It is funny how they have that herbal -soapy scent when they first open up (and by day), then transform into something from heaven. I so disappointed when I smelled my first one - couldn't figure what all the hubbub was about... Then the next night...WOW! I just couldn't get my fill of it.

I think we'll hear you sighing all the way up here!

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

DONT GET ME SO EXCITED! I WONT BE ABLE TO DO MY HOMEWORK! lol laugh laugh chuckle snort!

AUNTB!!!!!!!!! YOU'RE MISSING IT!!!!!AND YOU'RE THE ONE THAT ASKS FOR THE PICS! lol AND AMANDA AND ALL Y'ALL!!!!! HURRY UP!!!!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

I'm lookin', I'm lookin'! Oh, my!! YES!!! They are sexy blooms! And INCREDIBLY beautiful! I love the pink, too! That is funny about the smell. I got busy outside and finally called it quits for the day, I wanted to check in sooner, but then I would have been at the puter wayyy too long...lol. I am so amazed at YOUR patience! It is really very lovely, TL... and for a LONG 3 year wait, they will be very short lived - but you get to enjoy them while they're good. I think it will bloom for you every year, now that it knows what it's all about! GOOD WORK, TL! (since they are pink, I'm still thinking they are Insignis, maybe someone will recognize it.)

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

i no! it great! but the 2 that bloomed yesterday dont have much smell. only the new one that is still white smells like that soap. will they get more smelly as it blooms more?

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

ROFL, You guys!!! Ha! Well sorry - it's been a HECTIC WEEKEND, for sure! ;) LOVE THE PICS!!! I'll post some of my own tomorrow, PROMISE!! :)

(Jan) So Milw, WI(Zone 5b)

Morning!!!

NIce blooms TL!!! I had a little flush on mine but seeing as that it's still so small I had to be content---the other side of the "V" shaped plant hasn't set blooms yet :( When I take the plant in for the winter (ugh!) I'm going to do "surgery" and then I'll have two standards!!!

I have a purple datura that is huge---the leaves are bigger than my hand and now I'm seeing the bloom buds forming...I started it from seed late spring so I'm going to just pull the pot out of the garden and overwinter indoors so next year it'll be even bigger (like a tree!!!).

AuntB, I'm so excited that you're going to share some cuttings with me...especially of your Maya!

Amanda...did you get your package yet???

BBS,
Jan

I'm not sure TL, I think it has a lot to do with temps... Maya's last bloom flush was not as big as the one she has going now... and it had more intense smell than this time. It's LOADED now, but the temps have been cooler overnight and the days have been about 15-20 degrees cooler than than when she flushed last time... All varieties smell different, too... (I can't post any new pics, forgot my camera at home, drats!) My wknd was hectic too, Amanda, I did some some plant stuff done, but I ALWAYS could use an extra day!

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

I have a pic but no blooms in it! This is my Brug after I cut it back

Hi Jan, I wondered if you were around when I sent that last post... I said "some some" plant stuff done, what kind of language is that???? (my last post) It's Monday......... won't be long and I'll be getting them all ready for their long winter's "nap". Oh, stop sending Amanda stuff, she doesn't have any room left ;) tehehehehehe

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Oh, I like the shape, Dangitgirl.. lots of room for those pendulous pretties! It's going to make a spectacle of itself!

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Jan - I didn't get anything yet. Keeping my eyes peeled though!!

AuntB - I know what you mean - GRR!! I STILL didn't get ANY pics of our Brug this morning!! I know, I know - KILL ME NOW!! :) My brother owns a company in Louisiana and he's been very irresponsible and hasn't been showing up for work. So his employees have been calling my husband about it (he was my brother's assistant manager for the last year or so until he couldn't take being away from us during the week anymore) and he might have to head up to LA to make sure that the employees get to work. Grrrr - family!

Oh, and by the way - I WILL MAKE ROOM!!! ROFL!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

ha ha ha, I know you WILL, Amanda :) My boss own a barge terminal in Baton Rouge. Wonder if I can go down there and "work" ;)

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Ha, AuntB - why can I imagine that place filled with hibiscus and Brugs if you were there? :) In fact, I've been thinking about doing that here at my office. Never have grown much indoors - but I might start!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

I have plants here at work, a croton, 2 philos (big ones), scheffalera, mother of thousands, dracenia, cardboard palm, sago palm and I've even brought in colocasia to grow out over winter and a bat plant.... I hesitate to bring in brugs or hibiscus, because of the potential for mites, etc... but seems I just keep slowly bringing other stuff to work... (cause I HAVE to have enough room in my basement at home for the brugs & hibs) I mean, I DON'T want my boss complaining about the plants or the bugs they can bring in,... we do occasionally put up with fungus gnats in here, (not sure if they know I'M the one bringing them in) but I just drop a piece of mosquito dunk in the watering cans and that kills the gnat larva and then we get all adult ones slapped between our hands, eventually... But in Baton Rouge, he owns the whole place, land and all, I could LANDSCAPE it ;) with brugs, hibs AND ee's! It could be my little "corner" (term used loosely), on his property....... down by the river!

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

So hibiscus can get mites in an office? Wouldn't you just treat it with Ortho or something like outside? Or would that be bad? (I really don't know.)

Oh nice! That's where my brother's business is, too, in BR. He won't haev it much longerif he's not reliable though.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Hibs can get mites, anywhere. I would be bringing them in from outside and although I have a winter anti-pest program, before they even come in, sometimes you get an out-break... I don't want to be spraying stuff, the smell would bring their attention to how many plants I have in here.... (and I don't want them to hear my whining and crying - more attention)

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Ha ha - good point! Well maybe I shouldn't do office plants then .... hummmmmmmmmm ...

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

(tooooshay, AuntB!) Amanda! I know MY limitations, young lady! LOL The philos are about 4ft tall X 6 ft wide- that would leave no room for walking in my livingroom.... they are soo happy here at work with me.. (no plants at work.... humpth! :)

(Jan) So Milw, WI(Zone 5b)

dangitgirl: Wow!!! Lottsa "Y" action on that brug---fer shore you're gonna have blooms and more blooms!

Amanda: Drat...I hope that the P.O. didn't do something to your package cause I dropped it in the mail Tuesday (the 18th) and know that I had enuff postage on it (weighed it on scale at work...). I should've just sent it priority when I went to the P.O. to mail packages...Gov keeps raising the rates but service gets worse---GRRR!!!

AuntB: Oh yeah, I'm here. I don't post on the weekends cause we're usually at our camper. We go every weekend (99.9% of them...). The season ends Oct. 27th so I should be around more after then! I brought my tropicals back, a couple of weekends ago, from my gardens there because we've already had frost warnings. One weekend we had the A/C going one day --- the next day we had to turn the heat on!!!

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Ha, NO AuntB - I didn't mean that!! I just meant that I didn't know if I could get away with praying chemicals and I definitely couldn't get away with letting critters get in. I share a room with 2 other coworkers. :) Sorry, I didn't mean that your having plants in your office was in any way undesireable! I just wish I could do it ...

Jan - I got the package today. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe you sent all of those seeds!!!!!! THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!! YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! I can't wait for germination!!! And I konw what you mean - the PO is SUPER high now.

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)
