The Best Thing/Worse Thing and What did I learn Today..Pt 9

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Thanks Trop! I'll have to pass on the hand-me-down boyfriend. I went for intelligence too! ;-) But I wouldn't trade him for nothing! Growing up, I always said I wanted a husband like my father - a man that came home each night after work and "took the trash out". I don't know why I picked that household chore but my Dad did it like clockwork. My parents just celebrated their 51st anniversary 2 weeks ago so I think my DS and I have a great example to follow. DH made a deal with my Dad on our wedding day. He's "renting" me for 50 years and my dad said if he's still around after we've been married 50 years, he will gladly take me back!! Each year on our anniversary, my DH reminds my Dad about this deal. He says "Mr A, I've got 36 more years on this rental" and my Dad goes right along. It's so nice to be loved!!

So, I shared my writing ability today and since everyone has shared their needlework, I figured that was next on my list so here are 3 cross stitch pictures I have completed but sadly cannot afford (I can but it's not a priority) to get them framed. The last picture is of the three Kaleidoscope quilt squares I've sewed.

Picture #2 (I stupidly worked this one on the fabric the wrong way so I will have fun framing it when the time comes)

Ok I think 12 and 4 are kind of in the same category but more specific. I like that, all of it and about that order. I liked the stories and it made me think of some crazy camping nightmares too. I now like to go to one place to camp and it is a town called Carpenteria, near Santa Barbara, it has pizza places that deliver to your site, there is a taco stand and dairy queen type place within 75 yards of the site, you can go dancing if you want to in the night , there are 2 grocery stores within a short 2 minutes drive from the camp site, we have the blow dryers and all the home comforts, blow up furniture and the hot shower warmer too. that is my kind of camping. lol I saw people last time in the RV sites with area rugs and ferns and bouganvillas on a mini trellis and tv on in several. Beat me.

Okay ... I never have any pictures to post so here's a picture of my pickings from my garden today.

fabuous stroies, great gardening, crafts and all sorts... i need a nap....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sorry all, not sure what's happening, just very tired, guess who fell asleep again last night....rain and winds on way home-storm during the night - ground sopping with water but that's ok..Kyle and I played our bingo until 9:00 and then off into dreamland I went...

Best thing that happened...dropped into post office and had a cheque for $199.87 - rebate from hydro company so that was a surprise...

Worse thing ... the fingernail I had dropped a rock on last month was starting to come off, neighbor brought over a few plants when she saw me drive in...changed clothing quickly before the rain started again and got it caught..pulled 3/4 of it off..wow did that hurt...

What did I learn...that I have a lot of DG friends who are soooo talented...imagine, writters/painters/gardeners...just down and out good people...what fun...

Well hair looks like a birds nest today..I must have been restless all night sooo I'm off to make myself presentable and off to the city...I'll make my hello's to each of you while I have my coffee in the office...quite the job I have..lol

Ijamsville, MD(Zone 6b)

Dawn, that is my kind of campground. Araness and I would be more than happy to camp there in our 37' motorhome. LOL

IO1 - the little green jealousy monsters are popping up looking at your tomatoes. I see an Aunt Ruby's German Green in there which kills me since I accidently gave all mine away. Never did find any more to buy, not even from online.

Yesterday Best: After some rough negotiations (not) I am the proud owner of Sharon's "Plant People" painting http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3703451 every time I look at it I can't wait until it gets here! LOVE IT. Thank you Sharon for sharing part of yourself. It has more meaning knowing who it came from and the far reaching connections Daves Garden has brought into my life.

Worst - too tired and going to bed without cleaning up the kitchen, maybe that qualifies for today already.

Learned - to clean up the kitchen no matter what. I say I learned that but not really. I will still do it again someday.

Pacifica, CA

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Ahhhhhhhh, bluekat, I am glad it is going to someone who will love it. Also makes me feel good that it is going to a friend, since it is one of my favorites.
101, your veggies are wonderful!

camping, nope, not for me......picnics OK, but no camping.

Loved reading all your stories, and Betty I hope your day is great with no storms and no finger pain.

