The Best Thing/Worse Thing and What did I learn Today..Pt 9
happy, happy biorthday laura. thaks for letting me know about the bingo box.
Well I'm exhausted again, must be a weekend..so I'll get myself cleaned up but got a lot accomplished...
Upper floor all cleaned and dusted, floors done, back of Muskoka chair together, screws plugged in, taped and ready for base coating, 2 loads washed/dryed and ironed now we're up to 9am lol..
Friend dropped in just as I was to have lunch, she had hers so I didn't want to eat in front of her so I left it..asked her if she wanted to go to town, had so many errands to run, got back about 3:30-4:00 and just as I was unpacking my purchases girlfriend Anne dropped in..I had picked up Kentucky Fried Chicken and she had just eaten so I went ahead because I'd no breakfast,no lunch and tummy was sure hungry..I had just finished eating and Anne left to go back to cottage and Bernice and Cliff came over for an hour..so that pretty much took care of my afternoon..put the flowers in the bike baskets but not sure if I life it, should have picked up something different...oh well, there's always tomorrow I guess..
So before I fall asleep, I'm going to do my post...in the morning I'll talk with you all but for tonight, something short but sweet...
Best thing that happened to me...easy one today..Larry from the Chev. dealership that I purchased my car from called and said he needed to see me, that made me wonder..anyway, dropped in today (he's such a sweetheart) said that 3 days after I purchased my car for 2.9 financing, the car manufacturer put 0 financing, now he said that it's the first time ever that he's pulled a favor from them and it was for ME...they are, just through paperwork, going to put my car back on inventory, then I'm going to sign papers and re-buy it and by doing so I'll have saved $1,500.00..he says the manufacturer customer service agent has 90% sanctioned his doing it..by Monday they should know for sure..all it will mean is I have to drop in again, and sign all the paperwork..says if anyone deserved a break it was me..gave him a hug and kiss and it sure made me feel special...
Worse thing that happened, we'll I don't know if it is a worse but it's iffy...when Bernice and Cliff where over I asked how their daughter was doing, I had asked on the prayer line for prayers as her hubby went back to drugs, sold everything, she and 3 kids were living at her mom with nothing!
Very bad situation..anyway, didn't she move back with him...so they were beside themselves...
What did I learn...everything doesn't need to be done today..I'll keep a few for tomorrow! I'm keeping right on schedule though..lol neighbors were laughing today, I've 2 decks/gazebo, 2 patio sets on grounds/ muskoka chair set, swing chair...2 loungers...everything one needs to sit and rest and I just don't take the time to do it..
Sounds like you are all busy this weekend, but I'll keep checking in...
Oooops, not bed time yet..DS just emailed me photo's of new puppies, want to see:
http://webhome.idirect.com/~keluk/chawneslideshow.htm
For you animal lovers, here is her web site..she's certainly involved with dogs...breeding, training and rescue....
http://webhome.idirect.com/~keluk/notesfromhome.htm
ohh I shouldn't have looked...bad bad bad...now I have puppy fever again!
Me, Too....wonder what Baby Jazz and daisy cat would think of that?
btw, Daisy and jazz have to be together, wherever one is, there is the other, sometimes fall asleep while playing, arms around each other. fastest bonding I ever saw!!!
Jazz is looking more and more lionish...has that ruff around his neck. if I can catch him asleep will get a photo over the weekend. sure has been good for me to have the two of them.
araness, loved your sister's house, sure hope she has a housekeeper....I would not enjoy all that housework, would rather be outside. to each his own, though....and it is beautiful.
My boys will be here shortly, ethan has called 3 times already, telling me every time that he's going to be 3.
Have a good weekend all of you.....enjoy whatever you find yourselves doing.
sharon
OMG tropi, let's paint that....see the people inthe clouds?????
Hello all! May I join in?
Best thing: Overcast day so the sun didn't wake me and I got some extra sleep.
Worst thing: Lost 3 hours prime gardening time before the heat kicks in!
What I learned: Mosquitos LOVE overcast days.
Thanks, was just sitting here itching and lurking. :)
Deb
hi deb, welcome...you will love this group!!
Thanks, Sharran. :)
Deb
Afternoon Deb, welcome to this lovely group of friends...no need to lurk, you are more than welcome to join us...do not let us intimidate you, just post and join in..you'll not get to meet any nicer people than those who frequent this thread!
