Best/Worse/What did I learn today! Part 11

Pacifica, CA

evening all,
murmur, i know what your talking about my grandmother is 90 but she'll repeat the same thing over and over and i just lose my patience sometimes, i think what gets my goat the worst is when she says everyone in this family got wierd since i retired i think all of you are going through the change at least yours dosnt remember mine holds it over my head and reminds me of the little black book everything is written in lol
wonder, sorry about work, but good job on your weight loss its hard i know i did weightwatchers and as impossible as it seemed it truly works, cheering you on, glad your going to share betty
jan, wholesale is great and we get 20% off that too were just a little spoiled
judy, i didnt know about the queen annes lace i loved it, isnt our betty just the cats meow we just love her she's so inspiring
sharran, i like the chair nice work the gold really makes it, omg how terrible and he was thinking he got away with it im so happy you got it returned im thankful nothing else happened to you gosh be careful.
betty, barrie isnt that closer to your home? oh wouldnt that be wonderful, i spoke to the girl i work with samantha poor thing she dosnt like the idea of having to look over her sholder. oh what a awful ordeal at home depot you do spend alot there you would think they would of been a little more customer service orientated, i sure hope it can be resolved oh and good luck at costco but there pretty good with returns.

best:garage door opener fixed tired of pulling the door up
worst: my bosses sister passed away this afternoon, she had been battling cancer and finally lost the battle

Morning, just on my way out...took down the entire screening and will be back at Home Depot tonight...lol...who knows - maybe it will work out...

Will post to all of you when I arrive at work..but..

Dawn D-mailed and she's ok...she'll explain work situation..but with DH having his operation yesterday and in a lot of pain, she said she'd not likely be on DG until the weekend...but prayers would be appreciated....

Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

Prayers - are easy and sometimes more beneficial to those that are praying - hope everything works out for Dawn and her loved one. Will Pray.

Ijamsville, MD(Zone 6b)

I think I missed something, what is happening with her DH Greg? They both have my best wishes, they will come out stronger together in the end of all this.

Betty, Good Luck @ Home Depot. My advice is to cut out the middle man and speak with the manager, no need to tell your story a million more times to someone who can't help.

Nice to see you over here Dyson!

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

hello all, so much happens during my night time that i feel i have been away forever!
maybe america does everything double time or maybe we are just so lay back we are just darn slow! lol dunno....

did you see that chair?? thats talent.. there is so much talent on the thread dont you think?
did you all see the wedding cake that franklins wife made of hand towels and such? it looks amazing!

tangie, if i could be there i would... trust me.
how cool would it be to just pop in for a cuppa or call in and take betty to lunch, or say hi the all the gang... you know.. just passing thought i would drop in....

wish you werent all so far away....im not even on at the same time!! waaaaaaaaaaaa :0(

oh dont mind me, im feeling sorry for myself and I shouldnt.... sorry... I'll cheer up, promise.

Now i cant remember who wanted the instructions for making the bracelet but here goes... its quite basic really.

you take size 8 knitting needles
beading wire 28 guage ( its quite thin)
seed beads of your choice
10 x 10 of signature beads. now this means bigger perhaps patterned or what ever you like or have hanging around.
you unwind some wire from the spool and start threading the beads on. i large bead then 3 seed beads. colour, size design it up to you.
you do this until all the main beads are threaded onto the wire which will leave the spool still hanging on the end. this stops the beads falling off the end.
then you cast on 15 stitches. Now this is the tricky bit as you are working with wire and its doesnt have a lot of give but be patient. it looks aweful the first couple of rows but it gets better.
knit each row. make sure as you wrap around the wire when doing the knit stitch that you catch either a main bead or 3 seed beads so every stitch has something in it.
you continue this until its the length that suits your wrist.
oh, i forgot, you must purchase a clasp for it of your choice. you can see i got the fob style, allow for the catch in your length measurement.
once you have achieved the correct length you simply cast off!
cut the wire loose leaving about 2" and wrap this neatly around the edge like an overcast stitch (like your wrapping the edge)
gently pull into shape here and there as it is a little plyable. then take a length of wire and begin wrapping the edge again in an overcast stitch to make the edge strong. when you get to the end where the clasp is to go, wrap in the clasp as you go! do this at both ends. this is the tedious part so be patient.
then, voila!
if you want some more closeup shots let me know or have any questions... happy beading!