I am off to the doctor.....Kim, your plant people are on their way......enjoy!

Morning all...it's a dark gloomy day here today, the only positive thing I can say about that is that perhaps all the bad weather will be behind us and it will be 'sunshine'sunshine' all weekend long...

Bought a crossword puzzle book and interpreting your dreams book in order to try and fill in the day...almost done the hand knitting for the quilted sweater for Shar..will take the cuffs home tonight and tomorrow I'll put them on the knitting machine and then off to Kentucky with the pattern they go.....sooo hopefully the day will pass quickly...some days are like 5 all rolled up into one....

Laura, posted a parcel for your birthday...DO NOT go and purchases brushes!!! I'll be so excited to see what your first project will be...can't quite understand what the bingo boxes are..you'll have to share photo's...not sure, but I think 'Seedtosser1' Judy's birthday is same day..my DH's birthday would have been on the 18th..he'd be 64..bet he would have been so handsome with white hair? hmmmm...

Shar..good luck at the Doctor's...are you all ready for Ethan's birthday party..what wonderful and exciting things do you have planned???? Know how creative you are, am sure it will be the best birthday ever....

Liz...Home Depot here I come..want to pick up the 2nd Muskoka chair so I can paint and have a lovely set..want to put them on front lawn but everyone says they'd be toooo easy to pick up...storry/storry...girlfriend Ann who has a cottage down the road painted a beautiful Georgian Bay scene on a garbage bin at the end of her drive..well, it was large object pick up a few weeks ago, so she cleaned all the junk from the cottage, put it at the roadside as required...got back up north only to find all the junk was gone and so was her newly hand painted 'garbage box'...how upsetting....so, I usually say, if someone takes something they need it more than I..but, don't know if I want them to have the opportunity..lol Liz, do you have a 'granny' living with you? How exciting, getting house painted..one thing lead to another though, before you know it, you'll need new decorating items/furniture etc. so BEWARE!

Morning 101...you are making me hunger for a 'bacon-tomato' sandwhich..are you getting a good crop from those tomato boxes hubby made for you..

Jeannine, fantastic work..wow, cross stitching takes up sooo much time...I purchased a program for my computer than changes photo's into graphs..so, took photo of my grandchildren, went out and bought everything I needed, did about 20 lines and voila, it's sitting pretty underneath the bookcase in my office..now that's something I should be taking out as a project..I can't imagine how many hours it must have taken you....relaxing though...

Morning Dawn..that's my kind of camping as well..

Kim..have you ever accessed the 'fly lady' site...for keeping everything in order, everything in it's place etc..... 1st thing on one's agenda..get dressed to the hilt, clean sink spotless, keep it so and the rest will come into order...I try, but don't know if p.j.'s count as dressing to the hilt....lol some days you just need to look after you and forget the clean-up..bet it was there this morning though...yuk

Tropicanna...I'll go with #4, #4, #4, #4 ...kindness ...that's the key ingredient...

Araness...nothing wrong with being comfy...lol

Anyone know of a camping ground that's central for all of us..we could meet and have a 'camping RU'? now wouldn't that be a treat....

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Sharran, the plant people painting is gorgeous, if you ever do something else like it, I'd love to see....lol....Carol how much was it?lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Starzz - Carol - hello there, another Canadian, welcome ..would you be so kind to tellme where you saw the picture of the 'plant people'..

Ooooh I love camping! Well, of course I've only been 1 time and it was the world's most perfect camping experience. No rain ... 40's at night just perfect for sitting around the camp fire but in upper 70's in the day. We cooked everything we ate. A wonderful experience.

Hi Betty ...
Yes my tomato cages are working out very good, but next year I'll use twine, also to help stake them. They're growin wild out there. LOL

I really admire all you talented people on this thread. I'm not even good at replying to everyone ... but I do read and enjoy. :)

Okay for today's question ...
Best thing ... I'm having company from Montana tonight! :)
Worse thing ... His wife didn't get to come ... it's a business meeting.
What I've learned today ... My computer isn't working with Dave's new vidio stuff, so I've got to do some updates! LOL

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

HI Betty..
Bluekat put a link in her post on this thread..http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3722696
the one where she mentioned that she had bought it from Sharran.
It is amazing..

