Victoria Harbour, ON

Good evening all, now it's I who has to catch up on my posts...many things to share today...found a solution to my problem at Home Depot without needing the police force lol...I went to the front desk and asked if they had any gazebo's and yes they did in storage, so I got out my debit card and the girl I had been dealing with came along and said'everything turn out ok' and I said, oh yes, my son told me to come in and purchase a new one and he'd put it up for me and take the other down and return it..not in a box though as I burnt it...sooo she asked me to wait a moment and imagine my surprise, she came out with a full bag of new screening...came home and voila..they all fit! Should have thought to do that first...

Then Ann came over with plants and about an hour later Darlene came over with plants and chatted..managed to get all the grass cut and plants planted..then decided it was time to have a bath...6:00 pm...in my jammies for an easy night, and Greg called and said the boys wanted to know if we could all go to Penetanguishene by boat to the dock lunch and have supper...so dressed myself up again and had a wonderful evening boating...now I am tired... but have pictures to share..I'll share photo's and then I'll gab...

I've missed you all today.....while taking photo's I'm saying oh the girls and of course Frank will enjoy the photo's and DIL/DS and grandchildren shake their heads..not so sure they trust the internet!
lol or their old grandma..maybe with everyone finding boyfriends half across the world on internet, they just might think that's what I'm up to..NOT...

So here goes a few photo's....

As you enter into the towndocking area for the restaurant there are two large boats that have been there since I was a kid..they pay the municipality every year to park them, they even stay in the winter and these boats never leave the dock..they are used as cottages...

this is the other boat that's used as a cottage...

Jan, I am soooooooooooo with you on the dog issue. I don't understand the grammar school children thing, though - where are they talking about? Where the poor excuse for a human being lives? (BTW, my DH has an expression that fits here, I think . . . the man in question is "a waste of skin.")

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Betty, we cross posted - what glorious pictures and I am so glad you had such a good time!

Now, get to the doctor on Monday.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Now this is interesting...the Superjail is located in Penetanguishene..murderers from all over Ontario (and other provinces) for assessment and lifetime confinement...take note...

mega facility on right houses top notch olympic size swimming pool and recreation facilities, study halls etc..non finer anywhere...resort Ontario is what it could be called....on the left are the housing areas..with parks and walkways to the water...

Can you believe it? No wonder we have criminals...

Back safe and sound...enjoyed the evening...even though I felt as though I'd rather not go out tonight..just goes to show you..put a little effort into it!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Now, I'm looking for someone who may be able to help me out...my Aunt Muriel was given plants back many years ago of what she believes is a rare plant, at least for this area....she says she thinks it comes from the dandelion family...

The three she gave me look healthy and I noticed tonight they had closed blooms on them so I called her and she explained that when the coolness of the evening comes, you can watch them wiggle themselves open, when it starts to warm up in the morning, they close they same way..yellow flowers..you pick them off..some more mature plants she says can have up to about 30-35 flowers..she has them all around her garden and says each night get in the hundreds...so I'm starting with 3 plants in hopes as she says, the grow babies from streamers underground...lets hope..any idea of what the could be, again they may be something you all have in your gardens..just new to us!!!!

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Had hoped to take photo of it as they were opening but got back tooo late, but, each plant had a flower..thinks it's the first time for them..each week she says they increase in numbers...

Sorry, Carole. Typing so fast to keep up with my thoughts. Meant to say in the *Chicago School System* (Not one or two districts, mind you....the entire Chicago school system) And yes, I agree. A total waste.

Sleep time for me. Catch up on everyone in the morning.

Happy Weekend to all...Jan

another...flash takes away the yellow, perhaps I'm to close..try thing..

Tangie..thinking of getting the movie to watch..perhaps Blockbusters has it..maybe tomorrow if I get to town...sounds like it's worth viewing..We have an Amish town called St. Jacobs..about 2 hrs. from here, wonderful to visit..perhaps when I'm off..could be a treat! What did you spend your $$$ on? Love the flowers and agree with you re 'dog' fights..can you imagine school kids involved in this? Just can't believe it...

Judy, how is Alissa doing..can't figure out her parents...so glad though that she is returned to school..it's primarily due to your nurturing I'm sure...glad you made contact with your brother and his wife...you must have been on cloud nine...and a new baby to the family as well...wow...

Shar..have your boys again this weekend..how wonderful for you..did you show Ethan the puppies....

Murmur..you DH has it right..is a waste of human skin!
Frank hope you and Gita can co-ordinate your vacation times..wouldn't it be nice for you to meet...

Tropicanna...How is 'Alice Cooper' doing..you'll have to get 2nd job just to pay vet bills, but it's worth it for our little furry friends..must be some infection..any idea how it started?

Liz..great news..we should be doing this diet thing together...I'm commited..Monday morning for sure..Day 1 of many..results..skinny Betty...can't start diet before then, gotta feed Gillibean on Sunday right? maybe after she taste my cooking she'll be sorry she didn't say she was on a diet!

How are you this evening Dyson? Hope you've had a 'sunshine' day!

