Piedmont, SC(Zone 7b)

well said Gita, thanks for the good advice!

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

that is good advice.

mystic - where will ou be going on your cruse?? if this is your first time crusing i have to tell you that the food never stops coming.; went on a cruise to nova scotia before i started my diet and they never stop feeding you. have a great time but stay away from the midnight buffetts. LOL

betty - good going.

beth - beats gaining

have great day and eat smart

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks Gita/Frank...

Not going 'full speed ahead' with diet/diet because the minute I enter the word 'diet' into my vocabulary it hinders what I'm trying to accomplish..soooo today, I'm just cutting down on my intake..lol...

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Diet is something you go "on" and then "off" so you're right, defining it that way rarely works long term. Making lasting changes is what makes a difference.

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

you can say that again. i remember a time when i ate dinner that i had my left hand wrapped around a glass of soda and every time i put food in my mouth the glass followed. at one time i was drinking probably 4 glasses of soda with each meal. now its nothing but water with leom in it even when i go out to eat. limit myself to one slice of five grain bread a day unless i make somethng with breadcrumbs on it then i skip the bread.

lets all keep up the good work.

Frank,

This will be my first cruise..I am beyond excited! This one is on Royal Caribbean leaving out of Charleston. Sails to CocoCay and Nassau. Just a 4 nighter. A cruise has always been something I have wanted to try so when I saw the price I just had to go for it. The Charleston pier is about 3.5 hours away so it won't be a bad drive. I am sooooo looking forward to this trip!

Nova Scotia must be beautiful. I saw some cruises that were labeled Canada/New England...did yours make other stops?

I hear you about the food!! Will have to devise a plan. Well, at least I won't have to worry about drinking soda, since they are not free..more reason for me to load up on the water.

Hello to everyone else out there!!!! Hope everyone has a great night!

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Sounds like some good changes we all need to make! I cut out the bread entirely and limit myself to two rye crackers or 4 square woven wheats per day. Water tastes so good now! I used to drink diet pepsi all day and NEVER drank water.

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

mystic - there is no plan when you go on a cruise. my cruise made one stop and for the life of me i can't remember the name

once in nova scotia went on a tour to the cemetary where all the people who perished on the titanic were buried. they even pointed out the grave of the violin player that the movie showed
playing until the ship went down.

my ship was 1/3 the size of the one you are going on and still they had a different breakfast on each deck and than at midnight they had a giant buffett in the main dining room.

i took a tour of the kitchen and it was incredible. the kitchin was the length of the ship. it was lined with fridges and freezes. in the five days we were on it they told me that they did not hveto take on any food at any port. they had it all before they left.

have a great time and enjoy yourself even if it costs you a couple of pounds. LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Water...OMG..today I managed to drink 2 bottles..know that doesn't sound like very much, but lordy, that's 2 bottles more than I've had in many many years...was actually gagging on the first..just like drinking cod liver oil..SIL gave me a little package of something which changed the taste somewhat and I was able to drink the 2nd...on our way home tonight she insisted that I have a MacDonalds ice cream cone..BIL said it totals only 1 point..I did, but tomorrow I'll be checking it out..no pop so far today..usually I've had many...so, all and all it's been an o.k. day with a few changes...thanks all for the support...

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

i am up to 100 ounces a day. have my first one while going to work at 4 a.m. another at 6 then 10, 12 and two. they are ech 20 ounces. also have a half bottle with dinner.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Betty,

I also do not like the taste of plain water. I always add a smidge of "Crystal Light" Lemonade powder to my water. It tastes very, very good! I don't care for any of the other flavors, and buying frsh lemons can get expensive. Try it--You'll like it!!!!

I LOVE the McDonalds ice cream cone! A cheap treat!

I will post this here again for those of you that did not see it. In this link, there is a list of every "fast food" place and their entire menu. You can click on any item on any menu and get the total nutrition information on that dish including where it falls in the food pyramid.
If you explore a little further, you can find a zillion ways to prepare any one dish, meat, veggie, etc....
Have some fun--and I KNOW it may be an eye-opener for some of you.

I weighed this morning and I'm down 14 pounds now. And I even cheated a bit in the last week, but in the main, I"m eating "lots o'chicken" and some veggies and salads.