Victoria Harbour, ON

101 can you share...what is Dave's new video????? wouldn't want to be missing out on anything..lol...we are always so pleased when you post....what's a cooking for your company tonight? Anything special...

I've finally caught up after taking a couple of days off. I loved the camping stories and seeing more talents. Thankyou for the nice compliments on my dress.

We're hosting a family reunion this weekend for DH's family so I've been trying to get things prepared. Usually for the reunions people are responsible for their own food but we live too far away for that to really make sense so we're preparing all of the food. It's a bit more for us to do but it means that nobody will have to lug a bunch of food up on the train and over on the boats. My parents and BIL came yesterday so we've been spending some time visiting too. I'll be going away for a couple of weeks right after the reunion so I've also been trying to make sure that everything in the garden is ready for a bit of an absence from me. I also need to make DD1 a dress for her baptism on Saturday. I think I procrastinate too much. So I guess I need to get going.

This is for yesterday.
Best - My parents and BIL arrived safely yesterday (and brought with them a new burner for our barbeque).
Worst - It rained too much for me to be able to show my mom my garden.
Learned - When you tell DD that she can dip her toes in the water (while waiting for people to arrive on the water taxi) she figures that you mean that she can get wet up to her waist.

Speaking of DD, here's another one of my talents. I made this Kim Possible cake for her birthday last year.

Wow, and you can cook as well...talented lady...lol...know your parents come from around my area do they not? How wonderful, family reunion..now why didn't they pick me up on their way north???

http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3703451 this is the direct link. It is from part 8

Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

Hi all. Trying to play catch up here...two days away and the whole thread is just filled with wonderful crafts and talented people, old and new (posters, not people) alike.

Wonderful stories....not a camper here...my idea of roughing it is staying at The Waldorf instead of the Four Seasons in Midtown Manhattan...yep...afraid I'm one of those!

That just akes the camping stories more enjoyable. I must add that I did camp in a van for two months during the summer of 1969. A group of musical friends and I spent the summer between HS and college following the Grateful Dead from concert to concert. Started out in San Francisco and ended up in upstate NY. But that was a lifetime ago.

So excited for Kim to have a Sharon original. Such nice things happen here!

Betty...owie....poor finger. Wishing for better weather to come your way.

Fab produce IO1.....I picked beans, peas and cukes before work today. The one ripe tomato (so far...lots of greenies and pinkies waiting their turn) was delicious on my burger last night.

Feel sure I've missed commenting on so many posts.....Learned? Do not miss a day...the thread moves so fast, it's impossible to catch up.

Hugs to all.....Jan

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Well tangiegirl, I have now found the only other being I know of that followed the Dead on DG. I followed them my last 2 years of high school (school was pretty easy for me...lol)--of course, that was 1994 and 1995. I did get to see their last concert, but that's another story, not to mention Jerry Garcia died on my 18 th birthday. Sorry, didn't mean to regurgitate so strongly, I couldn't help myself..lol

Can't resist posting this thread...what wonderful people are out there!

Amazing video. Amazing woman. Thanks for the link, Betty. I wholeheartedly support ALL of the troops....and that is as political as I care to get.

Trop....yep.....we still exist...slowly dying out but some of us ole hippies (me, not you. You baby, you! lol) still around.....Jan

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sorry girls/guys - don't want the link to lead into anything polical..just wanted you to see what wonderful people walk this planet called 'earth'

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I did see the Dead when I was 14 at the Long Beach arena. Never followed them around though!

Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

Not to worry Betty...that video was about as unpolitical as it gets.

Beth, I was 17 during my *lost* summer. Turned 18 that September. I love every summer of my years......that one was special though....

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

What an absolutely amazing woman! If we could all be so selfless in the world......

Thanks for sharing!

Think she's a bit of a diamond in the rough..but what a tribute and present she's given these famililies...

