Good deal! Keep up the good work
my 100 + lb weight loss = my new toy
Hi everyone,
Sounds like your all doing great!
BBeth...Awsom for you! I saw your clothes are growing off of you,LOL I hate shopping for clothes too but woohoo for getting something thats fits nice and smaller.
Hey Betty, How's the taste packets going? As much as I Love water, it does need a little boost now and again. And I saw you too, shed a pound-yay it is a start.
Welcome to Depsi and Cat! Nice to see new support everywhere! You got the best here with Herbie's group!
By the way-Hope your having a grand time Herbie!
For me, Got on the scale and am right where I was the last time. For me it's good, I wouldn't mind losing the last 4 pounds but I am at a comfortable place at the moment. Especially now that soon couch potatoing around isn't going to do much for me.LOL
You all have a healthy day!
Judy
It's quiet in here today. Hope that means everyone is just busy, not that we've all fallen "off the wagon"! LOL!
I had one of those eat everything in sight days today. Feeling like a bloated melon right now! Deb I think you are probably going to beat me this week. I'm sure I gained back what I'd lost plus more! But that's ok, look out next week! I don't quit easily!
Nope, with guests here I ate, ate, ate....now today I've been so tired and winding down that I've snacked and snacked....chewy mouth stress relief.....let's just consider this week a "loss" for both of us and get back on track with a new sunrise....whatd'ya think???? Deb
Works for me. I think the important thing is to not give up. I'm still going to try to watch it. (tomorrow! There's some frozen yogurt calling my name right now!) I'm such a weakling! LOL!
Yep, you guys are stress eaters and SOCIAL eaters!!! I have been so busy that I have not been snacking. I got on a local online ad website and found a self-propelled lawn mower with bagger, Snapper brand for $30!!! AND a new rechargeable weedeater for $50. The guy used it ONCE last year and decided he wanted something with more POWER!!! It has more than enough power for me and new they are $100!!! Then a little stop by the local BB store and 10 bags of steer manure. Yep, my CAR is full!! The trunk had the mower hanging out while I got all the other stuff.
Tomorrow I adjust the mower and SCALP the yard where I want to kill it for new flower beds. Water down the newspaper and begin the lasgna beds!! THAT ought to keep my chubby little fingers from reaching for snacks! I call it the too busy to eat plan.
Success with weight is not about how many times you FALL off the wagon, but getting up and climbing back ON the wagon one more time than you fall!
Pat
i'm back and hello to you oldies and newbies. had a great time on vacation. did lots of eating but i figured, what the heck. i have one more party (bridal shower for my future DIL) and then its back to the diet. LOL i know i have gained some weight so i will wait till the end of this month before i look at the scale.
have a great day everyone.
AW... resorting to avoidance of the scales to keep from discouragement huh? If that is what works for you, go for it!!!
I've been outside working hard on creating new flower beds. No time for idle munching, thats a good thing for me!! Another 2 pound loss for me.
Hi guys. Welcome back Herbie. Hey Deb. Did you weigh in today or just blow it off? Somehow I managed to loose a pound, even with all the cheating! We can start fresh with todays weight. I am determined I'm going to do more than a pound this next week.
Blew it off....no attempt at all really....today begins anew....again....Congratulations, Cat....that is one less pound to lose.....Will Power to us all this week.....Deb
besides all the encouragement we give each other on this thread i would also like to tell each other about the different types of diets we are on and also to post some nice "diet recipes" we could share with each other without going onto the recipe forum. i found this recipe in a magazine and tried it before i went on vacation and would like to share it with you.
layered vegetable casserole (serves four)
each vegetable is thinly sliced and laid down in a single layer before being drizzled with good, extra virgin olive oil, covered with torn basil leaves and grated parmigiano reggiano cheese and baked until meltingly tender. if possibloe make it an oven to table casserole dish
1 small eggplant (about 10 ounces)
3 medium yukon gold or red skinned potatoes (about 8 ounces)
unpeeled, thinly sliced.