Laura, bet it's almost time for you to get up..I'll have to set my alarm in order to get up and gab...just kidding...

Dawn, hope you and Greg are doing ok...

Oh by the way, I still have periods of dizziness..my son gave me the beejeepers when he dropped in earlier today...says he's going to chain me to one of the outdoor chairs for a few days...

Anyway, I'll call Dr.'s office Monday and hopefully will be able to get in to see him the week I'm off...in the meantime..I'll monitor when I feel it the most...maybe it's something I can fix...hmmm....

It's been a mighty long day, another just around the corner...lots/lots to do...so I'll say goodnight dear friends..may the angels watch over you...bettybye

Betty,
So glad you got your screens all sorted out.

Here is a link to the ID for your new plants.
I was given three plants from a friend who didn't know what they were.
This should explain.

Cheers,

Victoria Harbour, ON

Carol, how wonderful, thank you...I'm so excited about them..just learning this gardening thing..don't know if it's old age, but I don't do well with names...was thinking that next years I'll paint little plaquets to identify them until it becomes so natural they'll not be needed....again, thank you..and yes, couldn't take one more trip to Home Depot...lol...now I'll have to sit in it won't I...

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Yes..you better slow down a bit.
How is your blood pressure? Have you checked it lately?

I've always been healthy (other than kidney..only have 1/4 of one and 1/8th of the other) but doing well, don't think I've ever had my blood pressure checked except the odd time when I visit doctor...last time I visited him I'm sure it's nearing 3 years ago...but it's a though..have put on weight of late and not eating more than usual, if anything eating much less...also want to check other areas as I'm always drinking something..retaining liquid I guess...but thank for the info on the plant, just read the information..it's like a little miracle happening watching them open...sure hope they have babies this year..would like to give some friends a plant...

So thank you again for info and your concern...

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

You are very welcome..
Take care..
have a great weekend with Gillibean.
I'm off to bed now.
Good night and sweet dreams

Check this site out for dieting - 8/4 is supposed to be a good time to start a diet (according to the moon). There's a bunch of folks going to start then (I'm still just considering it!).

This is a hit and run posting...If I don't get out the door this very minute....yesterday's errands won't get done today, either.........

Ijamsville, MD(Zone 6b)

Off to the farmer's market - enjoy the weekend!

Oh real quick - Best for yesterday - Found out my mom is coming to visit for 5 days in August!!!!!! I could not be more excited!

-Kim

Victoria Harbour, ON

Tangie...wow, look at those plants..what did you feed them? yummy....

Kim, how excited you sound! Won't it be fun to have mom around to spoil you...love it, makes me feel like a little girl when mom takes me shopping...that is the best for today for you I'm sure...let us know how you make out at farmers market....

Went into Walmart to get proper thread to fix nephews pants..all done..dropped off excess screening to Home Depot..managed to pick up 3 beautiful shrubs now its 'weeding' time and then I'll sit and paint my 2nd chair...now that's relaxing...

Oh Shar..I picked up everything I needed to do my quilted sweater, am hoping to do little pieces for instructional purposes for you...so many things to do, so few hours...lol..

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

No kidding - I wish I didn't have to sleep, maybe I'd get more done! Nah. Then I would just find more things to NOT be able to finish!!

Have a lovely Saturday, everyone.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You've hit it right on the nose...I'm just drenching with sweat (no dripping water's more like it...) came into the air conditioning for a coffee and break..shortly back out..would say in 2 hrs. gardens would be weedless...soooo am on a mission...

Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

tangie - nice matters, & my wifes Yarus is the same color, you cannot beat the mileage with less than a hybrid & I figured that 10 more MPG really was not worth 10,000 more dollars sticker.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dyson...Yaris was my pick when looking for a vehicle...but, because my DIL works and gets mega discount I ended up with a Avio...it's about 2 weeks old..so far, not impressed with gasoline consumption..but they all tell me you have to break vehicle in before getting true mileane??? don't know..but love the Yaris! Maybe next time...

Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

Thank you, Dyson. I should have taken the picture from nearer to the ground and it would have almost completely hidden the car.....and, Betty, I haven't done a thing to them except stick them in the ground, prune them near the bottom a bit and mulch them)

Agreed, Dyson, on the extra $$$ for the car. I'm pleased with the mileage, so far. Betty, I don't think you have to break them in anymore? At least, that's what I've been told. Who knows?

Kim, that's really great about your mom's visit. Any special plans? Or just a wonderful time hanging around the house?

Judy, Alissa is fortunate to have you in her life. And poo on her “family”. You are more family to her than the people you describe are. Blood isn’t ALWAYS thicker than water, nor should it be, in certain families. I miss you on the weekends and in the evenings. Do you have a guesstimate on computer at home? And it does my heart good to read that you had not one best, but three. Keep on keeping on, woman.

Missing Laura, too. Wonder, where are you, dear?

Caught up with Darius on another thread. I believe she has a torn rotator cuff…..not good news. More doctors for her in August, I think. I’ll recheck the thread and revise here if necessary. If I’m not mistaken, it looks as though Dyson has been (is being) a great help in her quest for spring fed water. How nice of you, Dyson. Really, really, nice.

