Hey you haven't gained anything back!!! That's super
my 100 + lb weight loss = my new toy
depsi - glad you liked the book. i enjoyed eatingll that fruit in the morning. it was really fillingand TASTED good. LOL
wating for next sunday for my next weigh in. i am hoping for a decrease. how did everyone due on sunday??
Well... I finally went in there and weighed, it was NOT a good week!! And boy or boy did it show on the scale, what a gain!
I didn't gain but I'm getting a little discouraged. Ulcer is acting up again, so I'm stopping fruits for a few days. I want to loose 20 lbs overnight!!!!
What's making the difference for me is looking at myself naked in the mirror.....back, front & the sides....I can kid myself with clothes on but the mirror don't lie....Hope this isn't too graphic for all of you...I'm tired of catching glimpses of myself in the TV screen or windows or especially the camera and wondering who I have become....Cat, would the vegies Herbie first talked about help rather than the fruit??? Deb
depsi - "mirrow, mirrow, on the wall. LOL i think it has to be fruit but i am not sure.
cat - take it easy. take care of your medical problem first and then the weight
psych - next week will be better.
hugs to all of you
frank
It's not a big thing. Re-occurs every now and then. I normally just stop eating certain things and it settles back down. Stress filled life in the modern day! LOL
thats the main reason i left wall street.
Well, I would have to leave ALL of my present life to get away from the stress. And that's not practical right now. Gotta keep those bills paid you know. So I just deal with it the best I can, deal with the ulcer when it flares, and the migraines when they flare. I got me a couple of yoga tapes a few weeks back. Thinking maybe it might help. Getting there!
since leavingthe sreet i have had no problem with any stress. i am one of those people that i do not let ANYTHING bother me. i just roll with the punches so to speak.
have a great day and upcoming weekend
Herbie, are you retired or did you find other work that is more satisfying and less stressful? (besides gardening!)
Hey Guys.....I"m still stuck (not really...."on hold" might be a better word) at a 16 pound loss since July 10 or so.
My step-son is getting married next weekend, and I've had the clothes bought for about a month, so I "had" to hold off on the dieting so they wouldn't be too big. Isn't that nice! haha
But after the wedding, I'm on the low-carb lifestyle again.
Has anyone had the dreaded colonoscopy yet? My gynecologist finally persuaded me to get one after nagging for 5 years. He says everyone over 50 should have one...ESPECIALLY MEN...listening guys? It's just to "look around" for suspicious things...nothing has given them "cause" for one.
Connie, put your fears to rest......It was not the least bit uncomfortable, scarey, yucky.....just a prep kit ahead of time to cleanse everything and I was asleep as soon as I was on the table.....no discomfort when I came to....went home, slept and was great that evening.......and it told me what I've suffered with for years as being diagnosed as "IBS" was actually colitis so finally got the treatment I should've had all along....I've had teeth cleaning that were more uncomfortable than this procedure......Deb
Depsi, help me understand the the colitis vs IBS. My son has had problems forever! And his IBS meds help, I don't know if they ever did get an official, test confirmed diagnosis of IBS. I just know he responds well to the meds. ANd I know he has had some tests (because he is an adult and not living at home, I do not always keep up / remember EXACTLY which tests he has had).
i had one a few years ago and its really nothng. in fact, i was able to follw the path ofthe camera on the t.v. monitor. one bit of embarrassment though. bgefore the procedure began the dr. in charge asked if i wold mind that representatives of the drug company be present to see how the drug was working that would put me slightly under during the procedure. i said sure and was surprised when two femals walked in and introduced themselves to me. LOL
connie - good news and don't forget to post some pictures of yourself from the wedding and congratulations again
enjoy your upcoming weekend
I had one a 3 years ago. I was convinced I had stomach or colon cancer. They did the colonoscopy and ran the tube down to look at the inside of my stomach at the same time. I had diverticulitis and an ulcer. Most of the time it doesn't bother me too much, and I've learned how to get it settled back down when it does flare up. The worst part for me was drinking that stuff the night before to flush everything out. The first 2 or 3 cups weren't bad, but it got progressively worse with each cup! LOL. Nasty stuff!
The procedure wasn't bad. They gave me something to half knock me out and I didn't remember a thing. No discomfort afterwards either. They told me I might be "gassy" or have a bit of a sore or scratch throat from the tube. Had neither.
It's not that bad Connie. Just get it over with.
And congradulations both on the wedding and the not gaining anythng back!!!
When they do the colonoscopy at the same time as the endoscopy they call it a "cheek to cheek".
LOL! Cheek to cheek? I didn't even know they called the tube/scope thing an endoscopy. I'm a wimp. Told them I didn't want details, to just get it over with!
