Best Thing/Worse Thing and What did I learn today? Part 10
Welcome Herbie! Glad your knee is doing better. I know you'd still like to stay at home and chat with us online!
OK Hellnzn11, you win the Donny Osmond Biggest Fan Award! My black and white glossies can't hold a candle to your "shrine"! I was an equal opportunity fan back in those days. I had David Cassidy posters (you know, he was singing to ME with "I think I Love You"!), Shaun Cassidy and the Bay City Rollers! Now I'm showing my age! Those were the days! Now I've got pictures of Mike Rowe up on my wall!! Talk about HOT! GRRRRRRRR!
Ok for yesterday....
Best: last class today - YEAH! The instructor was going over sexual reproduction in plants and how meiosis and mitosis works and how pollen grains are produced and I was like "Blah, blah, blah - I don't have to take the test next week" YEEEE! I was giving the guy next to me a hard time cause the stuff she was talking about was just way out there in left field and I kept saying "gosh, it's too bad you have to know all this stuff to take the test next week". I'm bad, I know! Since I'm on vacation, she let me do a research paper instead. I picked the Live Oak.
Worst: No time to play in my garden and no rain again
Learned: It's amazing how ANY plant ever reproduces after listening to the instructor detailing the process.
Don't you all like the new feature Dave has added to these posts..by clicking on your DG name it brings up your info..if you've posted a picture, we can click and see who'se writting the post..nice...
I picked up my graffiti art in a weird random place in town (I'm so funny, not sure how I manage these things, but literally was digging in the mulch in a flower bed at a shopping center at 7am..lol)---and I love it!
Especially from someone I just chatted with briefly to just give it away...quite interesting. And yes, it is Ali ;)
7 a.m. my goodness you were ambitious...lovely, just can't figure out what it's done on?
Tropicanna...it is very artistic...who knows, maybe one day it will be a valuable piece of art...and also, always remember - it's in the eyes of the beholder!
morning all.
your house is from the 1700's??? ooo post a pic or two! how fabulous!
yeah the frames are cute tho. think i will start one today... see how i go.
best thing? got my housework done and some painting.
worst thing? so tired of money woes. it a continual struggle. day before yesterday 3 direct debits came out of my account. it was the day before my small pay went in. the next day the bank hit me with $105 in overdrawn fees taking all i had left. i hadnt even got to buy food or put gas in the car! i rang the bank and the manager refused to speak to me and relayed the message, 'if you dont like it, write a letter'. its a bit depressing you know?
Oh, much more than a little depressing.
wonder, dearest, don't you dare sink into that dark hole, though. You've been so cheerful and happy to be back at your crafting. I hate to see you lose that feeling, even for a little while. If you have food enough in that comfy little home of your's, and a bit to gas the car with....you'll get by just fine.
I do know a bit about that feeling though. Knock wood, we're okay, but H & I are both working part time this summer and it's enough, but an unexpected expense that would normally be a little bump in the road, would be a roadblock at the moment. Just try not fret too much over it. It won't do a bit of good and will just drag you down. Chin up now girl, promise?
Here are a few pics now, and if you promise to try and cheer up, I'll take a few more
of the inside for you tomorrow or Saturday. It's too dark in most of the house by now to take any. We all like very low light here so it's impossible to get a decent pic if it's not daylight.
Lastly, two views from the front porch...looking out the front door and to the left. You'll notice I didn't let them scrape and paint the outside wood bits yet. I had already begun to rebuild the beds around the house that the roofers and window people destroyed last fall and I couldn't bear to begin all over again heading into summer. My reasoning is if it's done in the fall, there'll be less for them to smush. Hopefully!
BEAUTIFUL house Jan!! OMG! I love it!
Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful!
beautiful, tangie....I love old houses, and restored one a few years ago that was built in 1823. I enjoyed it and when we got down to the creeksand plaster which was hidden beneath 11 layers of old wallpaper, we found original paintings on the plaster. Too cool!!
Thanks Jeannine. It's not the easiest house to live in but we are happy here.
I just hope they lift wonder's spirits :o(
Hi tangie,
thankyuo so much for yur encouragement. I will do my best, i promise.
Your house is amazing! you are so lucky. did you move there recently? where were you before?
it looks 3 story, is it?
its just beautiful.
Oops...we crossposted....thanks, Sharon. That must have been very exciting! We have the wide plank floors here and some moron painted them a yucky dark brown...at some point, we'll find out what's under there. Ah well...all in good time.
ETA: Another cross post, with wonder, this time. We've been here ten years. Prior to that, we bought a fixer upper on 3 acres, landscaped and redid the inside and added a large sunroom, bath, three car garage and a huge deck. Then we moved (lol). We lucked out though, and sold it ourselves, in three days, for more than our asking price. They even asked to buy some of our furnishings and all of the outdoor furniture, as well. Beginner's luck, I am sure.

Back because I forgot to answer one of wonder's queries. It's four stories and the top one is a a loft. The first floor, which is my kitchen is built into a bank so that you walk out onto the back porch but at the opposite end of the room the kitchen window over my sink is at ground level.
