I think I'm going to lose my Brugs! What am I doing wrong?
Ooooooh Daisy - the second one is my absolute FAVORITE!!
hmmm i think that makes my "i gotta get it" list
I will have cuttings soon, our weather is cooling fast! Maybe someone would like to trade cuttings?? I would like any, as my collection consists of two!
the pelletized chicken poop was bought at a country hardware store. It became popular again when everyone found out that the Gaia Herb Company here used it. The makers of Black Kow also make Black Hen, which is pelletized chicken poop, not composted like Black Kow. But it is hard to find. You might be able to talk a local garden center or hardware store into carrying it, but the big box stores don't have it around here.
I take it CG is a bright peach, am I right? I would like some cuttings, especially below the Y. I have limited sun and need for them to be tall. I have Solid Gold, which is really orange, Amber rose, Satin Rose, Tequila Sunrise. If you want to make a deal, please D-mail me.
This pic is a row of other brugs I am growing. They do not have as many blooms as the first one I posted because they get less sun.
Daisy that pic should go in the Photo contest -

Amanda, just look at what you've done! Gosh, it's been almost 3 months! They really responded to your TLC. Beautiful! You could wait a while to move the philo... (I just won't let up will I?) I think by next summer you will HAVE to move it, cause the brugs will need the space! And THAT's a good thing! I've so enjoyed the thread you started and there's probably a lot of helpful info contained within...and a lot of silly fun, too! (edging up on 500 posts!) Wow!
Yes I agree - gorgeous photo of the blooms, woodspirit!!
AuntB - you're cracking me up. I think this time of the year will be the best fo the Philo to be transplanted. It's got 5 new leaves and is sending out new roots from the top so it should do fine.
BTW - how do you guys see how many people view this and how many posts are made?
I really hope that when someone else comes along looking for information on how to grow their Brugs, they'll see this and all of this information will help them. You can do it if I can!!
go to the beginning of the thread.... Top right across from the forum name on the left. It is a fine time to move the philo, Amanda... but if you don't have time or help...... early spring would be okay, too. Personally, and seriously, I'd try to move it now while it's cooler and it is wanting to grow... it'll be easier for it to adjust.
IOh ok, wow, thanks AuntB!! Ok, I'll post success pics asap!
I think you're going to love how your brugs will draw attention to themselves without the philo there.
Hey Amanda....
How's about "starting" a new (...continuation...) of this thread....title could be "Amanda's Brug's---Part 2"????
Just "ME"...Jan
Ha ha yes - good idea.
Hi Jan! We missed you here! I want her to get to 500 replies, first! lol, wonder if they (DGadmin) keep track of stuff like that... if we keep going, they may MAKE her start a continum. Hope things are great with you. I'm just groovin' with the mild weather we're having..... still haven't whacked or hauled anything to the basement... 3 brugs are almost ready to flush and the hibiscus are blooming so pretty. I have been fighting white flies, but I hope to see NONE tonight..
If you do, Amanda, please post a link back to this thread, we can refer other "bruggers" to it for info...
Ok - I will! :) Not doing it yet - I'm going to wait until there's something really interesting to post ... like lots of new growth or blooms. :)
AuntB
Thanks for the photo contest tip---I did enter my CG picture! Wish me luck!
Amanda, this is a great thread!
Sharon
Best of Luck, Sharon. It is sure to win! It's perfect!
Thank you so much!
We are almost to 500 posts, this is quite an interesting thread!

Hey AuntB!!! My NOID white brug is starting on it's 2nd round of bloom buds...YES!!! My backyard Tropical Garden is really awesome...the red castor bean plants are 7' high and full of the red "flower" seed pods(!!!), my Richard Wallace cannas (yellow flowers) are 6' tall and still blooming and the brug is 5' tall (counting the pot it's in)! I'm already doing some planning for next year as I want more "LOOK AT ME" brilliance back there. It's neat to see cars stop and/or slow down, in the alley, so that they can look at the garden. My purple dat blooms are finally opening---so far it looks like it's a double and the purple-tinged leaves are HUGE!!! I am going to put the dat in the basement to (hopefully) overwinter and then next year it's going to find a place in the TG. I need to get something tall and ORANGE back there now...any suggestions??? I need to get some tall, green EE's back there too. Oh, and, of course, need some colorful brugs back there, too...HINT! HINT!! Right now I have some "black walking EE's" in there but they're not very tall and are getting "lost" with everything else towering over them.
