Today's Weather in Your Garden

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Very sunny, very warm 86, very humid, very DRY! Wawaawaaaaaaa I want some rain. :(

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Same here. 77 and the sun is coming out. Weatherman was wrong once again. Will have to water tomorrow.

Cloudy no rain. Weathermen or Woman, they get paid even if they screw up.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Whether they be Weatherman or Weatherwoman, they keep promising wetter.

Wetter is used in radiators.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Finally my renovated area is getting water but it's from the irrigation system. Waiting for the predicted rain is not a chance I'll take after another long day to revamp that area.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The predicted rain has not been showing up lately.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Kassia - yes, you can move both daylilies and hosta now. Water them in very well after transplanting. Love that Hosta Plantaginea - the one I gave you. Today I could finally smell it. It's been on the quiet aroma side this year until today. That hydrangea might want partial shade - check to be sure.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

My fragrant Hostas still do not smell anywhere near like they normally do.

North Augusta, ON

Mine does!! I have Guacamole....huge flowers and smells just like Jasmine.....I keep cutting them and bringing them in....just so I can smell them all day...lol

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

I have a fragrant hosta that I put in this year but I haven't smelled it yet. Oh, that's right I was going to post about the weather. Started out sunny, then got cloudy, and then by afternoon it was sunny again and beautiful. The heat is gone from this neck of the woods along with the humidity. NO RAIN YET - so I just water, water ,water, and water some more (mostly the new grass seed that was planted where the tree cutters wrecked the neighbor's and my lawn. I should take a pic of that area - it's looking much better. Eleanor

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

oh we had some rain... not as much as I wanted... I am going to have to water tomorrow before I leave for ME!!!!

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Hot and humid today - hair super frizzy - no rain.
Getting up in the morning to water :-)

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Does anyone know the answer to this question. My home had a well originally but switched to city water about 14 or 18 years ago. I still have the pump and would like to get it going again for the outdoor watering. Who do I call? Hot and humid today and no rain.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

very pleasant breeze tonight!!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

venu, I would start with your local health dept.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Really??

North Augusta, ON

Really? I would of thunk a well digger dude...

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Beautiful morning - bright, clear, coooool (hurray!) - and no humidity (so far!)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

57 here, very sunny and no hummidity. Calling for a perfect weekend here in Maine...75 for a high and sunny.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Beautiful here: 69, sunny, light breezes.

To my way of thinking, Pixie, Maine is always perfect.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Beautiful here too - up to 60 degrees now from 50 something. I've played on the computer long enough on the NE Pride thread and I'm out to the garden and to clean out the storage shed and garage!!!! Eleanor

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

It was 48 when I got up two hours ago, and now it's up to 58!

We did get some rain Thursday night and early Friday morning. Fortunately, it was just enough rain so that I didn't have to drag hoses around the house. I swear that next year I am getting some of those squiggly hoses that look like slinkys!! I hate dragging 100' of hose from one side of the house to the other!!!

Oh yeah - today: clear skies, light breeze, but I'm wearing a sweatshirt still when I go out in a few minutes!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

When I first looked 54, now up to 60 here too. Sunny with no breeze and dry air. Got a sprinkle over night not even enough to wet the mulch never mind get to the soil. :( Watered front gardens already. Good luck with your cleaning chores Eleanor, cleaned my shed out a couple of days ago, what a mess. :)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Candyce - I thought those hoses would be the answer, too, but they weren't. I prefer the lightweight ones (I think the name is Flexi Hose and available on eBay) but they will develop holes if dragged over cement, stones, asphalt. Still worth it to me!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Gorgeous! 67 and spectacular. Great weekend but I'll have to water.

venu, I think they may have to give permission to use a closed well. That's why I suggested that first. Of course they will not be the ones to actually help you do it.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

What happened with the slinky ones Pirl? I had thought about them but I thought they would reverse their twirl at some point like the old phone cords. Also, I would need one about 150'.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

You have to be Superwoman or Superman to pull them to the length stated. They're also not the same diameter as typical hoses. They don't reverse direction - that surprised me, too. We even bought the basket to keep the shape of the hose. It was a total waste of money.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks. My skepticism was justified.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Hmmmm .... darn it all! I guess I will have to re-think this one! Thanks for the input, buddies 'o mine!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Look into the Flexi-Hose and get the 50' length. Try finding it with a one year guarantee: they did honor it for me and didn't ask for the old hose to be returned. Dismiss the reel to wind it up or you'll find it too time consuming and annoying.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

61 right now. Supposed to go down to 50 tonight! Love it!! More great weather the next two days. Love hearing those crickets.

Mid-Cape, MA(Zone 7a)

Today on the Cape it was 74 degrees, sunny, not humid, PERFECT! Yesterday it rained, foggy, ugly, roads flooded (briefly) . . . but not enough water to be considered "irrigation." Supposed to be nice tomorrow, which is good since I have 23 people coming for a picnic. This former Californian is still amazed and amused by the vagaries of NE weather.

Yesterday was startling sunshine, 80 degrees, swirling breeze, kind of day that invigorates body & soul. 50 degrees at the moment and today is supposed to duplicate yesterday. Feels soo good. Victor is right. Technically you need to contact the health or water dept. to restart your well, and if your town is anything like mine, there will be a fee. We had paid $30,000.00 to install a new septic system,. nearly 1/3 of which was permits & fees, and they forced us to tie into town water. A few months later the water dept. was making a routine check???? When he finished and was about to leave I mentioned that we water the gardens w/old well. Well, he started saying he had to go to recheck the system, that there may be another fee yadda, yadda. I reached my limit; I told him , loud & clear, exactly what I thought of him trying to intimidate a little old lady, and the town with all their newly initiated fees. Then I threw him off my property! When I turned tigress I do believe I frightened him. He has not been back.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I'm jealous CCG! I love the cape in the fog.

daiseycat - good for you!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Whooo Hooo!! Good for you, daiseycat! We have almost the same situation going on - we need a new spetic system and we have an old well, too - in the cellar!

Anyway, the weather this morning is very pretty, but very chilly!! The temp was just 36 when I got up at 6:30 - waaaaayyyyyy too chilly for me, so I turned on the oil furnace! Sheesh!!!

Now, outside it's up to a balmy 41 degrees and the fog is burning off froim the lake next door. The skies look beautiful and there's no breeze.

Supposed to get into the mid-80s today. Think of that! An almost fifty degree change in temperature! Amazing New England!!

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Yes, it seems that every tax cut results in a proliferation of new (and sometimes expensive) fees and permits. This means that a few people end up paying extraordinary amounts to make up the short-fall in revenue.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Yes, it was chilly here this morning - around 50 degrees. Not sure that the brugs will be happy. But I am! I bought 3 Equadorial Pinks on a 3-for-1 sale - and all three survived! The first set of blossoms are just opening - but too many cool nights will kill them off, I think.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

You'll have to let us know how they do.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

I am going to try to get pictures today.
