Oh drat, Jeannine! I was trying to get on before you checked out. Just wanted to say have a perfect week and come back and tell us all about it. Pictures would be nice, too (hint hint)

Good to know the house and gardens will be in good shape for you when you arrive home. Enjoy!

I'll talk to everyone in the morning. Got a lot done today and I am going to veg out in front of the tv for as long as I can keep my eyes open. Not long at all, I am sure.

Have a good night everyone, and wonder....you have yourself a good day.

Jan

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well good evening all, it's been quite a day..where will I start..oh yes, got the frame up and painted, have a border of green to add as the one I did just isn't wide enough, that will be another day of course...

So now, I'm out digging a 5' area about 4 feet deep for the 4"x4" 's and coming back to the house for materials I notice that the storm last night had broken the gazebo frame, wripped the roof cover in about 6 places and it's yuk..no good...so, I don't get toooo discouraged, there is always more where that came from, it's too nice of a day to panick...

So I decide that the burning pit with rock near the frame art won't do so take the rocks away, with soil I took from the hole I dug for the frame, I filled the burning pit..now I need grass seed and time for it to grow..2 corners now yukked up..lol....but that's ok. because I had already decided to look for metal burning stove to put out back to burn misc. so, all and all it will work out...

Now I have some supplies in my car, remember it's about 2 weeks old, sun is shinning and that metalic gold/orange looks pretty, ah, but what about all those potmarks in the hood and roof and side, guess it was that large hail last night that look like golf balls, guess they were pinging my car...so that will be a trip to the insurance company for sure...

So, I wanted to be at the funeral home for 2pm so it's now 11am and it's time for bath and dressing up when the telephone rings, it's old friends of Roger's who drop by at least 4 times a year when they are travelling through, always check to see how I'm doing..well they had called last week and I had invited them for lunch...of course with all that happened this week I had completely forgotten...so now they say they are on their way, about an hour away, so, out of the tub, dressing quickly, down to IGA for groceries i.e. salads, cold cuts, lasagna tray, strawberries for shortcake etc.

So now they arrived and it's getting late afternoon..I still have to go to car dealership to resign all my papers because of the bonus zero financing they got for me (because I'm a nice lady! lol) so I basically had to tell them I had to leave....got papers signed, went to insurance company and put in claim and then I had an hour before the funeral home opened...

I went over to visit Allan (remember almost sister Irene who passed away in May) and we had a great visit..he's doing ok..was so proud of his housekeeping, and then through the conversation he said he had rugs put in throughout the house, paid a lady to do all the cleaning in the cabinet and then hired someone to clean house and do floors etc. but all and all he was proud of himself..says he's lonely, but that's to be expected...

Now it's time for the 7pm viewing..people are line for almost 1/4 of a mile (no lie and no exaggeration)...as you entered the funeral hall there was a table with a beautiful photo of Jason, and then another shorter table with a frame and a stool with Jason's 'running shoes' and boy does the wording in the frame hit you and bring all the emotion to the surface..not sure of the exact/exact word but it says:

"Do not judge me tooo harshly, unless you've walked a day in my shoes!"
then I stood in the line up and it took 1/2 hr. to the casket..what a handsome young man..the place was filled with friends..can't imagine what this young man was thinking..he was sooooo loved, had hundreds/hundreds of friends, he was just that kind of boy, touched everyone's heart, WHY would he ever think there was no one to talk to or nothing to live for? mind boggling...my boys were there, such handsome men..you think they are on top of the world, but now I'll worry, because if it could happen to someone like Jason then it could happen to anyone....

Then I went to Home Depot, to purchase shrubs for the frame area and it was closed..the flower dept. only so I went to Walmart and was able to get a few things...but I will be up early in the a.m. and there when doors open so I can finish this project...

Then Arthur (friend of the boys who spend the weekend with his family a few weeks ago called from about 300 miles away to say that Canadian Tire chain has the tile saw for slate and ceramic tile on 1/2 price for $79.99 and thought I should rush in to purchase one before they are sold out..so cute...will do though, probably on my way to look for another gazebo...