Wow Laura, I'm going to try, never really done beadwork, but who knows..and yes, perhaps as we start out, close-ups would be great...

Welcome Dyson, always nice to meet a new friend...these ladies/gentleman (ok Frank - giving you the benefit of the doubt!) are what makes these threads so special..all are always around! We laugh/cry and truly care about each other...please join in, no one is a stranger!

Kim I'm going to try that tonight, just a nuissance...it was her attitude to say, well take it back, we'll refund your money...maybe she should read all my Sunday posts..lol/lol - she'd see why I wouldn't...but today's another day..I drove into the city myself today as SIL will leave her car for her University son to come up north this weekend...she'll get a ride home with me...we'll stop into 'stained glass' studio to pick up supplies/ nursery and then the famous Home Depot! Another late night...AND she brought me peameal bacon on a bun, yummy/yummy..don't think she remembered that I must start my diet...

I'm counting the days for Gillian to visit with her family, now wouldn't you all like to visit a little norther community in Ontario? I could be the recreation co-ordinator (miss the job since I retired from it) and I could plan all kind of things....

The Real Meaning Of Peace

There once was a king who offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace. Many artists tried. The king looked at all the pictures. But there
were only two he really liked, and he had to choose between them.

One picture was of a calm lake. The lake was a perfect mirror for peaceful towering mountains all around it. Overhead was a blue sky with fluffy white clouds.
All who saw this picture thought that it was a perfect picture of peace.

The other picture had mountains, too. But these were rugged and bare. Above was an angry sky, from which rain fell and in which lightning played. Down the side of the mountain tumbled a foaming waterfall. This did not look peaceful at all.

But when the king looked closely, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock. In the bush a mother bird had built her nest. There, in the midst of the rush of angry water, sat the mother bird on her nest - in perfect peace.

Which picture do you think won the prize? The king chose the second picture. Do you know why?

"Because," explained the king, "peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace."

LOL Frank she can't ship you the chair, I get it! :P~

Wonder don't downplay your talent, that is NOT easy! LOL I can see it if I made it...big old ball of mess with beads!

I have to tell on my Dad, he called yesterday to chat (I think he missed my sister and I during his trip) and he told me he had my goodie that he had bought for me and then he tells me "Now I got you and your sister the same thing" LOL reminded me when we were kids and had to have everything the same or we fought. I guess he doesn't realize we've grown out of that.

Strange Araness...mom called be over a few weeks ago and gave me $1,000 and said to buy myself something nice - not to spend it on the house...and most importantly, do not tell the others..just wanted to treat me...now know for sure, the minute I left another would be there for their secret 'gift'..but that's ok..makes her and Jim feel better...

Very hot and humid outside..just went for lunch..we decided to go to Dairy Kind and instead of eating a regular lunch we'd have a 'banana split' omg..I'm so full..but it was yummy..and here I'm talking diet...Monday morning I AM starting one...it's on my list of 'to do's...' then, I had dropped in to Canadian Tire this morning on my way to work to fill in 45 minutes and saw a great deal..they had imitation large rock fountain reg. $129.99 on for $29.99 so I bought 2 and Suzanne bought 2 and mine will be for Christmas gifts..unless, of course, I give them away before..lol..managed 1 in the trunk, 2 in back seat and where oh where to put the 4th..so we took it out of the box and put part in front/in back and trunk..where there is a will there is always a way...so I've made my Christmas list and will start each week shopping so that when Christmas comes, there will be little to do...Grandson Kyle (12) almost had a fit last year, I subscribe to another site that organizes you, well I bought an organizer last year..even planned what t.v. shows you would watch on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day and also foods etc. he thought that was a little tooooo far out! too organized....lol..so 2 1/2 more hours and we're off till Monday..