Oh Cat, you are too precious!!! "No details, just get it over with!!!" I'll bet there are LOTS of doctors that are thrilled with that attitude. That helps them compensate for those of us that want to know and understand it ALL before agreeing to anything!
Remember I just KNEW I had cancer going in! We always think the very worst. I have to admit though, I'm that way at dentists too! I tell them I don't want to see the instruments, or know exactly what's going on. Just telling me they are going to fill or pull is enough. No details!!! To just hurry and get me done before I keel over! LOL. Told you I was a wimp!
I had it, it wasn't too bad. I told them I wanted to be asleep for the whole thing and the doc agreed, but for some reason I woke up before he was finished and it was very uncomfortable.
Some doctors still do them with the person alert, but seems like most of them give them whatever that drug is that lets them respond but not remember anything nowadays.
Herbie do you think we should start a new thread? This one is getting kind of long for those who have dial up.
I'm with you Cat, I have been thinking the same thing!
Pat,
From what I understand IBS can't really be diagnosed.....just tests like a sigmoidoscopy, etc to rule out any nasty things like cancer, polyps, diverticuli.......but IBS I think is a general intestinal upset due to stress, etc....Colitis is actually diagnosed by biopsies.....there's all kinds of different ones, some much more debilitating than others......during an inflammation last year I lost 33lbs and did not leave the house unless it was absolutely necessary for 7-8 months....when it was finally diagnosed I went onto a cycle of steriods and it finally calmed down.....I take meds now daily to keep it under control.....the bottom (no pun intended) is that I am very, very grateful the gastrointerologist I was referred to after spending time in the hospital for dehydration insisted I have the test......my family dr had been treating me with over the counter medications while I just got worse.....if you have questions on any procedure it is very wise to talk to your dr to get the answers because he knows your specifics and your history.....everyone reacts differently to things......what was awful for one may be a cakewalk for the next.....if you've given birth I'm sure you know that to be very true.....alot of it is how you yourself handle things/react to things.....Deb
Yes, my son has been keeping the IBS under control pretty well with prescription drugs. His bowels have always been sensitive. I'm sure growing up in our household during some of those years was mighty stressful for him!
I've had several people tell me taking acidophilus and psyllium seed capsules every day helps all digestive problems. I have tried it and it does seem to help. I just hate taking stuff so I take it for awhile and then stop. The psyllium seed also cleans the colon out and helps with regularity & "consistency". (Was that delicate enough? LOL)
cat - thats a godo idea. it is get5ting long. hope you can do if for me as i have no idea what to do. thanks
weigh in time tomorrow. have been real good so i am hoping for good results although tonight i am driving down to queens new york because my wife is having a 2nd annual reunion with her grammer school classmates. we are all meeting ata resturant and thankfully it is a set menu and no buffett. LOL
talk to you all tomorrow and cat, hope ou can take care of that for me.
I don't know how either Herbie! LOL. I figure they are just cutting and pasting but don't know. Anyone want to teach us dummies how to start new threads??
Don't know if this will work but here goes.

Beth you look fabulous!! I need to lose that kind of weight and more to! I took my first step and joined Curves and had my first workout this morning. Now DH needs to buy lots of veggies and salads.
What are some of the things everyone has done to curb your appetite?
:) Donna
Hi All,
Thanks for all the "advice" about the colonoscopy. Coincidentally, my SIL had one last week and didn't even tell me, but when I mentioned mine, she "fessed up" ! She also said it is "nothing" (well, if nothing is found to be wrong!).
Yes, I'll post pics from the wedding! I can't wait to get this thing OVER WITH! Isn't that terrible? Weddings are such productions these days that I actually feel that way! I've had to collect RSVP's for the rehearsal dinner, and that was a hassle. We invited EVERYONE who would be in from out of town, whether or not they were in the wedding "production"--this is apparently the "latest" etiquette rule--and you would not believe people who just "told" someone they were (or were NOT) coming and expected me to get the information. Such poor manners!! Then when the "buzz" in the family was that people were not RSVP'ing --either by phone or email--I got a rush of replies the day before the club needed the count!
Nowadays I look at my little calendar and something I pencil in is either "before" or "after" the wedding....and I"m looking forward to "after"!!!
Donna,
I've found that drinking LOTS of water with the powdered lemonade or limeade added in really does help!! They say a full tummy of water staves off hunger for about 20-30 minutes. During that time, I usually get busy with yard work, housework, etc. and then several more hours have elapsed and I didn't give in to the craving. I also love celery...and it's a ZERO for every diet.
Herbie, I know you and several others expression an interest in a Christmas swap that filled up before you had time to join. This one is still open:
