Glenview, IL

Oh My Gosh!! How much is a plane ticket? I have only seen that technique on tv.
I'm Flooord! LOL

BBin a bit-
OH Good Morning eveyone.
Judy

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

OH FOR GOODNESS SAKES, BETTY.....I am just getting ready todo that with the floor in this room, except I have a lot of brick already in here and can't decide colors to use....thinking about reddish browns or terra cottas or both....you did a great job, I love it.
Now I am so inspired again! I had almost talked myself out of it and used tile, but nope, gonna go back to the original plan.
thanks for sharing.

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

lol GG you and I always think the same....Betty can I be on your visit list? LOL that floor is fantastic, next house I get you and my sister are gonna have to come for a visit...even the DH was impressed and it's hard to get him to even give a hoot about anything like this. You are truely a talented lady...

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

How funny I was thiking of doing that too on my porch cement and maybe my front walkway too. Well great minds do think alike here in this thread, looks liike everyones on the same page. lol I textured my walls in my living room too, Is it venitian plaster? I did it on one wall and it took so much time that I cheated on the other walls, but it still looks ok. Looks great you little artist. Too much talent here too admire.

Elaine, glad your back too. Thanks Dave, she is 101. No more crying now. Women , it is our perogotive to change our minds.

I must have skimmed over the horse story and need to go back, sometimes i skim if I am real far behind on many forum and thread watchers.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

I'm sitting here typing with one hand as one of my other kitties is on my lap (her morning routine) and I literally have to keep her from falling off. I had thought she would be upset over Prints being gone, but she doesn't seem to notice. Now the third kitty, Margie, is not herself at all. She and Prints sat outside together and hunted rodents together at times. The day Prints disappeared, she was quite freaked when outside - like she could tell that something had happened. She didn't want out for the rest of the day and even now, doesn't stay out long. She's my "least nice" cat (although I love her to bits, of course), but this has hit her hard.

Best thing so far today: all the caring I get about missing kitty and, Tangie, that is so sweet of you to wonder about it making me more sad . . . I've had mixed feelings, but think that the love shown by people asking is best of all so please keep asking if I haven't said anything. I have pretty much given up hope, but there's always a tiny glimmer. For another week or so anyway.

Worst thing so far today: no kitty (I am sounding like a broken record).

What I've learned: Not a darn thing.

Betty, the floor is incredible - I can't even paint a wall so you can imagine how impressed I am with such talent!

Shar, how wonderful of you to help your former students like that. You must be very proud!

To all, hope you have a glorious day. I'm soon off to work, but should be home by 2:00 and hope to get myself into the garden to work off some of this depression (I have clinical depression and have been on anti-depressants for years, but nothing, of course, helps the depression caused by an event).

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hope you gals don't think I'm bragging, that's not why I post my photo's...just thought as you are always up to something you might like some ideas, know I would enjoy any that you have to share...

Had the insurance over last week and he saw the floor and asked if I was interested it doing it in homes..said no thanks!!!! Did same technique in Florida in mom's Florida room...inexpensive way...

When I moved here, I decorated on a dime...had to be very creative, slowly I replace some of my work but generally speaking I'll leave it for awhile...

I do thank you for all your kind comments...ALSO.. forget the bread and breakfast..if any of you ever want to visit my area, there are 3 bedrooms waiting for you and a tour guide..flights come into Toronto every hour and I'm only 1/2 hr. from airport..so of you go, pick up that ticket, or get that car tunned and we'll have a wonderful visit...

LOVE COMPANY!!! (you have to cook though) lol

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Never ever have we thought you were bragging, Betty!!! You are just not the bragging type, and please never stop sharing your accomplishments - we love them! Same for any one of you!

If I could afford to visit you, I would in a heartbeat. However, we'd have to eat out as I don't cook either - lol!! DH does all the cooking and grocery shopping in this household.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dawn, venetian plaster is sooooo much work...just behind the den couch, hard to see but if you look closely on the right I have an array of grave vines done with the plaster and stencils...