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Oh gosh guys i will have to catch up on this thread alone later because it is so behind for me, rather I am behind. Murmur I am sad for you and your bad days, I`ll pray for you. My friend is talking to me on the phone right now so i`ll post more later. love ya all.

Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

Hi Dawn. Hope you are feeling well and are having a good evening?

Banana Splits? Oh YUM, Betty! Banana Splits will be the perfect accompaniment for the marathon BLT binge I plan to start on a bit later tonight and continue on through the weekend (which has officially begun for me…yes!) or until I tire of them (highly unlikely). Fortunately, we have a super IC place less than a half mile away, by road. It’s called Mom’s and it’s been there forever and a day. Vanilla IC, chunky pineapple sauce with “wet walnut topping” (I know! Such an odd “name” but that’s what they are called :-) and lots of whip cream. Oh and extra cherries on top, please, at least three!

Oh Laura, thank you for posting the bracelet. It’s even more beautiful than I remember. My fine motor skills (arthritis…nothing to fret about, please. I’m very used to it) will not allow me to participate in the *WWBBBM* Um, that would be “World Wide Beautiful Beaded Bracelet Making” project, but I think it would be so cool if those who could, would. Think of it. Each in her own little corner of the world busily beading, exchanging tips and helpful hints, posting pics, documenting the process, then modeling the finished creations. Virtually (and literally) making them together? How cool would that be?

Off to read everyone’s posts…bbl to chat about them……Hugs…Jan

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

well you know if i could make you all one i would... but we will see what can be done...
i will start another one and take pics of the process and post them....i think i have enough beads.
they are good if you have lots of beads hanging around or if you can get them cheap,
the one i am showing you cost about $100.. i know its a lot but... back in the day when i was beading heaps, i bought really lovely beads. the butterfly you see on the bracelet is made of what i think is called serpentine which is only found in australia. i used to make earing out of them. they cost about $5 each! i have swarovski crystals in it and many other beautiful things that i had left over. if i had to go buy it all it would have cost the $100. but look around and see what you can find. usually you can get colour coordiated wire too!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hello all, finally home..stop at my brothers' to pay him for the shutters/work to close in bottom deck so broke again..paid 1/2 today and 1/2 for Thursday...then, purchased some fresh corn - and fresh baked tarts..now didn't I just say I was starting a diet..maybe I'll give them to the kids tomorrow...then a drop in at the Stained Glass Studio and just got in...unloading the car, my goodness, shopped tooo much today..got home to late to tackle Home Depot...opens at 7am..I'll be waiting..perhaps can talk to the day manager!

Greg just called, brought the 'Foxy Lady' home..all fibreglass, new rugs, newly upholstered seats, pad, chairs etc. Nice to have her home, who knows if it doesn't rain I just might be boating tomorrow afternoon...I'm just so excited...the photo's I'll take doesn't do her justice..she's 25' long , low and sleek..I'll post some, but will take some of her in the water....boy, that DH of mine cost more dead than alive..just kidding, for those of you who don't know, we found our boat that I had to see just after Roger's death, we've redone her from top to bottom, so it's good to have her back....

That surely will be my best of the day...
The worse..of course I spent tooo much money today...
What did I learn...that it's a long day when you are waiting to see if the offer on the new office in Barrie is accepted...would mean 1/2 the drive...still no call..let's hope for tomorrow....

When in the water, Roger had a tarp professional make a standing room enclosure..doesn't look the best when up but it makes sleeping for 4 below in the cabin and 2 on the back pad and then 1 on the seat if required...can't you just tell how excited I am?????

Laura, don't you even think about making them for us!
NOT/NOT/NOT, but it would be a challenge for you if whoever was interested in trying one, that you could visually lead us through the process...who knows, maybe before christmas I could lead some of you thru a quick craft...that way, we might all feel like we're together...just a crazy idea!