Mosquito's are heavy in this area as well..it has rained heavily most of the morning - cold and damp, can't believe 2 days ago I had the air on and now I've the heat..can't seem to warm up..guess those little critters will be out in numbers this afternoon..as you said, they loooovvveee the dampness....
Have a B.B.Q. this afternoon for friends 50th..her home is waterfront and it was planned for outside..over 60 invited so with weather as is I would imagine many of us will be inside...I'll be one of them because I can't seem to warm up...
Shar, that would be a lovely scene to paint...out with the paints!!!
Well, better get everything together as it will soon be time to leave..will take a few photo's...
Please enjoy the day and do something special for yourself....
Talk later tonight...
I

everyone have a wonderful day liz
Hi all. Welcome to deb! Happy Birthday to you, Wonder....Enjoy!
Beautiful sunset......Sharon and trop.....you should paint it. Wouldn't it be interesting to see the differences and similarities in your finished works?
Thank goodness, no mosquitoes bite here (yet). I've seen a few of those huge ones, which I guess are the males? I think?
One of my favorite things to enjoy on summer evenings are the fireflies. I had a wonderful hour sitting out in the yard last night watching them and breathing in the sweet mix of scents from the gardens carried by a nice cool refreshing breeze.
Been busy accomplishing quite a bit outside....put up a trellis of sorts against the back wall of one of the old outbuildings on the property where my veggies are growing this year. So the cukes are happily growing up it and producing heavily. I've been giving away bags full of them together with green and purple bush beans for the past week and my fridge is still too full! Why do we always grow more than we can use?
Only a few ripe tomatoes so far, (lots of large, still green ones) but once they start to come on, I'll be practically forcing those onto unsuspecting coworkers and virtual strangers, too. Broccoli heads are huge and I'm toying with the idea of a fall crop of it this year, which I don't usually do. Family doesn't care for canned or frozen veggies, so we just stuff ourselves with them while they last. Usually tired of broccoli by the time frost gets it and the small side shoots from the spring crop are enough for our use.
Put about twenty more perennials in this week and nine just today. It's a chore keeping everyone shaded and watered but I don't mind the extra work. I'll try to take some new pictures this weekend. (Fair warning lol) The beds are filling in nicely. I'm not sure why but my columbines, pansies and violets are still (mostly) happily blooming away along with the usual summer bloomers like the daylilies, roses, butterfly bushes, sage, lilies, dahls, marigolds, sunflowers, cleome, BES, delphs, clems and assorted daisies.
Oh, and I have lots of hummers this year! First year in ten that I've caught more than a glimpse or two of them in a summer. Now, each morning they come to feed from the beds but most especially, they hang out by the four hanging baskets of fuschia in the back porch area. Can you tell how much I love summer? It's my happy time!
Sharon, I'd really enjoy some more daisy and jazz pictures, if not too much trouble. Everyone, for that matter. I love looking at all of the pics you post, please don't stop!
Betty, enjoy your cookout and try to relax for more than 30 seconds this weekend. You wear me out, woman!
Yesterday. Best? Cooled down enough to turn of the AC for a day or two.
Worst? One of my broccolis had some sort of stem rot after DH took the main head. I think he cut it too flat and the water just filled up the stem...the others all seem fine.
Learned? (Realized anew, more accurately) Summer in Pennsylvania will be over too soon for this native Floridian. :-(
Seize the day!
Awwwwwww, Tangie, sure wish I lived near you....I would be there with my hands out. I love summer veggies and yours sound sooooooo wonderful. I have no place here to do a veggie garden, have tried, but kids and squirrels mangle or eat everything.......I grew up with one though, and really miss it. so I hit the farmers markets in the area and enjoy them for as long as i can.
Maybe tropicanna and i will paint that sunset, sure is pretty.
will get a Jazz/daisy photo soon.....they are hardly still for a minute and usually I am right in the middle of them without my camera, but promise, I will try.
enjoy your veggies as my mouth drooooools!!!!
or gigantic fish....
Getting inspired!!!!!
Tangiegirl - I am a born and raised Floridian too! Grew up in Brandon near Tampa and went to college @ UM and moved to MD from Ft. Lauderdale 3 years ago. Now I am a snowbird visiting in February every year -LOL. Where are you from?
Welcome Deb!
