What is growing nicely for you right now? page 2

Dave is digital - so he can't be on a 'roll'!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Al, love those hollyhocks! Ours will be blooming soon, but they are so short this year, due to the lack of rain we've had. Normally they top out at 6-7 feet. I think we'll be lucky to get 4 ft.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Saraskeeper, have not seen them red , only sort of black, they are eating the leaves right down to the stem, just awful, what can I spray them with?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Maria,
I use a Bayer product for rose and flowers, it works on the lily beetles. http://www.bayeradvanced.com/product/Dual-Action-Rose-Flower-Insect-Killer/rtu.html

Make sure it has Imidacloprid in it.....thats the ingredient that kills them.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Thanks, Pixie, am on my way to buy it :-))))))))))

They're all so beautiful. It's hard to pick a favorite, not that I have to, but those baskets are divine~!

I love how nice and neat you keep your garden. No weeds! You're an excellent caretaker and I commend you. So many other people post photos and sometimes I can't find the plant because of the weeds. Your photos are great, too.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

you are killing me pirl....that post actually made me laugh out loud.... thanks for that....

those baskets were not easy to plant in... i have to try and remember next year only 2 or 3" pots can fit in the holes..... what a nightmare... i picked up a few more for next year that the side snap out and you can put a 4 or 5" pot in them... and it takes a ton of water to seep to the bottom.... i just use a watering can and flood it ... let it soak in... flood it again... soak .. etc... till i see it drip out the bottom

and it was hard for me to pick a favorite too... that's why i have so many different kinds

:)

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Jeez Pirl - that hurts.

What did I do wrong now, Al?

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

I have a daylily in bloom with lots more buds. Don't know what kind it is, but it's yellow and not orange!! Eleanor

Victor - It's lovely. Was that from Mischele's?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, Pirl.

Here is part of my 2nd floor window box. The Abutilon blooms echo the color in the Coleus.

Al pirl... was actually saying an inside joke between us.... no offense to anyone else

great shots granny & victor

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I think Al was just teasing. I sent him a Dmail with a link.

Victor - LOVE your color harmony!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Pirl.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I thought you were talking about my pics - don't worry.

Nice Grammy

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Thanks everyone! :-) Thanks for the ID Victor - my daylily now has a name!! Nice photos Victor. Eleanor

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

and victor i don't feel so bad now that i know your caladium bulbs aren't up yet either..... i planted a bunch and nothing yet.. first time trying them

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

i like that Victor. Thanks Al - I think I will consider it for next year! Save me some seed?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks. I like that Hollyhock too. If grown from seed, how long before bloom??

Onewish - they thrive in heat and humidity. Also, there are always bad bulbs in the mix - either dried out or mush. They are beautiful though and it's way cheaper to buy bulbs than plants.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I had a buy one get one free coupon for home depot bulbs.... really cheap then

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Too bad you didn't have a buy one, get one free deal for the diamonds!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

But Victor, she only has one neck for the diamonds!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

She can trade the other for a camera.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Great idea!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

you guys crack me up

Not my first dahlia, the first one got chewed up a bit.

Nice Al. The Echinacea would look nice next to that Dahlia. Color is picked up in the Dahlia.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Oh well - I don't like my foods touching on my plate either. They all have their own beds - it's easier for management. Pink and dark purple match great though I will agree.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Very nice Al, I love the color of Midnight.

Marlborough, MA(Zone 5b)

You guy all have such great pictures of all your flowers. I finally have a flower. My first Stella opened today. And I discovered 3 buds on my All Fired Up. There little, but they are finally showing results.