Alot of our furniture wouldn't fit through the door and very little of it would go up onto the third floor and loft. We had to saw our bed in half and hoist it up and through the wall, after removing the window, frame and all.
Tomorrow, if you like, I'll do a pic of the living room, and after you've seen it, if you don't notice something a bit odd about some of the furniture, I'll point it out for you.
Laura...you read Tangiegirls post 3 or 4 times and whenever you need to..I also see such a great change in you, you are so upbeat, feeling good about yourself...we all go through similar financial times, as long as you have food enough to get you through to next payday, that's fine...make sandwiches, picnic lunches and treat it as a challenge, see how far you can go with what you have...things will get better...don't focus on that bank manager's comments..
Who knows, you might soon be able to sell some of your art work.....
Tangie, love the house..I love everything old...I must be an old spirit because I'm most comfortable with antiques around me...older people around me etc. lol...and the view you have..wow..lucky, lucky lady..love the kitchen as well....
Shar, I've sent you a d-mail with shopping list for that quilted sweater...or maybe one of the older quilts could be cut up..now that would be awesome...
Don't know how long I can stay on the computer as its lightning/thundering and winds are up..when I got home, hydro had been out so who knows if it will go out again...
If you look at my bedroom photo, you will see in front of the fireplace i made for $60.00 that I just purchased a black rod iron candle holder..holds 12 candles, so perhaps I'd better go up and light them...just in case...it would look so romantic..ooops, need someone to be romantic with...gee whizzz...I'll have to put that on my to-do list..lol
just kidding...
Best thing that happened to me today ... someone who had a modular home such as I had dropped in and asked who my contractor was..they want to do the same to theirs..so that was a compliment and my shutters are in and they might get put on early next week..looking forward to that...
Worse thing...had set all my plans in motion this week to have the frame painted to look like a matt and trim and didn't get it done, so thought I would start it tonight, but toooo tired...so it's up at 5am tomorrow to try and get it done...dropped in to 3 stores on the way home to try and buy a large/large planter but no one had any locally so maybe a trip later tomorrow to Barrie (45 miles from here) I might find one...I know that Shar has one but she won't share..and it would look soooo pretty in my frame art...
What did I learn...not sure if it's something I learnt but this morning I stopped for breakfast and at the till was a young man with a child about 2..the father was joking with him, playing with his hair, lifting him up and you could see the twinkle in both their eyes, then I remembered Jason and the tragedy, and I thought, here this man is, the child is everything, who knows what the future lies for them...and I remembered, it's better not knowing...just love your children with no holds barred..and tell them each and every day how much you love them, what they mean to you and no matter what they think they've done or haven't done with their lives, that's it's of no importance..what is important is they are here for you to love...
Have a nice night...am hoping tomorrow night I'll have my work of art in the garden and will be able to post photo...
Looking forward to the photo...this is exciting..now when we talk I can picture where you are...cool..and for those who have pictures on DG I can simply click on your name next to your post and see you..something new I'm told...try it on my name next to this post...
What a great picture of you Betty. You are meant to be hugged, no doubt. Dave has been a busy guy lately. I really like what happens when you click on a thumbnail.
I do love to see and share pics. Not to forget, Betty...you promised more of your's, too.
I think that's a wonderful thing you "learned" today. Bittersweet, surely, but a more valuable lesson, I can't imagine.
Off to bed I go. I'm yawning so much my eyes are watery. Night all....sleep well and sweet dreams.
evening all,
tangie,
what a beautiful home thank you for showing it i love old houses
betty, what is the tool called ,for making dots as wonder posted
wonder, dont get in a rut were all here for you youve come so far dont let them get you down like betty said we all have those times ourselves i had it years ago and picnic items were how we got by for quite sometime i cryed myself to sleep everynight praying for something and in my darkest moments things started to slowly turn around and i could see the end of the tunnel but with that light came many sacrifices to and it made me stronger, so dont give up it will get better.
hellenz, good luck and nice to hear from you
best:boss bought all of us ice cream today for no special reason it was a nice surprise
worst: nothing bad happened today
learned:all the new features on dg prety cool well off to do planting everyone have a wonderful evening
Wonder, don't you just hate some banks! MY DH worked for a BIG bank for years and he would bend over backwards for his customers. I'm sorry you've had to go thru this. God works in mysterious ways and I am a firm believer that He doesn't put anything in front of us that we can't handle. Just keep the faith! You've got your friends here and you will be in our thoughts and prayers.
Here's a picture I took - hope it helps you smile.....
Thanks friends... you all made me feel better.
One foot in front of the other i guess. Im usually resiliant but lately, I dont know. But, as you say, i have so much... just look at my lovely friends here, the best i have ever had! and thats the truth. faithful and loving...
the picture is wonderful... ful of beauty and hope.. thanks
cant wait to see the pics of the house, yours too betty if you get the chance. Im the same, comfortable around old things, things with history, something to teach, a story to tell. There is a life of warmth and ecperience in antiques and such. If only your walls could talk tnagie, what stories yours could tell!
can anyone work out for me the time the chat room is open my time? i keep missing it..... doh!