Best - My Plant People painting arrived safe and sound! The cats seem to like it as well. Sharon, they must smell Jazz and Daisy. I think they approve.
Worst - Ate too much for dinner and had quite the tummy ache for a while. It was tasty going down....
Learned - people really don't know how to take care of their skin. Why is that? Yesterday's client washes her face with shower gel and wonders why her face feel tight.
Kim,
Painting looks good there....beautiful cats, too, and they probably do smell Jazz and daisy since they both "helped" me get it ready for you.
daughter lives in ft. lauderdale, has for 2 years, is a pharmacy student at NOVA...FSE.
Loves it.
glad the painting arrived all in one piece. Enjoy it!
shar
Now to figure out where to hang it! Everyone can have Ft. Lauderdale I am not moving back to FL.
How is the party going with the boys?
The painting looks fabulous. Glad the kitties approve. They are gorgeous!
Ahhh.... Florida people! Who knew? You just never know where a hastily typed thought will take you.
bluekat....Born and raised in Pompano Beach, there through HS. Then on to Florida Atlantic University. Married, built a business and raised my family in Ft Lauderdale. Thirty eight years. I can give precise directions for literally anyplace in Broward and parts of Dade (now Miami-Dade) and Palm Beach Counties. Only one of my many entirely useless talents.
My heart is still there and I WILL move back again. In a way, I've never really left. All of my closest friends still live down there. I can close my eyes and be back there in an instant. And it's as real to me as my "RL" is.
H's elderly parents were the reason for our move to PA. MIL passed away a few years ago but DFIL is 90 and still gardening!
Shar....Nova is a fabulous school. Their entire school system is top notch...don't know if it's still the same (so little is!) but they used to go right from elementary school through college level. My nephew (whom I helped raise, he and my daughter grew up more like siblings than cousins) went to HS and college at Nova.
the painting is gorgeous!
thanks for the birthday wishes. I got the money early betty and as you know, money can burn a hole in your pocket. i dont ususally spend money on myself, it always goes into bills and such so when it came to me and i was told i MUST spend it on myself, well i went straight out. I felt weird too. i felt guilty but it was exciting too.
i thought i would post a few pics of family and the house and such just to give you a little insight into my world. I thought i would start with the first of the orhcids that will bloom this year.
ok, so there you have a little insight.... hope you didnt mind.
now can i ask you all something..... just a get to know you more thing?

favorite colour?
Soft pastels, blues, pinks, tangerines, creamy yellows.
favorite food?
I'm a binge eater...don't mean I binge at one sitting, but I'll have a craving for a food or food combination for a week or so and eat a ton of it. Then, switch to something else til I've had my fill of it. Right now, it's creamy swiss cheese and crispy crackers with a side of fresh peas from the garden (raw, unseasoned), avocado and fresh fruit cut into large chunks and berries, well chilled, almost frozen. Yum!
favorite time of the year?
Summer, summer and summer.
gold or silver?
Gold.
favorite time of the day?
Early evening. Early morning is a very close second, especially if it's not a workday.
favorite movie?
"The Birdcage" I simply love it and it ALWAYS makes me laugh. It's a classic. Great cast. Hank Azaria's character, Agador, is priceless, as are Nathan Lane and Robin Williams.
How about you, Wonder.......Please answer as well?

HI Everyone!
Great pictures Wonder! What a fun bunch you have!
I've been busy today so I'm now just getting the chance to get online.DH spent the entire day putting his new toy on to our boat. He bought himself a GPS/chartplotter system so we can see where the heck we are when we're boating. While he did that, I went grocery shopping, cut the grass, took DD to the craft store to buy supplies for her latest obsession - gimp weaving. Some kind of plastic string you make into keychains, bracelets, etc. I bought tons so the kids will have stuff to do when we go on vacation next week. We're heading to Smith Mtn Lake on the 21st and I cannot wait!!! I am so ready for time off! My SIL and DN will be joining us so the kids will have a third to referee them.
OK, so for today...
Best: Got to lay on the hammock this afternoon, read my magazine and listen to the birds - with no interruption. It was a miracle in Richmond today!
Worst: no rain....again. We've gone days with no rain (at my house at least!)