Now it's bedtime and I'm tired out..so it will be an early night...Greg told me that he has the 'Foxy Lady' at home, rugs are in it now, and the man said the wrap around seat and lounger and two front seats will be ready for installation on Wednesday, BUT, Greg said he'd drop of all the teak wood for me to sand and oil...hmmm, I'm sure he thinks I've nothing on my schedule..lol want them back by Sunday...well there is only Sat. between Fri. night and Sunday - right? hmmmm another busy day...

Will talk in the morning and I'll respond to all your posts..

Thank you for the d-mails and the prayers..is appreciated!

Oh, I'll post a photo of the almost finished project..comments and suggestions appreciated..

betty, another beauty in the work what flowers are you going to plant in your frame,
sending prayers to you and jasons family thank you for the name of the tool
wonder: thats one nice looking bird house you sure have some painting talent
garden girl: have a good vacation
tangie have a good rest

best: dh took me out to eat no cooking
worst: had to go do inventory in another store it took 11 hours to finish the inventory specialists were the most scattered people i ever seen then fight massive traffic
learned: the weeks over and its time to unwind

have a great weekend all liz

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Tang Wow I am jelous of your house. i don`t want to win the donny Osmond contest now, but i did then. I am not that competitive in nature but I do like credit for something I did, if someone else tries to take credit for the idea if it wasn`t theirs. My boss used to do that all the time. grrr..

Herb I am so glad the drugs are keeping you a happy Santa and hope Deb is doing her part too. it is harder to eat good when you don`t feel too good but easy when you feel like crap.

I read and skimimmed but yall wrote too much in a day to catch up on. I got a new job after a year off and i am depressed today so i am going to get off now. It will turn out ok but the pay sucks and i feel like I went backwards to being 20 again.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Nuts, Dawn - sorry you have to go back to work and that you're not too happy about the whole thing.

I haven't posted for awhile because it all would have been "worst things," no "best things" at all. I'm doing a bit better now, thank goodness.

Best thing yesterday: spent time with my youngest daughter and my grandson
Worst thing yesterday: my service engine light came on while I was 60 miles from my house
What I learned: those lights don't necessarily mean anything

Best thing today: I didn't have to work
Worst thing today: it rained most of the day so I couldn't be outside much
What I learned: when I can't be outside, I can clean up my house and do the laundry (not thrilling, but at least my house is semi-tidy now)

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

hellnz, hope your new job gets better

Murmur-in my old minivan the engine light came on a lot-I would open the trunk, maybe check oil, close the hood, and it would go off (my car liked attention). I found some circuit that I disconnected finally to make it stop coming on (lol, probably not a good idea)....really it ran pretty trouble free for another 7 years

Best: Hasn't happened yet, but DD comes home tommorrow after 2 weeks w/ the grandparents

Worst: My cat Alice Cooper got into soomething and has some kind of bacterial infection/abcess. She's gone to the vet and all but doesn't seem happy at all or look good.

What I learned: Don't take the little stuff for granted

Your pictures make me want to be there, Betty.....I could be in every corner of that craft room forever and be happy!

Posted this on Kay/Shar thread yesterday but will post again here....this was my yesterday's project......still not finished, but ran out of upholstery tacks, will get some today and you will see the finished product tomorrow......First....

Old rocker that I picked up at junk place....has hand carved ducks across top back

Thumbnail by Sharran
Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Next, spray painted the whole thing after cleaning and sanding....covered the old cushion padding attached to seat with newspapers.....

color is dark garnet....looks fushcia in sunshine, but is darker

Thumbnail by Sharran
Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Brought it inside and covered the seat with the leather from an old leather coat from the 60's....the coat still fit, but was given to me by an old guy friend whose name i have forgotten, so it might as well be put to a better use. at this point I ran out of upholstery tacks, so will have to wait till I get more sometime today....also will use gold leaf to bring out the ducks on the back....so the next photo after this one will be the finished product...you can watch for it tomorrow.....

