Best Thing/Worse Thing and What did you learn today? Part 8

Ijamsville, MD(Zone 6b)

Best for yesterday: spending time with my girlfriend and talking girl / life stuff

Worst: staying up way too late and the cat threw up on the bathroom rug

Learned: I swear cats will throw up only on fabric - most of the house is hardwood or tile floors but it is either the bed or the rugs!

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Day off today and it is so nice out! I'm watering everybody today! then I am planting a few odds'n ends and pulling any weeds I see. Finally getting out my extra pretties for the gardens. Maybe a nap later. That job wears me out! Sure can tell I'm not in my 20's or 30's! LOL

No bear today but was here yesterday and ty barked and he ran off. Still keeping an eye out for him!

Mrs. Cardinal came and sat on a porch post looking at the window and let me know they wanted food whether there was a bear around or not! She got her wish!

Shar what great pictures of you and grandson! They tell the story all by themselves. Thanks for sharing!

bluekat girl time is so nice! A lot of things get figured out during those chats.

Betty you have such interesting days even though they are very full. You must have tons of energy.

Have to go almost time to move the sprinklers.

Hope everybody is having the day they need.
Vicki

Ijamsville, MD(Zone 6b)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hello there, had a million things to do..having supper tonight for about12 and guess what...friends left in rv to go to Discovery Harbour, got in my car to do groceries - pick up something for desert and Arthur said he'd put my stained glass heron in a copper water feature if I bought the parts..oh lucky me...but, car won't start so I'm here without wheels...was going to get angry, but I said "self, maybe the good Lord wants you off the road today - he's keeping you safe" so I'm mellowing, making a mish/mash meal and it will have to do..restaurant's not open Sunday's or problem would be solved lol.... so, all my plans are gone kaputt so here I am posting and looking around for something to do....

Have fun everyone...

Victoria Harbour, ON

By the way 'Bluekat' thanks for starting the new thread..truly appreciate it...

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

My boys gone, house picked up, raining outside, and here I am looking for something to do....weird day.
Maybe upholstery is calling.
BTW, Ethan decided this morning that he needed to go fishing, had to have a pole and must catch fish for the baby birdies to have for breakfast (birdies being Ethan and me).....so go to my garden nook, find a short cane pole, attached a line of dental floss, knotted a clip on the end, got the Sunday sales section from the newspaper and cut out a gazillion blue fish, yellow fish, garfield fish, "geen"fish etc., etc....then we hid them all over the house so ethan could "catch" them.
whewwwww...need a nap or two.before the tears catch up.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Bet it's lonely Shar, but oh what a weekend you've had..I've almost got supper organized..desert, well the store next door will have to do..everyone will get here about 4:30 so I'm watching t.v. something I do rarely on the weekend, but not into starting a project this late in the day...so, check in on you all later this evening...

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

I think you all must have fallen asleep as i did....but I did get out to check out my daylilies, and thought I would send you a view of the daylily garden that I can see from my deck....except would reverse the position......this is the view from one daylily garden, just after it poured buckets of rain..AGAIN this afternoon......Maybe flowers will wake you up, it is terribly boring without you!!

Hi not sleeping yet, crowd still here..young fella - 7 yrs. just lost the bear tooth he got yesterday so we're checking every inch of property...so, I'm checking computer area..so here I am...talk later tonight....
Shar..beautiful gardens..I'll have to invest in some lillies next year!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Thanks, but everytime I look at pictures from you, I think "what lovel gardens!!!!"
Luck finding the bear tooth....geesh...a bear tooth!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well we found the bear tooth necklace..so little gaffer was happy..
Just got back from going for a ride to the little town Roger and I lived in..Arthur thought I needed an ice-cream cone and a ride in his r.v. so it was fun..

