Thanks, everyone. Yes, Grammy, that was my hubby that weed whacked my nasturtium. He doesn't even go anywhere near my gardens anymore. Guess I 'learned' him. :)
Hope everyone enjoyed their Labor Day, we went to a local private owned zoo. Just the perfect size for the little ones. Beautiful out yesterday and today, a little hot for the beginning of Sept. Where's the rain?????
Today's Weather in Your Garden
Very cloudy now. 62. Supposed to be mostly sunny and 78.
No clouds here, the temp dropped a bit from yesterday but my water bill is actively going higher as I type. I'm going to the beach :)
We didn't have more rainy days though - just more storms that dumped alot of rain in a short period of time.
We need to write a letter of complaint! Rain must fall as the song, "Camelot", dictates:
It's true! It's true! The crown has made it clear.
The climate must be perfect all the year.
A law was made a distant moon ago here:
July and August cannot be too hot.
And there's a legal limit to the snow here
In Camelot.
The winter is forbidden till December
And exits March the second on the dot.
By order, summer lingers through September
In Camelot.
Camelot! Camelot!
I know it sounds a bit bizarre,
But in Camelot, Camelot
That's how conditions are.
The rain may never fall till after sundown.
By eight, the morning fog must disappear.
In short, there's simply not
A more congenial spot
For happily-ever-aftering than here
In Camelot.
Camelot! Camelot!
I know it gives a person pause,
But in Camelot, Camelot
Those are the legal laws.
The snow may never slush upon the hillside.
By nine p.m. the moonlight must appear.
In short, there's simply not
A more congenial spot
For happily-ever-aftering than here
In Camelot.
Hope that works!
Last Sunday and through most of the week there was no need for any night lights with the brightness of the moon. We should make that mandatory, too.
Off to the garden I go.
The temp has recovered from a chilly 42 to 72 right now. Sunny again and very dry. Starting to get more humid end of week and back up to 90 again, maybe some rain late in the weekend I hope.
Once again, a gorgeous day.
Temp right now is just 55, so it's a bit chilly for me without a sweatshirt. But otherwise, ahhhhhhhh!!!
I am yappy today. Weather is beautiful BUT. New Hampshire needs rain. It was on the news last night that Farmers are not getting the rain for the crops. It showed a picture of a beet, and the root was long. The farmer said that the plant was searching for water. It showed other pics and we need rain. Corn is taking a hit as the ear is not developing as good as it should.
In my pee-wee garden we pulled 2 tomato plants up. The roots were longer than years past.
Hey, my garden misses me!!!!very nice day....
Kassia:
How can you tell that your garden misses you?
☺
Candyce - maybe Kassia heard it through her grapevine?
In short, there's simply not
A more congenial spot
For happily-ever-after. . . GARDENING. . . than here
In Camelot.
Pirl, I loved the transcription of this wonderful ode to Perfect Gardening weather -how did Lerner and Lowe know exactly what we want?? (Somebody must have been a gardener when he wasn't composing. . . er. . . composting?)
The days here on the Cape have been long, lovely, sunny golden days of 72 degrees and I want some rain, but only after sundown.
That's not too much to ask, is it?
I think not! Gabrielle, the tropical storm may be the answer to our prayers. She may be passing by this weekend.
Of course not! None of us want to be inconvenienced but we all do need the rain. I'd be happy to have some rain every night from 9 PM to 4 AM but I've been saying that for years and no one is listening to my plea.
Each day, for the past week, has been in the fifties at night, and in the high seventies in the day, with bright sun shine and a lovely brisk breeze. Talk about a WOW factor...each day is amazing. Yesterday, DH & I drove to Connecticut. Many groups of "changing" trees were noticable. That's about a month early. Weatherperson said it's due to this prolonged drought. I do hope for rain, even if it must be durring the day, but I'm lovin each day of this weather. :)
I just came in from watering. It's chilly and it's cloudy.
Temp when I started watering: 48 degrees
Temp now: 53 degrees
The wind is gusting now and then, but there is no rain forecast for my area.
Pirl , ☺ yeah, I'm sure Kassia heard it through her grapevine - LOL!!
LOL... I just KNOW my garden misses me... I can tell by the way everything looks so sad & depressed when I am not there... then I just stop & and we have water together and of course some quality time and tell the plants I am back and about 1/2 hr later the plants all look happy!!!!
Today is cloudy here and 61 degrees ... my garden still wet from yesterday quality time! and I am happy for the clouds because I just planted 3 new roses yesterday... so it's ok for the new roses...
Still only 56 here very overcast, no wind, looks like it could rain but not going to according to the weather guy. Watering rose bed now and did the back beds earlier. A lot of yellow leaves in the woods, hoping that storm comes far enough north to dump some rain on us.
74 and partly sunny here. A bit muggy at 60%. Hoping for Sunday rain.
72 here, sunny and breezy: great for digging, weeding, packaging, transplanting!
82 sunny and a nice breeze. Was able to get some weeding done.
Is this thread loading slowly for anyone? We're over 300 but without many photos it's usually not so bad. Let me know and I can start a new one.
Victor:
I've noticed that some times during the day, DG does load a bit slower. It may be that.
Woke up to clouds this morning, thought we'd get some rain, no such luck. Starting to get humid it's supposed to be 90 tomorrow and sticky. Yuck.
Still not sunny but at 69 with 84 humidity. Chance of rain tonight so I better get packaging right now.
Sun coming through clouds now. 66 degrees.
Sunny a touch more humid and 64. They are saying the weather pattern is going to change finally end of weekend and beginning of next week, maybe more normal rainfall. Fingers crossed. :)
Same ole, same ole. 72 degrees, brilliant sunshine, pleasant breeze. I can't ever remember such a lenghty span of perfect weather Then only complaints around here are the shout outs from the brown, crunchy south lawn.I vaguely remember an oriental saying which (very loosely translated) said; to have perfection, there must be one thing wrong. So, tough luck lawn, your it. :)
You mean - this is not normal weather for the North East? Man, I was sooo hopeful.
so what is a normal summer like?
Did anybody see this? I thought of Victor and my son instantly!!

I got goose bumps watching this.....it's what nightmares are made of!!!!!
well, I have decided that there is no such a thing as a normal summer here!!!
Celeste - you just gave me nightmares!!
I warned you it was what nightmares were made of! It creeped me out bad and im not allergic to them!!
I saw an episode of Dirty Jobs that was like that.
I like Dirty Jobs, he really get's himself into some doozy situations!!
The worst one to me was when he was in the SF sewer with all the bugs and a rat jumped right onto his crotch!
That was bad, but the other day he had to pick up poo at a zoo with gloved hands!! He didn't seem to pleased with the situation and when he went to the polar bears pool to rinse his hand the lady said 'NO...they swim in there!'
Another time he was in a house in Queens, NY where the sewer backed up through a lady's toilet and he had to scrape off all the muck. That one almost made me sick.
Seandor, Kassia is absolutely correct.
