Fall 2007 RU

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Victor is Victor and Dave47 is Dave47 - or are they? My cousins had two sisters who were friends of theirs, and they always tricked us by switching their names when they introduced us. Ha ha ha. On the other hand, this is worse: my DH used to date one of a set of identical twins, and they always used to make him guess before the date could begin. Now, he's MY DH. So guys, be sure Dave and Victor didn't meet in a parking lot and switch identities.

Jealous!

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

Thanks Sofonisba.. I saw your offer but I wasn't sure I was going to be around before.. A lots changed since August.. I'm pregnant, no cross-country commute and international travels all off now..

Guess I'll just wait and see what pans out.. Maybe I'll just meet everyone at Logees and do what Nerm suggest (eat close by). Dunno..

Have to say, if I was there, I probably won't be hard to guess. Pregnant chick with a growing belly.. (4 month so not a big belly yet) :)

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Now there is an invitation for trouble!
"Are you our pregnant DG buddy?" "Excuse me, I'm NOT pregnant!"

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

LOL, yeah! Ya better not ask me that question!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Fortunately, I am spared that question. Can't figure it out.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

which part..?
; )

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yeah, what?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Guys never have to worry about being asked if they are preggers.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

it was the "can't figure it out" part that had me curious...

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I can think of a few guys that have been 'expecting' any day now for a few years now.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, I've seen some guts on guys that rival any woman hours away from delivery.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

They're always so sensitive about it, too

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Or overly proud!

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

LOL.. That's funny.. Never though of it that way.. LOL.. Gee, makes me think that people look at me think I'm just a big chunky right now, instead of pregnant.. That's not good.. LOL.. Have to say, I've make that mistake once but the lady just had a baby like a week ago.. So she was still shedding her weight.. But I am careful about that question now..

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

OMG funny. It all depends on how people carry their weight, men and women. Like, I was shopping for baby stuff when I was like four months pregnant with my first daughter, and the lady asked me "how old is your baby?" Never a good question to ask. Also, there are styles that are fashionable right this very minute that make anyone look pregnant, so much so that I asked mt 17yo daughter if there was aa chance... And there's a picture of me with my XH when I was leaving to have the baby in which I look about 4 - 5 mos pregnant. And then there are people, women, who are SO SKINNY they look like a stick with a balloon glued on. Sorry if that's you, Icos... sure wasn't me. On the other hand, due to that giant pelvic cavity, my babies were down in the right position months before it was necessary.

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

Carrie, that would have been be 10yrs ago. Nothing but skin and bones before I met my DH. Now, I have some meat on my bones here.. I'm blaming it on DH. :) Let say my mom's keeps telling me that I can stop gaining weight now. That was before I was pregnant too.. LOL.. Now she's just worried about me loosing the weight after the pregnancy.. LOL.. But then again, she's like skin and bones.. Guess she expected me to take after her..

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I was uh er voluptuous until I got divorced, then I got REALLY skinny, then I met Mister Right and he started feeding me! Someone at church asked me "Carrie, have you been GAINING weight?" which is not a safe question either, and I was trying to decide how to answer and she kept going and said "because you look TERRIFIC; you used to be so skinny." I guess it ended up as a compliment? That was ~ 10 yrs ago and, aside from the bad news that my superskinny clothes didn't fit any more, my clothes have fit exactly the same way for ten years now and I'm starting to wear them out instead of getting sick of them. I think that must be a sign of maturity/old age; your taste stops changing.

On the other hand, I had a really hard time gaining weight with both babies. They told me "10 lb.s by 20 weeks" and I couldn't do it either time. How are you doing/feeling? And tell your mother to mind her own business?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Harper, You got it all.

Upstate, NY(Zone 5a)

I wish I could come!! Maybe next time. How often do you have the round ups? I would be very interested in meeting some of the people here. Everybody is so nice.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

hey wow - only a week away now. (well, a week tomorrow...)
Should we be doing a thread on who has what to bring for trade or giveaways?
i have grandpa otts MG seeds, a couple of little coreopsis nana, some black/red/green coleus (only one i know for sure is black dragon), and a little bath's pink dianthus. O, and a couple basil plants. Nothing very interesting, sorry. Maybe more things, depends on what i can figure out to divide this weekend.