Best thing that happened today of course if having 3 of the 4 good 'buddies' over for the day..my eldest son is away, but the stories the other 3 told...had everything, steak/chicken/pork chops/spaghetti (enought for 30) potatoes/potatoe salad, mac. veg. salad and on and on...I've enough food to have a party of 20 tomorrow..that's my problem, when I cook, I cook for an army..used to Roger and the gang...

Worse thing...grease all over a nice new outfit..wore apron but managed to wreck this outfit...can't really say that the car not starting was a bad thing, I believe there must be a reason the good Lord didn't want me on the highway....lol

What did I learn today...that my children's friends still view my home as their home and call me mom..what nicer compliment could one have...
Will include a few photo's..

Jeff - singing and playing guitar for solo performance for 'dear old mom'

Victoria Harbour, ON

The 'trio' Oliver - german boy who was here for high school and parents stayed in Germany so guess where he stayed... then Jeff - my youngest...then Arthur who was adopted and did not have the best of conditions and kind of adopted my family...they haven't changed much..still lots of trouble left in them...always joking and laughing..they'll never grow up!

Very handsome group, and aren't you happy that they still think of you and enjoy your company (and cooking!!). says a lot for all the love you gave them.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Betty, how wonderful - and I'm not a bit surprised they love you so much!

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Betty i`m glad you have your house full , it is good for you, sounds crazy in a good way.

Shar I love it , I wish Jo would go to your house for the holiday.

Ves yes dogs to only release bodily fluids or fecal matter where you don`t want them to no matter how big the godd area to barf is, they will pick the one square foot that it`s not ok to barf on. lol

Ok best thing today was going to church and just taking a nap with dh on the bed and staying out of the heat. Worst thing was my heart broken over the loss of my dg friend Carmen(our pins), who was the first prayer request i followed and always prayed for. I am so sad between yesterday and today uh. I just need a xanax. I want to steal my dh`s.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi All - had a wonderful weekend! The weather here was BEAUTIFUL!!! We finally got a boatload of rain all Friday night so my yard is once again green!

For Saturday:

Best - My driver (Dario Franchitti) won the IRL race here in Richmond! Got some good pictures - will post later.

Worst: can't think of anything bad enough to be a "worst"

Learned: that Ashley Judd is as pretty in person as she is in movies.

For Sunday:

Best: Just spent the day doing whatever I wanted.

Worst: It was Sunday to back to work tomorrow

Learned: That Murphy can now jump up on the bird fountain to drink the water! Pic to come.....

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

I've been lurking a bit here lately - this thread(s) was new to me (just couldn't help responding to Betty's posts last night).

The worst for Sunday: my sweet cat, Prints, disappeared.
The best for Sunday: my 20 year old granddaughter can cheer me up by her considerate phone call and upbeat personality. She and her husband are moving to within a ferry ride and a couple miles of me today - now THAT will definitely be the best for today.

Pacifica, CA

Morning, all....well company is all gone, playing in flower beds..construction firm said they'd be here this week with backhoe to finish the rocks for the pond and falls..did put the Blue Heron I painted out in the garden..looks cute...

Putting a Muskoka Chair together for Saturday..we painters are getting together for 'pot luck' dinner and if weather is okay the 12 of us will paint outside..let's hope..so, have to put back together, fill in screw holes and basecoat white and put tracing on so that's this aft. project..

Murmur..welcome, girls/guys on this thread are some of the nicest people you'll ever get to meet...as for Prints, am sure the kitty is having a short vacation and will be back..2 weeks ago mine left for an entire week, then one morning she's crying for me to let her in..

Shar, was up at 5:30..been to town, breakfast for my company before they left..that son of mine loves to tease, so they were ALL recalling some of my cooking experiencing..he says I'm the only mom who can burn water..grandchildren agree-happened twice with them...lol..but when the other 2 finished eating they came into kitchen to tell me how absolutely wonderful it all was..I was so excited, lovely wine from Oliver/doz. white roses from Arthur and wife and Jeff, well he looked around the house, saw I had a fake plant of geraniums, found a gift bag next door and gave me the gift...silly kids...

worked in garden and now I'm ready for the aft. shift..lol...are you back from your Doctor's appointment yet? Waiting for the update...