2 medium red onions (about 6 ounces) thinnly sliced
3 medium tomatoes (about 10 ounces) cored and thinly sliced
salt and freshly ground black pepper
1/4 cup fruity extra virgin olive oil
12 basil leaves, torn
1/4 cup parmigiano reggiano
snip off ends of the eggplant and using a vegetable peeler strip off skin at intervals leaving some skin on. slice eggplant crosswise into 1/4 inch slices. place them in a colander and sprinkle with salt. cover with a small plate and then weight down with a heavy can. let sit for 30 minutes. rinse and pat dry. place a rack in the center of the oven and preheat oven to 375 degrees. generusly oil a deep square or rectangular baking dish, large enough to hold each vegetable in a single layer. make a layer of slightly overlapping potato slices on the bottom of the dish. sprinkle with salt and pepper. cover the potatoes with a layer of eggplant and sprinkle lightly with salt., next layer the onions and then the tomatoes. springkle with salt and pepper. scatter the basil over the top. drizzle with the olive oil. cover with foil. bake 25 minutes. carefully remove the foil. sprinkle the top of the casserole evenly with the grated cheese. return to the oven, uncovered and baked about 25 to 30 minutes more or until browned and the vegetagles are quite tender when pierced with a knife. carefully drain off any excess oil that has accumulated. let sit for 8 minutes before serving. can also be served at room temperature.
i used regular olive oil instead of virgin olive oil.
I'm not really calling what I'm doing a "diet". That is such a dirty word! And it makes you feel deprived before you even get out of bed.
From the past, I learned I get bored with one way of loosing if I do it very long. So, I decided the best way for me would be to switch offf. Maybe 2 weeks eating one way, then 2 weeks another. Etc.
For this week, I decided I'm going to concentrate on adding more raw fruits and veggies to my eating every day. And cutting out Pepsi or at least cut back. No more than 2 a week maybe. Every meal I am going to eat at least 2 servings of fruit or a veggie.
This may not seem like alot to most, but baby steps remember?
I've done the crash diets where you loose all kinds of weight, but can't keep up that way of eating. (Atkins for 1). And as soon as you start trying to eat more normal, it all comes back plus some!
So this time, I am going to try to gradually change my ways of eating. I won't loose as fast, but the chances of it staying off will be better. That's what I'm telling myself anyway! LOL!
Hey Cat, WHAT you tell yourself is important!!! My husband does well on low carbs but almost unlimited fats. He does not eat any breads, or pasta's etc. THAT does not work for me! I try to keep the carbs limited to whole grains, with the exception of fruits and vegs. I try to keep my fat consumption down. If I do those two things, everything else is fine.
I know what you mean. On the Atkins thing, I craved carbs constantly! I am a pasta lover and I missed that more than sweets or fruits put together!
Hey I guess we have to try these different ways at least once so we'll know what works for us and what doesn't, right?
I'm going to give the 'grazzing' a good time
cat - you are right. for the three years i was watching what i ate i probably averaged a weight loss of 2 pounds per week. i believe that slow and steady is the best way to go.
It seems to be the only way that will work for me. I never had any problems getting weight off on all the crash plans, but it always came back. So, I'm going to try to work on changing my eating habits. Gradually and using some common sense!
How's it going this week Deb? Company all gone?
Herbie..what do you think of 'grazzing'...you multiply your weight by 11 which is # of calories allowed in one day.. then if you are active you add one cal. per weight lb. or if you are not active you subract 1 cal. per lb. of weight..then divide by 6...the # of cal. you can eat in 6 mini meals per day...friend is on it and has lost a lot of weight...
betty - did i ever tell you that math was my WORST subject in school. LOL.
seriously, i find that what i am doing now is the best way for me to lose weight. what may work for one of us might not work for all of us and i guess thats normal. right now i am incorporating three different diet programs into one and it has worked fine so far.
i think its a good idea for us to learn all about the different ways we are losign weight, i.e. give us a weeks worth of what you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
what I would object to about the grazzing method is the enormous focus on counting calories and food. I don't want to be obcessed about food!