Well, am at work---so should make an effort to get some work done.....I guess?!
Just "ME"...Jan
(...."HI" to everyone else too!!!!!!!!!!!!!....HAPPY FRIDAY>YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Jan, don't put too much effort into it (work), it IS Friday! lol Your yard sounds beautiful and it's so rewarding when you get gawkers, I'm a gawker myself and often thought of having and "Open Garden or Yard" day to invite anyone around back to see what they can't see from the street. Orange and tall.... hmmmmm... something like this?
HEE...HEE...AuntB...you got the "...HINT....HINT..."...LOL!!! Yeah, that sure would add to the Tropical Garden...I know, you'll remember "ME" when you do your cuttings........RIGHT?!?! Hope that I'm not being too brash and or begging/groveling/nagging....nope, not "ME".......I don't "nag"...(just don't let my hubby read this!!!!!!!). Speaking of the DH, he finally is admitting that the TG is "nice" but (still) NAGS me re: the "weeds"...then I just rolls mah eyez at him......notice the BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS not the !@#%^&.....geez...where'd he learn to nag like that?
"ME"
...and, one of these days......I will post some pictures, just have to figure out the computer set-up again. Since my son replaced the hard drive, and updated our puter at home ,we are true pc geeks in as that we have to re-learn everything and, if that isn't "bad" enuff, we still have "dial-up" service---UGH!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I might try some dats again next year. I think they are considered an annual, Jan... not sure what they'll do if you winter over inside... If you keep the spent blooms picked off and keep it from going to seed, it might be okay.... usually once an annual goes to seed, it's completed it's life cycle and dies.... might try it tho. Orange and tall....nothing comes to mind besides the Peach versi brug... I haven't forgotten you.... our weather has been just perfect and I have 3 brugs, including the PV ready to reward me with their biggest flushes, this season... if you continue being patient ;), your package will be bigger.... but I'm anxiously waiting for them to wow me. The cutting season is almost here and even if we aren't forecast for frost, I will start the ritual before the end of October.... I don't want to be out there with flashlights lugging and whacking in the dark cause I waited too long. Usually by now, they are all whacked and on winter vacation.... so I hope to see what I rarely get to see (except for Maya)- huge flushes- I've worked for all season.. It's really very exciting! (like a child about to open the candy jar!) lol (I'm so easily entertained!) Oh, how about a nanner? It's more maroon, but I had fun with it one year.
I think the nanner is a Zebrina.... picked it up at the grocery store one year.... Looking forward to your pics.. I've got you right up there in the top of my list, Jan.
it is very hard to load this thread as a lot of the DGers don't have DSL, just dial-up. So can we make a link to another thread? someone, please?
Yep - will do that very shortly this evening. :)
Not quite, Elaine - 468 counting this post, Woodspirit, NOW I understand why they start new threads with the link posted to the original. duh! I'm sure Amanda will (or maybe has) started a new one, I'll go look..
Not yet ... I will later today, I'm about to go to drama team practice. :)
tap,tap, tap, tap........waiting
dangitgirl! I honestly was wondering how your precious brug was doing.. I was reading over some of this fun thread and missed seeing a recent update pic. It is looking marvelous! Will it grow all winter down there, what's your lowest temp?
Just wanted to add, Amanda, we really need to start a fresh thread. My son's new Super Duper Lap Top for college (he's majoring in Computer Engineering) is revving up and fans started coming on when I entered this thread, it was a pretty expensive one and I have DSL. but we are easing up to 500 posts, but if people on dial up are having trouble having fun with us here..... ? Please label the Subject exactly the same with "part 2" added? It's been fun conversing and learning and everyone who has ever grown brugs can relate to your subject.... I know I've thought it more than a dozen times... "I think I'm going to lose this brug!!!!! What am I doing wrong???" So naturally, daver brug lovers are drawn in to see.... Have a great day everyone, it's a glorious flush on P.Versi, I'm in a trance about, and the smell last night..................my favorite scented brug I have....so far! lol (it's been a very warm fall, usually by now my brugs have been clipped and stripped and are in the basement, so I'm seeing 3rd and 4th flushes that I've never seen before!)
:0)
after this one only 24 more posts!
Continuation thread is now posted at http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/778032/