Morning, well it was quite a storm last night..everything is so quiet out there this morning..as I promised myself...I was up extremely early this morning had the frame painted - front/back waiting for it to dry to I can do the highlights on the trim part..I'll now have my coffee/ get some old glad rags on and start digging a 3' hole out there so I can get someone in the neighborhood to hold it up so I can balance it and cement it in..then another trip to the nursery and that little corner of the yard is ready to make beautiful..maybe a few shrubs will be in order..no wonder I'm always broke lol, nurseries keep pulling me in their doors...
The tool is called 'stylus' you can purchase them in 3 different sizes..tool looks the same but the ends have different sizes...it's primary function is for tracing patterns on, but it does clear concise dots..just clean the ends often so that when the paint dries on the ends while working so the dots don't get enlarged because of the excess
paint...
So, I'm hoping you all have a 'special' day today..I'll be working from home i.e. office till 1, but outside all morning then at one I'll be off to the funeral home...won't stay long as you won't be able to move..I'll take the time after the funeral in weeks to come when everyone has left to visit with them...
So I'll check in from time to time throughout the day to say hi...
Good Morning!
Have y'all seen this new feature on DG? It allows you to manager your friends and groups.
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/748924/
Okay....So, I've been up since 6:30 and all I've managed is to make coffee and harvest the first of my columbine and larkspur seeds and here Betty is....already done with her very large frame. *sigh* I'm a slug.
wonder....glad to hear you sounding a teensy bit better. That's the spirit....one step at a time. You have the friends you deserve, nothing more, nothing less. You sweet thing, you.
Betty....my thoughts will be with you and yours today. I'm officially off 'til Monday and we had a nice rain yesterday. Finally! Guess I should complain about the weather forecasts on here more often. It worked!
A dear DG friend sent me some wonderful seeds and so I am excited about my yellow columbine seed as I have promised her some in return.
I am looking forward to a wonderful day....plan to get the last of the transplants in....but I've said that before, haven't I? Perhaps today, I will actually accomplish it. DH and DS both working today so the pups and I have the place to ourselves. Love the two leggeds in this house to pieces, but oh so glad, for that occasional solitude.
It must be summer because my volunteer cleome are full and blooming their heads off...here is a clump that decided to grow from stone wall that terraces the front porch bed......
ahh nice......such pretty flowers. My orchids are getting ready to bloom and when they do , i will take a pic and show you. not as many flowers this year due to the drought but i will get some.
here is the birdhouse so far... since the last photo i have fitted the door and the clock and mounted it on the base board. next is the picket fence, chickens and maybe a clothes line on the side......
silly but cute...
Love the clock, wonder...perfect color! And yes, please, a clothesline is a must!
Oh My Gosh! Wonder...Your art is so pretty!! I love your birdhouse.
betty, you better believe I would share this planter with you if I could. However the only way would be if you bounced down here in you new little hail pocked sunset orange vehicle and picked it up. Now the problem is that it weighs about 75 pounds and is anchored into the bricks about 8 or 10 feet above ground level....maybe if I stood on your shoulders i could get it down, but then it would take both of us to catch it as it fell and that means I would have to jump down off your shoulders in time to have it crash down on both of us. However, if you want to have the planter, that's the only plan I can come up with, and if you are game, so am I!!!
Took 2 grown men to put it up there......surely 2 half grown women could take it down........Add your 5'1" to my 5'almost 2" and we could do it!!!!
but you are right, sure would be lovely in your garden.
surely you can get those tiered pots there....they have openings all around the sides one above the other but staggered....Next year I will fill it with a vinca vine or something that will trail and won't have to be replanted, because vinca, especially the variegated kind, will last through the winter here. these petunias are pretty, but have to be watered daily, sometmes twice. Vinca is much easier to grow....
So .....are you on your way????
Wow, Sharran, How Beautiful- The plan and The arches.
In the first photo- is that an Elephant Ear plant? Wow your gardens are just wonderful to see.
Judy
thanks Judy...
Nope, don't have any elephant ears this year....in the pot is a rubber tree, but in the lower right you might see some kind of giant hosta that takes over the corner every year. Not sure of its name, but it does get huge. the ivy grows over a frame that is sort of in a turtle shape, and has been there for years, it is a real effort to keep that ivy trimmed and off the bricks.
I would not have the turtle frame, but a friend gave it to me, and so I use it....would prefer a different shape, but it is a conversation starter, so it is fun.
Thanks for the sweet words.....i do love my gardens, and get lots of pleasure withthem.
shar
wonder - and i thought you were just another pretty face but you sure have talent.
shar - is that your house?? i want to see more pictures of it please.
Will see what I can find, Frank.......have more inside photos than outside, though....but will look, just for you.
OK all, I am signing off for a week. Heading out early tomorrow for vacation. Thank God we have a friend staying at the house - I need my plants watered! Priorities!!
I hope you all have a wonderful week. Y'all play nice in the sandbox! ;)
I'll miss chatting!
Cheers All!
Jeannine