Betty, so glad the great gazebo fiasco has come to a successful conclusion. And if you don’t take a little time to rest up, you’ll sleep through gillibean’s whole visit.

Wonderful pictures of and from “Foxy Lady”. You’re both beautiful. And, I do highly recommend the movie. It’s not too long, either. I think maybe an hour and forty minutes? Does your home system play discs or tapes? I just picked up the book this morning an am looking forward to starting it later tonite.

Also, Betty asked what I spent my money on? Here are pictures of the two big hanging baskets that followed me home today. They also brought along three new hardy hibiscus about 3’ tall and full of buds. And somehow, five 6” pots of tall snapdragons climbed into the back seat while I wasn’t looking. Darn things.

I’ll take pics of the rest again later. I shot them first and they were all blurry as the lens was full of condensation from bringing the camera out of the A/C.

Thumbnail by tangiegirl
Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

Second hanging basket....the hummers, finches and butterflies have been all over these since I brought them home and *temporarily* hung them up on the back porch as I was emptying the car. I think the "old" fuschia baskets might have to move to the front porch, or go to live under the trees and I'll leave these two new ones on the back porch so I can share my morning coffee and garden breaks with them.

I'll spend a happy hour with them this evening, grooming and deadheading and then decide. Not a bad deal. $12.00 for all.

Thumbnail by tangiegirl
Victoria Harbour, ON

Now I'm really sick Tangie...did that 4' X 5' picture frame and the insert was to host a hanging plant such as yours and Shar's...but no go, late in the season here and can't get anything..took 3rd best and added a few plants but yuk...oh I want your plants..just think how pretty my frame would be...if my frame wasn't cemented in, then perhaps I'd have to send it to you...

Did my garden this morning, keeping dusting till tomorrow, sitting upstairs, not my craft room, and painting my 2nd chair..am hoping to finish it tonight, then I'll have a set...now it's very relaxing painting at my own leisure...nodded off a few times while waiting for paint to dry, but gave myself a kick to get of couch and right back at it...

Don't you just miss everyone on the weekends...either on vacation, computer sick, playing with family etc. Oh I miss you all..but thanks to those who have taken a sec to keep me occupied..lol...

Break is over....haven't done groceries yet..tomorrow a.m. sure hope they are not vegetarians..would think she would have mentioned that if they were...as for allergies to my furry friends, I could seclude them in craft room..guess one should ask these things?

Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

Oh poof Betty, your frame and your basket are beautiful! Although, if I could get them, still alive, to you, I would do so in a heartbeat. Pray tell, on your movie playing system at home? Disc or tape?
I wouldn't give a second thought to allergies or dietary preferences. It's going to be a lovely day for you, I know, and you'll be outside most of the time, anyway. And if someone's craving something to eat you don't have, the little store's right there and the phone, to call for take out, is even closer. You've done enough for today....why not kick back and relax for a few?

Here are the rest of the plants that snuck home with me today......

Thumbnail by tangiegirl
Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

And a close up of the one hibiscus bud that is showing me her color. Any guesses how she'll look open? I tucked a leaf behind her to better show color. I hope she stays dark...I think I'm in love!

Thumbnail by tangiegirl
Victoria Harbour, ON

I purchased 2 hibiscus a few weeks ago, they had beautiful flowers but with the lack of rain we've had these past 2 weeks, they're not their best....You must have mega gardens to look after..how do you do it???
and still purchasing more..lol...

I'm about 1/2 done my chair..doing bits at a time, hopefully I can put it together in the morning and it's one more project - fini!

What I can see of the flowers in your garden, well they are spectacular..for some reason I purchase plants that either bloom in early spring or late fall, must find some for mid-gardening season...

back to work...lol

Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

Yes, it takes a few years to know where the time gaps are in bloom times. My gardens are far from complete and quite a bit less than spectacular, though I hope, one day they will be.

I took a few years off from flower gardening (boring story) and they had to take care of themselves. Survival of the fittest, as it were, or natural selection. Also, I lost a lot of nice plants, what with DH's refusal to let things get their second leaves before deciding they were weeds and executing them on the spot, if I’m not out there with him. This year, he’s not allowed in there at all :- )

Late last summer I started to rebuild on what was left and went at it more intensively this year. So, they have a long way to go. But, I enjoy it, so it's not work at all.

And I have all the time in the world. I don't spend much time on the house. Vacuum a couple times of week, dust far less often. Bath and kitchen I just keep up with on a day-to-day basis so they never get too bad. I don't craft at all and basically spend 95% of my off work time at home.

Lastly, I don't erect gazebos, or cement giant things I've created into the garden, or disassemble, prep and paint gorgeous scenes on chairs and then reassemble them, all by myself. So, who, may I ask, is asking whom where they get the time? :o) You are a dear and a silly goose, too. (BTW I love geese)

Here's Meeks being a silly guy today on the couch during one of our AC breaks.
