Frank! Just got around to this thread.......who knew? Wonderful and very glad for all involved....I think the group or partner approach to weight loss is a good thing.
BTW...you look GREAT!
my 100 + lb weight loss = my new toy
I got the band because I kept dieting and losing weight, but later would gain it back and then some. I'd lose 40, then gain back 50. I quit dieting because I knew this was not healthy. Now I know, with the help of the band, that I won't be able to gain this weight back.
Great going to everyone who has lost weight ... no matter how you've done it ... whatever works for you is a healthier you. :-) It shouldn't be considered a diet but a healthier life style. Whatever you choose, be sure it's something you can stick to ... and be sure you have your cheat days so you won't feel cheated. LOL Congratulations!
thanks frank
well i will get there i guess....
wonder - of course you will and we all will be here to celebrate with you.
p.s. weight in on sunday. i notice that i was the only one who posted for 5 weeks. i hope i am able to just edit my old post and add the 6th week.
its weigh in time and i am happy to report that i have hit one of my goals since starting this diet, i am now 250 and i have lost exactly 107 pounds.
hope everyone had a weight loss this week. lost another 4 pounds since last weigh in.
have a grat day
Smarty pants...how envious I am of you and I only need to shed about 20-25 lbs...maybe I should visit you for a month...might meet my goals as well..lol...
betty - and what EXACTLY are your goals. my wife has just informed me that at my heavest i weighed 374 pounds and not 357 pounds so i guess i lost alot more than i though. she is never wrong about these things
will weigh in tonight havnt been good this week tho :0(
yup...I'm afraid too...
Smart Frank, you learned Deb is always right. How come she never posts on DG?
Frank, I weighed in this morning....I have lost the weight I gained....and am back at my original start weight! Not bad since we had birthday and wedding over the last two weeks. The food at the wedding was awesome last night....but I ate very safely. And only 1/2 piece of cake.
So, considering all that....I am happy.
Debbie
well done debbie,
i weigh in tonight and will post in a few hours. you will all be sleeping no doubt....
see you then.
dawn - because she plays texas hold em poker most of the day and well into the3 night. i get up this early so i have time to use the computer before i go to work.
debbie - excellent. keep up the good work
three - the only thing you have to fear is fear itself as said by winston churchill many years ago.
laura - don't worry, there is always next week.
have a great day all you skinny people.
I didn't weigh this morning as I went to a funeral yesterday and ate at the church afterwards. You know how it is..to have that good country food staring at ya? I did stick to the Low Carb style with 1 piece of sausage and 1 helping of cole slaw, but the bit of fresh, homemade strawberry cake was loaded with sugarrrrr! :-)
One of you asked to help understand the reasons WHY we sometimes gain it back... Well I am one of those people. I regained all the weight I struggled so long to lose. There were a combination of factors. I had lost over 150 pounds, was going thru a divorce, was enrolled in Masters program and was working out 3 to 4 times a week at Curves.
During all this I ended up having a gall bladder surgery so was not allowed to work out. I had only gotten back into the grove of exercise when I was faced with a hysterectomy, the full blown cut you wide open kind. This time I was not allowed to even lift my school bag. I never REALLY got back into the Curves thing. School left me very little spare time and what time I had, I used for social & dating.
Once I got back into eating emotionally and for self-soothing, it was all down hill (or should I say UP on the scale!). I've remarried to a wonderful man who is supportive and kind. The stress of moving, going back to school (Idaho did not accept my WA license) had me continuing to regain. I've finally put the brakes back on and I'm back at the weight loss. HOWEVER, I am not completely starting over. I am a little wiser, I have some tricks and knowledge that go with me that I did not have before. Although the weight is back, I can relose it and begin again.
Pat
pat - i am sorry that you had all those problems which contributed to your gaining back the weight you have lost and i am glad to are back on the road to weight loss. can we count on you join us here and update us each week as to whether you lost/gained/or stay even for the week. we weight ourselves each sunday and then post the results.
i think i speak for us of us when i ask what your tricks and knowledge are that you can share with me.
thanks and welcome
frank
I did my morning weigh in and have lost 43 pounds since 6/1/2007. I have been on Nexxium for about a year, but am trying to get off it. I started drinking Dan-active this week, and haven't had any acid reflux. I really hope this works for me! Maybe I am just digestive enzyme deficient. I need to get some beano too, because I eat a lot of veggies and it should help digesting them.
Bynde...do you mean since 2006? 43 pounds in 2 months is incredibly fast...
It's from 2007....in my previous messages I told everyone that I got a lap-band on 6-1-2007. It helps!!!
ok...I weighed myself...down 3.......I don't get it, when I think I should have lost I gain and when I think I should have gained I lose......go figure.
