what a cutie!
What is growing nicely for you right now? page 2
Harry's way too cute to be messin' around. It's not Harry.
Very cute.
We have Forever Stella's in bloom, roses, Japanese irises, Asiatic lilies, cleome, yarrow, 'Hilda Niblett' azalea, and too much to name each one. It's a delerious start to summer.
pirl - Harry is cute and adorable!! Eleanor
.........and fixed though he didn't know he was broken.
Thanks to all from Handsome Harry.
How old is he Pirl?
Nine years young. We got him from a no kill shelter in Southampton after he had two previous homes and was "deleted" from each of them. For us he's an ideal companion.
That's nice. We will be adding two kittens to keep our ten year old cat, Crash, company. Probably in August. We'll go to a shelter.
There's a retirement home for pets on the South Fork. I guess it's for when people pass away and want to know their pet/pets will always have the best of care and all medical attention. I found it so touching.
Pretty. Are they fragrant?
Victor - are you going to the shelter to live cause the cats are taking over the house??
(sorry, couldn't resist) We had two cats ( both have died - last one back in November) and they were nice enough to let us live in the house. They ran the household though. The photo is of Dustmop, the one that died in Nov. His mood says, "don't bother me!" Eleanor
Oh what a shame. That must have been real tough. No changing DH's mind??
Dustmop was a Himalayan (sp?). He was dropped off at my parents' farm near Syracuse and we brought him back to Glens Falls to live with us, or us with him. He had been abused and nothing but skin and bones. Didn't take him too long to realize he was king of the household and Squeak was the queen. He never trusted anyone in the family but me and I was the only one who could touch him. It makes me so mad when people drop off animals like that - I even saw someone actually throw a cat out of a car once. Eleanor
He was really upset when Squeak died. We had taken our car in for service several times because something was leaking from it but the mechanics said "I was seeing things". I took it back in after she died and then of course they found the leak. Well anyway, my grandson and a cat would not work out very good together right now. Maybe when he is older. Eleanor p.s. Crash is a cutie also.

My daughter found a kitten, abandoned, at our former home when she was expecting Megan, who will be 16 next month..........so is the cat. It's a real act of love in sharing a home with pets..........or them sharing the home with us.
How horrible! I watched a cat die from antifreeze poisoning - very upsetting. I miss my cats. I 'd love to have more, but everyone in my family is allergic to them.
Antifreeze poisoning is an awful thing to watch your cat die from. Squeak had been out playing one morning and when I let her in she went to my bed and didn't move much the rest of the day (my bed was her property). When my DH came home from work I didn't say anything to him and he went in to pet her like he always does. His first comment was "what's wrong with Squeak, she's not acting normal". I took her to the vet the next day and when I came back to get her after doing some errands the vet said she was very sick and it looked like antifreeze - can tell by the sores in the mouth. The vet kept her and worked on her for 2 days but she kept getting worse. We brought her home Fri. night to spend her last night at home and Sat morning we took her back to be put down. It was horrible and even though it's been 4 years I remember those days as if it was last week. KEEP CATS AND DOGS AWAY FROM ANTIFREEZE!! Eleanor
The wacky part of it is that supposedly it's sweet in taste, so the animal has no idea.. I decided to google it - as usual - and found this http://www.petshealth.com/dr_library/antifreeze.html . I hope it is very proactive.
Anita - thanks for posting that link. It might save a pet's life!! Sofonisba - they look so content together. What a beautiful dog!! Pets bring so much joy to our lives. Eleanor
How sweet, Harper.
My daughter kept one of the Lhasas when I had the mother bred many years ago. When he was 6 years old he found an empty bottle (uncapped) of anti-freeze and his prolonged horrible death was a week away. Such torment!
Oh, that's so sad!
Man, you would think they could add something to make it taste nasty to them. Would probably cost next to nothing.
I am so sorry to hear about your cat. How awful for you.
see i am gone for a few days... and the growing nicely forum turned into pet photos
but i have a lot of catching up to do in just 3 short days
:)
We do have a habit of getting off the subject and rambling!! Let's get back on track to what's growing nicely. My pink spirea and geranium are in bloom right now. The pink spirea is just starting - it's getting a little bit too big for this garden!! Eleanor
ok - that's not the right photo but my BESV is growing nicely also. I'll try again for the right photo.

Al love the pink garden and Dave the orange roses are wonderful
Just a quick question ...
Is it just us, or is everyone's garden just a few weeks behind?
Our blooms are just beginning, and some of our irises have brown buds, like they are rotting.
We are VERY novice gardeners and have joined Dave's Garden in order to learn and improve our green thumbs.
Candyce: which irises have brown buds? Siberians (generally the earliest), tall bearded irises (wide gray-green leaves) or maybe Japanese (narrow bladed leaves, like Siberian's leaves but taller)?
A picture would help if you have one.
I will try to get outside and get a pix.
Like I said, we are novice gardeners, with the accent on the VERY - LOL!! So, other than knowing what an iris looks like, I have no idea what its name might be. But that's why my daughter and I are both here at Dave's Garden ... to learn, and learn, and learn.
Stand by for photos ...
OK ... here is one photo.
The other irises in the garden, except for six of them are all doing well.
Anna asks ... (she's the other one in this 'we' I speak about, and she's my daughter):
What do we do? Do we cut them back? Will they be OK next year if we cut them back? Dig them out now, as opposed to later in the season?
Stand by for photo #2