Amy, :-(, that's a lot. I wish I could come.....

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Okay everyone -cross your fingers for me - I have come down with a terrible virus (this is the 2nd day) - and I REALLY want to come next week - so keep those fingers crossed that I feel MUCH better

Michaela who is sick in bed . . . . sigh . . . .

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

Carrie, I've been like you.. Skinny as crap and couldn't gain a pound until I met DH then I gain 25% of my body weight.. LOL.. Couldn't gain weight to save my life and now can't loose weight to save my life.. Not that I want to loose any right now being pregnant and all.. LOL..

Well, I'm still negociating with DH about coming.. He's offering to take me to The Sagamore for the weekend though.. Hmm.. Always wanted to check that place out.. Tough choices.. :)

Lindy

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Where is Pawling relative to Springfield MA? I mean, if you have to drive through Springfield, do you want to park your car at my place and we continue the journey together, Lindy?

Assuming, of course, I am over this viris. . . .

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

Michaela. Thanks for the offer. Pawling is 15minutes from Danbury, CT on the NY side.. And I'm still negociating cuz I'm still trying to squeeze a safari out of my DH's business trip. I'm trying to convince him to take me to South Africa with him. :) He keeps say no but I haven't given up yet.. :)

Oviedo, FL(Zone 9b)

Not pregnant, didn't lose any weight from chemo, and have more hair now. I want to join you at this roundup! No UMass football/marching band that weekend. Danielson looks to be about 1 1/2 hours away from me here in Saugus. I don't care much about the restaurant except that I think we will enjoy the separate room. they have a raw bar, Yum!
Yes, we really need the significant details posted separately here. Picking them out of this thread will certainly insure that someone or other gets lost or is way late or something.
can't wait to see you again!
Martha

Amsterdam, NY(Zone 5a)

Lindy -
the Sagamore is very nice. You have to have Sunday brunch there.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Martha, are you involved with Marching Band??? xx, Carrie

when you guys make your separate thread, I won't be there - I'll be in Utah.....

Oviedo, FL(Zone 9b)

I am still a band parent. sally is a sophomore at UMass and in the trombone section om the marching band. Our lives are governed by the football schedule at the moment. October 6 is a bye week for UMass. They are going to a couple of band festival/competitions over this weekend while the football team is away. down in NJ and PA. Game is at BC actually. I love to watch them march!
Proud trombone mama,
Martha

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

WOW. My DH is a band teacher AND a bone player! All these days... months... years..., Martha, I never knew. DH is buddies with the Marching Band guy at BC, in fact.

trombone wife, Carrie

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

My wonderful nephew/godson was a BC band guy (actually, he used the term : band geek). What a wonderful experience it was for him.

Westbrook, CT(Zone 6a)

Also a band person, but now just the sit-down type, no more marching. Just bought a new tuba--for one crazy moment I was considering using the old one as a planter.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

That would be great!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I use Band Aids.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

what would a day be like without these laughs!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

When I was a junior in high school I joined the marching band so that I could irritate a girl who had stolen my boyfriend at the time. it kinda backfired, because I really grew to love music and then chorus, too, after that.

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

dbsmith2, thank you for the info.. I'm gunning for a trip to Africa or the RU though.. :)

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

OK, so who among you band-ophiles (not band-aids!) knows what DRUM CORPS is/are? I had never heard of them until I met my DH 10 years ago! But then, I was never an instrumentalist, always a singer, a musical theorist, a music historian, but beyond banging two stones together, not an instrumentalist. There was a trumpet player in my high school orchestra, no band, marching or otherwise, and no football.

xx, C

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

i started a thread on what people are bringing to the RU elsewhere on the NE forum. Is that ok? i am unsure of proper RU protocol...

I'm not going to that thread, it would make me too sad.