Not sure if this photo will help...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well everyone, I'm packing up my craft tools, rhubbarb leaves and 3d picture and will be spending afternoon at mom's doing all her little projects...can't leave till 1 though as I'm on telephone duty...have a great, great day and I'll pop in from time to time and will take my camera to mom's, who knows just perhaps I can capture something interesting...lol

Tonight I'll gab and say hi...off on a missing..bye

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

One of these days (years) I want to try the rhubarb leaf thing (with concrete - is that what you are doing?) - I have some great ones right now, but just no time to try it. Please do share pictures of your work - it's inspirational and just plain fun to see what you are up to.

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Heck no, we know you're not bragging Betty! Your stuff is just so beautiful!

Glenview, IL

Here's hoping your having a great day,

Liz, Thanks on my sunset-Taken at our cottage in Montello Wi. The cottage is set on a hill off Lake Buffalo. Beside the lake, the sunsets were a major reason for purchasing this 100 year old shack. We have been renovating for the past 2 years. One of the first things we did was knock out the walls and replace with windows just so we can watch the sunset almost from anywhere within the house.
Enclosed is the same sunset a few minutes later.
...Also, Loved how your leaf turned out-the colors are wonderful are you making any more?

Wonder, The cottage is beautiful-nice rates too. So for a birthday greeting we should send on the 16th-and you'll get get in on the 17th right?

Shar-Your art student is so very talented. How proud both of you must be. Speaking of art, i am looking forward to seeing how your's and Helln floor turn out.

I don't think anyone is Bragging, sharing crafts and accomplishment has been most inspiring. Brings a great smile to me to see your wonderful work. Now with all this talent can some one explain how to make a shading with paint. Painted the leaves on my birdhouse and my kid says too bad you didn't shade it. LOL as far as I knew I did! I mean it looks like a leaf to me-I even blended green and yellow to bring down the hues?.

Murmur-I am hoping your kitty come prancing home very soon.

Darius-holding you in my prayers.

LOL Betty, I don't cook very often but for you...Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner...Uh how do you like your Hot Dogs?

101-the one and only! welcome back.

Well I better get back to work here-
Judy

Judy, maybe your kids are lookingfor more contrast, which you get by using complimentary colors to change the hue of the original color.....like with green, you would use red to make it darker where it needs to be darker...or yellow/white to create the sunshine effect.
Heres and example, that is extreme contrast, but might explain it a little more clearly.
Had to angle the shot so I didn't get a glare, so i hope it shows well..
I wanted it to look like sunshine on the philodendron....kept geting lighter and lighter, but I liked the look of it.
Does this help?

this might give you a clearer picture, not sure how well youcan see either, but hope it will help.

and one more, this is my fun painting, shows my love for plants and for painting.....and my weird imagination.....but also shows shading, since i used only green shades for the plant/people. A lot of folks don't see the people at all, some only see after looking at for awhile.....
thought it might make you smile.
that's all, no more, I promise...till next time.

Glenview, IL

Sharran,
Thank you! it does makes sense to me, will have to give it a whirl.
I am Wowwing the plant people painting!!! That is just so cool, That tecnigue is called abstract right? I love pictures within pictures... counted 10 possibly 11 people-they look like gymnist or dancers to me. Very very Cool painting. I did a sketch with mom inscribed in it once-So far only those who can draw can tell where it is. lets see if you can.

I see the "mom". Was this a gift to your mom?

Glenview, IL

Hey liz-oops forgot the sunset!

While we're on the artist thread, here's an acrylic I did of one of my dogs.

Thumbnail by ByndeweedBeth
Glenview, IL

No, my kids like to draw and doodle, one day i joined them and was teaching them to sign their work-so inscribed mom into it because I did the sketch, signed it years later because I sent a copy to my Brother.
Glad you spotted it! You an artist too?

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I mostly do oils and acrylic, see painting above.