Cardiff, ON(Zone 4a)

Betty - My parents live in Waterloo now. They just moved down there from Bancroft last year. DH's family all live in SW Ontario. The girls and I will be going down to Bancroft with my parents on Sunday for a couple of weeks. DH will be coming down to pick us up a couple of weeks later. I'll d-mail you with the dates (once I know better) and if you're around, I'd love to drop in for a visit on our way back north. And yes, I do love to cook. Now I'm off to make some lasagne.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wow, that would be exciting..maybe you could spend a night...I'd love to have you visit..are you driving the entire way...won't it take forever...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Gee Whizz...was hoping the girls wouldn't come painting tonight..they just called and will be there for 7pm..I get home at about 6:45 pm...just in time to change clothing and then they stay till about 11pm..oh well...

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Wow! I just looked at a map and man Gilli, you're up there near the polar bears! :) I have no concept of Canada except I know Vancouver is on the west coast and Toronto and Quebec are on the east coast.

And Betty, you look like your surround by water.

I need to get my map out!

AGH! Just realized I've got school tonight and I'm still at work!!! Gotta fly!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jeannine...I am not quite central..not really considered the East coats...but yes, I'm surrounded by Georgian Bay and further south in Toronto where I work is Lake Ontario..and yes Gillibean is next door to the eskimo's..can't even think how many hours drive it will take her and train ride..wow...but it would be so exciting to have her visit...

As for the map, spent Monday with map of USA and marked where you all lived..gives me a little better perspective as to your locations when you are talking....

Best of luck at school..

Glenview, IL

Hi-
Wow I have been extremely busy today. It is days end so thought I'd come see how you are all doing.

BlueKat and Shar- How exciting for both of you! Brings great joy and anticipation I am sure. Blue, do you already have a space chosen for the Plant people painting?

Gardengirl-Your cross stitching is spledid. What a sight to come to work today and see the garden you have created-Made me smile first thing.

101-Oh my how yummy! What a great crop of tomatoes you produced.

Gillibean- Oh my gosh -thats great you can paint with food! Better not show my son or he'll be wanting one too. He loves KP.

Hi Starz -welcome.

Good to see everyone Hellzn,Liz, Wonder,

Betty - how cool you are knitting dor Shars sweatershirt, still not so sure it so will look forward to seeing it when it is done.
So sorry you hurt your finger, hope it heals in a hurry.
it'll be a long night for you, but I am sure you will have a fun painting party with the girls.

It would be wonderful it we could find a Central place to go Camping RU, meet and play. You'ld all know me...I'd be the crying, from sheer happines.

Best-All the work I was able to do. Worked 7 different projects completed 5!

Worst/Best-Seeing an old gentleman fall from his car. Best out of it was there were so many people run to his aid that I was releived to see he was up and on his way before I could blink.

Learned-So So Many beautiful People in our world. Kaziah truley an inspiration. I've watched that little clip several times today-My heart is still in awe at how her dedication and love is being spread. WOW!

Well everyone have a wonderful evening-Talk to tomorrow.
Judy

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Thanks Judy! Cross stitching a big picture like that is something I can doing only once in a while. I've actually been working on a fourth one for I think 3 years now. I pick it up here and there. My big problem is when the weather gets warm, I do not stay in the house long enough to do any of my "inside" crafts. Quilting, knitting, cross-stitching & my latest craze - punch-needle - are all cold weather crafts to me. A couple more months and I dig that stuff out again!

Betty, how neat for you to mark on the map where we all live. You know, if you go to the weather channel and put in the zip code, you can actually play with the interactive radar and zoom in and see the houses. It's kinda neat!

well, I made it thru my next to last class and got my test back from 2 weeks ago. I got a shocking 88 on it! I say shocking because I was sure I'd flunked it big time! Thankfully, since we are on vacation when the final test is given, the instructor is letting me turn in a research paper instead. So technically, I'm done!!!! No more studying botany!

For today:

Best: it's a tie: my son got his broken front tooth fixed so it looks like new and I got an 88 on my Botany test!

Worst: didn't get time to spend either in my garden or with my daughter at all today. She was in bed when I got home... :(

What I learned: I guess I knew more of the botany stuff then I thought!

Y'all have a wonderful night!!!
