Ok, everyone - here's a Brug update for me! These pics are from the Brug on the left (right one hasn't bloomed yet but I think she will this season). Dr. Seuss, maybe? These were taken yesterday!

Dude! Cool! And we're even off topic! (word is out that an Miss Universe 1973 has her pic posted here! LOL JUST KIDDING!!!) OH MY TL, you'll send me a start of the purty blue one??!!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! Nice pic of you with your friends, too! Nice pics, too Jan! ;) ZZ? Teresa? So, aren't we about ready for at least 1 or 2 bloom pics, TL? I'm trying to be patient, here! I have a few blooms on peach versi, but it does have an issue of needing to be repotted.... I'll tend to that next Spring. I have to have help with that cause it's in a 25 gal tub and a bit more than I can handle by myself. The Maya has "okra" all over it and should be a nice last flush... but my little Alex is taking his own sweet time... he has grown a lot this summer despite having a couple bouts with spider mite... but I grew him in my dining room all winter and I sure thought he'd at least tease me with some buds this year, maybe he's saving them for frost........ which, I have a plan IF that happens; he's still small enough to fit in the diningroom, he may not get a winter rest...
I re-read Amanda's first post and she said the seller said she would get blooms this season...... AND that the season is about over...... look what she did!!!! That's when my brugs want to really flush, it's rather disappointing if we have an early freeze, but I am able to keep them right inside the basement/garage door to move in and out as the temps allow, to try to squeeze more bloom time in at the end of the season... They would live from a frost, but depending how severe, it could knock all growth to dirt level. They would still return from the roots, but he more top growth I can keep alive over winter, the sooner I get blooms in Spring. That's my brug challenge up here on the "north" prairie (actually the flint hills). -Bonnie

Oh, Amanda, I was typing that post for 2 hours this morning..... (darn job gets in my way lol) - It is so pretty! I don't have much experience with Dr. Seuss.....The color changing is Seuss behavior, I believe... maybe ZZ can help... It's very pretty! Wish that scent would hang around for daytime! You have done wonderfully, look at the growth since you started this thread! What a transformation!!

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

WOW! I have been reading this post all morning off and on.... I've gone out pulled some weeds, watered the hibiscus', getting ready to fertilize them and bloom burst the bouganvilleas,

But, as I would leave the computer and do a task my curiousity kept me coming back to this page till I finished reading it. I only came here because my dad gave me a couple (more- cuz I killed them last time)cuttings of his angel trumpet and I was trying to see if these were from a cutting or a seed.

(it's an antique!!) My grandfather brought it from maine 55 years ago and it's been clipped several times) In Maine he kept it very small and indoors. He brought it to Florida and put it in the ground and it is still in front of my grandmas house now. My dad took a good cutting off of it and now I am attempting to take a cutting as well.

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

dangitgirl -

These were rooted cuttings. They were actually barely rooted at all - maybe only been in the ground a few weeks at the most when I received them? They had about 3-4 short roots each. Now though - isn't the transformation incredible? I'm sooooooooooo ecstatic!! This has turned out to be one of the most enjoyable experiences, and it's because of the help that the people here on Daves Garden have given me!

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

I know!!! The peeps here in DavesGarden are most DEF ' the friendliest I have found on the web!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Aw, Amanda, your enthusiasm is contagious! (your DD is precious) That's what we do at DG, encourage and enable! lol
Dangitgirl- how incredibly COOL! 55 years!!!!! and counting! Got any pics??? We'd LOVE to see it!! Please???? I've got them from every which way.... I grew the pink one (pic above) from seed, I've started cuttings and I've just bought them growing in a pot.... They do require more attention from seed or cuttings, but it's ALL worth it ! AND then of course, there is more than 1 way to root cuttings, too.

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

Right well, last time I got roots... planted them and them they died.... I think it was too hot!

I actually go to my dad's house tomorrow! He is getting rid of all his plants!!! Long story short he lives in a manufactured home site (ha ha trailer park) and they are grumbling at him so he is going to spite them!! He's getting rid of a LOT ALOT ALOT of plants! I want his angel trumpet.....
I WANT THAT BRUG!!!! It's HUGE!!!

I want his Datura too!!!!!!! I want it all!! I have to fight my sisters for it though..... grrrr...sisters.....

Nevermind my hair in this pic I was the hairdresser at the wedding and I did not get to do my own!

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

WOW, free plants?! How neat is that! I bet a 55 year old Brug is GINORMOUS!!! Take pics, please!! And which one are you? All are pretty!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Yes, you're ALL beautiful, I can see the family resemblance.. Very pretty dresses, too! Gosh, he's not even keeping the great grandpa brug? How snooty, complaining about a person growing flowers! That's just UNTHINKABLE! I would have to move, no if ands or buts about it. So ALL your sisters like plants? It could be quite a battle for you! lol I have 3 sisters and they like plants, but not like me I LOVE plants..... they aren't dedicated or patient enough. They plant it, maybe water it a couple times and if it comes back the next year, it's a keeper. If not, it doesn't matter to them. The most trouble I've had rooting brugs is over-watering and then of course, the dreaded spider mites....

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

So??? Let them complain? They're just JEALOUS because they don't have places that look as good as his!!!!!!!!!