Glenview, IL

Oh BBeth-
Your painting is fantastic. Whats your dogs name? What kind? Beautiful.
J

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

That's Bea, my English Bull Terrier. Their funny faces just beg to be painted!

Glenview, IL

well hello Bea! Also love the backround-you must have painted him in the fall. I can only wish to paint like that, I love the shadow on the lake too-just awsom...Do you have more?

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Nice drawing, I did see MOM, and the dog painting is also lovely.
the plant people are dancing, I guess....just whatever you want them to be doing. Just one of those things that came out of my head at the time.
It is actually sold, and hangs in a monstrosity of a home here locally...but I got the photo before the painting left me.
Might do another one and do it a bit larger, a very tall skinny one if I can cut a frame for the canvas to the size I want.

Just finished a commissioned boxer named Harley in March.....have photos of it on my other computer, will see if I can't get some transferred over and will show. I enjoy animals, but don't like painting from photos. However, dogs don't make great models, can't sit still long enough.

And yes, the plant people is an abstract, as opposed to non objective which is when you can't recognize a thing in the painting.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Anyone we know`s commissioned this particular harley? I see the Mom and I love love love that sunset. I`ll be gone soon I need to go to a jazz festival at one of those concerts in the park kind of things but i`m charging my phone and trying to hydrate before I perish. Probably won`t be on after this today.

Glenview, IL

Have a grand time at the jazz fest! will be going to cottage tomorrow.
woah-definatley keep hydrated, can't even imagine the temps there.

Sharran, thats great on the paintings! On the plant people one is it for pleasure or sale too? I am not crazy about the objective kind of paintings...lol got no imagination.
Once an Eagle looked directly at me-wish I could figure how to draw it. But i believe it was a sign just for me so it will remain in my memory.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Have a great time, dawn!! stay cool. the Harley dog painting was done for a lady who has a huge farm and tons of animals.....They just got a baby St bernard flown in and when it gets a little bigger, she has asked for a painting of it as well.

the flower people was just a painting in a show a couple of years ago, and I got a call from the director of the gallery asking if I would sell it. so I did. It was not commissioned, just one I did for fun.

Most people commission specific things like their kids or pets or boats or houses...stuff that takes not much imagination. I like to do the imaginary stuff more.

thanks for your interest.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

I am sitting here oohing and aahing over all the incredible art work and photography! I honestly can't do a good job of painting a wall so I truly admire such marvelous work.

The abstract, Shar, is phenomenal!!

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I like the "plant people" concept. It reminds me a little of fairies dancing in the forest! So far I've only painted people and horses and dogs. I've done a few commissions with the proceeds donated to dog rescue. This one is my husband and another of our dogs. For some reason I could never get this one to photograph correctly.

Thumbnail by ByndeweedBeth
scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I also like to do american primitives.

These are on wood plaques. Well, enough of mine.....let's see more people's artwork!

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Wow!

Cardiff, ON(Zone 4a)

You are all so talented. I've really enjoyed looking at your art.

Beth, I really like the one of your husband and dog. He looks so relaxed.

Shar, the plant people abstract is so beautiful. I was watching a show the other day where they were talking about decor and saying that green is the new black.

My talents do not lie in drawing or painting. DD1 who is eight can draw much better than I can. I do enjoy crafts though, especially sewing. I'll have to take some pictures of some of my projects. One of these days I want to make an embroidery sampler. I just need to find the time.

Best for today: It rained off and on for most of the day so I didn't need to worry about watering the garden.

Worst for today: Stayed up too late and had to wake up too early.

Learned: DS likes to get out of the car by rolling down the window and climbing out (which means that the window does not get rolled up until I see it after the car has been rained in).

Glenview, IL

Fantastic!! Is that the Bad Lands?

Cardiff, ON(Zone 4a)

I almost forgot. Betty - I love the colour of your car. Orange is my favourite colour.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I painted Ship Rock in the background. DH is Navajo and even though he never lived on the reservation he (and his tribe) have close ties to the land.
