..is she older or ill that you've decided to help out or were you just being kind ... lol..I know it's the later..right???

Victoria Harbour, ON

Heathrjoy..welcome..we love new friends...just jump right in...
I'm laughing at the image I'm getting...make a lovely story to go with it..you are the wicked witch of the west in a musical comedy...lol...go for it!!!

I can sympathize with you..about 3 years ago my hairdresser said that she would do low lights as I don't dislike the grey..well the orange hair did one thing..kept me in the house for weeks..tried 2 hairdressers and each time my hair looked worse...by the way..just love Simmons...

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

Simmons...you watch that show too? I thought we were the only ones! What a riot it is...he's supposed to be some ultra cool rock star and he's really like the guy next door. I loved the one where they went "camping." Too funny.

Yes, I'm hiding inside. I do have to run to the grocery store today though. I've dug out my Steelers hat and matching sweatshirt...so glad football season has started or I don't know what I'd do, LOL!

Victoria Harbour, ON

good luck, maybe someone will think you are a 'star' incognito lol

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Actually Betty, my neighbor is a few years younger then me!! But, she's a single mom with two boys. She's a high school geometry teacher plus has school functions almost every night. She had just asked me to cut her bushes and said she'd pay me $25. I don't care about the money - it's a bonus. I just like doing a job for someone who doesn't have a green finger on their body and seeing their face when I show them how easy it is to do. Time consuming, but easy. I am quite sore today from all the bending and stooping!! So since my goal was to trim the bushes, I had to clear stuff to get to them and I figured just how good will the bushes look if everything else still looks like crud! So, I cut down all of her perennials - coneflowers, columbines, dasies. Thinned out her lariope; tried to get all of the Virginia Creeper out of the beds that is just growing everywhere and put down a little mulch. The bed around the mailbox had day lilies in it that I dug up completely; took all of the "dirt" out and lined the bottom with weed cloth. Then dumped 7 bags of top soil in, planted a few stray daffodils and then put the mums in and finished with mulch when she got home.

Here's the mailbox bed....

And the beds at the front of her house.....

The tree stump in the foreground was a gorgeous Bradford Pear that bit the dust during a storm we had a few weeks ago. We're going to try and get this up and then plant a river birch.

Amazed at how stupid I am...posted a lengthly post, went to look at a photo and cyberspace took over...will repost this aft...

Did want to say that Judy and Tangie are in my thoughts today..if Judy doesn't post from work I'll call her tonight..don't have Tangie's tel.#, but did send her a d-mail asking for it...worried about both of them....

As always, a few words of wisdom from Michael...

Symptoms of Inner Peace

- A tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than from fears based on past experiences.
- An unmistaken ability to enjoy each moment.
- A loss of interest in judging self.
- A loss of interest in judging others.
- A loss in interest in conflict.
- A loss of interest in interpreting the action of others.
- A loss of the ability to worry. (This symptom is very serious.)
- Frequent overwhelming episodes of appreciation.
- Contented feelings of connectedness with others and nature.
- Frequent attacks of smiling through the eyes of the Heart.
- Increasing susceptibility to love extended by others and the uncomfortable urge to extend it.
- An increasing tendency to let things happen rather than make them happen.

If you have all or most of the above symptoms, please be advised that your condition of PEACE may be so far advanced as to not be treatable.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Gardengirl, how sweet of you to help your neighbor - and it all looks wonderful! The smiling rock brought an immediate smile to MY face!!!

Betty, please please please go to the doctor about these ongoing headaches - you're having far too many.

Tropicanna, you are too funny!!

Heathrjoy, love the hair story - and welcome!!

Liz, love your Halloween decorations!!

Wonder, I am so glad your doctor found the problem - how scary! And how marvelous that you are feeling better already!

Dawn, I normally have the opposite problem you have - and think I prefer mine, although it means I can't stray far from a bathroom! My heart goes out to you - being bound up can make a person feel just horrible, downright sluggish.

Starzz, lovely container!

Hope I didn't miss anybody - I've been away from this thread for awhile and catching up is difficult!

Best yesterday: I accomplished everything I needed to do which included bringing dinners I'd prepared to my parents, picking up more dinners from my sil for my dd (who is still recovering from a c-section and having trouble cooking), and dropping off a carload of items to my granddaughter (my dd in CA ordered them and had them sent to my place as my dgd lives in a large apartment complex and no one feels comfortable having stuff sit outside all day while they're at work - dgd is expecting next month so all the stuff I delivered is baby stuff). And didn't miss the ferry coming home.

Worst: driving on the freeway in a downpour

What I learned: With a little planning, I can manage to do it all - or at least most of it!

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Betty, we cross posted - that is lovely.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Murmur..keep track of you on other threads...my goodness woman, people say I never stop..look at what you accomplish..no wonder you are tired...lol..how's that new grandaughter? need to see photo...how's the daughter feeling, any better..medication working? hope so...cooked a large turkey last week for 1..should have made meals and done some delivering as well...when do you find time to cook???

yawning away here...boss just dropped in, he's meeting this aft. outof office so I just might take a cat-nap...need one after hearing everything you've done....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Can't resist posting this...

Still know who she is

It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in
his 80's, arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he
was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.

I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would
be over an hour before

someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch
and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his
wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors,
got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.

While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife.

I inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while as she is a
victim of Alzheimer's disease. As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not
recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, "And you still go every morning,
even though she doesn't know who you are? He smiled as he patted my hand and said, "She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is.

"I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought,

"That is the kind of love I want in my life." True love is neither physical, nor romantic. True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.

Oh, by the way, peace is seeing a sunset and knowing who to thank.
The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.

I hope you share this with someone you care about. I just did.

"Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in
the rain."

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Murmur--I have to be funny, because life is worthing laughing over. :)

Did want to mention (in case a doctor forgot as they often do) that the medication your dd is on will take at the very least 2-6 weeks to really take effect and for some people a couple of months to get used to it. Lots of people give up too soon. Glad to hear from you

Betty-wow I'm doing better on that list than I thought--trying not to judge myself as much, or other people's actions (in relation to me, nowhere else)...still have troubles with trust...maybe I'll grow out of that one day---so when do I feel peaceful instead of hyper all the time? :)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good for you Trop..trying here as well to avoid ALL stress...gets easier..as soon as I get worked up I think 'do I need this, if I let it go will it harm me?' life is just tooooo well you know short...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Am listening to Joel Olsteen..always like going through it several times..if you want to get a sense of how not to let offenses get to you, give this a try...no pop ups, take my word really is worth listening to..first part is is singing and ministry..there's a tab you can move to get through it..his talking is probably 1/2 way through..try it and tell me what you think....

Happy birthday to your mom, Betty.

I never heated up prunes or prune juice and not with M O M, sounds lovely, I`ll try anything once.

Virginia Creeper is obnoxious but it has great uses if left away from everything else that it can get in trouble with. It is a great screen for chain link.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Will have to consider 'virginia creeper' for the section of chainlink..have large daisy type flowers which are in bloom now...no flowers to virginia creeper is there Dawn...

Just heard from Judy, says she and the children were awfully sore on Sat. and Sun. is now taking public transit till insurance issue looked after..was extremely busy at work today but said she'll try to post tomorrow...home computer still not working well enough to get on DG...well it's time to cook that t.v. dinner...just so exciting...should have cooked another turkey..lol
