What's blooming today? #5

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Michaela, very nice! I Love that Purple lisianthus!!!! Those are really beautiful, are they hard to grow??
Your orange daylily is "Kwanso" I think. Here, look for yourself and tell me what you think. http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/40824/

Pixie, at first I wasn't certain, but then I scrolled through all the pictures and found one image where the petals are similarly narrow. The fact that everyone keeps referring to Kwanso as invasive is a clear indicator that you probably have nailed it.

I just followed all the DG members suggestions - I ordered the plants from Burpees - 2 different collections (total cost was $72.00 + shipping) recieved 36 plants in total. They arrived in great shape!

I planted them in large planters and put them on the edge of the driveway. Containers without feet sit on bricks. Everyone said they need LOTS of sun, LOTS of water, so, that's what they get. So far, they don't seem to be bothered by too many bugs or diseases.

Even DH loves them - so I will order them again for next spring. I will also collect seeds and try to start some (though its really supposed to be a LOT of work to get germiniation and seedlings.

So, assuming I get some seeds, do you want some - no guarantee that the seed will be viable. :-)

Nice lilies, Dave. I wasn't going to put in any this year until someone (I think it you was) mentioned a Gilbert H. Wild & Son sale. Here are some LA hybrids from them (Parks Super Elfin Paradise impatiens in the background). Daylilies are next year's project. Looking forward to seeing yours.

David - beautiful! Aren't you glad you put them in??

Michaela - that is an amazing lily - if it seeds, save some for me for the next swap! I also love lisianthus, which didn't germinate for me this year. It's real fussy. I think next year I will try to start them in the house.

Al - you are NOT supposed to tell everyone that the pic is from your satellite!!!!!

Victor - the aerial was taken from the heliport.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Which lily, Anita? Do you mean the daylily? If it sets seeds, I'm going to grow all of them - well, maybe I will share a few . . . uh . . . actually, you sent me a lot of seeds to get started. . . Okay, you get lots of seeds too :-)

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Michaela - I like the lisianthus - could never pull the trigger with their cost(yes I buy $15 echinacea like they are candy what's your point)

David - superduper awesome photo there.

Victor - I'll try a few night shots to see how they look.

Looks nice double G.

After a few shots - day or night, everything looks good.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Seandor - towards the end of the season I collect tons of seed.... when they get too leggy and i can't stand them any more I cut them back to a few inches tall and they bloom again in fall.... i always leave some seeds on the plants and let them re-seed themselves for next year

Victor, I sent you a spider email,

Seandor, a lot of exceptional flowers! The lisanthus, lisianthus, and blue rose in particular.
Anita, what a wonderful yard. I like seeing a garden (or in this case a yard) as an alternative to flowers. What a great job you have done.

Did I take a good picture, Al? Must have been a mistake

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Al I really like that Echinops...never grew them before. Did you start them from seed and are they a perennial?

Anita, I think you will be pleased with your choices of Daylilies. Here's "Siloam Ury Winniford" it bloomed for me yesterday.

Al & Pixie, beautious!
Pixie, You had IDed some of my lilies. Last night I went back and checked to find my baja (New favorite) Desert Song, rubies, endless love, latvia, and Grand Cru. I believe you hadalready done most of them.