Gardengirl...looking forward to the photo's...bet the day was lovely..did you happen to pay $18.00 for a bottle of beer? hmmm

Dawn you are correct in your observations re pets...only a little scatter mat under coffee table downstairs and when anything happens it's on that carpet.. read posts for Pins...so my condolences re Carmen..very difficult to loose friends...

Laura, I'm so pleased to hear you are feeling better, and I can speak on behalf of all of us....will be a happy day for us when you are able to post again..we've missed you...

John, thanks for the D-mail..am glad you'll be posting more photo's from your scuba diving outings...

Liz, have you heard any news yet on physical or does it take days/days....hope you are enjoying your day off...more to come this week correct?

This is the last day of our 'Canada Day' celebrations...let's hope boss gives us Friday off then it will mean we've only to work 3 days..let's hope..but we've had 4 off so can't complain...

Well the day is so gorgeous, bought supplies at home depot re project chair so I'd better skitter/skatter and get at it....will share photo of my next weekend project tonight...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Forgot to say I was in swamp today digging out cattails for my pond..yuk..before anything else on agenda a bath is in order...terrible odor...

Right hand of pond still doesn't have rocks..then they get cemented in with colored cement..should look ok..

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

I want a pond!!!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Still working on mine...so many little crooks/crannies on this property that it's fun working on it...this is a little sitting area..picture won't do it justice..poured walking stones on Friday, now going to seed it..but I put far toooo much grass seed in the front on rhubbarb stepping stones that I've no more for this area..so, it will have to wait till I pick some up in the city tomorrow.. it's fun trying to accomplish gardens of beauty..it will be my sitting room when done..little by little..I always want to see mature gardens and I've only started planting last year..sooo must have more patience...would have looked better if next door neighbor didn't have clothes on line..lol..usually the lilies are in bloom...the sitting area cut out from center of trees is about 10 x 12'...nice shaded area...still mega work to do..

Next weekend if I've Friday off I have a project in mind that you may enjoy...

I will purchase 3 4X4's 8 ft. tall...I will cement 2 of them in the ground in upright position secured with the 3rd piece..not sure maybe 48 or 60" wide...then with 2x6 planking I'll make a picture frame..secure it to the 4x4 frame..put hooks and hand a large plant within the picture frame..sound confusion..not really..hopefully I'll have one done in next week or 2..

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Murmur welcome here, yeah Murmur`s here everybody.

sounds cool Miss type "A" personality. How do you sit through church Aunt "B"? giggle

wonder do not isioate, you need to post and we will cheer you up or atleast try. If you isoate you will stay in a bad place longer. The family talking is going ok last I knew?

Feeling a little better this morning over Carmen, it is just sad for her family and those here also fighting cancer. I was frustrated over why God just said No to our prayers, but it is not for us to know i guess. I`m sure she has no complaints so I must just let it go.

Well, our vacation has officially started. I get DH home for the next 7 weeks. I've been taking advantage of having him watch the baby Ella while I spend time in the garden.

Saturday I went to a lady's house who makes beaded jewelry. I bought myself a couple of necklaces and some earrings. I've been wanting to treat myself to some nice earrings for a little while and figured that it would have to wait till I went to the city. Now I don't have to wait. I've been hosting a local television show so I like to look my best for that. I'm very excited to wear my new jewelry for that.

Yesterday we went to see the fireworks for Canada Day. DH took the older kids to the slide so they could watch from the top. I stayed farther back with Ella. She was very engrossed with them and not scared at all. There were a couple of bands playing before the fireworks display and Ella started bopping and singing to the music as only a 7 month old can.

Now I'm off to get some work done.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dawn (lol) my pond isn't smelly but the swamp I was in down the road to dig out cattails certainly was...I've had a bath and I still can smell it..yuk..better use that nice bottle of perfume I've been saving before some swamp creature comes looking for a pretty swamp lady...right....

