oh you guys !!!!! I am really excited... my first tripo to CA... some of my co-workers are concerned... they were asking me yesterday : are you going to go to CA to meet people that love plants???? and I was laughing ... sure I will go... what can they do to me, feed me to the carnivorous plants???? and one of them, met his current girlfriend on the internet!!!! so I told him, I am not going for a date... only for good company, good food and good gardening... the only danger is that I may like the perfect weather and like some brazilians decide to move there!!!!! I don't think CA is ready for me yet!!!!!
my sister Christina told me to make sure I look around... like go and try so we can all move there... so I guess I am going to spy the land!

Crossville, TN

Kassia...I told my daughter when we lived in Fl...."Go visis t your sister in AZ on your vacation...fall in love with AZ and we'll all move there"....she did....and we did...I love it here in the South West.

How fun Anna banana. You guys, my gopher problem is out of control, every day I have a new way to trap them that fails, they are a giant colony or your gophers are here on vacation.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

My gophers certainly aren't vacationing at your place. They're busy at home. I lost 60 roses between January 1st and March 1st, and then I stopped counting because it was just too depressing. The odd thing is that my cats are catching at least one or two a day, but it doesn't make a dent. I wonder if they're hunting in my neighbors' gardens instead of doing their work at home.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

oh Zuzu, I am sorry about your roses... the grass is always greener on the other side!!!!

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

It's okay, Kassia. So far I've managed to stay ahead of them. When they kill 60, I buy 70 more. The absence of gophers is one of the big pluses of my planned move, though. People say a hybrid tea won't live more than 3 years in Florida, but I've never even had a guarantee of 3 hours here.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Holy Moly girl...no wonder you're so set on moving !!! Thats a LOT to lose in 2 months. My sincere sympathy.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I am playing taps on bagpipes for your departed roses. They got about 9 or 10 of mine last year and several this year that i transplanted after they ate them to near nothing. I didn`t cage them so they found them again in the winter. i cage it all now unless it something they hate like my virginia creeper and crepe myrtles and rabbits are now eating my froze oleanders , wierd ha?

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Kassia I am so excited for you to come see sandiego. When you see how small the yards are though you will want to cry. The newer homes are so close together you can see your neighbor through the window. Wait until you see dr. dons ranch. It really is beautiful, and on the way there you drive through grape fields.

Ice cream is a must. There is a local company out here that sells rose icecream and they are organic, you can get it from henrys or some albertsons. Tell your friends not worry, Im not scary, hehe.....

steph

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Ooh he lives out by the vineyards? I just talked about them at the home and garden show today.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I CAUGHT A GOPHER TODAY , I FORGOT TO TELL YOU. It was so cute though and big, I fed it well. I felt bad and hoped it didn`t suffer but now I want more.

Jasper Co., MO(Zone 6b)

Well, I m at now Flagstaff, AZ and it darn so colder to 29* ggeeezzzz bbbrrrrr also it pouring raining quick then stop!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Dawn.....one down....you must have the technique now. I gotta tell you though...I'm kinda fond of the one at my house who comes to eat with the birds and bunnies. But I do everything I can to keep my stuff away from them. We were on our way to Solana Beach yesterday and made the mistake of stopping at a lumberyard to check on something and they had whiskey barrels....on sale! $15 each....had to turn around, go back home 20 miles, get the trailer, load up on barrels. I love being able to just plop things in them without having to worry about the gophers.
Sherry

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Anna, watch out for those flash floods. You're getting a little of everything on this trip!

Jasper Co., MO(Zone 6b)

I heard on TV weather about in NM, and TX also OK too!

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Sherry how funny, there is no way in the world my dh would care enough to go 20 miles back if we were on our way to the beach. funny. I need to figure a way to keep things alive in my barrels? So far have not caught another gopher. I can see why you think their cute. they are a little cuter dead.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

goodness gracious Zuzu.... if I had to buy this many every year I will have to take heavy meds to stop crying....
maybe you can plant some decoy roses??? like some plastic ones.... and put some milk of magnesia around it... so the gophers will nible and get the runs.... and maybe they will run away from your yard....

how come you guys have this bad problem with gophers???

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Kassia, It's the 'down' side of California....gophers. Also, don't judge too much by the weather when you get here......to pay for our glorious (usually) winters....we have 'May Gray' and 'June Gloom' in San Diego area...overcast. Hopefully, the sun will shine brightly for you while you're seeing it for the first time!
Sherry
