The last few years have seen so many new introductions of so many different kinds of plants! Makes plantaholics hyperventilate.
What's blooming today? #5
WOO HOO! Look at all the pretties we have today!!
Where to start....Al, thats some "mini" you have there, I think you've been duped.
Kim, your group shot is lovely and Isolde is what the daily forum people are posting about. Poly's are more frequent it seems than they used to be but still very popular. I personally think they're neat and am always awed when I see one.
Victor, too many to list them all but your Pink Double Delight is delightful! I just recieved "Elizabeth Salter" this spring but it hasn't bloomed yet, so thanks for poting that photo. I am not going to thank you for posting "Milk Chocolate" ...... because im sitting here stuffing my face with a Hershey Bar!
First of all, PIXIE, I could half of your garden with raspberry vinagrette!
Lovely...
Lynda
Pixie...I managed to miss the operative word...EAT!!! Your specimans are delicious!
Finally a day with less humidity! I spent the morning weeding and cutting back some of the more unruly perennials. When I was cutting back the geraniums, who should leap out but the resident rabbit! I guess Spike the Garden Guardian has been slacking off. I should probably walk Andrew around a little bit more to convince the varmit to move off...
Here is a pick of my tiger lily....
Tamberlin
thank you GG....blushing here, never had a compliment like that before!!
GG, your little Iron Cross are so cute. I have the wagon wheel oxalis that is just sending up a bloom spike. I will post a picture of it when it blooms. Would love to see your Iron Cross when it blooms. I have always thought they were so neat. I have a few different oxalis types and I enjoy them all....got my Grandma hooked on them *lol*
Kim
Tamberlin, what a nice Mother's Day gift, the castle is a nice touch. Your Tiger Lily is lovely, asking my-self with all the lilies I own, why I don't have a tiger lily? I guess i'll have to get one for next year!
Kim do you have the lavender/pink oxalis that is a perennial?
Your in Canada Dawn...mine isn't even blooming yet! How'd you luck out? It's one of my favorite perennials.
Which one pixie? The Astilbe? I am not sure what I am doing really but I am just glad things are growing LOL. I guess I inherited my mom's green thumb - although mine isn't nearly as green as hers LOL.
Kim,
Andy P. gave me a little bag of bulb of the "Iron Cross" would be glad to send them along with the Baptista seeds....
Lynda
No, my astilbe is in bloom, but my Veronica isn't. Thats a great shot of the front of your house...like the statue too!
Very nice Dawn, GG and Tamberlin. How big is the pond, Tamb?
Hi Victor,
The pond is VERY small.. maybe 5 feet by 3? The castle is there to provide an escape route for the chipmunks - two have drowned already. Since we put in the castle (the girls picked it out - we seem to have a medieval garden theme going on with Spike and all) no drowned rats....
I really like having it and the neighbor kids are always coming over to check on the fish.
I'm not sure what to do with the water plants come fall/winter. Can I keep them in the garage?
Tamberlin
Should I have the Mauna Loa respond, venu?? She IS hot.
Celeste, a LONG time ago I tried the Oxalis adenophylla outside before I became as educated as I am today *lol* and it died (surprisingly *lol*) It was VERY cute but hard to overwinter here in Maine. Fussy buggers from what I have read about them. That's like Pulsatilla, I would LOVE to get that someday. It looks fairy like but I had like 3 or 4 seeds and couldn't get them to sprout. Do you grow that?
Lynda, sending you a D-Mail :)
Depends on the plants. Are you draining the pond?
Pixie - I'm keeping my eyes open for a little "Loch Ness Monster" that I can put into the pond. From that view, it looks like it should have a beastie in there....
Tamberlin
PS: how far is S. China ME from Wells ME?
I would apprecaite ML to respond in person. Could you arrange that Victor? (You realize you may never see ML in person again??)
Victor - I probably won't drain the pond. It's about 2 feet deep and according to the seller, it will probably freeze to the bottom. Of course, I can leave the fountain on all winter and put a heater in. It might make for good photos if I have a cool looking rim of ice around the fountain.
I have an aquarium for the fish and snails to overwinter in. I'm not sure about the water lettuce and hyacinth. I'll have to do some research....
I don't know venu, she has put down roots here.
Tamb, I think those are tropical and will not overwinter. Leaving it on would make for great pics. I might do that for a while this year since I lost all my koi last year. With them, I had to shut off the pump to allow for temperature 'layers' to form, keeping a warm bottom where they stayed.
Ah, I was not willing to fork out the $$ for koi. We have your basic .12 goldfish from Petco and splurged for one fantail goldfish ($4.99). I don't think my dinky little pond would support koi. The girls are happy with Larry, Moe and Curly....
:)
Tam
I dunno Victor, She may know that a mistress is always better than a master. And ya know NJ vs NY,mmmmmm, okay I'm splitting hairs on that last point
Tam, that would be cutting it close in terms of min depth for koi. Amyway, they get big very fast. I bought mine online - about $6 or $7 each - about 4 inches. In two plus years they were about 15 inches and weighed a few pounds each.
venu, how about a mastress??
Very nice, onew!
