I think I'm going to lose my Brugs! What am I doing wrong?

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Phew! Good no breakage. Maybe use old panty hose leg to keep it secured, it stretches and will offer room for growth.

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!!! That and duct tape!! Well, at least people won't see it until it's more secured, right? ;) I'm going to do it!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Amanda, you are quite frisky around DG, today. Probably feeling pretty good about the garage hib. lol

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Ha ha, YOU KNOW IT, AuntB!!!!! ;)

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

ugh my "okras" are NOT growing! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! how long will i have to wait!?!?

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

Die Hard, I'd estimate about 14 years! :-)

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

aaaah! that is 7/8 of my life so far! :-@

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

LOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

ima have night mares!.. gud nite y'all its 12:40 and ig2g to bed! just finished my homework! school is just wonderful aint it?

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

They ARE growing, they will be here before you know it! Amanda, how's the "leaner" doing today?

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Doing fantabulous, AuntB! It's looking great and more blooms are pushing out, although not fully visible yet. I can't wait until it's loaded! Removing the stake for the day when it bent over didn't hurt it at all, probably because I tied it back to the stake that afternoon. I think someone said on here it takes a season for it's trunk to turn woody, so no stakes next year!

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

here's mine so far
can anyone tell what kind it is so far?

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Ooooh pretty! Yeah, I just can't wait until mine sends out the flush of blooms, can you?! :) This is SOOOOOO EXCITING!!!!

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

nope sure can't! you get excited so easily! (not a bad thing at all) it seems like you are a little ball of happy, excited energy... like rainbows and butterflies and fuzzy little bunnies. WOW that sounded so homo coming fom a 16 yr old boy! (I'm not... trust me!)

Ha ha ha ha ha ha, well I guess I do, don't I? I shrieked out loud when I saw my very first Brug bud and my hubby just looked at me in shock and said, "I wish you'd get that excited about seeing me!" Of course he was only joking, but it was kind of funny. :)

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

roflol hahahaha WOW! only cool people like us plant lovers can do stuff like that right? those "normal" boring people just don't know how exciting plants make life for us!

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

OMG Amanda I love it.... that's how I was last year.. LOL I manage an 85 unit complex and I stopped people coming in off the street to see my blooms.. I put the plant on the front porch and "herded" people in to see her! LOL No one could pass by my house safely. I called everyone I knew.. It was so fun..

And my first double seedling? I cried like a baby when I first got fragrance..

The great thing is.. I still have it.. it's just a bit more "mellow" as to not scare the neighbors! DG is my sanctuary..

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Ha ha ha, you guys are cracking me up!! But it's SOOO TRUE!! ZZ - I feel like that already. I've yanked my neighbors into my backyard to see my blooms, no matter how reluctant they were, I just knew they'd never regret the visit!! :) Ha ha ha ha, no wonder they run from me now!! ;)

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

my neighbors are snowbirds so i cant get them in my yard while it its blooming... i only got yall and my family and whoever is over at my house at the time...

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Well that's fine because you know we all love the pics as much as you!!

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

yep! they are just missin out! too bad for them

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL My neighbors just smile and keep walking.. LOL

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok guys - I found weird stuff on another bloom today!! There are lots of tiny bright orange ant-looking creatures with black legs running all over the new bloom and around that area of my Brug. What are these?! Here's a humid pic ...

The whole Brug today

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Hi Amanda! Your brug looks so good! About the creepy crawlies..... I don't know what they are, but they don't look very sociable.... I'd get out my peroxide concoction and blast em'. (1 part hydrogen peroxide, 3 parts water, 1-2 drops dish soap-NOT antibacterial) Did you look in the bug files? I don't visit there very often, not sure if you can search by body part color or what...

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks, AuntB!! Hey, I was also going to ask - can I use Orthene on these?

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Orthene...... ? Ortho product...... Liquid? What's the bottle say to use it on? I'm always afraid to use something new on my brugs and hibs. I've used Bayer's systemic Rose care, I like organic, but can't always go that route...... my grandma would have picked them off with her bare fingers and squished them under her little tenny runners... ewe! I can't touch stuff like that bare fingered and I HATE the squishing part. They are talking about them (black legged red ants) being beneficial over on the Hibiscus forum......

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, it's a liquid. I've used it on my Hibs to get rid of the thrips, and it worked wonders!! I believe it's a small amount, like 2-3 tsp. of solution to 1 gallon of water, something like that. But I just used what it suggested with 1.5 gallons of water, and it worked fine on my Hibs. Not sure on the Brugs ... ?

They're talking about my ant-looking things being beneficial? They aren't red at all though - BRIGHT orange! :) ??

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

It's on your thread dated 9-7-07... you posted a pic of the varment over there.... Shoot, didn't copy the link... some sweet person over there posted a link for the bug files...

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh yeah, that was an even different bug, the Assassin bug. Same color, so it's weird. But these are tiny little things with pokey-looking thorns on their backs. I posted the thread in the Bug ID forums like you suggested and here's what I got:

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/769877/

Which also references http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/650198/, and these are my bugs!! :(

So I went out and sprayed Ortho (not Orthene - I must've left my brain on the pillow this morning) on the Brugs and these Leaf-footed Stinkbug Nymphs were dropping like flies. Let's hope I got them all!! I guess I'll repeat the treatment in 5 days or so.

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

We oughta change the name of this thread to "The Life of a Brug!"

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

lol i have never had problems with bugs like those, and i have had them on dome plants before.... they dont look to me like a gobble-up-your-plants bug but more like eat-the-bugs-that-gobble-up-your-plants bug... just my opinion

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Those are some ugly creatures, good or bad! As the Brug Turns, Days of our Brugs, One Brug to Live, Love is a many Splendored Brug.... Amanda, I thought OrthO had a product called Orthene, well, guess they could have.... OR should have... Orthene- for all your Brug Bug ailments-20% off while supplies last...

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Okay, diehrd, what's a "dome plant"? How was school today? Get any weather over the weekend?

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)
