Whats blooming today #10

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Hi Pixie,
Andrew is Maine this weekend, but is currently grounded for barking on the beach....
Hopefully he'll be out of time out soon...
He absolutely LOVES the beach...

Nice DL once again Pix. Luv the sun flower, have one a squirrel or someone planted in an old pot getting ready to bloom, hope they don't eat it first. Adorable furry friends you two have there. :)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Your in Maine this week? Where abouts? It's pretty dreay and rainy here right now, hope it clears up soon. I am heading to Lewiston/Auburn area to watch the hot air balloons, eat some junk food, check out the crafts and watch the kids on the rides at the carnival. No lift offs this morning due to the weather so there should be double lift offs around 5 tonight if it's clear. Better for me!!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Jade is a Chinook and i'm guessing Andrew is an Irish Setter?

Great shots. Celeste, did you name that DL China Lake? Pretty coincidental, isn't it? Was it developed nearby? It's a myth, by the way, that Goldenrod causes allergy - it doesn't. It's Ragweed, which is confused with GR. I like the look of GR, but it's very aggressive - I'm always pulling it.

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Very breezy in Maine today. Having everyone over for a Bar B Que Party. Been up since 4:00 AM *lol*
Everyone enjoy their day!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Good luck Kim - have a great day. Time to go to sleep soon!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Victor, I wish I could lay claim to naming that DL but no. I actually was browsing one day and saw it and had to have it since the real China Lake is across the street. It is a nice daylily and seems to look a little different each year, keeps things interesting!
The GR is everywhere in the field along with crown vetch, camomile, black eyed susans, queens ann lace and to many otheres to name. I find it very pretty in a natural mother-nature kinda way.
Kim good luck with you BBQ..it should clear off soon!

Ugh! It's only 61 degrees here right now, and cloudy and very breezy! Funny, if it was 61 in February we'd be happy.

As promised a new photo of the glorious Gloriosa. She managed to pose very nicely despite the breeze.

It's alternately sunny and cloudy here at the beach (we are on Drakes Island Beach in Wells). However, there is quite a breeze and the water is cold. We'll be taking my brother and sister-in-law over to K-port to do the tourist thing this afternoon. I'll tell hubby about the hot air balloons, he'll probably want to drive up....
Andrew is out of time out at the moment, and would love to meet Miss Jade sometime.
BTW, he is a Golden Retriever from Louisiana (we think he is a hurricane rescue).
see ya!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Pixie - I like your dark noid DL there. Don's Wild Heather is a sharp photo too! You really have cosmos just opening?

a few more dahlias - Fire Magic

This is one that fits into my good subject or good photo category. Up a ways I talked about Granny having my dahlia pic of the year with the mother of this plant last year. I can tell right away that I could take a photo of this standing on my head in a closet and not screw it up. Ferncliff Illusion.

I posted this one months ago, then dug it up and moved it. It's back to flowering - a short dahlia, Extase

This bug and flower was one of my favorite pics last year, they are back together again this year.

Celeste, those DLs are gorgeous and so is Miss Jade! And there's hot stud, Mr. Andrew all wet... cute!

Kim, good luck today. It may be windy, but it sure is pretty!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Al, I missed your posts because I was busy reading. Beautiful Dahlias and MG!!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

As usual, Al, you have gorgeous photos. I think I am in love with 'Fire Magic'.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Al, I'll take that bet. When can we expect you to come out of the closet with the photo??

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

out of the closet - your slthilly!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Al I think your right about Ferncliff Illusion, it gorgeous and I don't believe there could be a bad photo of it.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Ferncliff Illusion is wonderful!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Thanks all

Pirl - do you have any dahlias yet?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, even I like Ferncliff - not 'too' double!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Al - yes, a few but no good photos yet. I'll keep trying.

Pixie and Tamberlin - Miss Jade and Andrew are both lovely dogs! I'm glad Andrew was able to come out of time out in time to enjoy the beach some more. And Miss Jade has the nicest eyes!! Pixie - your pics were gorgeous as always! I have sunflowers about to pop, and will take come pics when they do. They aren't nearly as tall this year....maybe the weather??

Al - beautiful photos! The dahlias I have seen on this thread make it very tempting to try some next year!

It is like fall here today, and we may be in for some more rain. I have been out snipping seeds. My horseradish is also ready to be processed, and the heliopsis are still standing tall despite the heavy rains.........

Happy weekend, everyone!

DB - I have horseradish, too, and I'm curious how to judge when it's ready.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Pirl - my leaves are looking really straggly, so I usually dig up a couple of the bigger roots when I see them start to flop over. I've had a problem with the plants taking over a bed in the past, so last year I put them in whiskey barrels. They wintered over and are pretty hefty right now. I'll let you know how the roots look when I dig them tomorrow. Today I got carried away doing the tedious harvest of tomato seeds. BTW, how was the GK show???

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I have mine in a big fake terracotta pot but had to unearth them in spring so I wasn't sure what to look for but I'll go check the leaves now while we have a minute of light left. Mine had been invasive, too. I'm positive it's their nature but it took ten years to get them all out of the tomato garden.

It wasn't Prairie Home Companion, just the wonderful former poet laureate, Billy Collins. He had us all laughing in between poems. Tonight on PHC they did a repeat of "The Lanyard". I could listen to that poem every week.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

I'll bet that was a great show. We missed PHC tonight.....

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

here is an off the topic question.... sorry..... is it ok to save the seeds from a zinnia that has mildew?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I doubt the seeds would be affected by the mildew but I've never tried it.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

The zinia seeds should be fine, assuming the plant was growing well enough to get full flowers on it.

Rainy here today, here are 2 dahlias Yvonne and Contessa

Al the artist!! Cool.

Whitehall, PA(Zone 6a)

Thanks for the sunflower Pixie! Always nice to see a picture of a big ol' sunflower...especially because the seeds I bought this spring are still in the package, lol.
Al, I love negative mode pics! I never checked before I bought my camera, then discovered it doesn't have it, but it's time for a new one anyway. Your pictures are always so nice, what camera do you use? Also, I love that Convolvulus you have! I was arranging for to trade someone for some of those seeds, but then it turned out she couldn't find them so I had to pick something else. If you have any seeds would you be open to a trade?

Here's Agastache rupestris