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

I love taking old throwaway things and making them into something new and lovely......this chair will match the tables, but not sure where I will use it...have another table to do as well so maybe the two of them will just stay here in my craft/art/tv/whatever room.....
so that was it for yesterday...and that was the Best.

there was no worst, I had a good day....
what I learned, check the number of upholstery tacks on hand before you start a project!!!!!! sure didn't want to make a midnight run to walmart!
You all have a lovely day....it is sunshine and 70 degrees of wonderful here....and only 9:30 a.m......what a day!!!!!
Hugs....shar

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh Shar, it's beautiful..we'd have so much fun together...I headed out to Home Depot this morning for a few shrubs...well this is how my morning went:

Garage Sale #1: had an old leaf kitchen table with 4 chairs...of course it had to come home with me...

Garage Sale #2: a home spa in a box $5.00 imagine..even if it doesn't work I'll have fun playing with it..

Garage Sale #3: a cement solar chinese house..also a must lol/lol

then Home Depot...wouldn't you know it, they must have know that mine was destroyed Thursday night by storm because lo and behold they had one reg. $399.00 for $219.00 another must..but how to get it home...anyway when I did get home called my girlfriend and told her of my bargooooons and she said her husband was at home depot picking up supplies...so a call to his cel, and voila - it's home ready to be put together...

Jeff was here and helped Mike unload it, but he and Greg are off to the funeral..I was going to go, but still feeling dizzy..will have to make appt. at Dr.'s for next week...maybe if I slowed down it might help...not all of that, but I do look for things to keep me away from actual funerals...so that probably was my excuse...I'll drop in on Sue and Fred next week when they need company...

Oh yes, got side tracked, bought 5 shrubs but not so sure it's shrubs and 10 bags of earth..now that I look at it, it probably needs to be a flower garden versus shrubs..wouldn't you know..well, will wait till next week and purchase the required shrubs...

But am having a great day, sunshine, not too hot, I'm getting my tools out in hopes of taking down the old gazebo so that when the boys do get time, they can put it up for me...they just shake their heads!

So off I go until my next break...hope I can muster taking it down..
Have fun all...

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Can't wait to see your purchases. what are you planning for the table and chairs?
also what is a cement chinese solar house....not sure i understand, but anxious to see it all....before and after.
Yep, we would have a good time....but afraid my back would not allow me to do all he digging and cement mixing that you do.....!!!!

i have a gallery reception in a couple hours for the little girl whose work is showing in the gallery this month....need to get ready for that, so enjoy your day.

Pacifica, CA

morning all,

hellenzn, hope your job gets better what type of work is it? are you still having hot weather its cooled down here a lot but the over abundance of fruit is overwhelming we've never seen such bumper crops with this weather.

tropicana, i hope alice is doing better

betty cant wait to see the garage sale finds

sharran, that was a unique chair i have never seen one with the ducks what a find it turned out lovely

best:not to warm today still overcast so i can get a little work in the garden done this morning
worst: dh not feeling good its his bday and the medication made him sick so its going to be a quiet day
learned: talked to cousin this morning my sister is at that rockand roll forem again rekindling a no-where relationship the guy is a complete looser just dont know what to say to her right now without rattling her cage.

everyone have a wonderful day liz

Victoria Harbour, ON

Can't believe it's only 12:13...still full day ahead of me...have a massive headache coming on but I'm tooooo pig headed to stop my projects...had hoped to get the storm torn gazebo down and start putting up the new one..but those boys of mine sure tightened those screws..think that's why I have the headache..that and working in full sun...so taking a break, hving lunch, taking migraine pills and then back out to venture the afternoon...so far - so good!

Thumbnail by Bettypauze

1/2 done...another few hours and it will be gone with the old, and in with the new..lol...

Betty..those corner pieces make a great trellis for roses or Clematis..
I used two corners to make a tower for this climbing rose. The same thing happened to a friend's Gazebo..storm damage..and she gave me the metal corner pieces.
Just what you need..more projects! LOL

This is another way I used a corner. Golden Tangutica clematis growing up this one. It has a small lacy leaf and tiny small yellow bell type blooms..