Victoria Harbour, ON

oooops, o.k. I'll stop, no more photo's but just thought I'd give you a view of Sharon (sister's) puppies..showed you photo's taken just after their birth..look how very cute they are....

Just asked about availability..sorry..all spoken for..one is going to Georgia and the rest in Canada...tell you what though, it would be easier adopting a child at my age than getting one of her puppies...she's spazzzz when it comes to her breeding...

Love the boat! Wow, everyone's so busy...

Best: Me and DD took a walk together this evening. Sometimes she doesn't want to go, but we always have fun. She's so sweet, but oh, hey, any other moms out there.

Does it seem like your child(ren) can read your mind? Like, a lot. And specific things, not just "Oh, I know you're tired", but kind of open their mouths and the exact thing you were thinking of comes out. Just wondering.

No Worst

What I learned: My daughter looks super cute in Pippy Longstocking braids...lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Tropicanna, you are so lucky to have a daughter...I'm envious...I can imagine just how much fun I'd have with one..not so sure in those teenage years, but it would be fun..enjoy it today-they do grow up so quickly...

Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

Yes, Laura. You will NOT NOT NOT. And I mean it. I had no idea of the cost, though it’s no secret to most of you that I haven’t a clue as to crafting. But Betty, that would be wonderful if you could lead a project. Something fairly simple and not too hard on the pocketbook would be such fun!

I thought of you while sitting on the front porch this evening….my mind wandered to you and HD. Actually went so far as to picture you in the store, being too nice but getting this infernal project’s last piece, the correct one.

She’s a beautiful lady, she is. I grew up handling boats before I could was tall enough to see through the windscreen. Learning to negotiate the tides under the bridges between the dock behind my grandfather’s house (right next door to ours) and open water was excellent practice for learning to drive a car when the time came. Same basic rules apply when around other boats to cars on the road.

Hi Shar….hope your day was good and your evening even better. How are you and the kitties tonight? Jazz is such a pretty orange marmalade kitten. Our “OC” looked and acted much the same as you describe Jazz’s behavior. He showed up at my sunroom doors after we moved to PA and screamed and demanded to be let in. Of course, I fed him right away and he never left. We were out in the country on a private road so I suppose someone dumped him. The vet estimated his age at seven or eight and he was one big, sweet guy, once he’d been on a good diet of food and love for a bit. He was just the nicest cat, with a huge round head, simply big and beautiful and never caused one bit of trouble. Nothing troubled him and he lived with us for eight years before he went to the bridge. My other two cats at the time were less than pleased.

Frank, you are right. No one else’s posts are too long. Mine certainly are though. I’ve never been able to break the habit of using two words (or ten…see?) where one would suffice.

Yes, Julie…waiting (not so) patiently for Part II? Truly hope today was a better one for you and holding a good thought near that it was so. Also looking forward to decorating pictures. I LOVE pictures.

You are right, Judy…never a shortage of weeds here, either. Though I am so excited. My glads are opening one by one and each is such a surprise when the bud begins to show color. I’ve posted a pic of the first to flower somewhere above, I think. A delicate white painted and edged in a ruffle of pink Two days ago I could see one in the front porch bed that was showing me some red, but now that it’s first buds are halfway open, I think it will be a deep, rich, red shaded with a touch of burnt orange. Should see true color tomorrow. Then, just this evening another peeked out with a glimpse of yellow. It’s as though someone is sneaking into the gardens each night and leaving behind a new one. I think I put twenty in over a month’s time so the surprises should continue well into August.

Glad your garage door is fixed Liz. My garage is now a three bay machine shed (lol) and there are no doors to lift. It does keep the snow off the vehicles and that’s the only time we bother to put them in there, when snow is predicted. Sorry to hear about the loss of your bosses’ sister. May she rest in peace.

Feel sure I’ve missed responding to some but will look back through tomorrow. Going now so I don’t have to listen to Herbie whine. *teasing grin directed at Frank*

Best and worst will have to wait for the morning.

Sleep well, all. Hugs. Jan

Oh...Betty, wondering if you've heard from Darius? She's much too quiet for my comfort. I've not seen her anywhere for days?

tangiegirl - we northerners shold stick together.