Learned: As of 9:36pm...nothing yet. :)
Here's a pretty picture I took with my new camera
Hello there, just got in from the B.B.Q. rained most of the day, we spent most of our time under the deck..fun was had by all..think I was the only one not drinking (don't have anything against drinking, just don't like the taste) but everyone is in full swing but this old gal.. I have a class tomorrow and still have homework to do....again you say, yes, the teacher gave me the wrong package so I've had to drive 35 miles to get the correct one...
Darlene was certainly surprised and loved the bicycle filled with flowers..nice to see old friends..but again, I was the only single person there and even after all these years still feel out of place..thus I'm home....probably more the reason than the homework...
It's been a very long day, but a productive one, got everything on my Sat. challenge done, now for Sunday.. who knows what moremischief I can get into..... lol...
I'll be answering all your posts in the morning as I'm shortly going to disconnect computer..we've got quite the storm a rumbling and it's thundering and lightning..sky looked angry..almost like May 24 - Firework display...Sailor is pacing up and down the room, makes her nervous..the cats, well it doesn't seem to bother them...
I'll post a photo taken at the party..
Best thing that happened...have a neighbor making me my 3 1/2 ft. x 4 1/2 ft. frame for the outside planter I'm making..he just called and said it would probably be ready by the time I get home tomorrow night..when he came over to take dimensions of what I wanted he said, now when would you like it, I said 'tomorrow' please..so he's one day off..just joking..won't be able to finish the project until next weekend..but it needs painting soooo next challenge...
Worse thing ... looked at photo's and realized just how badly I need to diet..you never seem to realize your weight until you see yourself in a photo....will commit myself to a diet challenge...
What did I learn today...that old friends and new friends mingle well...and I realize just how lonely I am at times when you see couples together laughing and joking away...miss my hubby...but it isn't to be, sooo I'd better get into a better frame of mind...
So dear friends, it's just a rumbling..Laura, I'll answer your questions tomorrow and post to you all..if I soon don't get off I may not have a computer tomorrow...so keep well, enjoyed your posts as always..miss you guys...
night/night/ may got watch over you and yours...
Garden girl, bee balm.....how lovely to see that someone else loves it. Nice photo.
today we had a birthday party for my 3 year old grandson. his dad wanted to take him to lowes and pick out a sandbox for him to keep here at my house. but early this morning when we had a bacon pic nic on the back deck, he said to me, Nana when are you going to spread the rest of your mulch......and i said, i will do it soon as I can get some help, ethan. And Ethan said, I will help you, nana. End of conversation.
when my son and ethan came back from Lowes just in time for his birthday party.......this is what ethan had talked his daddy into buying, and in the picture you can see he is using it as promised....spreading mulch.
What a child!
Laura.....

Wonder I love all the prisms in the windows, I miss having a window over my sink. I could put them in my front window but I'm afraid I'd blind a driver going down the street.
I have to tell you guys a lill funny note...went to see Harry Potter today, wasn't that packed but did have a row of kids behind us age about 5 or 6, most little boys. One scene Harry kisses a girl. LOL well all the boys behind us started gagging and saying "OH YUCK" and "GROSS" lol several rows of adults started laughing at them, the kids Mom acted like she wanted to kill them.

color: Purple
Food: falafel
time of year: Summer
silver
time of day:afternoon
movie: I can't nail it down, I like lots of movies, but the one I saw tonight really was interesting
well thanks and keep em coming!
my window has crystal prisms and chubby mermaids and such all across the window. I now have an addition, beautiful glass fish. a lady makes them who is fighting cancer and i have been slowly collecting them for the last 12 months. they cover my window...
Here is a pic of some.
I also took a photo finally of the bracelet i made.
its knitted on size 8 needles using fine beading wire. It has 100 signature beads (larger decorative beads) and then 3 seed beads in between. you knit 15 stiches on and then knit as many rows as you need for your wrist size using all the beads, you may have some over. you then cast off. now here comes the tedious bit, you then wrap all the outside of the bracelet with the wire to finish it off, like over stich. you then make loops at then ends and attach your clasp. thats just a general idea. if someone wants to make one i will go more indepth.
unfortunatly i made mine too big and have to redo it.... thats going to take ages as i have to cut all the beads off the wire!
what was the movie trop?
araness, greay is an intersting favorite colour!
liz. colour?
advocado and friut, strange to us as we use it more in a savory way down under!
best today? resting
worst? sore throat.
looking forward to hearing from the rest of you.... getting to know you is fun!