I have shied away from this thread for a long time now, and I have enjoyed reading your best and worst. But I am troubled by my "worst". The young people who are dying over there is my "worst".
I will not argue one way or the other. I will not argue that one set of political principals outweighs the other.
I will argue, however, that no matter the legitimacy or illegitimacy, young lives are being sacrificed. For good reason, or for not so good reason? I don't know.
What I do know is that the mothers and fathers of those who sacrifice their lives deserve my utmost respect and tears.
I hope that DG doesn't censor my comments. I believe that heartfelt comments should, and must be honored.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I should know better than to look at a picture closer without sending my post..pooofffff it's gone..so here we go again...

Blmbl..thank you for the post...it is indeed "the worse" of each day! I never forget the sacrifice that our servicemen/servicewomen do in order to keep me free and safe...prayers for them and their families..

Starzz..see you are not to far from my area..we've been hit with 3 or 4 storms of late and seems the damage is always in MY yard..could be worse though..those big oak trees sitting in front guarding the house...wow..hate for them to come down...

Shar, by now you probably are in the middle of all those art lovers and enjoying every minute of it, but longing to get home to finish your project..right...I could do the slugging and you could do the finer touches..lol...

I just love what you've done with your gardens and thank you for the trash to treasure idea...will be another excuse for another garden .. lol..
My youngest son was here this morning and saw my hanging plant picture frame and just couldn't figure out why I'd want a frame sitting in the middle of my yard...just has NO garden savey...

Liz, sure hope DH feels better...hope you didn't have a birthday party planned..not nice when you aren't feeling the best...hard to decide what to do when you have a gut feeling re your sister and her issues..if you don't say anything you'll feel bad if she takes the wrong route and if you do say something, she may not agree and get her shankles up..hard call...

Tropicanna..it will be fun having DD back..she'll have so many stories to tell re her advantures...Hope kitty is feeling better...one of mine has a cut over her eye, not sure if it's Riley who is fighting with her or she's encountered a stray..she's in laying on my bed so she must be hurting...

Murmur, so nice to see you post and glad you are feeling a little better..our thoughts have been with you...engine light...mine was on all the time in my old car..they never could find anything wrong, they'd fix something and it would come on again..ran for 2 years with it on..got tired of seing it, so I put a piece of masking take...lol

Dawn, is the job something you'll enjoy doing at least...perhaps there will be room for advancement or if you are over probationary period they may give you a 'mega raise' let's hope...will take a bit of getting used to regular routine...won't take you long though...hubby excited about you taking it?

Tangiegirl..you still resting...lol...hope you enjoyed the quiet evening...

Well, no more sign of the gazebo...just the corner ends that I'll put in storage until I decide where the next project will be that I can make use of them...getting late, time on computer screen is out by a few hours, here I thought I'd have plenty of time to start erecting the gazebo...but not..so, off I go with butcher knife..cut open the box, get instructions and at least read to see what my first step will be in the morning....

Hope you are enjoying your day! Rain or shine!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

At odds with myself today, everyone around here have commitments so no one to help with the gazebo..took everything out of the box..boy do I need all your help...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Now I've managed to put the metal together and the posts, now I need 2 or 3 people to hold these suckers up while I attach the metal sides...just me, almost tempted to stand outside the variety store next door and try to find some bodies..lol..NOT!!!

So, it's probably about an hour's work and it would be done...guess I'll have to tidy up the tools and wait until tomorrow and hope son can drop by...don't you just hate it when you can't do it yourself...

But I've really put in a good days work..proud of myself..so, I have to be patient, but that's something you have probably all guessed, I'M NOT GOOD at being patient!!!

Sure wish you all lived closer..know you'd all be here to help!!!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes for Alice Cooper-she's not happy but I hope she'll be ok ;)
Best:

Y'ALL I was so proud this morning!!!! I started a thread in artisans yesterday about an artist I've just found on the web and become intrigued with. This morning (not there now) my thread was on the front login page of DG in the "today in the forums" section (apparently his art not only caught my attention) . I was so happy I emailed the artist and he sent out a bulletin thanking me, it was so great ;) Here's the link, I'd love for y'all to visit :)
http://davesgarden.com/place/t/750754/#new

DD came home:)

And I had a DG friend come by and we swapped plants, talked, very nice. She taught me how to take cuttings properly...lol....yes I didn't know how :)

Worst: We really are hoping the cat will feel better tommorrow.