Oh wow....you must be ecstatic!!! :-) Congrats on the hugely successful surgery!!
well i didnt lose andi didnt gain. at my support group we call this a 'turtle'.
i guess that is better than gaining eh?
yeah that surgery is really effective...
Beth,
In your reference to Nexium, what do you think is the connection between that and weight loss/gain? You said you are trying to get off of it. Why????? What is the reason?
I had a knee replacement surgery on Jan. 24 of this year and I had to stop taking Celebrex 2 weeks before that (it is a blood thinner). Because I stopped taking Celebrex, I also stopped taking my generic Prevacid (Omeprazole--an acid reflux preventing drug). I have not gone back to either. My reasoning--NO Celebrex--NO acid reflux meds needed! Not yet sure if that was a wise decision???//
I came home from the hospital having lost 10lbs. Understandable--anesthesia, Hospital food, pain pills (Percocett), lack of appetite and, once I got home, no desire to cook or eat a whole lot for about a month Been through this before.
I have maintained my weight loss and then some. I have lost a total of 16-17lbs. and holding. I am happy, but have been trying to understand WHY! My eating habits have not changed all that much---so I have been wondering if NOT taking the Prevacid/Prilocec/ or the generic Omeprazole I take, might have had some effect on my weight loss????
Here is how I am trying to analyze this:
--An acid-reflux medication STOPS the production of acid in your stomach.
--Acid is instrumental in digesting fats in one's digestive system.
--SO! just maybe--the fats get more absorbed from the large intestine and one maintains, or gains, weight if you eat a lot of fatty foods (I do not).
NOW:
--If you stop taking these anti-acid production medications, the acid is back in the digestive system and the fats DO get "digested" and so, not as many of the fats get absorbed and one might lose weight as a result. Like--not as many fats go into your blood stream.
Do any of you have any comments on my hypotheses here?????
I am tickled pink that I have lost all this weight, but am wondering WHY it has happened????? I do think I have changed mostly WHEN I eat--NOT what I eat.
Beth--you mentioning stopping Nexium made me post here what I have been wondering about. Please explain to us what you feel about this. No one on either of these ongoing diet Forums has ever addressed this issue.
I welcome any and all comments, or you all sharing if this has happened to you.
Thanks, Gita
I started taking Nexxium for acid reflux way before I had lap-band surgery, so I do not see a connection. If anything, the acid reflux has gotten better since getting the lap-band. I would like to be able to stop taking Nexxium because it costs so much money and because I would like to put as few chemicals in my body as possible (this is a chemist talking!). If my acid reflux problem is caused by a decrease in the production of digestive enzymes due to aging, I would rather try and encourage those enzymes to flourish than take Nexxium which just deals with a symptom, not the underlying problem.
I do not have a problem with consuming much fat, so am not worried. I need to digest and use all the fat I'm consuming!
Beth,
Nexxium and Prevacid are the "designer drugs" for this condition. You pay dearly for all their glitzy adds and advertising. Besides, the Dr.'s all go with the big names when prescribing because those vendors bring them bags-full of free samples in return for the Docs. pushing their name brands. I know this for a fact from my own Dr.
Prilosec, which is over the counter is pretty much the same thing--but also expensive, and because it is NOT prescription, Medicare-D will not pay for it.
Omeprazole is generic Prilosec, but it does require a prescription, therefore Medicare-D WILL pay for it. It is what I have used/use and I get a 3 month's supply at a time. The cost is very, very minimal.
Ask your Dr. for a new prescription! They all do the same thing!
I am 70, so I understand all the "aging" stuff......
Gita
o.k. no gains for anyone and that it a good thing.
pat - you still with us?? waiting on your tircks to lsogin weight.
weigh in ccoming in 4 days. stay good.
Thanks Gita. Prilosec has not worked as well for me as Nexxium. I have health insurance and the copay used to be $10 per prescription, but now it is tiered and is 10/15/35 copay. Of course, Nexxium is the $35. I just hope to get off all my meds except methotrexate. If natural L. casei probiotics can do that, it is certainly better!
Dawn--better watch it! Posting pictures like that!!!!
Frank is drooling in his cereal! His hands are trembling and he is wheezing. Too much Oxygen! You know that deep-breathing can do that to you.
LOL......Gita
ROTFLMBO I don`t weigh so this is all I have , that and measuring.
Shouldn't it be: ROTFLMGO ....with the "G" being "GIRLS"????? :-) (I can't wait to lose more myself so my girls will fit in a size large top!!! I'm sick of XL!!!)
Connie beat me to it, Dawn. So, you are beautiful on the outside, too.
Oh. And my girls think your girls are pretty okay, too. I know, because I took them out of my waistband and asked them.