good morning everyone. how goes the battle of the weight loss this week. i finally got to ride the bike i had bought so i could pedal all over my neighborhood for exercise. i had to wait for my knee to feel beter after the operation and yesterday when i got home from work i took the red devil out for a spin. i forgot how much effort it took to ride a standard bike or maybe i was a lot younger then and i didn't notice it. LOL
i am still waiting till the end of the month to get on the scales but i am hoping that i wasn't to bad a boy during these two weeks.
anything new happening to any of you.??
have a great weekend
YES!!! I ran an ad in the free online classified that I would thin and divide perennals. I got two calls. One lady delivered a box of them to me and I dug at the other house and came home with several BOXES of free flowers! I still need to get them all potted up since the newest big lasagna big is not ready.
Now if I could keep that up, it would be the enjoyable way to exercise! Digging the grass out to create new flower beds, hauling bags of steer manure... yep, it's all good! We'll see tomorrow what it did at the scales.
Pat
pat - maybe you can make a small business out of it. its something you enjoy and you can exercise at the same time.
o.k. everyone (except me) what did the scales say to you today??
enjoy
Hi everyone. Well, I didn't gain but I didn't loose any more either! Holding my own. I'll have to watch it a little closer this week.
The scales read +2...nuts.....I resolve to walk twice a day this coming week....we live right in the middle of a mountain so everywhere I choose to walk is up...real workout....Cat, let me know the seeds & they'll be in the mail....I'm going to try a liquid substitute for dinner this next week....gotta hold to it.....Deb
No Deb, we agreed on a month! LOL!. We have 2 weeks to go!! Come on, you can do it!
Oh, you're right...Thanks, Cat.....Deb
depsi - i recommend against the liquid substitute for dinner. i can see it for breakfas or lunch but i think dinner should be a regular meal. any of the diets i have read about say a regular meal is best at dinner time. don't worry about the plus 2 lbs. it will come off next time and more.
cat - good news.
i have 6 days to go and then i will report in. in the meantime eat healthy and stay focussed.
have a great day
Herbie43, that makes sense....the evening is when I get into trouble...just eat, eat, eat....now tonight I've only had 2 fresh pears after having a piece of baked chicken, cucumbers, and melon for dinner....Deb
Good for you Deb! I have problems wanting to grab something when I get bored. Or upset. Etc etc. As long as I stay busy, it doesn't seem as bad. I think alot of people have trouble in the evenings.
Her's something that seemed to work at night for me in the past, but it only works if you like fruit. :-) I eat a normal dinner at regular time, for me that's around 6. Then if I get hungry later, I only allow myself to eat a piece of fruit. Or a handful of grapes or dried apricots or raisins. It gives me something to crunch on, but not alot of extra calories.
Wish you lived closer! We could go walking in the evenings!
I stayed the same this week...still down 60 lbs since 6/1/2007 though!
60 lbs! I'm envious! Did you ever go clothes shopping?
No, but I found some of my old clothes from years ago that fit now!!!
I still think you should go out and splurge on at least 1 nice new outfit! A reward.
I'm at the point right now of wanting my weight to stabilize before I buy a lot of clothes. I want to know what my new "set-point" is going to be. But you're right, one new outfit wouldn't hurt!
That's the hardest part of being overweight.......nothing ever really looks good on me....and I have a party to go to Sunday and I'm just dreading it 'cause I won't have anything to wear....me, with 3 closets full of clothes from my thinner days....Beth, you are being hugged big time....good for you!!!! and Cat, I wish you were closer too, 'cause we would walk all over this mountain....I have to go with my husband 'cause we have cougars & wolves around here....I had blackberries (picked yesterday) for breakfast this morning.....Glad you all are there to encourage....thank you.....Deb
Depsi, boy can I relate to that! I sorted thru a bunch of mine and got rid of what I did not think I'd even enjoy wearing again (if it did ever fit again!). I put other stuff that did not fit into storage containers and got them OUT of my closet. No sense taking up room and mocking me when they don't fit. I tried to keep a few things a "little too small" in the closet for fit checks. I certainly don't want to miss a favorite when it becomes wearable!!!