Sound advice Frank. Better listen to Herbie, Dyson, when it comes to my posts anyway.....Betty's are actually entertaining and should be read by one and all!

And yes, we should, Frank. But how much fun would that be? :-)

Cloudy, muggy here this morning but I'm off 'til Monday so it's a beautiful day in my neighborhood, regardless.

Morning all..

Grandson arrived for the day at 7:30..parents will pick him up after work..he's 10 and no trouble, enjoy having him around...

At 8:00pm - nephew home from University called and dropped in, he's going to a wedding tomorrow, has 2 pairs of pants that need shortning and wondered if Aunt Betty could do it for him, said could he pay me or he'd trade me some yard work..I just laughed and told him to enjoy the weekend...

Then off to home Home Depot..wouldn't you know it, the night manager was on days today..lol...the moment she saw me, she shook her head..think more in disbelief than anything else..gave her the entire 3 piece screening which was attached and the piece that would not zip up..she tried a few times and it wouldn't work..said she had to do inventory but she'd get me a clerk who would try her best....poor thing, think she was ready to tear them apart by the time I left..so, we did manage to get a make shift set, they will order new one for me or try to make the situation right..think the poor clerk was worried I'd pass out..

Over the past few weeks I've been experiencing dizzy spells, this morning I could barely stand up a few times while she was sorting thing out..she kept saying 'sit/sit' thought I was a dog..sit! lol

So, it's only 9:53 and I've done 2 loads of bedding and all the above...is today over yet..I've screening to hand on gazebo, g rass to cut, gardens to tend to, picnic with grandson, might go boating tonight if no rain...all in a days work...

So will check in with you all later.!

Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

It's no wonder you're dizzy, Betty. You never stop AND you don't eat right! Don't suppose there's any chance at all that you'll see a doc if these spells continue? Enjoy the boat if you get out on her and more pics would be lovely.

I'm headed out to do some errands in a bit and might have to stop and see what kind of wonderful sales some of the amish growers are offering. Now that all my new babies are in the ground....I'm experiencing the gardening equivalent of "empty nest" syndrome. Feast or famine. Either too much to plant or not enough.

You are so cute Jan.. Holidays don't start till the week after next..I'll call Monday for appt. as it has been going on for some time but not as bad as this, just feeling nauseated...bed spins when I lie down so best to keep active....off to try my luck with the gazebo screens..lots and lots of trouble for something I'll probably never sit in...(don't tell my boys though)..sun is out, think rain may have passed us by..have to set in the ground cover plants Darlene brought me this morning...fix trampled part under deck as it's all closed in now with door for storage...and on/and on...must get it PRETTY for my DG guests...

Glenview, IL

Good Morning Friends,
Well, miss one day and Boom tons to read. I am so behind it frightening.
However, I remain calm, well sort of...So Betty!

Without panicking here, I told you I am getting worried on those headaches and now dizziness? For the past few weeks?? My goodness, Please have this checked out. We don't want anything bad happening while you are waiting for it to subside. Please, tell us you are making an apptointment, Now! not later, very worrisome.

I am only scolding because well I-WE, just love you.

Ok, since I have missed yesterday, Will give 3 Bests-
First, Thank you all for your support-I have been keeping occupied with small things, and also taking time for myself. On Wednesday eve-After playing a touch of phone tag-Had a very wonderful talk with a friend. It was very nice to get to chat. I am truly lucky, that I asked for a little help and wow! 2nd. Yesterday, My youngest Brother called to say how he and family are doing. Haven't heard from him since March! I am releived to say he & family are doing well, so prayers have been answered there. I have a new niece arriving any time now!! Anticipation-whew. 3rd, My young friend,
Remember her? Alissa, has enrolled in a Educational Living program! She will go to college and get an apartment and learn about living on her own!! am so Proud of her...and she is proud of herself. To begin next month, So deciding what to give her for Housewarming gift. Oop, Got one more, Last night...Got, some energy and Stacked a whole Chord of firewood. Whew, I so forgot how much work that was, but got to admit it felt wonderful to sweat!