The thing is this - a lot of people (speaking from my own experience) do not like the lok of a lot of scattered potted plants laying around. I think the reason for that is some people seem to do it in a way where things aren't placed strategically and the pots are basically cracked trash bags, etc. (I have old neighbors who used to be this way). But here's the other thing to that - these people are also the kind who do not have the patience and temperment to be able to deal with the time and effort that goes into keeping even Liriope healthy (believe it or not, my own father is one of these!!), and their yards / pieces of property do not look HALF as good as the one(s) with the potted plants that are so beautiful, especially when in bloom! WHO COULDN'T LIE A BRUG?!?!?!! Potted or not!??! Sounds like they need a small dose of the scopolamine and atropine!!

So my husband and I bought our own house 2 years ago or so and he (foolishly?) let me go crazy with the yard. I wanted EVERYTHING I saw and only had a limited space. So guess what? I'm a potter!!! Ha ha ha! So bring it on, neighbors!!

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok, I found the pic of my daughter I had been looking for! This was taken just before we had her chipped tooth fixed while she was playing in the flowerbeds in the backyard. She thinks she's helping me get the weeds! And she LOVES looking for bugs!! LOL!! Being a mommy is SOOOO MUCH FUN!!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

I'm glad you found that pic! She is so cute out there in the dirt... (lot's of plant-lover potential there, Amanda) From bugs to brugs! I love it when they are sitting on their little haunches like that, so CUTE! And her little Dora the Explora(er) crocs, just as sweet as she can be! Aw, mine are all grown! :( I like being a mommie, too and I got to be home (not work outside the home) with them for at least their first 3 years, it is a time I will treasure forever. Maybe I'll get to be a grandma someday, that would be so nice. Just look at your future little DG'er! Bless you both!

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Sorry it's a funeral you're going home for.... but I hope you have at least 1 bloom when you return. Thanks for letting us know, cuz we're here in the waiting room, impatiently waiting it's arrival.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

You are a good son, TL. Your mom will appreciate your support during this sad time.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Eeeeeeeeeeeek! Really? Tendrils?? That would be SO nice for them to wait until you return. Thank you for checking in with their progress! Now we have to wait until Mon for the next update :( Don't you have a friend that could snap a quick photo tomorrow evening??? LOL!! Just kidding, TL... we'll just have to wait, sorry you can't be there to watch their progression but, you won't miss too much. It was 56 degrees this afternoon! Had to put on my "red hooded sweat shirt". I planted 7 or 8 hosta and trimmed some spireas... I had help with the digging for the hosta.. Oh, also potted up a couple pots of hardy begonia for the Central Midwest RU next month...I feel like I got something accomplished today. Just got 4 new tropical hibiscus yesterday so I took time to purr over them, of course!

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

lol... the way they are growing, i wouldn't worry about the getting out too fast! yeah i wish i had a friend that could take a pic, but theyt ae all out of the way of my house! sigh

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Aw, TL you'll be back before you know it... and I bet you'll be surprised how much they will have grown.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

With the weather cooling off, it takes sooo much looonger for buds to open. You've got that in your favor.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Yes, that is right, ZZ. My Maya is covered with buds, I'm hoping she has enough time to show off on the deck, NOT in the basement. We've had a few night temps into the 40's, and yesterday was only 56 for the high, (I wanted to put blankets and Christmas lights on everything-lol) but it's supposed to warm up into the 80's for day and 60-65 nights next week, so that will help everything with it's last HOO-RAH for the season.....

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

So I got the Angel Trumpet...... But it looks VERY sad........

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

My dad has been vvery sick and his garden has been taking a serious beating....maybe I can help it out.... Maybe it won't die on me.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

OMG! Wonderful! How much root ball did you get with it? You may want to trim some of the growth, it will reward you well.... If you got a good portion of the roots, it should be okay. If not, you need to trim the growth so the roots can keep up with it... I'm procrastinating again on my home tasks, but if you're online we can discuss it.. It's just beautiful, to me.. it looks so nice how you did it with the mulch and all. I wouldn't feed it quite yet, wait until it gets a few more leaves and is adjusted to it's new home.... if you have some super-thrive or something similiar (messenger?) I'd give some of that to munch on..

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

Yup I superthrived it!! It has some rather dry branches and it is taller than me. My dad used to trim it often and now it needs some tlc.... I put it in a spot where it catches mostly second part of the days sun.

I got ALL of the root ball.... Only 2 of the biggest roots were broken..... It was quite a HUGE rootball..... about 2 foot around.
t was in blistering full 9b/10a sun so it definately was taking a beating! The plant it was next to dies this year and so it was catching too much full sun.

I'll carry on with the pictures....maybe I'll get a flower!!!!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Oh, yes, I love pictures! Thank you! Sounds like you're a good adoptive brug mom! I just love the story behind it.. but then I'm sentimental like that! Great job on it all! I bet you'll have blooms before you know it. Once it start shooting out some new growth I'd ease into a regular feeding schedule... (can't wait for your next pics!) You deserve a rest!

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

That is SUPER NEAT!!!!! I can't wait to see that one in bloom!!

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

Okay so I have clipped off and frizzled ends and even cut it back again. Get this, before I trimmed it back it was over 6 feet wide!! I'll see if my parents have any pics of it in full bloom..... I wonder....

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

It will reward you for the trim, prolly get over 6 ft wide before you know it. Frizzled ends? Did you mean you snipped off the dried out limb tips?
