What is growing nicely for you right now? page 2

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, I agree Anita. It's a bit depressing. Seems the days should not get shorter until September. Let's change that.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

ok - I'll sign the petition! Can we add that everyday can be sunny and 70-80 and it can only rain between 2 and 5am?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

What are you doing outside until 2am without a miners helmet?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Getting signatures.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Camelot! That's what Anita and I want and we're close to it.

Al - I've added to my attire and now have an umbrella hat to keep me cool on the worst of days (I hope).

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

If you start to think about combining the two then it might be time to change meds.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Arlene, you could get one that has a spray-misting fan that clips onto the brim. Whoa, would that be a sight!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Wait now - she trying to stay dry with the umbrella.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

does that mean keeping dry in the liquor department too???

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Ok, this is driving me nuts. What's an umbrella hat?

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

LMAO!!!

It's just what you think it is Polly.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You've never seen one, Polly??

LOL!!!!!!!!!! gee how fast can you google, copy and paste!!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Do we have enough yet??

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Harper - Marketing says 'you gotta sell it" funny pic.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Oh now, Pirl will look oh so cute in that. Wait till her neighbors drive by and see that. I know she likes to shake things up around her area.

No, I have never seen one before. Is it a downstate thing? I know you guys are way ahead in the fashion industry.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I think I have seen some old stock footage where that thing flops up and down and you fly.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

That settles it! I'm getting one!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You can garden in all weather! Protects from sun and rain. Just watch out for wind gusts or you may no longer be in Kansas.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

What if you didn't start out in Kansas?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

What a bunch of nuts!

A nice thing about amsonia is that after it flowers you can shape the foliage pretty much however you want. In front of amsomia foliage is the piddling penstemon husker red I've complained about.

My only other orange flower is also a rose, this one is a mini.

Another low-maintenance rose.

Dave,

Do you have a picture of that amsonia in flower? I just planted some last fall, and can't wait to see it in a size like yours. I hear it's a very hard plant to divide? Which one is it, tabernaemontana?

Another one I like to shape after flowering is baptisia, same kind of form.

Like the umbrella hat pics. Now we just need to see a pic of pirl in her umbrella hat!! Eleanor

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Good grief! All the fun action takes place as I dream. Eventually, I may get Jack to take a photo of me with the umbrella hat, the ice band to keep my forehead cool, and the auto headlamp so I can garden on hot nights when it's raining. My flame torch in one hand and my huge bulb auger, attached to my drill, in the other hand - ready for action.

Dave - your 'Husker's Red' and mine could have had a wimpy contest. I sent mine off to someone who actually wanted it - hard for me to believe. I like robust much more than wimpy. Your other photos are lovely. How big is your amsonia? I may have to move mine, a recent and very much appreciated gift. Which digitalis is that? We lost all but one of our 'Pam's Choice' seedlings.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I see Pirl starring in a gardening action flick! Dave, that's definitely not the Amsonia I have. Mine is hubrechtii - very fine foliage and light blue star shaped blooms. Beautiful plant - turns a very pretty color in the Fall. It's one of my favorites.

My Huskers Red was never wimpy, or floopy at all. Just invasive!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Invasive! Mine wouldn't budge. Anything at all used to replace it was worth it. I think I used the very graceful false astilbe with such lovely light peach "floopy" flowers.

My "action" today, Victor, is on my hands and knees - weeding.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Yes it is A. tabernaemontana. I couldn't find a picture of mine so I borrowed one. My plant is about 2& 1/2 ft tall and bigger & fuller than this one.http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/112080/

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Pirl,

One of yours is the same as Daves. I think it tops out at 3' X 3'.

The other is Blue Ice, and is smaller. Here's Blue Ice:

".......a paternity test is still pending" - cracked me up! Thanks, Polly. At 3' x 3' I have to rethink and relocate.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

I grew dees petunias all by mysef.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Nice Seandor!

Pirl, who had a paternity test?

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Nobody yet.

Pirl's giving one to her plants.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

In the link it was mentioned that they're giving paternity tests to Amsonias. I knew it wasn't Harry!