Also Dawn, will say prayers for Carmen's family..read all her posts..how very sad..and dear friend, it's easy to feel sad when a DG friend dies, you become so familiar with their likes/dislikes/personalities/families that you feel very close to them...I'm sorry for your loss..

Gillibean....you'll have to take photo of your new purchases..lucky you..now do tell us what t.v. station/program you host...what are you hosting...general talk show/craft show/ hmmm bet it's fun...

Liz..just love the photo..look at those flowers..no wonder the little hummingbird has migrated to it...30 lbs..well that's about what I should be loosing..maybe we should support each other in our endeavours..right...

Well have the muskoka chair back screwed together, now for filling in screws with wood fill...don't know if I'll get all my homework done today but I'll try...

Girlfriend Anne just dropped in for 1/2hr. she's up on a weeks vacation with her daughter..DH returning to Toronto tonight...so I'll have someone to play with in the evenings...she loves painting..I'm helping her with a Blue Heron and of course we've mega projects to finish...
She's building a large addition to her cottage..are hoping within the next few years to move up here..I'm just soooo excited..she's such a loving person...can't wait..

Well, another push - day will soon be over..at least it is when you are in bed around 8pm.lol..

Talk later
Enjoy the day!

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Betty, need to get yourself some hip boots!

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

yes hip boots a must for cat tale frolicking. I knew it was not your pond, I was just giving you crap. I hate that smell. You are now swarming with amibas and paramecium.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Best thing : walking 2 miles won't kill me.
Worst thing: People don't care about their pets. Found 2 black labs on the road and put up signs but no calls!

liz, 99% of gall bladder surgery is a piece of cake. in and out in about 5 hours or so.

mine 3-4 weeks ago got complicated and i spent 3-4 days in ICU. had some to do with my liver but not entirely. i had no gall stones, just sludge that has been stopping up the gall bladder as much as 2 years and although it was not cancerous they think the sludge plug in the tiny bile duct was why i ended up up in ICU.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Byndeweed Beth...Welcome to this nice group of ladies and men...all are so special..earthly angels I call them...so please, do join us...
now just look at those flowers...wow, color is stunning...if they are in your garden then you have a piece of heaven for sure...just so beautiful!!!

Darius, how are you feeling now 'sweetie'...better I hope..guess your into projects you shouldn't be doing, correct? (lol) Hard to slow down when you are used to working at full steam...did you ever tell your neighbor about your 2nd visit to the pond...would be interested in knowing his comments...

Gardengirl and Dawn...hip boots would be fine...fine that is on someone who is taller than 5'..can you imagine where they'd go on me? (lol)

Just had another bath, probably in my imagination ...can smell swamp like crazy..just put my clothing in washing so that might help..cats and dog didn't want to stay around me...lol..just kidding...

Still taking micro breaks..if I stop that will be it for the weekend...and I NEED to do homework... so of I go..let's hope this time I'll complete it..

Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

Hi to all...hope you don't mind if I stop in for a moment? I'm still new and am enjoying everyone's posts, though it will take me a while to catch up and keep everyone straight in my head.

Prompted to post because of darius. I spent most of my first two days here reading every single word of your *Out of Limbo* threads and just had to say that I am so glad to see that you are posting and feeling a tad better.

No one here knows me yet, but I do feel as though I "know" you quite well. :o) You remind me VERY much of one of my oldest and dearest friends, who also happens to be hubby's ex. She pulled up stakes about 20 years ago and moved "up the mountain" outside Roanoke. She, too, is one amazing woman.

Thanks for letting me babble....Jan

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

hey, a BIG welcome to DG, Jan!

seems loike everyone knows me because i have a big mouth, LOL.

Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

Too modest, darius. I stumbled upon...let's see, I think it was #11 (?) and went back to hunt down #1 and begin at the beginning. So glad I did...thoroughly enjoyable!

Take care all,

Jan