Connie

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

With the low carb diet, this is what I eat at various fast-food restaurants:

Taco Bell: 2 side orders of chicken in a bowl with a "top it off" (cheap...only 2.15)
Whataburger: Justaburger ...and I only eat about 1/4 of ONE bun side..just enough for the taste. I tear most
of it off.
Chick-fil-a: chicken strips and coleslaw
Popeyes: Naked chicken strips and cole slaw
Rudy's barbeque: all meat and cole slaw (hmmmm...lots of cabbage!!)
McDonalds: any salad with grilled meat
Dairy Queen or Sonic: chili dog with NO buns or fried cheese sticks with mar. sauce
at school cafeteria: cooked chicken with veggies salad

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thank you Connie for the information..just saved your link and will check it out this a.m.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

On the water thing....I first had to put Rasberry Crystal Light in it to get it down....but after a while I started to prefer the taste of plain water.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I drink LOTS of water because I "have to". If I don't, I will not lose weight. PERIOD. I can't say I like it but when you cut calories and don't lose weight, you begin to think the "cost" of drinking water is not too great!! Water intake can boost your metabolism by about 5%, an additional bonus. Sooooo I drink it, lots of it, and remind myself that I'm doing something that is good for me. I restrict my pop to one diet pop can a day.

Glenview, IL

Hi-
Sounds like everyone is doing well!
Well, weighed myself this morning. Since my last weigh in-about a month ago...gained a few, but some how lost 13 to date.

I do not eat white bread, mostly wheat or none. Haven't snacked in ages, but for occassional cookie, or Dunkin donut in the AM.
...and to be honost, cutting out alchohol-was not my friend.

I do drink a ton of water. Still allow one single pop, RC cola, ty a day but only during the work week.

My big goal is to Maintain- With a little bit of excercise, Like sit ups I think I am in pretty good shape again--

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy, wonderful..sitting here drinking water..got 1 bottle down...try for another this aft. lol...want to weight 125 lbs. when I meet you in Florida...asking the Lord to help me out...if HE can't do it, nobody can!

Glenview, IL

Hey Betty,

Thats awsom-I know how hard drinking water is for you. I am proud of you! Soon three bottles will be like nothing.
Yep we'll be Bathing Beauties when we meet eh!

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

connie - how long between weigh ins did you lose the 14 pounds.

we are all doing well. after my 3 days in the italian section of boston plus my nephews wedding followed by a breakfast buffett the folowing morning and then my neighbors daughters reherasl dinner then the wedding and then the bbq the next day. this sunday is bbq birthday party for neighborts daughters young son so i promised myself i will not weight myself again until the day i went on vacation to ocean city maryland which is 9 days from now.

i hae about a week to get whatever i gained off. want to look good for gita when i see her.

keep trucking

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I will need extra willpower this holiday weekend. My mom and dad and sister are coming to stay with us. Dad had a second career as a gourmet chef after he retired from the gov. as a civil engineer. Everything he makes is so good! Will let you know how it goes.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Awwwwwwwwwwww.....Frankie!!!!

You will look good to me no matter WHAT you weigh!
Just seeing your kind face will be enough for me!!!! AND--knowing you are SOOOOOOOO looking forward to meeting me. I sure hope I won't disappoint you. I AM only human!

I hope you are practicing long hugs..........:o)...and--get a blindfold for Deb while we are in the "process"......teeeee...heeee.....

Gita

NO FAIR Gita!! grin!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Herbie,

I started the day after our vacation to the Northwest, so I know the exact day: July 9, so it will soon be 2 months. I have done the ATKINS thing years ago, but I ate too much meat and not enuf veggies and fruit. Now I just avoid carbs in bread, rice, etc. but do eat all the salad and fruit (but only berries and the occasional grape) I want.

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

connie - thats about 2 pounds per week that you have lost which is about the average i have had since starting my diet years ago.

beth - i know what you can do. send your dad to my house and you won't have to eat all his fattening food. LOL

have a great holiday everyone. i will bed working at usual so we can keep the mail coming to you. LOL

gita - deb sez one hug is o.k. two hugs she will tolerate. three and you will be sleeping with the fishes. LOL

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

You have said this before-----"Whatever Deb says--goes!"

