My camera has difficulty capturing blueish purples. They come out blue. It also doesn't do bright reds well. What's the white balance?
June Flowers Are Bustin' Out All Over - cont. from May
I've set it to auto, sunlight and cloudy. I really just need to play with it or just deal with the color issues.
I need to play with mine, too. Maybe I'll bring the instructions with me when we go on vacation and I won't be distracted by gardening.
I yell at my camera all the time too. I'm looking at the screen and at the flower and wondering just what it's seeing that I'm not. I will try taking pics in lower light times or in sunnier to try and find something that works.
Al, try a little kindness...yelling rarely helps.
oooh....love that!
Al, what are those blue flowers? (Flax?)They are lovely!! Blue is my favorite color and you captured the perfect blue!!
These are some irises that my mother gave me. They are so ancient I don't even think they have a name!! I think they had been handed down to her from the previous generation and maybe even before because my grandmother had iris also and they never bought flowers but got them from someone else's garden!!
Al, that blue is to DIE for! Nice shot! Great composition.
Grammy, congratulations on your clematis bloom! Your Spirea is wonderful! So lush. I love those irises.
Harper, white balance is how the camera reproduces color. It's why cameras that don't adjust for it take awful pictures in fluorescent light, for example. Most people just leave it on AUTO, but it can be tricked. Blue vs. purple is one of the most common problems with it.
Nice Grammy
Thanks Harper
Pixie - yes that's my flax. It's funny because I got the seed packet free years ago and decided to just throw it in there and it does great.
My camera has more trouble with the peach/coral/light orange range.
Beautiful!! I'd love to come see your garden in person sometime Victor. It's really gorgeous.
I agree with Harper, your gardens are lovely and that "Ramona" is just beautiful! I planted "Will Goodwin" a few years ago, but I don't believe it's ever bloomed.
Thanks. Of course I conveniently omit the weeds!
Beautiful everyone!! Love the Viburnum - is it named Erie for the
Erie Canal or Lake Erie? That would be a good flowering shrub for my new garden. Does it smell better than spirea? I just finished digging out the last of the orange daylily roots (ha, ha) and found another pi vine and pulled that out. Now I just have to wait for the tree co. to cut down 3 trees and I can start working on the hardscape and the soil. Photo was taken this morning before I finished.
Oops - I though you just bought it. Must have been gram. You guys really have to change your names!!!
Don't we all Victor? Maybe we could post a 'who's got the most weeds' thread.
Grammy, I don't remember what you said you were going to do there?
Super duper Victor. I love the japanese maples and blue clematis.
Is that really a blue clematis or is Victor playing with the white balance?
Very nice Victor.
I missed a day or two on DG, but I was tossing a frisbee with my son tonight and kept saying "What is that smell?" It was great. So I was happily surprised to see Seandor's post.
I never remembered a smell this strong that wasn't connected to what I had blooming. Even then, I'm don't think it was this strong. Honeysuckle or roses it sure is nice. But why does this year seem different from other years?
Okay, Victor. You start. Anybody else up for a weed contest?
Missed you Dave! Glad to year you were spending time with your kids. Yes, the air smells so sweet!
Thanks Harper.
I think I can nail this weed contest!
Don't get your hopes up Dave, I know that contest is mine! I think Wysteria has a lot to do with that wonderfull sweet smell in the air. Is anyone noticing that the blooms are very short this spring? I've used messenger for the first time, and I'm not sure if it is the wierd spring weather or the messenger causing the full but brief blooming.
Sofonisba - that's ok! It could have been on another thread also. I can't keep track of which thread I'm on and post things and it has been a long haul working on this project. I had orange daylilies across the back of my yard on top of the canal back and I decided to dig them all up and put in a flower garden. It is not to wide but very long. I started with just a couple of orange daylilies from my mother's garden and they multiplied over the years to cover the whole bank. I saved a couple in her memory.
Pretty pretty pics Victor. You have a nice way with combo's. Like the wheelbarrow combo for example - lol. Seriously the pond is wonderful and so are the others. Ok let me show you my driveway if you want to see a mess.
Grammy - I know what you mean about the downside of bridal wreath spirea but it occupies a special place in my heart because both my grandmothers had it and I will always think of them when I see it. To me it has a very loving, comfortable feeling associated with it.
On the other hand I loathe any variety of Rose of Sharon because the year I went to Kindergarten was a tough year for the family and I had babysitters all the time that I didn't like. We had R of S in our backyard and I used to sit under it and notice how black and sticky the leaves were - clearly had aphids! Isn't it funny how we have these emotional associations with plants? I think I have more with plants than I do with food.