What I learned: If you appreciate something, show it.

Wow! Don’t even know where to start. Sharon...absolutely love, love, love the chair. If you can a post a close up of the carving when you're done, I'd love that.

Betty, what can I say? And I thought I had a productive day. But all I did was clean the kitchen, weed the big bed, moved some mulch and raked, then sowed and watered a nice big new seedbed. Yesterday, I finally got all but one flat of sweet william and dahlias out of their pots into their proper places in the beds, watered everybody twice and now DH is making dinner. I'm having two ears of fresh picked corn and I already ate my main course of two BLT sandwiches with a to die for tomato, still warm from the garden. He and DS are having chicken two different ways on the grill, purple and green beans, broccoli and a salad of cukes, tomato and onion. All out of the garden except the onion…..and the chicken.

Liz….good thoughts for your DH and I hope you got and enjoyed your garden time. It was lovely here today, too. Very low 80’s and quite nice.

Oops….I just got started and H says dinner is ready. If I can stay awake long enough, I’ll check back in tonite, if not….first thing in the a.m. I hate missing time here….too much happens!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Tangiegirl..BLT and fresh corn, to die for...my favorites...and I haven't eaten yet, not likely will..thought I might call over to the restaurant and have delivery but don't have energy to do it...so, am off to bed, tomorrow's another day, hoping to get some bodies..then I can rest in that new gazebo..lol..until the next storm...

Night all...

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

man so much happens in aday i cant kep up!
thanks for the pics.

i think everyone thinks at some time of those lost...... but life goes on as well, and various things impact us at different times....those lost are not gone nor forgotten...

Pacifica, CA

morning all,

betty wish we lived closer we'd come over and help you, no dh dosnt like social gathering sort of events family did want to come by buy he was in bed most of the day, he's a little better today but still a grump im keeping my distance i cant wait till all this is over looks like even though he is cured it will be finally over in dec or jan i just have to remember that its the medicine that makes him crabby, so are you going to get help today with the new gazebo you got a lot done yesterday did you get a little rest oh i got the tool i always wondered how they got those dots so perfect lol

thanks tangie,
im so green with envy, were still patiently waiting for tomatoes not going to be a good crop were all complaining how the tomatoes are all on the vines to long going to be tuff
skined corn is looking good almost ready after i read your post blt's sounded so good too well off for coffee then more planting maby a swim if it gets a little warmer then to attempt to finish my ladder project
everyone have a great day liz

Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

Okay...I wake up and now I have to "yell" at Betty.

Betty "You MUST eat."

Of course, after the day you had, I'm not sure how you even crawled into bed, so I understand, but I do still worry. I worry about all of you. My special DG family!

Hope you have a really big, nutritious breakfast and that you have some help with the gazebo. Knowing you though, if no help has shown up by now, you’ve probably already done it yourself. I do know what you mean about not being able to do it all yourself. When my two kids were still young, I tried to haul home and assemble a rather complicated and heavy play set…you know swings, slides, monkey bars, etc. I worked all day in the South Florida sun and got so close but finally had to call for help in the early evening to anchor the behemoth the ground and I was so disappointed. It was my first adventure as a newly single mom and I so wanted to prove I could do anything on my own. Sigh. Oh well, it could have turned out worse. The friend I made the call to has been my DH now for more than twenty years.

Carol, beautiful garden shots. How nice of you to post them. I love clematis and just finished putting six or seven more in along the post and rail fence that separates my yard from the back field beyond. I just hope the established morning glories I planted “The President” and “Nelly Moser” by don’t eat them.

Dawn, truly hope you find a hidden upside to the new job. You never know where one step will lead you.

Wondering how Herbie’s first day back at work went? Hope it wasn’t too hard on you and that you don’t have too tough of a schedule in the coming weeks. Easing into it would be best. I am sure you aren’t 100% yet.