As you well know, the MAN always has the last word...."Yes, Dear!"

Gita

Lyndonville, NY

Sorry I have been "MIA". Busy here and getting lost!

Between trips and errands for my parents, too much eating out, I had put on quite a bit of weight that I lost.

I have now forgotten my starting weight! Anyway, from the last two weeks, I have lost 8 lbs. I think I am back down to where I started...so that is at least pretty good.

I have had somewhat of an upset stomach the last few days, and have only been able to tolerate toast or rice krispies cereal.

Everyone is doing so well, I am so happy for all of you! Frank, you look so awesome and Deb is beautiful, which of course you already know!

And Gita, if you do get that extra hug in on Frank....remember Deb likes jewelry! LOL

Debbie

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Hey, Debbie! Great idea!!!

Maybe i can get rid of some of my old, clip on earrings! OR-------

I have some of those old necklaces made of all these little shells. You know--they were all so popular and souveneery. Besides, shells mean beach--and we will be at a Beach. Kind of appropriate, don't you think?

Hey, Frankie--as Deb which she would prefer from the above choices, OK? What are friends for? I'll part with some of that old (oops! I mean precious) stuff. Do you think that will get me a second hug?????? I am really worried now........

What if I gave Deb two hugs. You get one--she gets two. What will that cost me? Huh? Or--YOU may send me swimming with the fishes if I do that.

IO1--All's fait in love and war! No bitching allowed!

We will see..................We will see....................

9 days to go...... Gita

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

gita - if ou give deb anything make sure it has a tiffany box. i have always spoiled her. lol

keep up the good work.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I give up too much to catch up on. I ate real bad last night. All day I was good but then the power was off for about 9 hours because believe it or not we had a tornado a mile from here and so i went to Trader Joes and got junky stuff like those dried candied fruits with chochalate on them and stuff I NEVER eat and pigged out and Greg said he gained weight 4 lbs, so i won`t weigh myself. uhg!

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

with debbies friends in from mnichigan and us showing them around and with debbie making her best italian m,eals its hard to diet but i am dong my best. maybe gained a pound or two but other than that all seems to be under control.

gong into thecity today with them. hello carnegie deli. LOL

keep the faith

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I lost 4 lbs last week....meaning a total of 53 lbs lost since I was banded on 6-1-2007.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I lost 7 over the last 2 weeks, the last 3 days were not filled with good choices. I was stress eating but doing good again now. The wedding is completed and done, thats the good news and I'm back to my own house.
Pat

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

keep up the very good work. i on the othe hand have gained 3 pounds but its been two weddings 3 bbq's and now a day in the city so i guess i should be happy. LOL

will be gone for 10 days starting saturday so stay cool and think of the new bathing suit you will be able to wear next summer.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

If you managed 2 weddings, 3 BBQ and a day in the city for a gain of 3 pounds, YOU SHOULD BE HAPPY! I'd have more than 3 pounds of water retention from all that! You rock!
Pat

(Cathy), MO

Just found this thread and would like to join in. My problem has always been comfort/emotional or stress eating. And I want to loose 40 lbs. Weigh ins' still on Sundays?

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Pat,

It IS 3lbs of water--on his brain!!!!

PS. I am allowed to say that! I know I am......

Gita

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Cat,
Weigh-ins are anyday you commit to. It seems many of us have chosen Sunday and we would love to have you join us. Emotional eating is the pits, and heaven knows that is HUGE (Pun intended!) issue for me!
Pat

(Cathy), MO

You know Pat, someone told me awhile back there was a really good book out there about emotional eating. Helps us to understand why we do it and what triggers it etc. I may have to do some researching! I've dieted off and on all my adult life. Never done it with a group though. This could be fun!

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

cat - glad to have you join our little group. yes, we usally weight in on sunday but if you want to do it another day that is also o.k. we re just here to offer each other support and share some recipes we think others would like. in fact, i have a "layered vegetable casserole" dish that i think you all shojd like. also, i have posted how somerecipes and how i actually started on this weight loss of mine. its on the prayer forum under diet recipes. ou might have to go through a few pages to find it but it is there.

good luck.