Worst: It takes me too long to figure out how "dumb" I am.
Also, Alissa got into a car accident-she will be ok, has to have her leg immobilized for a few days, but thankfully it's not broken. It is infuriating to me, that women who calls herself her mother-only stayed with her for the first round of xrays-then LEFT!! Her father was there when I arrived and was literally shocked that I appeared. Gave my "kid" big hug and a slap in the head for not wearing a seatbelt, and not beaing cautious at the turn. But she is going to be ok.

Learned: Family, Happy at my decision to stop rinking, and water tastes great...on the rocks-LOL

Ok I'll be back to respond to posts!

got to see whats on my agenda.
Have a great morning.
Judy

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sorry, can't talk now...back to Midland to - guess where - Home Depot...it will either kill me or I'll have screening up!!! geeeee whiiizzzz...part that irks me is I heard supervisor say ' have 7 sets in the back, we'll check them out before putting them up for sale...WELL open one of those boxes and give me a screen....

Maybe I should just sit there till they do, go on a sit-in...soooo if you don't here from me I'm probably doing a sit'in or I've been arrested....

The SAGA will continue..

Will say hi to all of you once I settle in for the day!!!!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Hey...
I have son and grandson coming tonight, so thought I would tell you that i will be MIA till sunday afternoon...in the meantime, Betty, please do something about the dizziness, please......

Have a wonderful weekend, take care, and I will be thinking of you.....prayers to you, too...and Herbie, be nice!!!!
Hugs

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

betty - what part of take it easy don't you understand

shar - betty tells me to stay out of trouble. susan tells me i am bad and now you tell me to be nice. i sense some kind of female conspiracy.

best thing - got to use the computer until my wife gets home

worst thng - i had to ask gita who will be joining me and family during our vacation in ocean cty maryland if she could change the day she arrives because i had to change plans.

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

female conspiracy..lol...poor ONLY guy on the thread...lol...yep, you poor thing...lol! Have a nice weekend everyone!

Best:Alice Cooper had to go back to the vet today but I think she's really gonna get better this time. And I had lunch with a person I worked with, it was nice

Worst: having to deal with the vet again

What I learned:I need to do a better job of keeping in touch with people sometimes

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

tropicanna - is your first name cruel?? LOL

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

there might be some guys that say that..lol

Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

Exactly, Betty....What Frank said!

Frank, I'm sure gita doesn't mind. Things happen. At least you didn't have to cancel altogether. Now that would be bad. Which reminds me. Behave yourself!

Thunder, lightning and rain for the past hour. Littlest dog panting on my lap making it hard to type with computer also on lap. Power's already flickered off and back on at least three times. Calling for rain, 2" or more through Sunday and maybe continuing into Monday and Tuesday. Can't complain too much though, as we need it. Just wish it wouldn't wait 'til the weekend to do so.

Today....
Best? Quiet day at home. DS going to visit his sister and family right from work, and DH works tomorrow, so weekend should be the same.

Worst? Umm...nothing bad enough to be called "worst" Well, except I'm watching a tivoed Paula Zahn CNN special on dogfighting (because of Vick, of course) and AHA's stats show that as many a 1 out of 5 grammer school children are actively involved with the dogs. Getting the dogs, (they're often kept in abandoned houses or commercial buildings as evidence of fighting dogs or training equipment usually gets you jail time) bringing them to the fights. Think on it, people. One in five! GRAMMER school children! Heaven help us. If this is true, we are in deep doodoo, for sure.

Learned? Rich, talented, getting paid the big bucks to experience adrenaline pumping excitement over and over again, adored by fans nationwide? Number 1 draft pick? It doesn't matter. If you're a disgusting, cruel, pig-poor excuse for a human being. Rich or poor. It just doesn't matter. I agree with some of the protestors...."NEUTER VICK" (and your pets, too! :o) Hope no one here is offended by that sentiment, and if you are, my apologies.