Murmur...good to hear from you. Glad you are doing a bit better. Browsing the bird forum for the first time yesterday and nice to see you over there, too. I only got around to putting up one feeder this spring and just yesterday hung a new basket off the front porch eave so I can watch the little pretties from "my spot" on the living room couch.

Off to get a second cup of coffee and water the new seedbed. I’ll be doing that three or four times a day for the next month. Why, oh why don’t I learn to do things in their own season? Then a nice steamy shower to try and shake this little leftover headache.

Enjoy your Sunday, everyone. I’ll be floating around most of the day so will talk to all later.

Jan

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well my dears....it was off to bed at 10:30...early rise...have washing done, floor upstairs done, sweeping craft room and oh yes, did I forget to say that you were right, top of gazebo put together..probably about 1/2 hr work if I had someone to hold it for me...I've been thinking/thinking and usually about mid-afternoon there are always kids at the variety store..maybe a pop and ice-cream could sway them over to my side...

Son dropped in on motor-cycle - got I hate them and he had to add that it was one of the fastest..that impressed me..anyway, he got a call to go and check out the engine of the "Foxy Lady" before they put all the seats in this week..the mechanic has a few hours today so off he went, with the saying...."Mom, why does it has to be done this second, next week I'll have plenty of time to help...." so I quickly reminded him that where did he think he got where everything must be done 'now'..he just laughed and said toward evening he'd try and come over and at same time go with the truck and pick up table/chairs I purchased at lawn sale yesterday....but, with a bit of luck..it will be done by then..lol...

And yes, I had a coffee and donut this morning..not great, but it's food...so, on Betty's saga of 'living without a man' lol...I'll report back later....

I knew it! You're a brat. Coffee and donuts, my foot. EAT, woman...REAL food!

Off to the shower.....

Pacifica, CA

betty, hope it was a krispy cream dounut at least lol

well dh in better spirts thank god so finished the ladder now off to find something else to do

betty im sure you'll have the gazebo up soon have a good afternoon liz

Cool Liz, really nice idea. I have an old wooden ladder....it just might find itself in a similar position in the near future.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Liz - design is beautiful..bought a drill bit last week to drill holes into cups/saucers but it didn't work well...see you've done some art with dishes, could you tell me what kind of drillbit you use?

Well I'm getting sad, no kids at the variety store to call upon, all neighbors are out and about, and I'm sitting here looking at an unfinished project....oh woh is me...

Just worried that if I leave the gazebo top on the ground and wind comes up tonight or tomorrow, it also will be destroyed...might have to send out an s.o.s.

Just love your creativity Liz...glad DH is doing better...the vision of your artwork is sure to please him!

Pacifica, CA

betty i didnt use a drill i used ge silicone II household glue its at home depot,
oh you should of seen him he rolled his eyes then snickered im still deciding which frying pan im going to use on him lol

he said after his nap he'll go out to investigate and have a real good look its just like a food critic lol well i think im going to mix some concrete and see how much trouble i can get into now wait till he sees the dribbles of blue paint on the side oopps

betty i bet the gang comes over to surprise you later and gets the gazebo up

Victoria Harbour, ON

Getting mightly discouraged, no one to help out..my girlfriend dropped by but we need more than 2...there were about 5 boys next door, asked them if they each wanted to make $5.00 for 10 minutes work..nope, just jelling out with each other..imagine...that's what happens when kids get everything without working for it...

So I'll wait another few hours and if no help then I'd better find a way of securing it so it doesn't get damaged tonight or tomorrow...should have waited I guess....

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

If I were within an hours drive you better believe I would be there...and we would have it up and wonderful in no time.....
I am sorry, I know what it means to have no help. but it will get done, not to worry.
Loved the painted floor coverings....wonderful job. Makes me want to do it too, but I have too much carpeting, except in the kitchen....hmmmm. Next project!!
did finish the rocker, but waiting for my camera to charge before I send a photo.
crossing my fingers that someone will stop by and help you.
