Fall 2007 RU

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Well, my DH and DDs 1 + 2 have it off from school, and it's SO very unusual to have that much tine off all in a row - three whole days - most Sat.s DH works. I don't know about this one. But even 2.5 days we can make into a vacation. DH works for jetBlue, so we get free airfare standby only. So we always go to the Caribbean during hurricane season but we manage to do pretty well. My point being, I probably can't - or wouldn't - want to spend a whole day doing what I want to do, it will be a family weekend thing where we go away SOMEWHERE. We had a fantastic time in Aruba, flew down Sat. night, roasted on Sunday, then flew back on Monday.

xx, Carrie

Let's get this straight right now - it's actually Canadian Thanksgiving - and yes, I will be at the RU :-)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The Canadians give thanks Columbus bumped into the Dominican Republic?

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

The Dominicans sure don't!

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Kassia, when it gets down to a few days or a week before the RU, could you post a 'sticky' notice with only the info needed? No chatting or replies allowed! Thanks!

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

LOL.. Yeah a thread this long.. It is hard to find info..

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Sure!!!! my pleasure!!! I will send a blast email to everyone that is attending!!!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

That should work like a charm, Kassia.

Hey, I said I'd help out with this RU, too. What can I do to help?

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I don't think I can come. :-(

x, C

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh Carrie.... you should THINK about coming!!!!!

Candyce, so far that is really nothing to do... but we need to figure out who is bringing what to trade so we have an idea if we need some tables etc... I don't think we need name tags... do you?

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Name tags? We don't need no stinkin' nametags!! We are all friendly enough to introduce ourselves ... or guess!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Well, if I were able to come, I would really appreciate nametags. I remember what Andy Seandor Kassia Debi and Boojum but other than that, I'd be clue-free. I remember the faces of flowers..... just not people! But I don't count anymore.

x, C :>(

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Yes, you count, Carrie ....
Repeat after me .....
one, two, three, four .....

Carrie counts!!!!!!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Reservations are made at 85 Main for 11:30 on Saturday October 6!!!
We are booked in a seperate downstairs room at this time. This would give us privacy & space HOWEVER, they charge $50 to use it (plus what you order off the menu) It will mean $4-$5 extra each, but I think it's worth it. If people feel differently, we could reserve upstairs or find another restaurant. Again, here's the link: http://www.85main.com/contactfinal.htm

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Dave ~
that place sounds awesome!! And the food looks great and very reasonably priced, too.

Southington, CT(Zone 6b)

Again, the 85 Main St restaurant is in Putnam, rather far away from Logees & Danielson (even farther than the Vanila Bean). I guess my alternate, closer suggestions didn't fly? Oh well...

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Hey, I think that is great Dave47. Thanks for taking the initiative.

Now, let's think things through. I personally prefer to go to Logees afterwards because I intend to buy two hanging houseplants for our newly finished dining room and I don't want the plants withering in the car - so Logees will likely be after lunch and swap for me.

So, if I find some plantlings (perennial) I should bring them?

Michaela

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Would anyone be upset if I bring my book with my plans for the terrace garden? I would really like to show them to people who could give some intelligent feedback before I plunge in.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Our resevation for lunch is at 11:30. Logees is expecting us around 1:30.
Michaela, I can't imagine anyone not enjoying the chance to give or get feedback.

Sorry Nerm. Folks seemed to like the menu and w/o a host, I think having a seperate room is important.

So everyone mapquest to 85 Main then from there to Logees

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Nerm, I hope this means that you'll still come, but I do agree with Dave. I'll be coming from pretty far away, it would be nice to have everyone all together around one table.

Harper

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Uh, Dave47, could you offer the full address? I know the restaurant is 85 Main - but what town? Putnam, is that correct?

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I'd love to do lunch.
I'd love to see the plans.
I can't wait for October 6th!!!

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

**sigh** and I got all excited for a minute.. It's Putnam CT, not Putnam, NY.. Who knew there's two putnams.. There's no way I can convince DH to drive me to lunch then to Logees.. Hard enough time convincing DH to take me to Logees already.. From the looks of it, might have to sit this one out after all then.. :( Maybe next time in NY then.. **sigh**

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Sorry I can't drive you Icosden. My car will be full. Yeah, next time we could have our RU in NY.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

NO WAY.

Southington, CT(Zone 6b)

Icosden: An option might be to eat at a restaurant closer to Logees itself. There's actually quite a few (see above)... But I understand the thought that many people would like to eat together in a separate room (though that could probably be arranged at a closer location too)...

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Quoting:
(though that could probably be arranged at a closer location too)...

nerm: Are you offering to arrange it? You've made a bunch of suggestions, but left it up to other people to take action. Speaking as someone (like many of us) who is totally unfamiliar with that area, and who doesn't have time to go location scouting, i am grateful that Dave has been brave enough to take the lead and to arrange a definite plan when no one else had. I don't think people were rejecting your suggestions, but everyone wants something definite. Too many people are coming from too far away to leave things to chance. I just want to know that i will get to share some quality time with the actual people i share words with here, and if that means paying a little more to guarantee a good meeting space, it is worth it to me.
Some of the places you mentioned did sound small-ish, seating 20 or so in total, and we are how many now? But it is possible that if you were able to confirm a place in advance with space for everyone to sit together, which is closer and cheaper to Logee's, that might be agreeable too.
i'm willing to consider it...

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

Ok-so...me being a smidge selfish...everyone going to the RU is deciding on where to eat for lunch, but Logee's, we are all meeting at 130p? That should give me enough of a leeway, in case I get lost or something...lol.
Please for the love of everything sacred...130p...Logee's...please please say yes!!!!
Isn't there a olive garden/tgif/applebees/redlobster...or large chain restraunt...most of those places will makeroom for a large group...and with their respective menu choices...have something for all budgets? If I'm adding fuel to the fire I'll shut up. To bad there wasn't a buffet of some sort on the way or in the area.
Can't wait to meet everyone...!!!!
Victor, you should have mail soon!

Southington, CT(Zone 6b)

Amy: The fact is, Dave took the action first & I have bowed to what seems to be the general consensus. If you read my post of alternate listings above more carefully, you'll see that some restaurants I located on my scouting expedition do have larger capacities. In any case, I'm OK with leaving things as Dave suggested, esp. since I'm new to this forum. If it turns-out I'm able to go, I most likely will eat at one of the nearer spots, though.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Micheala the address menu etc. are on the link I reposted.

Actually this restaurant idea came from Don and I thank him for all the research he put in.. I have posted a series of options (park or restaurant, time to meet, Logee's or food first, pay for Logee's tour or not, pay for room at 85 Main or not). Each time I have done what the majority requested. I would have altered plans if it would have made a difference to anyone, but when I checked that out, the person concerned was not sure if they were going.

I'm just trying to get a consensus.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Kudos to you Dave. Your effort is appreciated.

Amsterdam, NY(Zone 5a)

It all sounds so wonderful and I'm sure you'll have a great time! I'll think of you as I am shopping at the LL Bean store in Freeport (and eating lobster until I grow claws!). I hope another trip is planned at some point for Logees - I think I need just about every plant they grow. Someone please take a picture of the lemon tree. Hope to see you at the next RU!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Have fun db!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I agree with Victor. You're being as fair as you can and you're not getting paid to do this! Thanks for this.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Thanks folks.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I'm not coming - am jealous, but, it would be fun to guess who's who

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm Dave.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Your lucky!

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Ah - you might be Dave, Victor - but you're not Dave47! Thanks for all your work, Dave47! :-)
